    Hey, loving your videos, I have a treadmill that had a Hyundai N50 drive running it, now I have a powerflex 525 as the N50 popped, I am leaning towards running an external start/stop and Pot up to control board but was curious if the existing serial cable could run the 525 off the factory treadmill controls

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow Kurt, I don't have a clue but would love to see your conversion. I would guess it is some type of serial protocol coming from the keypad. You might be able to use some packet sniffer to figure it out.

    I’ve been fighting a 523. Did plenty of reading, figured I was doing a simple 2 wire for start/stop. Set the parameters I needed including t062, but I’m confused by the use of t063 in your video. That parameter is used for terminal 3, is it not? To truly use the 523 as start/stop, will it not work unless it’s expecting a three wire?

  • @agustinguzman6375
    @agustinguzman6375 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yeah, it would help A LOT if you could also add the diagram on how you wired the pushbuttons to the 525.

  • @liftedranger
    @liftedranger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Tim. Is there away to use the I/O on the drive to turn a light on if it faults? The relay terminals could be used to tell you when it is running vs stopped. But I'm not sure about being faulted. Also along that line could you wire a reset button if faulted?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Relay 1 switches off when you have a fault. You would need to add an external relay to reverse the logic but it should do the trick. Also Relay 2 is Normally Closed so you could configure it for Ready/Fault and you could do it without the external relay.

    Hi Tim, Here's a question for you. Using a Powerflex VFD configured as a 2 wire setup with both forward and reverse hooked up. Let's say you also assigned terminal position 6 to dc injection braking and have that on a switch. What would happen if you have the forward switch closed and the vfd is driving the motor and then you close the switch on pin 6 without turning off the forward switch. Will the vfd override the forward command if the switch is still closed and the signal is still being sent? Is the answer different if the switch for pin 6 is actuated momentarily or held? Will it resume forward as soon as the pin 6 signal goes away?
    Putting a new vfd on a mill and considering tying the spindle brake switch into the vfd as a dc injection stop method whereas just turning turning off the forward/reverse switches will coast to a stop. I suppose worst case if the unit doesn't play nicely then I could have the spindle brake switch drive a contactor which breaks the forward/reverse switch signals AND triggers input 6 for dc braking.

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure the DC braking would only be active during deceleration even with pin 6 so the forward would override it but you better ask Rockwell Automation to be sure.

    • @EVLS10
      @EVLS10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimWilborne That makes sense. Guess I'll probably do a contactor to be safe. Reaching them as a diy guy is proving to be pretty difficult. You cannot even chat with them if you don't have a special account which is a little disappointing.

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have 2 powerflex 400 in an air handling unit... If I just run one vfd, the other motor is freely rotating because of the air flow and when the second vfd from zero, it's getting trip... Is there any parameter to start the vfd from the frequency which it's freely rotating???

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I'm following you correctly, the bigger issue is the fan is rotating backwards when you go to start it. It requires much more load to reverse the motor than to simply start it. I think I would reach out to Rockwell Automation on this one but I suspect you need to increase the acceleration time.
