No, unless you have phone dedicated for this. I’m not gonna play anything on my phones battery to drain it in 3 hours because of the controller and ps app. The idea that you are going to use your phone that you obviously need for other functionalities is BS.
It's about 10% battery usage every hour or so of play. Xbox cloud gaming allows you to turn on Do not Disturb mode so that you don't have texts and stuff popping up. Data usage can be fine tuned as well. PlayStation remote play app can be windowed to read messages or make calls while it's paused.

The backbone just lets your phone have physical buttons to press instead of using touch controls. You can still remote from your phone without it. You can't use the PS Portal as a just a controller for your PS5. You have to have it connected to the ps5 with remote play to use it as a controller.

Portal is overall better for remote play. The controls on the backbone are laggy. Especially the camera analog, it’s not responsive as the portal analogs. Whoever says the backbone can compete to the portal, clearly is lying, and does not own both. Portal for the win.
Got the backbone to play mainly diablo immortal (its the only game i am playing on mobile) as well as ps remote…it works like a charm and literally transforms the experience! Don’t know about portal but the backbone is flawless!

This is such a bullshit bias comparison. The backbone doesn’t feel cheap at all. And it allows for not only ps remote play, but Xbox remote play, steam link, and pretty much any other type of remote or local game play on your phone.
It does feel cheap because it is cheap. A $20 plastic accessory, when on sale, compared to a $200 device. There will be contrast in quality. They are both an option however each with their unique advantages.

I’d say get the backbone because if you have a phone model better than the iPhone 11 you’ll get a oled screen instead of the LCD screen and the backbone can work with Xbox, Apple Arcade, regular phone games and steam if you have an acount with the ps app
I'd always go with the backbone, gamesir X2 pro or razor kishi, I mean you can do so much more with those than just remote playing your PS5. In addition you get the option to play gamepass games over the cloud, emulation & native apps that support controller input.

A major point everyone is missing is that the ps portal has to be on the same connection (network) as your ps5 while the backbone does not. Also you can use remote play over mobile connection which isn’t the best experience depending on your area but the option is there and it does work I tried it.

This has already been proven false with videos of people playing on Starbucks wifi... you can also use your hotspot on your phone. I have done this with my Portal and can confirm it works.
Failed to mention the backbone can be used with a bunch of mobile games, I can also remote play my Xbox, and I can plug it into my PC and play pc games. None of which the portal can do. Pls stop glazing Sony. The portal is a crap product and reviews like this are a disservice to the community who want to actually know what they should invest in.
With the PlayStation portal u get the whole ps5 experience that the controller offers. And it’s the best remote play experience out there. I know u can use your phone but the PlayStation portal is optimized and full built for that it’s runs without lagging like a charm.

Backbone is 10000% better ! Beware those looking at which to buy, avoid disappointment and get the backbone which can be played AWAY FROM YOUR CONSOLE ANYWHERE. That alone the portal can not do! It’s Ass , and the backbone is built very well, doesn’t have issues, feels great for hours, idk what this dudes crying about, it’s completely comfortable and the button layout is nice, joysticks are great as well as a solid button feel. It does not have haptics outside of what your phone provides but this thing will also allow you to screen record or stream your gaming sessions, run remote or cloud gaming services, and your phone won’t “fall out” even swinging it or tipping it.. this guy misleads you by purposely leaving one side out of its socket and shakes it on screen to make it appear like it’s flimsy.. it’s not !

So, wouldn't the phone be better in this case? It's a phone. You can pair any controller to it. So the only metric that matters is quality. And if the quality on the phone is better than the portal, why not just use a more comfortable controller on the phone?
The portal is better than the backbone the lag time with the backbone is legit worse than the portal the backbone is also subscription based and you have to use the ps remote app to play games with the portal it’s a direct connection to your PS5.

The difference is the backbone can play iphone/android appstore games, emulators, gamepass games without owning an xbox and it can do remote play for xbox and playstation and not just playstation 5 like the portal but the ps4 too. So youre getting a better device thats more versatile for cheaper. Only difference is the controller is not as comfortable but its a good tradeoff because the backbone is actually portable unlike the playstation portal lol

@@khabibnurmagomoodov9287 it doesn't have extra features but the ergonomics are better, it actually feels like a real controller, the joysticks are also able to replicate real controller better because they're bigger and have more movement space. It doesn't have a battery because it connects directly through usb-c and no connection issues unless you have an iphone with lightning port which is incompatible.

@@khabibnurmagomoodov9287 yeah, as long as they have usb C. There's a mod you can do to have it extend further and allow for use of tablets, but I don't recommend that since tablets are quite heavy so you're better off using a standard controller at that point.
The backbone just doesn't give the same experience the portal does. The bigger screen, more comfortable control really what makes it. Also keep in mind, when you use the backbone, you lose the use of your phone besides gaming

Backbone is worth it especially if you have game pass. Game pass allows you to stream games on the go anywhere any time. You do not need a console to play those games either.

No, ass review, didn’t even cover the fact that the backbone is significantly more portable, doesn’t need ps link, can be used for Xbox or any other games from the App Store, yes it’s not nearly as comfortable to hold, but it is way more convenient
The v2 backbone does work with cases. It even has different adapters for different case thicknesses. There are now a few other controllers that do work with cases.

Costco has the backbone for $30... you also get a $25 PlayStation gift card so for the price the backbone is better portable wise.

You need a ps5 for both, you probably have a phone, just connect your controller to your phone and stream the games. It's the same experience.

I can play xbox gamepass with on my 5g network anywhere. Also remote play also works on mobile network sometimes too on the backbone.

This has already been proven false with videos of people playing on Starbucks wifi... you can also use your hotspot on your phone. I have done this with my Portal and can confirm it works.

Failed to mention the backbone can be used with a bunch of mobile games, I can also remote play my Xbox, and I can plug it into my PC and play pc games. None of which the portal can do. Pls stop glazing Sony. The portal is a crap product and reviews like this are a disservice to the community who want to actually know what they should invest in.

With the PlayStation portal u get the whole ps5 experience that the controller offers. And it’s the best remote play experience out there. I know u can use your phone but the PlayStation portal is optimized and full built for that it’s runs without lagging like a charm.

Backbone is 10000% better ! Beware those looking at which to buy, avoid disappointment and get the backbone which can be played AWAY FROM YOUR CONSOLE ANYWHERE. That alone the portal can not do! It’s Ass , and the backbone is built very well, doesn’t have issues, feels great for hours, idk what this dudes crying about, it’s completely comfortable and the button layout is nice, joysticks are great as well as a solid button feel. It does not have haptics outside of what your phone provides but this thing will also allow you to screen record or stream your gaming sessions, run remote or cloud gaming services, and your phone won’t “fall out” even swinging it or tipping it.. this guy misleads you by purposely leaving one side out of its socket and shakes it on screen to make it appear like it’s flimsy.. it’s not !
Could also just use your phone and a $15 dual sense phone holder and save yourself the money

Backbone: you need a back bone and a phone (you should already have one if your priorities are in order) $100, if your priorities aren’t shit or too young to buy a phone yourself, $800 - $1200

If the video is saved to your internal storage you can view it through remote play. If it requires streaming the app will not let you watch.

So, wouldn't the phone be better in this case? It's a phone. You can pair any controller to it. So the only metric that matters is quality. And if the quality on the phone is better than the portal, why not just use a more comfortable controller on the phone?

The portal is better than the backbone the lag time with the backbone is legit worse than the portal the backbone is also subscription based and you have to use the ps remote app to play games with the portal it’s a direct connection to your PS5.
Doesn’t run as smooth but chooses it anyway because you assume WiFi will fix it but you’re probably on the SAME WiFi network with the backbone and it runs much better? How could a lagging game device win over the non lagging one?

The difference is the backbone can play iphone/android appstore games, emulators, gamepass games without owning an xbox and it can do remote play for xbox and playstation and not just playstation 5 like the portal but the ps4 too. So youre getting a better device thats more versatile for cheaper. Only difference is the controller is not as comfortable but its a good tradeoff because the backbone is actually portable unlike the playstation portal lol

@@khabibnurmagomoodov9287 it doesn't have extra features but the ergonomics are better, it actually feels like a real controller, the joysticks are also able to replicate real controller better because they're bigger and have more movement space. It doesn't have a battery because it connects directly through usb-c and no connection issues unless you have an iphone with lightning port which is incompatible.

@@khabibnurmagomoodov9287 yeah, as long as they have usb C. There's a mod you can do to have it extend further and allow for use of tablets, but I don't recommend that since tablets are quite heavy so you're better off using a standard controller at that point.
Until the portal gets a firmware update to allow a browser to be opened for free wifi authentication, the backbone will always be better. Sorry

The backbone just doesn't give the same experience the portal does. The bigger screen, more comfortable control really what makes it. Also keep in mind, when you use the backbone, you lose the use of your phone besides gaming

Backbone is actually $75 and they give you $25 ps card to make it $100. I don’t think either are worth it but would be nice to play games while taking a shit sometimes.
Backbone is worth it especially if you have game pass. Game pass allows you to stream games on the go anywhere any time. You do not need a console to play those games either.

The v2 backbone does work with cases. It even has different adapters for different case thicknesses. There are now a few other controllers that do work with cases.
