  • In this video I will be talking about the common reasons as to why your wrists may be "flipping" at impact. I will also be talking about a great exercise you can do to help train yourself out of this issue to help increase distance and improve overall ball striking.

    That was a great visual of “getting the handle as far away from your body” after impact. Very easy swing thought

    I've watched way too many golf tutorial youtube videos and decided to abstain from watching them because each different instructor would teach it differently and it would screw up my swing. My golf video abstinence didn't last long, JKM's video's bought me back and they have been fantastic. Thank you.

      Only your own video matters. I use a swing analysing app and now I'm comfortable with setup and shot shaping. What you "feel" you are doing against actual, can be very different...and then being able to change it is the next challenge...

    You are a natural teacher, Jonathan! Keeping things simple and practical is what many instructors miss when they get overly technical. Let's face it....the majority of golfers need to hear straightforward, easy-to-implement tips to improve their games. I am a new subscriber after seeing one video and look forward to more great stuff from you! Thank you!

    First video of yours Ive watched and I have to say I really appreciate your teaching style and overall step by step instruction. Im a 2 hdc and have essentially taught myself to swing and play from about the age of 10 without lessons. Therefore i know my own swing very well, essentially whatbut feels like and what i want it to feel like, not so much what im doing if i were to watch video of myself. So I cannot help with swing advice much for friends. 98% of golf instructors at some point in the lesson lose me or they use way too many gimmicks, "tools" to teach and it becomes very convoluted and difficult for me to follow or understand not long into it. I was checking out a few videos to help a friend with his habit of flipping and yours was by far the most straight forward and helpful. The average golfer needs way more instructors like you.

I just haven't been able to break it. Thanks for the tips... also give my silly channel a look and roast my swing. Cheers!

    Johnathan, love your videos but a little confused. In your video about release, you talk about the club head accelerating past the hands and in this video it looks like the opposite is happening. Is it just a way of demonstrating how to correct the flip? Thanks.

  • @ChrisK-gs6fh

    Thank you for both the how and why! One question is do you apply this same concept to a driver? More specifically the idea of getting the butt of the club out and away from the body resulting in shaft lean? I understand with the driver we aren’t hitting down but nonetheless does a similar concept apply?

    I've been using the strategies you're talking about with half swings. Can't tell you how many hours I've spent doing this. But when I take full swings on the course...it all goes out the window and I have a slight flip with elbows too far apart. These half swing drills just won't translate to full swing. For me anyway.

      Hey Humpy! I've been in a similar place. I found a podcast series that really helped: Golf Science Lab "Why your Golf Technique Change Doesn't Stick" (parts 1 2 and 3)
      It's available on Spotify amongst other places.
      In short: You want to create an environment where you're challenging yourself to implement the swing change on the course. This will mean you play a round where you're only allowed to do half-swings if you can only do the movement in half-swings right now.
      Score yourself not on how many shots it takes you to finish but on how many shots you made with the correct technique.
      Ask your playing partner to provide feedback (STRICTLY ON WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO CHANGE).

      @Blue_Dun ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cameronmciver7588 thanks for the great idea! I don't have Spotify and couldn't find it on their TH-cam channel, but the on course scoring of the correct move rather than actual score sounds worth a try

    Let’s say I have proper shaft lean and everything else for that matter is pretty good. Does the release happen after the ball is struck or is it gradual throughout the downswing? The reason why I ask is if I exaggerate the shaft lean is the release compromised?
    Great video by the way.

    • @TML34

      I use the drill to feel a more bowed lead wrist, that’s it. The release is after impact, but I don’t worry too much about that until I make a full swing.

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically the club face will gradually close in the downswing up to impact until the club face gets square and will continue to close through impact

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you lean the shaft forward without doing anything with the wrists it would open the club face more

    Timing is the only difference between a flip and a release, IMO. A flip is what happens when there isn't proper torso turn.

  • @seanm3226

    If you stop or limit your upper body rotation, you WILL flip the club.

      Not necessarily but you are correct that if the body stops turning to a certain point then the arms will need to take over more

    I have generally liked your videos but this one, I feel it a bit circumspect. Emphasising distance over accuracy, is a bit dangerous. Also, you should have explained how it will be different for Drivers..

      this is was going over a specific issue. Alot of players struggle to hit the ball far enough to play the courses they are playing effectively and this is a common issue that I am seeing. This movement is very crucial in a players ability to create speed and often players have the wrong idea of how to close the club face that greatly reduces their chances of ever hitting it far enough. Many players struggle with their distance to the point where they cannot play their golf course effectively even if they get good contact and hit the ball fairly straight
