I tried it today for my breakfast and I can't tell you how much I LOVED it ❤ quick and easy to the point that I had to make it twice. First try was 2 pieces I got from 1 flour cup then I added 1 more cup for 2 more breads. Lovely lovely simple recipe thank u tons ❤
I just tried these. First ones didn't poof & were doughy, so I added a little more water (about 2 Tb) and remembered to SPREAD out the batter on the pan. I got some poof this time & they were better. Sunflower oil smoked in my pan, so I switched to Earth Balance, which did not smoke but is salty, so next time will reduce the salt. I used 1 3/4 cups flour & about 1 2/3 cups water. I think the batter has to be thin, and the constant flipping is so they don't burn, IMO.
Kitty, mine smoked too, but I used Olive oil and you're not supposed to use that on high heat. Will buy some grapeseed oil, which is good for high heat. Mine didn't puff at all either and looked a little doughy as well. I hope she responds when I asked her how much batter you put in the pan. She is used to this so she probably just eyeballs it. I need precise because I've never made these. However I have made flour tortillas and they puffed up and were really easy to make.
@@mackiceicukice I just made them 2 days ago, BUT I used flour that expired in 2015 I think. What is there to go bad? I made about 7, also no green onions here so I added some dried basil instead. Mine never puffed up either, never separated one side from the other. I added some baking powder to the batter after the first 3 of them. They didn't get crispy, maybe sort of chewy, like they maybe didn't get cooked all the way through. I was hungry and ate them anyway. I saved the leftovers in the fridge and still have one left. Reheating in my toaster oven seemed fine. Mine were soft and flexible, but I think they were supposed to be lighter. Did you cook them on medium? Maybe yours were too hot? I DID need to oil the pan well before I put the batter in the pan though.
These look exactly like the green onion pancakes I used to get when I lived in San Francisco in the 90s from the Chinese restaurant down the street. They were my favorite item other than their potstickers, veggies in brown sauce and beef broccoli. Thanks for sharing! 🫶
These are interesting and delicious. I didn’t have green onion so I threw in a small handful of dehydrated chives. I made 6 of them. I finally got it right on the final one. You have to do just like the video, spread it very thin - I could see my spatula through it. Then continually turn it. Before, I was leaving them 20-30 seconds before flipping them. Also, medium low was too low with my electric stove. They never really browned. The final one was where I turned the heat up more. And it seems to be the only one that really got done. It was also the only one that started creating air bubbles.
It appears more soft and pliable than roti or naan, and more delicate than a tortilla. I love naan, it’s my favorite, and tortillas made fresh. This looks like a great idea and I’m going to try it!
I was just thinking that this looks like a much easier way to make tortillas, or a bread similar enough to tortillas without the kneeling and rolling out. I have serious back problems that keep me from standing for very long in the kitchen and this recipe would make homemade tortillas something I could make again. You really can’t beat homemade for burritos, soft tacos and quesadillas!❤❤

Best done with 3 pans. One for the first cooks on either side. Second and third to puff. Most people will want at least three, so a family of five is fifteen pieces. Awesome recipe, just be organized. Just did it with a braised lamb curry and let me tell you, so good.
The best and simplest flatbread recipe I've yet seen. I'll probably use two pans, one on a medium for the initial cooking and the second on hot for the finishing, so I can set up a production line. I shall try these with a chilli con veggy this week, and report back.

In Western Canada - Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants all serve these as Green Onion Cakes - usually served with soy sauce, chili paste and/or hoisin. Delicious.
PERFECTO. As gluten free...I would love to achieve this with my substitute flour. Rice etc. Going to give it a go. Perhaps more gum and maybe psyllium husk added. PS. the technique of beating isn't to get the air out, it is to encourage more of the flat bread surface to contact the pan, for browning.
I think the technique of “beating” is to encourage the air in a bubble to spread out to create greater separation between two layers. This same technique is used when making Indian roti or chapattis.
@@marcopolo9146 ThankYOU I am always learning! 😁 I do do this when making tortillas. They of course don't rise like this. But I find beating them encourages prettier browning opportunities. : )

Looks yummy and easy to make. I don't know if that bread is South Korean, but I lived in South Korea and that type of consistency reminds me of a South Korean pancake I had one time, one of the best things I ate when in South Korea is a Korean pancake after a hike down from the mountain. I learned that day, do not hike alone, as I should have been taught as a child better. Luckily nothing physically bad happened to me and then coming down the mountain that day, after crossing the bridge like thing to the public area, there was a restaurant. I asked what do they recommend and the waitress brought me a South Korean pancake which had green onion and pieces of seafood and it was warm, if I remember correctly, and it was really good. I have been wanting to make once since and hopefully I will someday. Do you have a video of South Korea pancake making? NS
Wheras this recipe works perfectly, just add yeast to the dough to make it even fluffier and tastier. Also: cover with a lid for a minute after pouring the dough in to ensure it cooks evenly and through :o) I found that sometimes, even though it looks cooked, it still is raw in the middle.

Flour is truly universal
Great feedback, thanks for sharing! 👍
Sweet
Kitty, mine smoked too, but I used Olive oil and you're not supposed to use that on high heat. Will buy some grapeseed oil, which is good for high heat. Mine didn't puff at all either and looked a little doughy as well. I hope she responds when I asked her how much batter you put in the pan. She is used to this so she probably just eyeballs it. I need precise because I've never made these. However I have made flour tortillas and they puffed up and were really easy to make.
This recipe is wrong
@monayasmeen5319 I agree. If you don't follow the recipe exactly, you can't get upset if it doesn't turn out well lol
Finally something easy and fast that doesn't need rolling out and rising. Thank you
Exactly! I will try this recipe.
yes something that i could do everyday
Tried twice..both times they came out awful.Never puffed and they were CRISPY. Hope yours come out nice.
Also tried a few times and only a couple puffed up but when they cooled they aren’t puffed up anymore. A little too gummy.
What kind of pan did you use?
@@redfullmoon just a small non stick skillet.
Good tips, thanks!
Leave the mixture to rest before cooking.
Was it self rising flour you used?

It appears more soft and pliable than roti or naan, and more delicate than a tortilla. I love naan, it’s my favorite, and tortillas made fresh. This looks like a great idea and I’m going to try it!

Best done with 3 pans. One for the first cooks on either side. Second and third to puff. Most people will want at least three, so a family of five is fifteen pieces. Awesome recipe, just be organized. Just did it with a braised lamb curry and let me tell you, so good.
No yeast, no kneading... Perfect! I'll definitely try.

I tried this recipe, using like a tbsp of spring onion not green onion cos I didn't have much, but it was still pretty good! And I used a blender instead of mixing everything manually. It turned out well but had more of a pancake consistency than flatbread. It would taste so good with curry or some other dipping sauce tho.

Mines did the same thing… and this video never mentions adding soda
It looks like she added baking powder (not soda, if you add soda, you also need to add acid to puff it, like yogurt)

Please let us know how the substitute flour does.
I think the technique of “beating” is to encourage the air in a bubble to spread out to create greater separation between two layers. This same technique is used when making Indian roti or chapattis.
