      Everyone is too stupid for carb setup, its not really a science more trial and adjust. Sequential EFI with lambda control takes alot of the guesswork out of the equation. Plus computer people get to talk about waveforms, duty cycles and use computers to play withh graphs :)

    • @Sevalecan
      @Sevalecan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutomotiveAddiction "its not really a science more trial and adjust." -- Common misconception here. Science is not modeling, modeling is the result of science that helps you try to predict things, but has limitations in virtually every application. Due to differences engine to engine however, even the EFI is using feedback so you can tune. Not every engine responds the same way to the same inputs. It's really just the same process, different set of devices and tools for configuring it.
      In fact, this is what science is precisely. The process is: Question -> Hypothesis -> Experiment -> Analysis -> Observation -> Repeat. So, your hypothesis might be that your engine is running lean, so you change jet sizes, you test it again and see if the issue has been corrected, etc, etc. Absolutely, that's science.
      How to do that for EFI? Well, you're going to adjust code which will adjust your PWM duty cycle on the injectors, which will adjust your mixture instead. But since the input might not exactly produce a modeled/predicted air to fuel ratio, you read from an O2 sensor to determine what the mixture actually is, and then correct from there.
      Some EFI systems will auto-tune for you, but they still use the same process, just less intervention.
      Edit, P.S.: On MotorTrend there's a show called Engine Masters, they try things and then dyno test engines. They recently did an episode that involved a lot of carburetor tuning, and they went into detail on how they were adjusting the carb, changing jets, changing the secondary opening point, etc. You're really just adjusting the same parameters, but with physical hardware instead of software.

    • @AutomotiveAddiction
      @AutomotiveAddiction 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sevalecan Theres quite alot wrong in what you've said there TBH... Carbs are open loop, Lambda controlled EFI is closed loop control system that has LTFT and STFT (long and short term fuel trims) Carbs have very little adjustment and tuning potential for so many reasons... not to mention it depends on how many 'barrels' to cylinders ratio lol... its not sequential injection... its inefficient and really not so much a science as being hit on the head with an apple.

I'll likely be putting in a 5.3 LS to replace the 4.0L I6 in my Jeep Comanche. Don't need big power, 350-400 is enough when the truck weighs just shy of 3,000lbs. Yank out all the horrible vacuum lines and get a simple harness from Holley. 80's EFI wasn't great.

      @@Joebauers2505 more power than fuel injected? That doesn't make any sense.
      Any carb uses some sort of protrusion into the flow path to atomize the fuel(venturi). Fuel injected has no protrusion because its sprayed under pressure and can be placed anywhere in the inlet. Not only that but carbs are big and can soak up heat where they have to be mounted.

    An example of why you use the correct weight oil: One of the farms near me bought a brand new '16 Silverado 1500 with the Ecotec3 5.3 in it (direct injection, variable valve timing, etc). That engine calls for like 0w40 or 5w40 oil (forget which, exactly). They keep drums of 15w40 in the shop for tractors and big trucks. The guy who ran the shop told them to get the right weight oil for it, they ordered him to just use 15w40 oil. Cooked the engine by 12k miles, and GM wouldn't cover it under warranty. The truck wasn't even a year old.

    Torque to Yield or Torque angle yield (further called TAY) bolts can be smaller for the same application because as it was told to me, "Some Japanese Math Wiz went to Honda and saw the really big bolts they use to use on cars and said, I can do that with a bolt half that size and it hold with more force." The reason that happens is that when you Torque a bolt just right and to the exact point where it starts to stretch it holds way more force than it would normally and is the strongest it will ever be. This is also why when you are working on your vehicle it's important to know if a bolt is TAY because you MUST (I can't emphasise this enough) make sure to replace any TAY bolts because the old bolts are stretched and will snap and break and cause serious damage or ( in cases such as suspension bolts) kill you.

    Also, with EFI/Holley, you can time your injectors to somewhat tune the smell of unburnt fuel out.

    As a person who works in an engine machine shop, I see so many experts doing stuff that makes me cringe. I was a bit nervous about this video but to my surprise this is in my opinion the right way to assemble a motor.
    Great parts, and obviously someone that knows what they are doing assembling it. Looking forward to the next video.

      FLCivic I’ve already forgot what they used for assembly line but we’ll see. Maybe they will prime it with a pressure primer

    I had to look up what was meant by E85. I don't think you can even get that in the UK. I certainly have never seen it for sale at any petrol station.

    Jay got some deep deep pockets for custom PCs and custom classic cars.🤔😩
    I wish I had his pockets to more or less do the same. Hahaha!!🤣😂

      I'm just saying, dudes got a 67 Camaro... in restored condition, thats like a 60,000 dollar car. Plus hes putting a 20-25 thousand dollar motor in it, he's either KILLING IT with ad revenues or the patreon guys are getting screwed.
      While I find his content entertaining on occasion, I suspect he is way overpaid.

    So does the extra cylinder just get capped off if you're only using 7 pistons? Or does it just get left open but with no injection?

    I'm not an engine person or know much about America's fuel at petrol stations. But is their E when it comes to fuel the same as our Ron in the UK? Cos we have 95 and 99 as standard fuels at the pumps

    You should do a custom build based on this car. Like you ZL1 one raffled. Think old school plain black case and threadripper guts.
