    To purchasers of the device: I've noticed sometimes when I load the N64 unit with the adapter, the game is muted despite TV volume working. When that happens, switch the aspect ratio on the device to the opposite (i.e. 4:3 to 16:9 / vice versa); the audio should come back just fine. Happy gaming y'all!

    That upscaler had an amazing affect on the audio of Orcarina. The standard version had the weird squill/humming noise. The upscaled audio was much crisper 😜

      Not something I’d buy. I don’t play N64 enough to care to invest. I also have dated crt or non-hdmi monitors. So, I wouldn’t buy it unless I just happened to find it for $10.

    Great video! I'd like to see how it works on the Super Nintendo as well. My old systems are in my son's room, and he hooks them up directly through the A/V cords, and the N64 and the SNES both look muddy as hell. They look a lot better on the 20 year old tube TV in my daughter's room! I've been looking for an alternative, so I'll check this out. How was the lag with this thing?

    • @Majora_T
      @Majora_T  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks dschult3! This is definitely a budget-friendly method for reducing the mud. Even though CRT is as authentic as it gets, HDMI quite frankly tends to be the more practical method.
      So far, no major latency issues during capture but my tests were minimal. I'll get back to you in the comments during the week if something comes up.

    Picked this up, I don't seem to notice any difference...if anything the image quality might actually be worse?
    I messed around with the video settings on my TV too and no dice.
    It could be as you mentioned, that these games were made a certain way and can only increase resolution so much.
    What's weird though is that I bought a PS2 to hdmi converter as well and the difference now is like night and day. The games look very crisp.
    Still a great video though, appreciate you making this!

      That’s exactly what makes me hesitant to drop 150 on Aeon’s product - at the end of the day, we’re upscaling 64-bit games.
      The PS1/2 converter served me well too but I also got mine from Hyperkin whereas the N64 converter featured here is generic.
      Thanks for the kind words and sharing your experience!

      @Majora_T  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the record I don’t own the more expensive models (yet) but as far as a budget converter goes, this gets the job done decently. Some games like Kirby 64 do look worse though so it’s 50 50.

      So I’ve never had that issue happen or if I have the game may have just frozen.
      I do have some follow up questions:
      Is it happening with multiple games?
      Is it happening frequently?
      Does it happen with any other tv hookup (like the RBY cables)?
      On speculation, it sounds like it may be a console issue like the reset button may be miscalibrated or something but I’m not sure.

    Chances are you do not need to power the converter, your TV will supply power to it via the USB. I've used converters before that are like that and that's usually the case.
    Only difference I notice is the outer glow of the ocarina of time logo went from orange to white
    The brightness is pretty noticeable in Kirby 64 though which would be slightly bothersome to me.
    Regardless I use Mupen anyways so I don't really care much about upscaling.

    • @Majora_T
      @Majora_T  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooh! Good call, Terry. If the opposite proves true, I will come back later and leave a reply to the comment -- otherwise, let's just assume the TV will also charge the unit.
      Yeah, the graphical fidelity isn't great but I think what's best is that a lot of the murk goes away through the conversion. Kirby is in fact too bright post-conversion.

    I’m just gonna let everyone know that this is just slightly better s-video, compared next to composite, this is not HDMI nor is it RGB. The n64 does not support RGB unless it’s a pal region console and that can only be captured with a RGB compatible scart cable and unless you RGB mod your n64 you will not get the best possible quality I recommend the retrotink mini if you are plan on using S-video or composite. If you want the best possible quality you will either need scart or custom component cables with a upscaler. Retrotink mini is the best cheap solution and you can use it with more then 3 consoles.

    Why doesn't mine work on the smart tv

    • @Majora_T
      @Majora_T  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've got mine hooked up to smart tv right now. Took a little finangling but here are some general suggestions:
      1. Is your adapter plugged into a USB power source? I had to switch to a different USB source.
      2. I think the device needed to warm up for a moment or so too.
      3. Try switching back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3 on the adapter.
      You'll know it's functioning once you see a completely blue screen with a little text on it. Anything after that is due to aged pins on the cartridges or console itself.

      Never happened to me. Perhaps the power source is not producing enough voltage? Try a different USB source or cable.

    This has the worst reviews on Amazon. I bought an Auvi RCA to HDMI which I was recommended to do as I hadn’t received a multi out connector with my N64 and RCA to HDMI has nothing to put in to the multi out Av connector slot on my console. £17 bucks down the drain!

      @@Zarahma I get that blue screen before the console turns on but is plugged in so that is a sign it's hooked up and working.
      It could be the cartridge you have in or that your N64 needs a cleaning; have you tested the unit with standard AV cables as well?

      Malta Master interesting, on my end, I get a much brighter picture, sometimes too bright per the Kirby 64, but the textures are less fuzzy.
