I spent a day driving the brand new 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid, and it was incredible. This Model S Plaid cost $150,000 total after all taxes/fees & optional upgrades. It's a fantastic car with some quirky new features & insane performance. It has 390 miles of range, goes 0-60 mph in 2 seconds, has a top speed of 200 mph, with 1,000+ horsepower. It has a new interior with a 17” Cinematic Display featuring 2200x1300 resolution, ultra bright, true colors and exceptional responsiveness. A new yoke replaces the old steering wheel with no stalks, no shifting. The 2021 Model S has a clean, powerful yet invisible cabin conditioning. Tri-zone temperature controls, ventilated front seats and HEPA filtration come standard. It seats up to 5 adults and has a redesigned second row with extra legroom, headroom and a stowable armrest with integrated storage and wireless charging. Up to 10 teraflops of processing power enables in-car gaming on-par with today’s newest consoles. Wireless controller compatibility lets you game from any seat. Multi-device Bluetooth, wireless and USB-C charging for every passenger, with enough power to fast-charge your tablets and laptop. A 22-speaker, 960-watt audio system with active noise canceling offers the best listening experience at home or on the road. With front and rear trunks and fold-flat seats, Model S is a luxury car where you can fit your bike without taking the wheel off, and your luggage too. With the longest range and quickest acceleration of any electric vehicle in production, Model S Plaid is the highest performing sedan ever built. Both Long Range and Plaid powertrains, with updated battery architecture, are capable of back-to-back, consistent 1/4 mile runs. Long Range and Plaid platforms unite powertrain and battery technologies for unrivaled performance, range and efficiency. New module and pack thermal architecture allows faster charging and gives you more power and endurance in all conditions. Tri motor All-Wheel Drive platform with torque vectoring features three independent motors, each with a carbon-sleeved rotor that maintains peak power output all the way to top speed. With the lowest drag coefficient on Earth and unmatched efficiency, Model S is built for speed and range. Together with a wider body and chassis, these elements help you go down the straight or around corners quicker than ever. Responsive Performance with staggered, performance-focused wheels and tires keep the car planted and transfer even more power down to the road. Optimized Aerodynamics and attention to detail on all exterior surfaces makes Model S the most aerodynamic production car on Earth. Refined Styling: Exterior design combines an iconic look with elegant proportions. Access to 25,000+ Superchargers globally. By combining up to 405 miles of estimated range with Tesla fast charging technology, you’ll spend less time charging and even more time on the road.

Definitely nothing new for 2021….welcome to Tesla! When the model 3 came out in 2017, it didn’t have WiFi enabled yet. That came with a software update in 2018. (Tesla just allowed users to use LTE for all connectivity up to that point.) They did the same thing with the selfie camera, which still isn’t fully operational 4 years later.

Still think it would make more sense to have a dedicated fixed turn signal stalk. At least you know where they are, they aren’t moving with the wheel, and it’s easier to activate than fumbling around locating a small button.

    • @rare6499
      @rare6499 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

@Jip Jackson absolutely, and one of the reasons why I’m not a fan of this migration to screen interfaces. It’s infecting all the manufacturers and being positioned as premium, reality is it’s not premium it’s cheaper from their perspective. A nice button that’s well made is way more premium. I would rather the more go to controls were left in place, like you say. It’s distracting to take your eye off the road. These screens are also a big glaring distraction and can cause eye fatigue when night driving and similar.

@@GuardianTiger maybe, but the powertrain is pretty much irrelevant to the point regards the stalk. It’s removal is ‘innovation’ for innovations sake. Not because it provides a better user experience, just that it’s different. That in itself isn’t good design.

I saw a blue Plaid being delivered at the Indy Tesla Store, while they were also delivering my red Model 3 three weeks ago. It was distracting. 😛 We were in the charging stalls next to each other and I asked the owner if I could drool on his car while they prepped mine. He said, “Sure.” 😂😂😂 Tesla has outdone themselves once again.

The turn signals/indicators seem rly inconvenient. I sometimes also like to drive with my hand on top of the steering wheel. So two aspects that I rly don't like. I believe there will be a solution for the steering wheel in the next months. Some manufactories will probably be able to change the shape into a circular steering wheel.

I have the current S and the long range S on order for a September delivery. Both my wife and I will be driving it. I am concerned about the yoke for two reasons. First, I do think the u turns and 3 point turns will be annoying and I don’t think fully autonomous driving will be available for a while. 2nd is the horn. I rarely use a horn, only if another car doesn't see me and starts going into my lane. I am so used to hitting the center of the wheel, I am worried that in the short amount of time you have to react I might instinctively hit the steering wheel and not the small horn button. I do think the yoke looks great but i would really prefer the traditional round wheel. I am not sure why they don’t give the consumer the option. I know that during the testing there were some new S models with a round wheel so it works. I also would rather see the horn in the traditional location. The other items i am sure I would get used to quickly since you use them frequently. By the way I really enjoy watching your videos.

@@dontannenbaum4734 Yea sure thing. I think the only real leanring curve would be the turn signals when you have the wheel turned halfway. Apart from that it seems great and I think people will grow to appreciate having all the controls at their fingertips. But it's a big change and will take time for people to come around.

The newly designed interior is stunning. I just don't like the new yoke steering wheel. Functions: I think it'll be annoying to turn the wheel in narrow corners like parking lot, entrance etc. I know you can use the assistant, but idc sometimes you wanna do it yourself.
Your car goes south in rainy/snowy day. Try to catch it.
And crusing, sometimes you want to put one hand on the top of the steering wheel and just relax in style. Have fun with the new one.
Also buttons. Turning signals, horrible. This ain't a Ferrari. Maybe you trigger them accidentally etc. Give me back the stocks.
Last but not least: Drive selecter. Touch, c'mon Tesla really? That stock like the Mercedes were perfect.

Beautiful car but I feel like they are unnecessarily trying to fix things that aren't broken with the steering wheel and gear selector design..

      Shift your mindset.
I don't think Tesla is not looking to "FIX" anything.
Rather, have you considered they're gradually nudging people's learned behaviors towards where the market is heading long-term (autonomous vehicles), which is an area they're considered a market leader. If you're driving an AV, you won't need a lot of the conventional functionalities we're used to.

They need to evolve, if you wait to the things broke or stop working to improvement, you will be left behind,
