      I think they meant 4th GENERATION. Probably an issue with translating.
      EDIT: I know the F22 is a FIFTH GENERATION fighter, people! I NEVER SAID IT WAS A 4th GENERATION plane. I was just saying the messed up translation was most likely they meant to say "generation" and not "century". They still would have been wrong, but not nearly as much.

    I remember seeing a B-2 do a low level pass over an airfield at an air show in Dayton, Ohio. It flew over at 300ft and I’ll never forget how impressive the sound was, not because it was loud, but because it was so quiet. It sounded about as loud as a commercial airliner at 35,000ft. Just a low whispering rumble. That’s the day I understood that stealth wasn’t just radar signature.

      B-2s I heard were not "quiet." I'm assuming it was at idle or just above idle. Have you ever heard an F-22 or F-35 in person? They're just as loud as any other fighter if not louder.... the 35 I saw was definitely louder than any F-16( 2004) I've ever heard at Luke AFB or F-18s( 2011) coming into land at the naval base on Coronado island. @Liquid Sun well, there's 2 reasons for that. The first is that Russia is big enough that they can make their own rules, and NK is so small and poor they need help from their enemies just to not starve. The second reason is that Russia is big enough that it needs to be on trading terms with half the world at least. Nuking someone, even by accident, is a really good way to make all imports about 300% more expensive, if not outright illegal. That sort of thing would be disastrous to any economy, never mind one as top heavy as Russia's.

When the F-117 came out everyone thought it was new but I knew guys that had worked on it like 15 years before that. Or the SR71 for that matter, I was in when they retired it. I had the same convo you did with a guy that worked for either MD or General Dynamics. I remember when I learned about the SR-71 Blackbird. First I got a shock that there was an aircraft with such parameters, and then I got an even bigger shock that this aircraft was from the early 1960s. The public in my country only learned about this aircraft in 1982, when they very often flew right near the national border provoking military reactions. However, they never decided to fire on the plane.

      @@jaden2790 I see that you don't know what you are writing about and are trying to make fun of me. First educate yourself on the subject and only interject your comments. No aircraft is undetectable to radar. Only the aircraft can be made more difficult to detect. The SR-71 has some elements to reduce radar reflection, but it is not usually classified as a stealth aircraft, and if one so qualifies it, it falls into the first generation of stealth. In the 1970s Soviet radar systems were able to detect it , often immediately after takeoff from West German territory. The Americans knew this would be the case already when designing the aircraft, so, the SR-71 was very fast and flew high. It did not have to hide from radars, because the Warsaw Pact did not have the means capable of shooting down this aircraft, despite this, efforts were made not to violate the borders of the Eastern Bloc. Every flight of this aircraft was a manifestation of the enormous technological advantage between the east and the west.
      From the information I remember, no plane was ever shot down, but many times planes were sent to intercept the SR-71. At that time, the American aircraft simply accelerated and lost the chase. If you are interested in this topic, I recommend the book "Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet" by Brian Shul. On the Internet you can also find memoirs of Polish servicemen who regularly came into contact with this machine.
      The SR-71 is a great machine. You don't need to additionally add magical qualities to it, as the Russians do with their crap equipment, pretending that they are not at all hopeful about the technological gap with the West.
      Of course, not all Russian equipment is bad. They have good ground radars, and good air defense.

    I am a plane freak. The look on their faces, I had the same shocked look. OMG! The first time I saw a B-2, I was at work. It left Nellis AFB, and all you could hear is this booming sound. I ran outside, because I wasn't missing whatever plane it was. I caught it just in time, right before it leveled out and disappeared. That is a freakin beast! Once it was level, you couldn't see it, but you could still hear it. That was my favorite plane to see in my lifetime... next to a 747. That F-22 is badass. Just the pedal turn alone gave me chills. F-35 is certainly a good aircraft, but not for the amount they went over on the budget, especially considering its only a single engine fighter. That was a mistake. The STOVL version for the Marines is particularly dumb. Having worked on Harriers in the past, it's the most maintenance hours per flight hour bird in the entire Navy/Marine Corps fleet. That's the F-35B's future. The F-22 is a stud. It's so good and expensive, they cut down their orginal production of 750 down to 187. Now there are 168. We'd never sell this fighter, because it's simply the best air to air beast ever created. Kind of a waste considering there's no other country on the planet that we're going to get in an air battle with. If we did, whatever country it would be would not last long. AND all F35's carry more computing power than any other jet, except AWACS. With Tech Refresh 3/Block 4 upgrades the F35 will have as much computing power as ANY AWACS. Put 3 of F35's in a 60 mi arc and they can provide almost complete data on ground and air assets all with being the RCS of the big marbles of a jacks set. Okay the F22 has a smaller RCS the size of a worker honey bee, but the F35 is the only jet out there that can go BVR with the F22 especially when T3/BLK4 gets finished. A F35 would never go close to a F22 because nothing outmaneuvers the F22, but BVR once that AN/APG 85 is in the nose, the F35 and it's computer would see the F22 before the F22 even with the AN/APG83 upgrade sees the F35. The B21 will rival the F35 for computing power or a bit more. I liked how one of the former NK guys said NK was so against stealth. I can see why.

    They are all used for different things. The F22 can beat almost every fighter in the world with no problem because it's the USA best air superiority fighter. The F35 is still a 5th generation fighter that is a multirole airplane that is meant for reconnaissance and relaying information to other bases and units about enemy strength, defenses, etc. And the B2 is currently worlds greatest stealth long range strategic bomber but it is being planned on to be replaced relatively soon.

    • @jessiejanson1528
      @jessiejanson1528 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      F35 is basically information as warfare. it can mark a target while remaining in stealth and have a boat 100 miles away launch a missile at the target the F35 is marking, same for a sub. It can also mark multiple targets for many other craft at the same time and can make use of the AI wingman, a f-16 etc with a AI pilot that follows off its wing which the F35 can direct to engage other aircraft. It could for instance send 5 of them to harass a target so its not under any type of threat. The F35 also has an amazing tracking system to track a target and never lose it, the mixed reality headset allows the pilot to see through his own aircraft so he can see exactly where the enemy aircraft is.
      To reduce the amount of heat the craft gives off in flight, its own fuel is used as a heatsink. While its not proven there is a large amount of circumstantial evidence that supports a 4th version of the F35 which houses a laser weapon. The drive system behind the pilots seat which normally powers the fan is instead used to power the laser, the other version of the craft uses that location to store extra fuel, but with it gone it can use the fuel lines to cool the laser during and after firing as its already designed to be a heatsink. Heat was one of the main issues with using a high powered laser.
      Over the last 15 years or so the govt has put out little bits of information about a laser system for aircraft, originally tested in a private jet (around 12 seats) and more recently loaded into a helicopter for tests in the field. Since then there hasnt been any information about the system. However if you consider that the F35 can track and target and not lose it, it would be perfect for controlling the aim of such a laser system and because light can be aimed directly at a target, it can fire at any range provided the curve of the earth isnt in the way. Because of this, no aircraft would actually be capable of getting near the F35 if they could even find it, anything that approached could be destroyed from long range, same for any missiles launched at it. With its stealth it could mark a target, destroy it and leave before anyone knew it was there. Flying high enough up and its line of sight over the horizon is far greater. The only draw back with laser systems is that anything in the air will take energy from the laser, so it would need clear skys or high altitudes. regardless that just means it would need to fire on a given target longer as it would take a second or two of hitting the same spot to burn through it. But then that is a question of the type of armor a aircraft has and how weak it is to such an attack. its not something that would cut a craft in half, but more then capable of taking a craft out before it got in range. Seems to be something the USA used to brag about, but once the system was ready for use, it became more of an open secret.

    • @CimmerianAssassin
      @CimmerianAssassin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ghostly One that is the point of them. But it is by no means weak in a dogfight. But it would have already failed in its objective if that was the case since its purpose is to relay information to other units to either intercept or plan engagements or to gauge defenses

    • @jessiejanson1528
      @jessiejanson1528 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Ghostly One Yes, The F35 never needs to be in a dogfight, its design to take out the enemy before they ever get near it.

    • @CimmerianAssassin
      @CimmerianAssassin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Liquid Sun I'm not saying that dogfights should be the norm, but straight air to air combat or on a neutral air space, air superiority capability does matter. And during a big war, the Russians hypersonic missile arsenals won't nearly be as helpful in an offensive gesture, more of a defensive one. The F35s role is to scout out enemy positioning, unit numbers, infrastructure, etc before even being detected anyway and relay that information to allied units in order to be engaged or taken care of. Russian and Chinese defenses don't matter if they get found out first anyway. The United States does lag behind those countries in that area, but when it comes to battlefield information and logistical analysis, the United States is still king

    • @CimmerianAssassin
      @CimmerianAssassin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Liquid Sun and until they can consistently detect our aircraft it doesn't honestly matter just yet. Though being surrounded by multiple countries that have F35s, both China and Russia would be countered in an offensive war. But those missiles do make it much more difficult to push into their territory as well

      @Jungkook Steiner No one but the USA can move that many troops and that amount of equipment in that amount of time. Not Russia, not China. It's never been done before in history and the results surprised everyone. They had the 4th largest army in the world and while the US did bring alot of toys to the fight, we'd only brought a fraction of our entire military. Even US military experts were expecting far higher American losses and they didn't expect the war to end so soon. I talked to a Air Force General just prior and he was all GO AMERICA!!! Even he wasn't that optimistic. He did think the air force we could win the war with just the air force. He was half right. We can pound them into dust from the air but a F35 or a B2 bomber has never taken a inch of ground and never will. At some point to you have to send in troops and armor. The Battle of 73 Easting was a example of that. The dust storm prevented any aircraft from being in the area.

    • @Locke99GS
      @Locke99GS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The interesting thing about Operation Desert Storm, in my opinion, was how accidentally one-sided the whole war was. Even though the outcome should have been expected, the actual (and accidental) over execution by the US had to be embarrassing for Saddam at the time.
      We only deployed that much power to the region because that is what we thought we needed to be victorious. Of course our deployment there could have been far greater if we thought it was needed. Turns out we over greatly estimated their defenses, and over-committed ourselves to cope with their perceived defenses, even though it was still only a fraction of the US ability to fight at the time.
