!!!!! It worked!!! I had the black screen... had to use the hdmi port for the past month. Ordered in the $12 kit for the pentalobe screwdrivers... in the meantime, took the computer to the Mac Outpost in St Catharines (returned it to me saying ‘yes, Screen is dead... $800 for a new one’... found your video... pentalobes came in... opened the case... disconnected the memory... disconnected the long cable... couldn’t disconnect the two battery flaps... reassembled again... turned on and it was black... Tried the PRAM reset... BOOM!!!! Amazing......... saved me $800 for the $12 screwdriver kit. Great work!!! Hopefully this lasts??? Seems good though! I am absofknglutely amazed. Good luck everyone. NO WAY!!!! My 2013 MacBook Pro had this issue for like an entire year and a half. Although I could hear the start up sound, the screen would stay completely black. I looked up videos on how to fix and all they told me to do was press and hold keys. It never worked, so I put it away. Strangely, I pulled out the MacBook today after so long and decided to charge it, to see it it was good now, but no, same black screen. I decided to look up online again, how to fix it, and I came across your video as the first result. I watched it, did like you did, and it WORKED!!! 😱 I am very shocked and very thankful my brother. Just wanted to give you a massive thank you, I tried all key commands multiple times to no avail, bought a kit to open the bottom and like others I was concerned about my hard drive because I wasn't certain it was 100% backed up but removed the bottom, disconnected the battery, cleaned it (which was much needed) and screwed everything back in and it turn right on!! Once again, I appreciate your work!
@@tinacarlisle6207 I went to my local computer store (mine being micro center) and bought the iFixit Essential Electronic Tool Kit and they came with multiple bits, the specific ones are P5 Pentalobe bit and a TR8 torx bit

After calling Apple and my local repair shop. I came to this video, as I'm reading the comments and watching. My Macbook Pro turns on and I'm freaking out.
I had the same problem so I tried to follow the steps you suggested. After I opened the cover and found out that I did not have the right screw driver to remove the hard drive and batteries stuff. So I just wiped the inside clean and shake off some dust collected over the last 5 years. Close the cover, the laptop is working NOW! But still thanks for posting the video for pointing me the right direction.
I actually didn’t have the tools to open my Mac so I went on to search for other possible solutions. I saw that while powered off, you can shake your mac book with the lid slightly open (approximately 4 inches for me) and then try to power it on. Surprisingly, this worked for me so please try this to possibly save yourself some time. Thank you!!

EXTRA TIP: I did all this, mine still didn’t work. I figured if a fall make it break, maybe a hit will fix it..? So I slapped the top and the bottom of my laptop firmly but not too hard and IT WORKED!!
It worked and I even skipped the part where you suggest removing the hard drive because I didn’t have a screwdriver that fit or it was too tightly in there but I did remove the battery as described and when I closed it and turned it on it works perfectly. Before this I tried every possible combination of command, option, control, R and delete suggestions out there and even had an Apple tech walk me through commands but this is the only thing that finally worked. Thank you because you saved me from expensive repair and/or just breaking down and getting an updated model even though my 2015 MacBook Pro suits my needs just fine. Thank you. Many blessings to you

I got my macbook air at the start of 2019 and it has been completely fine until now but recently something has changed. It was making crackly noises, it kept flickering black and it stayed on 2% for 2 days even when I charged it. What is really interesting is that I started having the blackout screen and fixed it in the oddest way. The screen lights up when I open tiles games in my Hoyle Games app. Is that weird or what?

@@Nuke11Proof Did you try boot up without your ssd? Maybe is a short circuit in this part... this I don't tested yet. Try boot up with usb only. Did you'll replace your mobo? Everything from apple is too expensive now in my country. I'm using hackintosh for work by the last 2 years and it's amazing in performance. You should try if you doesn't intent to buy a new mobo
Guys, my computer does this sometimes when it turns on, just remove the power cable and wait while it makes the noises and the screen will then wake up
After trying all the key command resets (SMC, etc.) and having nothing work, I finally cracked open the Mac and disconnected and reconnected the battery. Finally working now! Thank you.

What if fan is only working 1 sec then pulse light blink for 1 sec as well. I have mbp 2012. I was so frustrated because nothing was working for me, and while trying another key combination I unexpectedly made it work again! I was holding the power button down (I have a MacBook Pro 2019 touch bar) and accidentally pressed the DELETE button, which is right next to the power button, and it came back to life again like nothing happened! I have no idea what was the problem. My laptop was on, I closed the lid, and when I opened it back it was completely dead. It was making the "charging" noise when plugging in the power cord though. I share this hoping it helps out someone out there, cuz it's so damn frustrating not finding a solution. It's kind of funny how I did.

This makes me mad.. i just bought a brand new macbook pro 2019 and used it maybe 2-3 times. Then all of the sudden i get black screen with 80% battery. They say mac is so reliable and never crash -_-
@@Tips2Fix Well, i charged it for about 15min even tho it had enough battery and screen turned on fine. But then the keyboard, trackpad and wifi didnt work. Rebooted and now seems fine again. I thought maybe it wasnt a brand new one, but it was sealed and had all protection on it when i unboxed. Hope theres an update coming to fix whatever the issue is. Its just frustrating spending your hard earned cash on something you trust for reliability and have to deal with troubleshooting. Interesting enough my macbook pro 2017 never had any issues like that. I guess it must really be something with the new 2019 models.

could you try to see with a flashlight if you still have an image? there is a chance that the backlight fuse is gone. if not you might have to change the screen..
@@ZainAli-zv8nt that sounds like a backlight chip issue. you would have to get a technician to repair it. its unfortunately a quite common error on macbooks. Louis Rossman demonstrates several cases of this issue.
Not wanting to speak too soon but after trying a hundred things to stop my intermittent boot up failure from happening, I tried your recommendation. Embarrassingly, all this time, l had no idea there was even a removable SSD in my 15" early 2013 (thought everything was soldered). Since removing it, blowing some dust out and reseating it again, the MacBook has not failed to boot once and the random crashes to black - which could strike at any time - are gone! You sir are a hero!
i have the same problem and the apple autharized provider refused to repair it bc it is vintage they think. I wish I have that screwdriver to solve my problem
Disconnecting the battery is THE FIRST thing you should do when you have the computer open. And reconnecting the battery is THE LAST thing you should do when you reassemble it!

Hi, i used a macbook but technically a windows user. I have this problem for awhile now and that my macbook hasn't boot or startup through my windows account. I have tried many common methods and yet all the outcome has come unsuccessful. i also tried to switch os's (power on + press and hold option) but didn't work either, i have no other options yet but this method you are demonstrating could possibly solve it and i hope it would, I'll give updates whether or not this would work!

I think instead of permanent blackout, many of us faces a "temporary-blackout". That is why some of our mac got turned on by itself even when we did nothing yet. To the experts, do you know what cause that temporary blackout? And what should we do or replace? Thank youu.

This truly does work! I have a (Mid) 2015 Macbook Pro that had a display problem (glitching) until it finally stopped working - black screen!. However the external output worked which means I was able to make an immediate backup and try to solve the problem. I followed the basic instructions in this video - given I have a different model Mac. I tried to reset all of the software parameters (not really believing it was software) but went through the process. Did not change things... I then disconnected the internal battery connections as well as the SSD. I had to repeat this process 3 times before all things functioned properly but it is truly amazing. Disconnecting the power and drive and re-connecting was the solution! This Macbook Pro has been re-born from the trash heap! Thank you - thank you - thank you!!!!!
You are lucky this method worked for you. I have been having this issue for more than a week now, I literally tried every method possible, nothing seems to work. The difference between your issue and mine is that the fan only works, no keyboard light whatsoever, no logo light, and mine didn't fall either.

Thanks - it worked after repeating the last method for a few times! I had to connected a monitor get my macbook to work like a computer. Now I can finally use it as a laptop! The only issue that I am having is my macbook became much slower than before (even compared to when I hooked up to a monitor after things didn't work) Has anyone been having the same issue?

It was making crackly noises, it kept flickering black and it stayed on 2% for 2 days even when I charged it. I tried shutting it down in hopes that my mac just needed a rest but I haven't been able to turn it on since I have tried everything other then taking the bottom off of the mac because it is a school laptop and my mom would be furious. Does anyone has anything that could help at all I'm desperate as school starts in a month and if my mum thinks I messed it up she'll be fuming

Strange fix: Hello. I have an old 2008 Macbook which was actually made in late 2007. So, I cannot update it. What is really interesting is that I started having the blackout screen and fixed it in the oddest way. The screen lights up when I open tiles games in my Hoyle Games app. Is that weird or what?
Similar problem. Black screen,only hear the start up chime. I have tried everything. Ive done the SMC check didnt do anything. Also been charging for hours but still amber,caps lock light comes on but once i pull charger off cant do anything. Light on the apple logo is not working even when charging help please !!!!!!!

@@Nuke11Proof Did you try boot up without your ssd? Maybe is a short circuit in this part... this I don't tested yet. Try boot up with usb only. Did you'll replace your mobo? Everything from apple is too expensive now in my country. I'm using hackintosh for work by the last 2 years and it's amazing in performance. You should try if you doesn't intent to buy a new mobo

Guys, my computer does this sometimes when it turns on, just remove the power cable and wait while it makes the noises and the screen will then wake up
You can try this method also to dry battery to 0%

My Solution: disconnect display cable of board and reconnect
After trying all the key command resets (SMC, etc.) and having nothing work, I finally cracked open the Mac and disconnected and reconnected the battery. Finally working now! Thank you.

I had issue where I couldn’t see the logo and even though it’s turned on but then the display goes full blank! I opened it up and then unplugged the ssd and plugged it back and it fixed it

I was so frustrated because nothing was working for me, and while trying another key combination I unexpectedly made it work again!
I was holding the power button down (I have a MacBook Pro 2019 touch bar) and accidentally pressed the DELETE button, which is right next to the power button, and it came back to life again like nothing happened!
I have no idea what was the problem. My laptop was on, I closed the lid, and when I opened it back it was completely dead. It was making the "charging" noise when plugging in the power cord though.
I share this hoping it helps out someone out there, cuz it's so damn frustrating not finding a solution. It's kind of funny how I did.

@@Tips2Fix Well, i charged it for about 15min even tho it had enough battery and screen turned on fine. But then the keyboard, trackpad and wifi didnt work. Rebooted and now seems fine again. I thought maybe it wasnt a brand new one, but it was sealed and had all protection on it when i unboxed. Hope theres an update coming to fix whatever the issue is. Its just frustrating spending your hard earned cash on something you trust for reliability and have to deal with troubleshooting. Interesting enough my macbook pro 2017 never had any issues like that. I guess it must really be something with the new 2019 models.

I was backing up my iPhone and went to make a FaceTime call on my MacBook when suddenly the screen went black. could you try to see with a flashlight if you still have an image? there is a chance that the backlight fuse is gone. if not you might have to change the screen..

@@ZainAli-zv8nt that sounds like a backlight chip issue. you would have to get a technician to repair it. its unfortunately a quite common error on macbooks. Louis Rossman demonstrates several cases of this issue.

Pilot youll need to replace a chip on the motherboard, so look around for a board repair shop in your area.

Not wanting to speak too soon but after trying a hundred things to stop my intermittent boot up failure from happening, I tried your recommendation. Embarrassingly, all this time, l had no idea there was even a removable SSD in my 15" early 2013 (thought everything was soldered). Since removing it, blowing some dust out and reseating it again, the MacBook has not failed to boot once and the random crashes to black - which could strike at any time - are gone! You sir are a hero!

Try to disconnect the battery now , motherboard need to be with no power for some minutes and try to commenct the batery connector back

Hi, i used a macbook but technically a windows user. I have this problem for awhile now and that my macbook hasn't boot or startup through my windows account. I have tried many common methods and yet all the outcome has come unsuccessful. i also tried to switch os's (power on + press and hold option) but didn't work either, i have no other options yet but this method you are demonstrating could possibly solve it and i hope it would, I'll give updates whether or not this would work!

I think instead of permanent blackout, many of us faces a "temporary-blackout". That is why some of our mac got turned on by itself even when we did nothing yet.

This truly does work! I have a (Mid) 2015 Macbook Pro that had a display problem (glitching) until it finally stopped working - black screen!. However the external output worked which means I was able to make an immediate backup and try to solve the problem. I followed the basic instructions in this video - given I have a different model Mac. I tried to reset all of the software parameters (not really believing it was software) but went through the process. Did not change things... I then disconnected the internal battery connections as well as the SSD. I had to repeat this process 3 times before all things functioned properly but it is truly amazing. Disconnecting the power and drive and re-connecting was the solution! This Macbook Pro has been re-born from the trash heap! Thank you - thank you - thank you!!!!!

You are lucky this method worked for you. I have been having this issue for more than a week now, I literally tried every method possible, nothing seems to work. The difference between your issue and mine is that the fan only works, no keyboard light whatsoever, no logo light, and mine didn't fall either.
So your Mac book maybe have Motherboard issues, or GPU

Thanks - it worked after repeating the last method for a few times! I had to connected a monitor get my macbook to work like a computer. Now I can finally use it as a laptop! The only issue that I am having is my macbook became much slower than before (even compared to when I hooked up to a monitor after things didn't work) Has anyone been having the same issue?
