Ok so I made these today and at first it was not puffing up (I oiled my pan too much). I then realized if you only press down on the sides, it will begin to puff up. Think of it as you sealing the sides, the trapped air will then cause it to puff up. I hope that helps for those of you that had that issue :)
I am a Canadian Chinese mom who tried this recipe today with my 9 yr old daughter and she loved it. Ours didn't balloon up but it was delicious none the less. And entirely cooked through. We needed to add a little more water to our batter and we did adjust the recipe a little because we used our own homemade flavored butter but everything else remained the same. Thank you for sharing! Made these tonight, came out well. Again not as puffy but I found that if I flipped it pretty early it puffed better and I also made sure I kept pressing it down and that seemed to help with the puffing up. I used 120g of flour and 200ml water. Will definitely be making these again next time I make a curry

I think the ingredients issue comes solely down to it being a volume measurement for the flour, because "1 cup" to another could wildly vary in the amount of flour used, depending on how compacted it is in the scoop.
Turn up the heat of your pan to medium or even medium high so the air in the pocket expands. Also make sure to only put in a ladle or two of the mixture. No more than that and spread it thin like a giant moon

EXCELLENT VID short simple straight to point and no BS Very rare to find on youtube these days BTW : THIS IS NOT PARATHA THIS IS CHILA/PANCAKE/FRITTER at max because this is steamed on inside.
The flavor was superb, and of course the recipe was very easy with simple ingredients, and I love that it wasn't for a huge bunch of servings. But I just couldn't QUITE get that balloon-y goodness. I tried thinning out my batter and tweaking the flame (using a cast-iron skillet), but the best ones were only half-poofed. The recipe was interesting but I'd have liked some trouble-shooting or extra tips (like flour by weight, cooking without tawa, etc...)

Absolutely fantastic I don't think any such recipe has been posted. Really superb
Thank you so much
I read on youtube somewhere - each time you turn it over, use spatula to gently press only the outer edges, and it will puff up. Hope this helps. from Oz

short simple straight to point and no BS
Very rare to find on youtube these days
BTW : THIS IS NOT PARATHA THIS IS CHILA/PANCAKE/FRITTER at max because this is steamed on inside.
Thank you
Oh My goodness this Roti looks delicious I will try the recipe
The flavor was superb, and of course the recipe was very easy with simple ingredients, and I love that it wasn't for a huge bunch of servings. But I just couldn't QUITE get that balloon-y goodness. I tried thinning out my batter and tweaking the flame (using a cast-iron skillet), but the best ones were only half-poofed. The recipe was interesting but I'd have liked some trouble-shooting or extra tips (like flour by weight, cooking without tawa, etc...)
Same here. Please can you tell us what are the tips to get poofed paratha.
thank you so much for watching .i am so glad you liked it.poofed paratha is easily possible.please maintain medium heat throughout and turn over few times until the moisture absorb.please try again.even i failed on my first attempt ,now i make this every sunday
@@LifeNMore Hi there. I am from Germany. Is All Purpose Flour the same as self-raising flour? Does it contain any raising agents like baking soda our baking powder? I had the same problem. Perfect taste - although I used only half a teaspoon of chili flakes for our German tastebuds - but it didn't get puffy at all. Will try again.
Where can you buy a pan like that?
@@lotharjuli2226 hi self raising flour is completely different it contains raising agent suitable for cakes and biscuits. I used all purpose flour or plain flour. Please try again on a medium heat with bit more patience it will come up exactly like in the video . Thank you so much for watching from germany . Looking forward for a holiday there :)
