Users report encountering MacBook black screen issues quite often, since Apple’s devices are largely considered the most reliable on the market. Once your MacBook Pro screen blacks out there’s only so much you can do to diagnose the problem and implement possible solutions. Follow this complete list of steps you should take to repair your device if the Mac screen keeps going black.
Method 1: Wakup Mac or Force to Shutdown
If you can increase or decrease birghtness but the screen is still black, you can try to sleep your Mac and wake it up. If it doesn't help, one of the methods that works for fixing many tech issues is giving your device a full restart, which resets the operating system, clearing any temporary files that might be causing the problem on startup. Here are shortcuts for you:
Bring up dialog: Control+Power
Sleep Mac: Option+Command+Power
Force to restart: Hold Power button
Method 2: Reset SMC
The Systems Management Controller, or SMC, is a Mac feature for managing things like temperature, keyboard, display, fans, and other processes. Resetting SMC can help resolve some issues like Mac not starting up, not displaying video, or if your Mac screen keeps going black. Key Combiniations to reset SMC:
Mac computers with Apple silicon: Restart or shutdown
Laptop computer with the T2 chip:
•Control on the left side of your keyboard
•Option (Alt) on the left side of your keyboard
•Shift on the right side of your keyboard
•Power button
Laptop computer without the T2 chip:
•Shift on the left side of your keyboard
•Control on the left side of your keyboard
•Option (Alt) on the left side of your keyboard
•Power button
Method 3: Reset NVRAM or PRAM
NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory) and PRAM (Parameter RAM) are both small memory partitions that store Mac settings like volume control and display resolution to be able to access them quickly. If one or both of these memory partitions gets “stuck,” the MacBook screen goes black but still running. At this point a reset will help.
Keys to reset NVRAM or PRAM on Intel-based Mac: Option+Command+P+R
Method 4: Boot Mac in Safe Mode
Starting up your Mac in Safe Mode can help identify whether issues you're experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. Safe Mode allows you to power on your Mac while preventing non-essential apps and login items from booting up.
How to boot Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode:
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
3. Select the Voume and hold Shif key, click Continue in Safe Mode.
How to boot Intel-based Mac in safe mode:
1. Restart, press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
2. Enter login password.
Method 5: Reinstall macOS
If all else fails, you can give your Mac a new life with a fresh reinstall of macOS, which can help get rid of corrupt files or bugs present in the previous version. This process will require you to boot into recovery mode and choose a macOS version during the reinstallation process. Here are keys to boot Mac in Recovery mode:
Mac with Apple silicon: Hold Power button until you see the startup options screen
Intel-based Mac: Command+R

Shift + Control + Option + Power On worked! It took me to a screen where I had to select my hard drive, then it worked. Thanks.
It worked for about 10 minutes, then I saw about seven vertical lines at the bottom of my screen then my screen went black again. When I turned my computer off and then on again, the Apple icon comes up and the status bar begins to load then it goes blank. Now none of the options you mentioned are working.

What did you do? @@abhinavm5952
@@ChristLikeBaby rude + no one asked
Well, even from Apple store they could not get my black screen fixed
Oh my fucking gosh I love you so much dude
When I close the lid of my MacBook Pro and open it, the screen becomes blank but it keeps running. What do you think I should do?
It’s probably thirsty and needs a drink. Have you tried pouring water in it?
i have a MPB 15" 2016 but it's very unusual... i can use normal for about 2 to 3 hours.. then the screen shuts down.. and i have to pwer off and wait at least 1 hour to turn on again.. to keep working.. does anyone have the same issue and how your fix it? is the motherboard or the screen is broke i dunno?..
The solutions offered by Apple are a mockery to users: The real failure is a hardware bug that affects a massive number of M1 devices onwards.
Nothing is work 😢
The screen on d black so telling me to look at any options on a black screen is pointless. I don’t think you thought that through.
none of these worked for me, i couldn't see the apple logo when i turned on the computer in any of these methods. is there anything else i could do?
have you found out the solution? i have the same problem here
😢 I am facing the exact same problem
Same for me. Suddenly it stopped working.
Same here! update me guys please if any of u found a solution
Guys i have an idea, just say: siri, make it so my screen isn't black
Wow, great! 👍
How can i select those options? When my screen is black 😞
If it doesn’t work then your screen is bad change it
Thx! It worked. But after a couple of days later, my daughter plugged in to charge and it wouldn’t power up again. I had to do the reset smc process u showed and booted up once again.. any idea why have to keep resetting the smc? Thx
problem here is how to solve black screen with pointer only after a login screen ??? Macbook starts normally and login screen appears but whenever i put password for the user then hit enter it doesn't load desktop screen only black with pointer ? plz help me
Use lesse for Mac with Apple ship
1:47 😂😂😂😂 the AI robo voice…
Nothing worked! 😭😭😭
Method 5: Reinstall MacOS. It says it can't reinstall because it has too many files? I need to take off 17,99 GB to install.
It could be. So you could back up data first.
“hold the power butt” 💀
That's all good but I knew pretty much all that already. Not gonna reinstall my whole OS without knowing the actual cause of the problem... it just happens every once in a while. Not very helpful unless one's a total noob.
If you're so knowledgeable why are you looking up videos.
To see if it's a common issue with a specific solution... What's the problem?@@tonytooshort
Thank you it worked if I didn’t I wouldn’t of gotten beaten up by my parents
Got saved from being whooped
