I had the pleasure of being on a call with Gigi a few months ago & she is the real deal. Great coach. She is fantastic. To hear that she is teaming up with you Rebecca is wonderful news. You got yourself a phenomenal team!
Thanks for sharing that Lianne! I always love hearing from you. Glad you got to enjoy Gigi's wisdom and heart. I do have an incredible team for Be Your Own Medicine! I hope you are well. ❤
Thank you Rebecca and Gigi for posting this. I am a male who struggled with Chronic Pelvic Pain/IC/Painful Bladder Pain symptoms for three years. My symptoms started improving after I learned about Dr. Sarno's work on mindbody syndromes. I also follow Dr. Shubiner's continued work in this field and the knowledge of knowing the real causes of chronic pain has been the missing piece of the puzzle. Just like everyone, I put all my hopes in the traditional medical model of treatments, talked to different therapists, went through PT, including practicing the Wise-Anderson protocol for treating pelvic pain, practiced mindfulness, diets, supplements, daily stretching routines, and all-in-all I got to about 75% better on average. Although I was able to resume my life, the 25% that was still unresolved was still worrisome and fear-inducing when I would flare up. I just want to say that I enjoyed this particular episode, because both of you are great coaches, and I have a particular interest in pelvic pain related success stories. I agree that of all the mindbody symptoms I have, IC was the one that was most difficult for me to deal with. Thanks for constantly reinforcing the set of mingbody tools we all need to keep applying in order for us all heal!
@CP-so4hg, Have you tried drinking cranberry juice or cran-apple? It soothes the bladder. As well as a good Calcium- Magnesium supplement and Potassium are good for muscle and nerve spasms. For acute spasms, even Charlie Horses, drink Tonic Water for the Quiniine. Stops it almost instantly! Wishing you all the best health!
That's a lot to endure. I'm really sorry for all your suffering. We consider Fibromyalgia to be mind-body and many people recover from it through this approach! Dr. Howard Schubiner also says that all injuries heal and scars don't hurt. But the brain can learn, and unlearn, those neural pathways. Wishing you the best!

Unfortunately it took me many years to figure this out and I’m still healing. Thank you both for your encouragement and sharing your wisdom and insight!
I truly feel for you. The same thing happened to me. I lost my career and ability to function in the world for 13 years before finding this mind-body approach. It was a game-changer and I hope it is for you too! 💝
I have a diagnosis of hEDS on top of my fibromyalgia & CFS diagnosis and the hEDS diagnosis has been confusing me slightly as it is believed to be a genetic condition and made me doubt my ability to heal and recover but there does seem to be a link to the nervous system / mind-body connection and it’s great to hear more stories of people healing from hEDS 😊
Yes! I've worked with a number of people who were diagnosed with hEDS and have restored their sense of wellbeing through this work. This was a brilliant interview. Incredibly validating hearing from someone with a science background and the medical research you're both involved in. Thank you both so much!
Such a fantastic interview. While on my journey of understanding the power of mind/body healing, one of my biggest pieces of evidence was also the reduction and relief of symptoms after a session of emotional release. I'd cry and cry. Then I'd be struck by the awareness that I felt safe and symptom free for a good period of time. Gigi, thank you for sharing that experience. It reaffirms my experience as well. Some other evidence I gathered that proved to me my symptoms are mind/body was whenever I was/am with family or friends, my symptoms disappear. They are most evident when I'm alone. I've come so far on my healing journey with mind/body healing techniques and I'm positive I will fully recover. Thank you both for being a shining light! ❤
What wonderful awareness, evidence and progress! Emotional releases can be so cathartic and make our subconscious brain feel safer. It doesn't have to work so hard to repress our true feelings. And it sounds like your subconscious brain may feel safer with family or friends. Thanks for sharing how far you've come with your optimistic attitude! You will fully recover indeed!!

Has anyone experienced repressed memories? I thought my memory was just getting worse over time but it seems like i have years of memories i cannot recall.
Yes, I have experienced big lapses of memories. When I first came down with CFS (MBS), I could hardly remember anything. Cognitive symptoms can be a common response to stress and trauma. But in my experience good cognitive function can return through mind-body healing!
That can be so challenging but as long as there's not actual nerve damage, many people find relief through mind-body healing. I'm glad you enjoyed our conversation and hope it serves your healing!
Rebecca how do I reach you ? I had two head injuries concussion than a chiro aggressively manipulated my head that and years and years of trying to fix it disable me. I have dysautonomia (feet swell and purple hard time breathing severe pressure in my head that goes through my whole body like I weigh 2000 pounds, head doesn’t feel straight on neck, sweating chronically it’s like I live with bricks in my body and being pulled downward it’s hard to explain several other things but it’s the dysautonomia and head pressure that’s the worst. I’m so convinced it’s structural since my upper neck is misaligned on imaging but I’ve tried 39 therapists and went to 24 doctors. Can this work ??? Do you know of any others you’ve met in this journey experienced this and recovered ?
@staceypollack6526 Yes! Lots of people without pain don't have straight spines or bodies. I've seen people with major scoliosis who don't have pain! New science shows the signaling in the brain and nervous system can cause this kind of chronic pain, pressure, POTS and other symptoms. Ive been following this work for quite awhile now. Although no one has yet discussed post injury years later as to what happened to me I have managed to stop the burning in my body with it. However that was replaced with what I can only describe as severe muscle spasms and tension from my head to my toe so bad it feels like my own body will suffocate me along with severe anxiety and exactly what you described as my brain feels like aching and pressure and I have a hard time being upright too long because I get symptomatic. So my question is since TMS is always described as pain are chronic muscle spasms too ? Also why is it that everyone doing this work gets debilitating anxiety while they go through it ?
@staceypollack808 I'm so sorry for your suffering. It's great to hear that the burning has stopped, although I hear you on the muscle spasms, tension and anxiety. That's so challenging! These are all common mind-body symptoms, particularly when they rotate around the body (what John Sarno called the symptom imperative). Chronic muscle spasms can certainly be caused my repressed emotion, trauma and hyper-vigilance. If y you're interested in a systematic but gentle program to recover, I'm offering my Be Your Own Medicine live cohort in September and would love to support you! www.rebeccatolin.com/course

Also, I’m tapering off prescribed benzodiazapines and the symptoms are terrifying. Supposedly, it’s due to the GABA receptors downregulating and the excitatory glutamate is increased. This is a physical “damage” in the brain. Can it still be healed with MindBody/TMS work??
That sounds so very challenging and I'm sorry to hear about your suffering. Mind-Body/TMS work can help with anything that is not considered physical or pathological damage. There is often a mind-body response in addition to any symptoms caused by medication withdrawal. Since I"m not a doctor, I can't comment on whether benzo withdrawl causes actual, or lasting, damage. But I had a client with many TMS symptoms, who was also tapering off benzos. She made huge progress with her TMS symptoms and got medical help for her withdrawal process. So I think you can still get great benefit from your TMS symptoms through this approach and there's often some overlap. I hope this helps and send my healing thoughts to you!

Thank you so much for your testimony. I also have been diagnosed with POTS & CFS as well as Adrenal Fatigue due to my symptoms which overlap. But I also have very low blood pressure, which is physical-a blood pressure machine shows the BP so it’s not just a sensation or feeling fatigue, brain fog, etc. Can low blood pressure also be MindBody? And blood pooling in the feet (toes turn dark purple-physically).
Hi there, It's important to be evaluated by a doctor for your blood pressure and blood pooling. But know that there are "physiological" changes that accompany mind-body/TMS symptoms. For instance, with anxiety there's changes in blood flow, hormone production and nerve firing patterns. With pain, there's often tight muscles. Even with a blushing face, there's changes in capillary blood flow. These are physiological changes caused by a psychological and nervous system state. But with TMS, there's not "pathological" or structural disease (as you might see with MS or cancer). It's very common for people to improve or completely recover from POTS, CFS and adrenal fatigue through this work! I'm an example of that myself and I have other recovery stories on this channel. There's some unlisted recovery stories on this page too: www.rebeccatolin.com/success Sending healing wishes to you! 💖
