  • Angela Lawrence had a severe case of Long Covid with a debilitating mix of psychiatric and physical symptoms. The therapist and mother found herself bed bound for many months with exhaustion, POTS, brain fog, head pain and insomnia. She experienced a dramatic recovery through mind-body healing. This is one of the most incredible stories I've ever heard! You can sense Angela's joy for living, a far cry from the days where she felt barely alive.

    Wow, I've never heard a story i could relate to so much. I also had the psychiatric presentation of long-covid. The derealization/depersonalization and doom feeling, anxiety and depression were the worst of all the symptoms. Sometimes COVID sets off or reactivates what is underneath - so if you have mold, low hormones, low vitamin d, Lyme or chronic Lyme, it can contribute to the compound effect of neuroinflammation in the body

      @@carolinenielands754 I completely get it! I had those same issues and diagnoses and still recovered from 13 years of debilitating ME/CFS using this mind-body approach! The brain controls the other systems in our body so when we turn down the danger alarm signal in the brain and regulate our nervous system, our body can find balance again. Thanks for watching and I wish you the best!

      Rebecca, I’m so interested in your work. I don’t know if you’ll read this but what do you think about mitochondrial dysfunction? And thyroid dysfunction and adrenal dysfunction? Do you think all these things are corrected by mind-body practices potentially? I’ve seen so many people who seem to divide them into two camps and I’m wondering if you teach people to tackle both top down Which is mind-body and bottom up which might be some of these downstream with the things like mitochondrial dysfunction. Or do you simply focus on the mind-body connection and that seems to take care of the rest? Thank you.

    • @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach
      @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brooksbarton-ne9sm Thank you and great Q's! I was told I had mitochondrial dysfunction and many other downstream issues like Leaky Gut and Epstein-Barr but those treatments never helped me overcome 13 years of ME/CFS. I came to believe that the brain and nervous system are causing the symptoms, as well as corresponding physiological changes, due to perceived danger and learned neural pathways. In order to treat the root cause, we work with the brain and nervous system primarily. Otherwise, it's a game of Whac-O-Mole, chasing all the downstream effects! Often, I see people spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on supplements and treatments that are not proven and don't provide lasting relief. I'm so sympathetic because I was there myself! We want to support our body with nourishing food, movement, relaxation, enjoyment etc. But I've found that focusing on this mind-body method leads to deeper, more lasting healing!

      Thank you Rebecca Tolin. I wasn't going to reply, as I didn't want to deflect from Angela incredible success story.
      However as you shared the link to our interview/my story above in your reply to me....I have just done a an update for folks to read.
      Yes hard to believe I return to work 11 months ago now.
      I can remember, my first shift back in work after being off with long-Covid for 14 months that was in April 2023. It was 3hrs shift only, and I was totally exhausted!!
      It wasn't an easy journey to recovery, constantly having to regulate my nervous system and recognise great fear/emotions inside of me....would I lose my job, how would I cope financially, what would my future look like.
      I had to regulate my nervous system so that my brain wasn't living in this state of high stress fight/flight mode that long covid causes. It the uncertainty that so hard to deal with long-Covid. This is where Rebecca Tolin somatic track mediations are so welcoming and helpful.
      It took me 6 months for me to get back to full (time hours at) work, which I still think is a miracle!
      In summary (the past 11 months), I got covid again for the second time, a few month after returning to work whilst still working part time hours and trying to get back to full time hours.
      I got back to full time work, applied for higher position and got the job. My job is challenging as it doesn't just demand full time hours but it's the shift pattern eg. 13hrs shifts which are problematic as still I am experience some long-Covid symptoms.
      How was I ever going to be able to work these 13hr shifts pattern again, was it even achieveable. Most people work pattern shift are 7.5hrs which I've been able to do and maintained since returning to work. However since January 2024, I've had to work the odd 13hr shift...wow. I am still amazed at the resilience of my body, never thought this was possible, so happy.
      So many other health care professionals have not been able to return to work and my ♥ heart goes out to them. My advice do Rebecca Tolin Be your own medicine course has it packed with essential information to aid recovery.
      The month of March 2024 I've worked x2 13hr shift per week plus shorter shifts making my hours up to full time.
      If I do a 13hr, then I have to have the next day off as I am simply exhausted.
      My job is full on from the time I walk into work to the time I leave shift.
      Friends have been amazing at my long-Covid recovery, so far.
      However I have to point out here: I daily put the work in, as I understood this aids my recovery,
      I am both healed and healing. As its important for me to regulate my nervous system and check in with 'how I am feeling', plus doing the mediations and investing in looking after myself mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritual on a daily basis and during the day if required.
      This isn't something I ever understood before long-Covid diagnosis.
      Plus I undertook Rebecca Tolin course 'Be Your own medicine,' which I found was a really life line.
      I still have some long-Covid symptoms mild- moderate fatigue and insomnia. On my day off I do absolutely nothing no household chores, nothing!
      On these days, I might not ever shower, (just being honest, so you understand), level of tiredness.
      If I do stuff on my day off, or when I am on annual leave. Then I have awful insomnia TMS symptoms back that night or the fatigue will increase when I return to work. If my body could talk it would be telling me 'Jane, you pushing your engery levels hard in work, don't push me on your day off and when you on leave aswell'. Yet this is my nervous system running 🏃 scared and these symptoms are TMS, I know that. So I am not to worry, as I have the tools from Rebecca course to deal with this. There no reason, why I can't start to introduce more stuff into life.
      Recently I've been reading a book Rebecca Tolin mentions on her course called 'Fierce self compassion' by Dr Kristin Neff. This book is brilliant its helping me to slowly do more on my days off by showing myself more self compassion.
      On a personal note I have lived on high stress levels for most of my life, so it only now am I recognised the effects and the need to calm my nervous system. As long-Covid fatigue is attribute by both 'physical' activity plus 'mental' activity.
      For me and Angela doing Rebecca course certainly gave us the tools to help with long-Covid.
      Be encouraged by all these success stories there is hope at the end of the tunnel.
      You need to tap into this teaching, if you haven't already.

I have been on my own journey for the last few years with extremely similar symptoms. I too have made a lot of progress but I think you have just reminded me of an area I am stuck on. Which is letting go, stopping the resistance to symptoms, stop hating it when they ramp up. Just give in, stop fighting and accept my own experience as it’s is all from me. Now three days after watching this episode with you and Angela. Her wake up reminded me of the most beautiful perioid of my life 25 years ago - as i had a similar breakthrough that lead me to amazing realisations and spiritual connection ind life and art. It led me to an artistical careeer, but the same career and added trauma later in life drew me back into anxiety. Now, recovering from Long Covid and deblilitating illness I really enjoyed finding you, Rebecca, and suck the compassionate approach of yours, in.. This was the first video of yours that I checked out. :)
    Now, Im sitting at my desk, with my laptop. And guess what happened just a minute ago. This qote - that i myself have written (referring to my own experiences) on a sticky note, somehow suddenly totallyl unexpected popped up on my screen - I must have touched the Sticky not icon unconssiously... ?
    So I see his quite on my screen saying:
    "True wisdom is always dearly bought.
    The truth is known by its eternal light and grace. Recogninzing your truth is when love breaks through and you recognize the light in yourself and the entire universe. Learning to live is learning to dance in the world with that light!" - Helle Thun
    So, I thought I just wanted to share his with you all. Thank you Angela for sharing the process of how the walls of protection that tried to guard you up until now - just fell ! It fell through your self compassionate recovery process. This is a spiritual awakening. So beautifull that you share. This i possible for all of us. We just need to keep up shattering these rigid walls of fear.. Thank you, thank you, thank you...

      This is so beautiful! What wise words you wrote all those years ago. I can feel that they come from a state of love! Thank you for sharing this and for having the heart to see!
      If you had that awakening once, it can come again. In my experience, life is a series of moments where we are invited to wake up to our true nature again and again. I too have experienced moments of spiritual awakening. But like you, I've found that life offers continual challenges and opportunities for forgetting and remembering. Your quote reminds me of this one from Rumi:
      “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

    Hey Rebecca! Thanks for the great content. Question regarding PEM. Why do you think there is a delay in symptoms sometimes days after exercise? Thanks!

    • @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach
      @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TORZITRON1
      My pleasure! We see delayed symptoms, such as PEM, coming from a conditioned response in the brain. The subconscious brain starts linking an activity with danger, even when it's safe! Then it generates symptoms some hours or days afterwards. The fact that we don't get symptoms during the exercise is a sign of neuroplastic, or mind-body, symptoms. If you have a broken ankle, your brain will warn you of tissue damage right away! I've seen many, many people recover from PEM through this approach, including myself. Hope this helps you!

    Amazing recovery story. Its interesting how long covid is overcome with this mind body work. I have a question is the virus what causes the symptoms or the brains fear of Covid along with the whole lockdown shock and trauma along with personal stress? I am interested to know? • @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach
      @rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @samanthahart2054
      Thanks for your comment! Great question. The human body can overcome viruses. But when there's a high level of fear, stress, trauma and/or anxiety, it suppresses our immune function. This also triggers the danger alarm in our brain and our brain can learn these neural pathways. So while the virus is a stressor to the body, we believe it's the compilation of stressors (particularly emotional ones) that causes the cascade of chronic mind-body symptoms. I hope this helps!

But in a nutshell: I started cold plunging, doing daily gentle breath work, journalling, yoga nidra, and exposure to movement and activity (very gentle increases).
