Glad you have grown to love the portal. As I said in the last review as a dad the portal is perfect. The machine it's self is beautiful and the weight, you can play it forever. I love mine ♥️

I’ve really been loving my Portal ever since I got it for Christmas! It’s such a great device and the convenience it offers to be able to hang with the family in the living room, while still getting some rounds of SF6 in is unmatched. 👌🏾

I was legitimately in shock when you was at your mother-in-laws house cos it reminded me so much like my old house in W’stow 😂.
As always great video. I got a portal for my birthday last month and since then it has been a learning curve on how to improve the strength of my signal. I now have a Cat 8 Ethernet cable hooked up to my ps5 which has improved both download and upload speeds, but by looks of things you’ve already have great signals.
I got Avatar for Christmas but I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to play it… BACKLOG!!

I played my portal at the barbershop while waiting to get a haircut. There were no issues at all . I had the option of using the barbershop wifi or my cellphone hotspot .

As a dad I have really enjoyed having the portal. Is it a seamless as playing natively no but it gets the job done. I have been playing through a lot of the souls games lately. And I basically played almost all of dark souls 2 on the accessory. Being able to find small pockets of time to grind out different games has allowed me to finish more games. I was originally going to get a steam deck but this was the cheaper option and it allows me to still progress through games and get trophies on my playstation so it's a win for me. The thing I really want though is a better earbud option. The news ps link headphones maybe when they go on sale but they are just too expensive.
Steam deck is slightly more, but an entire game console + computer that runs any game from the last 25 years. But hey, you can stream your $500 console to your $200 device with lag. Oh yeah, and you can do that with the steam deck too

Great video as always Newtro! I personally don’t find any use of the ps portal as you need a stable WiFi connection at all times to play with it. But watching your review has made me realize how cool it really is! Great video, keep up the good work and I hope that this channel will blow up in 2024!

Hi Newtro, just got the PS Portal a few days ago and I agree, this accessory benefits those who have kids and especially if family would like to use the living room tv of which the PS5 is located. Most definitely will try this out of the home as I’ve heard people using across the world but the WiFi critically important. Great review! Btw have you looked into cases and grips for the PS Portal?

I've got a WiFi Booster in my bedroom so my connection is literally flawless with my Portal. As someone who hasn't used a handled since the OG PSP the Portal has been amazing. Hands down the most comfortable and convenient remote play device out there, as long as you have the perfect setup infrastructure for it
It’s not about speed of the internet it’s about overall wifi coverage. All the Portal needs to work properly is 15mb down and 5mb up. I have 25mb down and 5mb up and the portal works just fine. My overall wifi coverage in my home is perfect.

Great video. Some have suggested to unplug the HDMI cable from the PS5 to get better results too. For some reason the PS5 sends signals through the HDMI cable even though you are using the portal.
Sounds like a lot of effort to make a $200 device that requires a $500 console to work well

I picked this up 3 days ago and I love it. No lag, great for just lounging on the couch or on your bed, I went to my brother place and could play my games miles away from my home. It's awesome.

When you put your PlayStation to sleep mode does your monitor turns on when you try to connect to PS Portal? I had this problem and it kinda sucks, coz the tv(is what I use) will be always on if no one is at home to turn it off.
Sorry I didn’t cover these! Haven’t tried any headphones but hoping for my birthday to get the ear buds, but the sound quality out loud is incredible. And when turning on and off I’ve had no problems at all

These videos have helped I was getting frustrated with the quality of my portal to the point I wanted to return it. I have good internet but my ps5 was wirelessly connected which was my biggest issue thanks! Hope I am able to win the 30$ card to get some digital games to play on the go

Nice vid. I got my Portal for Christmas. I'm running it on a 100mbps fibre connection using my router's 5ghz channel. The PS5 has a wired connection to the router. So far I've tested a few different games: Baldur's Gate 3, GT7, Quake 3, Robocop and the Tekken 8 demo.
For the most part I've been impressed with the Portal. At times I forget that it's not playing the games natively. The only time I'm reminded is when it stutters, mainly in faster paced games like quake 2. I'm honestly impressed with the screen though - bright and colourful. I think it's more suited to slower games but since I mainly play RPGs it is perfect for me. One of the reasons I wanted one is because of the DualSense integration - it's not 1:1 with the full on DS as the sticks are smaller and they feel a bit looser, but it has the feel, which is why I wanted a Portal over using my steam deck for remote play.
That’s amazing to hear! I forget that as well… And if you are playing round the house or at a friends where there is good internet connection, then it is perfect.

I've still been sat on the fence about picking one of these up and this video may be the one that pushes me over. My one and only concern is with having kids sharing my bandwidth I might get sketchy results but great video and good that you can keep an open mind not to fully write it off after your first review. One thing about when we use it our own homes I don't think it's too reliant on internet speed but more so the wireless connection to talk to the PS5, I might be wrong on this and I'll happily stand corrected if so.
Also haven't Sony released a usb dongle for some sort of direct link to the console rather than via our router? Again if I'm wrong on this then please correct me 👍
I suggest you dedicate your 4g to everything in your house and leave 5g to your PS5, that’s is how i have it in my house and remote play goes great on mine IPad and i just have 80 mbps connection.
Hardwire (ethernet) your ps5 if you can. And maybe put your portal on the 5ghz frequency
Im so glad that you gave the portal another chance cuz i almost never play my ,,physical‘‘ ps5 anymore. Im always playing my games on the portal now although that really is a bit more annoying when your really far from your ps5. Ive been really enjoying your videos recently and they never fail to make me laugh:) Keep it up!

Glad it helped! Playing it bed is just so nice, being able to relax around the house… I was someone who wasn’t convinced about it but I think it’s a brilliant accessory if you’ve got the money to spare

Do you still get haptics? Remote play works flawlessly, on my Mac but no haptics or adaptive triggers. I'm seriously thinking about getting this, for when the tv is in use. Even tho i'm also still saving for a gaming monitor.

Who is your internet provider because 800mb download is very good . I only have 50mb download, and my portal is mostly ok but does glitch out now and then.

I really want one of these. I'm a dad gamer, married who also works full time & it's so difficult to find a reasonable amount of time to play anything, especially the more violent games.
Upload/download shouldn't really make a difference at home as you're running it on your homes wifi? Think it would only make a difference when you are playing it from another location. I've got mesh and remote play works fine using a tablet. I just find it a real faff to set up. Love how this thing just connects with minimal fuss.
Only problem is actually getting hold of one! It's like what trying to buy a ps5 used to be like as they are been scalped to hell.
Dad gamer here. Its a gamechanger. You gotta get one! People hating on it dont understand. Kids dont stop moving. I can follow my son from room to room, I can play while disney+ is on, and can game when the wife is ready to lay down.

Got my portal at christmas, my internet is only 35-40 Mbps, and I have no issues with it. I have WiFi boosters across my house so I have good signal everywhere, I play it at my in-laws 7 miles from home, and it's practically flawless there too, it's amazing bit of tech.
Had it for about two weeks now, and I love my PS Portal. My wife and kids get to have more sceeen time on the big tv, and I get more time to chip away at my not inconsiderable pile of shame. Performance at my house is great. I agree with LGN that it's not really for twitch-reflex games like COD because of the barely noticeable input lag, but anything else is fine. No regrets.
Listening to your community for a revisit to the portal. Great stream. Your download load speed is superb. This device would not be good for me as my internet connection speed is at best 40mbps

I got better low latency by changing my settings to 1080p, 120hz off and setting the ps5 to performance. I only change these settings when I'm going to game away from my gigabyte m32uc monitor. I've been doing this for a while since I would use chiaki on my steam deck to remote play. I'm sure you can go down to 720p it wouldn't make much difference on a screen that small

Love mine. I can play what's in the disc drive or play any digital game on my hard drive. Hard wired to my router and HDMI unplugged, and any game that isn't a multiplayer online game, and it runs fantastic.
The screen is significantly larger than my Steam Deck and ROG Ally.
It's nice to be able to play titles made for the Playstation on a portable dedicated Playstation device.

I have a question, how does the ps portal get on playing cloud games from the premium ps plus selection ? Ie. GOD OF WAR 1 which is only streamable on a ps5? Is there and extra lag because its second hand streaming?
