Glad you have grown to love the portal. As I said in the last review as a dad the portal is perfect. The machine it's self is beautiful and the weight, you can play it forever. I love mine ♥️
I’ve really been loving my Portal ever since I got it for Christmas! It’s such a great device and the convenience it offers to be able to hang with the family in the living room, while still getting some rounds of SF6 in is unmatched. 👌🏾

It’s not about speed of the internet it’s about overall wifi coverage. All the Portal needs to work properly is 15mb down and 5mb up. I have 25mb down and 5mb up and the portal works just fine. My overall wifi coverage in my home is perfect.
I've got a WiFi Booster in my bedroom so my connection is literally flawless with my Portal. As someone who hasn't used a handled since the OG PSP the Portal has been amazing. Hands down the most comfortable and convenient remote play device out there, as long as you have the perfect setup infrastructure for it

I played my portal at the barbershop while waiting to get a haircut. There were no issues at all . I had the option of using the barbershop wifi or my cellphone hotspot .
You don't have 890 megabytes per second download speed at home. You have like 111. You have 890 megaBITS per second down at home. 1 byte = 8 bits. Generally, Internet speed tests report speeds in bits, not bytes. Also idk what you're doing wrong or if your speed is just inconsistent, but even in your wired PS5 test, you're below the minimum Sony recommends for streaming away from home (15Mbps). Either Sony's test doesn't adequately test your upload speed or (happily!) they give you some overhead room with those figures. The two speeds that matter here are upload wherever your PS5 is and download wherever you are.

As a dad I have really enjoyed having the portal. Is it a seamless as playing natively no but it gets the job done. I have been playing through a lot of the souls games lately. And I basically played almost all of dark souls 2 on the accessory. Being able to find small pockets of time to grind out different games has allowed me to finish more games. I was originally going to get a steam deck but this was the cheaper option and it allows me to still progress through games and get trophies on my playstation so it's a win for me. The thing I really want though is a better earbud option. The news ps link headphones maybe when they go on sale but they are just too expensive.
Steam deck is slightly more, but an entire game console + computer that runs any game from the last 25 years. But hey, you can stream your $500 console to your $200 device with lag. Oh yeah, and you can do that with the steam deck too

Since getting the Portal, I've rarely played on the TV... the main times I'll go to the TV is when I'm fighting a particularly annoying boss in a game like Stellar Blade and having that little bit less input latency is enough to kill the boss, but honestly, for Stellar Blade, I've actually completed several bosses purely just on the Portal without issues. It's just more convenient to play in bed after a long day at work, and the Portal is so comfortable to hold, even its weight is not an issue in bed. Works well most of the time, occasionally it gets a bit weird and the frame rate doesn't quite feel like a true 60, like it's dropping frames or something, but it rarely affects gameplay in a meaningful way, and it's far more powerful than what you're playing on a Switch as all the processing happens on a full console. It changed how I use my PS5 in a way that other remote play options failed to do, because the experience was always bad, either because of how complex it was to set up (from a time perspective), or just because it didn't offer a good experience (small phone screen, crappy speakers). The Portal's 8 inch screen is amazing, it may not be an OLED, but that screen is legit, it also feels like it's just the right size for something like this, and of course, you have a real DualSense, which not only gives you the comfort of a PS5 controller, but also all the features that go with it. It's just a really nice way to use remote play..
I picked this up 3 days ago and I love it. No lag, great for just lounging on the couch or on your bed, I went to my brother place and could play my games miles away from my home. It's awesome.

I'm waiting and waiting for stock on the portal. This device was actually recommended by my mom's husband, 50+ years old but super big gaming fan. The portal will definitely come in handy when my son is hogging the tv again LOL.
Got my portal at christmas, my internet is only 35-40 Mbps, and I have no issues with it. I have WiFi boosters across my house so I have good signal everywhere, I play it at my in-laws 7 miles from home, and it's practically flawless there too, it's amazing bit of tech.
I get my PS Portal tonight and I am super excited! I did not want to get one at first but then I realized while my wife watches her shows I can game. Win win baby!!
I really want one of these. I'm a dad gamer, married who also works full time & it's so difficult to find a reasonable amount of time to play anything, especially the more violent games. Upload/download shouldn't really make a difference at home as you're running it on your homes wifi? Think it would only make a difference when you are playing it from another location. I've got mesh and remote play works fine using a tablet. I just find it a real faff to set up. Love how this thing just connects with minimal fuss. Only problem is actually getting hold of one! It's like what trying to buy a ps5 used to be like as they are been scalped to hell.
Dad gamer here. Its a gamechanger. You gotta get one! People hating on it dont understand. Kids dont stop moving. I can follow my son from room to room, I can play while disney+ is on, and can game when the wife is ready to lay down.

Newtro reviews are what the gaming community needs. Honest, and told from an objective point of view of an actual gamer. I love the idea of handhelds but I just don't have a practical need for it since I'm never gaming on the go. The idea of gaming on the run takes me back to my gameboy advance days as a kid and trading pokemon with my friends.

I’m glad you changed your view. I’ve loved my portal from the beginning. I find having the handheld gaming. I don’t like spending hours playing a game in front of my tv.
I use to remote play with a laptop on my PS4 when I traveled for work, biggest problem I had was the TV at home would turn on and switch to the PS4. It freaked my wife out.
Your speeds aren't in MBytes (MBps) they are in Mbits (Mbps). The speeds are actually 8 times slower. So 800 Mbps is 100 MBps. And upload is 1.5 MBps. Download is perfectly fine but Upload is pretty low.

Thing is i wish it was a standalone device where you can play everywhere you go without streaming from your ps5,like a portable ps5 but not streaming from your ps5
These videos have helped I was getting frustrated with the quality of my portal to the point I wanted to return it. I have good internet but my ps5 was wirelessly connected which was my biggest issue thanks! Hope I am able to win the 30$ card to get some digital games to play on the go
Only problem i have is that when i go from my bedroom that had my wifi n everything to it when i go to my back dock i lose internet connection n my room is next door not sure why maybe upgrade my internet but i have a fast internet connection but other then that its been great

Had it for about two weeks now, and I love my PS Portal. My wife and kids get to have more sceeen time on the big tv, and I get more time to chip away at my not inconsiderable pile of shame. Performance at my house is great. I agree with LGN that it's not really for twitch-reflex games like COD because of the barely noticeable input lag, but anything else is fine. No regrets.

Upload speed is very important! Think this way...PS5 is uploading stream via your network. If the Upload speed is very limited, your experience may vary a lot. Remember, you need 15 Mbps minimum for best quality. Your PS Portal is using DL Speed, and your PS5 is using Upload Speed.

Great video. Some have suggested to unplug the HDMI cable from the PS5 to get better results too. For some reason the PS5 sends signals through the HDMI cable even though you are using the portal.

I got better low latency by changing my settings to 1080p, 120hz off and setting the ps5 to performance. I only change these settings when I'm going to game away from my gigabyte m32uc monitor. I've been doing this for a while since I would use chiaki on my steam deck to remote play. I'm sure you can go down to 720p it wouldn't make much difference on a screen that small
The Portal is definitely a step in the right direction, but it would be cool to see Sony launch another portable PlayStation console so we could play without an internet connection. Great video as always!

Nice vid. I got my Portal for Christmas. I'm running it on a 100mbps fibre connection using my router's 5ghz channel. The PS5 has a wired connection to the router. So far I've tested a few different games: Baldur's Gate 3, GT7, Quake 3, Robocop and the Tekken 8 demo. For the most part I've been impressed with the Portal. At times I forget that it's not playing the games natively. The only time I'm reminded is when it stutters, mainly in faster paced games like quake 2. I'm honestly impressed with the screen though - bright and colourful. I think it's more suited to slower games but since I mainly play RPGs it is perfect for me. One of the reasons I wanted one is because of the DualSense integration - it's not 1:1 with the full on DS as the sticks are smaller and they feel a bit looser, but it has the feel, which is why I wanted a Portal over using my steam deck for remote play.
That’s amazing to hear! I forget that as well… And if you are playing round the house or at a friends where there is good internet connection, then it is perfect. I’m playing it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would!
Love mine. I can play what's in the disc drive or play any digital game on my hard drive. Hard wired to my router and HDMI unplugged, and any game that isn't a multiplayer online game, and it runs fantastic. The screen is significantly larger than my Steam Deck and ROG Ally. It's nice to be able to play titles made for the Playstation on a portable dedicated Playstation device.
With me wired into my internet, my portal runs fantastic. I was worried trying dragons dogma 2 would play like crap but it is running great for me, so far at least

Hey! Ur PS5 probably requires the upload speed and portal probably requires the download speed. So the 12.1 upload is very low.
Yeh, summat is up with his connection, router or cabling.
I get better upload speeds than that on Fibre to the cabinet (70mb connection) 😂😂

I’m glad you changed your view. I’ve loved my portal from the beginning. I find having the handheld gaming. I don’t like spending hours playing a game in front of my tv.
I use to remote play with a laptop on my PS4 when I traveled for work, biggest problem I had was the TV at home would turn on and switch to the PS4. It freaked my wife out.
If i can find the ps portal on discount, I think it would be a useful item to have
Your speeds aren't in MBytes (MBps) they are in Mbits (Mbps). The speeds are actually 8 times slower. So 800 Mbps is 100 MBps. And upload is 1.5 MBps. Download is perfectly fine but Upload is pretty low.
I just mentioned this as well. People need to learn the proper terms, as there are huge differences between the little b and the big B.

I found i HAD to turn the console screen settings to 1080p and can only do that on the console. If it was left on 4k it made the Portal unplayable
These videos have helped I was getting frustrated with the quality of my portal to the point I wanted to return it. I have good internet but my ps5 was wirelessly connected which was my biggest issue thanks! Hope I am able to win the 30$ card to get some digital games to play on the go
Only problem i have is that when i go from my bedroom that had my wifi n everything to it when i go to my back dock i lose internet connection n my room is next door not sure why maybe upgrade my internet but i have a fast internet connection but other then that its been great

I have fiber and 500MBs, so my download/upload are equal. I just need a Portal to be able to try it out.
When looking at the internet speed for the portal the important number is the upload speed because the PS5 needs to "upload" the feed to the portal
Had it for about two weeks now, and I love my PS Portal. My wife and kids get to have more sceeen time on the big tv, and I get more time to chip away at my not inconsiderable pile of shame. Performance at my house is great. I agree with LGN that it's not really for twitch-reflex games like COD because of the barely noticeable input lag, but anything else is fine. No regrets.

Upload speed is very important! Think this way...PS5 is uploading stream via your network. If the Upload speed is very limited, your experience may vary a lot. Remember, you need 15 Mbps minimum for best quality. Your PS Portal is using DL Speed, and your PS5 is using Upload Speed.

Great video. Some have suggested to unplug the HDMI cable from the PS5 to get better results too. For some reason the PS5 sends signals through the HDMI cable even though you are using the portal.
Sounds like a lot of effort to make a $200 device that requires a $500 console to work well

I got better low latency by changing my settings to 1080p, 120hz off and setting the ps5 to performance. I only change these settings when I'm going to game away from my gigabyte m32uc monitor. I've been doing this for a while since I would use chiaki on my steam deck to remote play. I'm sure you can go down to 720p it wouldn't make much difference on a screen that small
Ordered mine. I just play on my switch allot and I have to share the tv. It´s also great to watch my series that I have on dvd while the tv is taken.

The Portal is definitely a step in the right direction, but it would be cool to see Sony launch another portable PlayStation console so we could play without an internet connection. Great video as always!
The portal has changed my gamer life......as a dad....instead of sitting through watching cartoons on a Saturday afternoon....I can game from the bed or anywhere else without moving the entire system

Nice vid. I got my Portal for Christmas. I'm running it on a 100mbps fibre connection using my router's 5ghz channel. The PS5 has a wired connection to the router. So far I've tested a few different games: Baldur's Gate 3, GT7, Quake 3, Robocop and the Tekken 8 demo.
For the most part I've been impressed with the Portal. At times I forget that it's not playing the games natively. The only time I'm reminded is when it stutters, mainly in faster paced games like quake 2. I'm honestly impressed with the screen though - bright and colourful. I think it's more suited to slower games but since I mainly play RPGs it is perfect for me. One of the reasons I wanted one is because of the DualSense integration - it's not 1:1 with the full on DS as the sticks are smaller and they feel a bit looser, but it has the feel, which is why I wanted a Portal over using my steam deck for remote play.

Love mine. I can play what's in the disc drive or play any digital game on my hard drive. Hard wired to my router and HDMI unplugged, and any game that isn't a multiplayer online game, and it runs fantastic.
The screen is significantly larger than my Steam Deck and ROG Ally.
It's nice to be able to play titles made for the Playstation on a portable dedicated Playstation device.
With me wired into my internet, my portal runs fantastic. I was worried trying dragons dogma 2 would play like crap but it is running great for me, so far at least
