  • See part 1 here: • 1982 Plymouth Reliant ...
    A few weeks ago, I purchased this fairly clean 1982 Plymouth Reliant almost sight-unseen for $300 not running. It came to me with shredded tires and no spark. Turns out that "no spark" condition was something a little bit more serious. Watch and find out!
    In this video, I get the car running long enough to test the transmission. But can it be driven?

    Beautiful K car ! I am soo glad there's people out there still holding on to these cars . I myself own a oldie a 81 Oldsmobile Delta 88 which I love driving it . The K cars have a special spot in my heart , I got my drivers license in a 85 Plymouth Reliant which belonged to my driving instructor .

      Nope, this car has been gone for months. It needed work and I didn't have time, and nobody would pay anything for it so I would up giving it away

    Vacuum leak due to the disconnected hose.push it over the carb stud.

      I'm aware, it will not go over the carb stud because the hose is not large enough, but it will not leak because it is connected to a thermoswitch which does not activate until the engine is up to operating temperature. It actuates a vacuum motor in the airbox which pulls air over the exhaust manifold to lower the air density.

    Coolant leak is one of the bolts to the motor mount bracket. just have to put sealant on the threads...

    • @AiOinc1
      @AiOinc1  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually part of the AC compressor bracket, not the motor mount, and the bolt actually won't thread in at all.

      @@AiOinc1 Non AC cars the bracket for the air conditioner isn't even there so on mine it's just a bolt actually some of them it's a stud you put a nut on. Half the time I do a timing built on these engines that thing leaks. Now I just do sealant on the bolt everytime...

      @@thefinalroman We put teflon tape on it before threading it in. Doesn't seem to leak yet. The dogbone was misaligned behind the bracket so it didn't thread into anything.

    Odd mix of technology on these cars...carbed but has an ECM and an in-tank fuel pump? Definitely a transition period for auto technology.

      Huh? No, no in-tank fuel pump. It's a mechanical fuel pump driven from an auxiliary shaft on the engine. The carburetor is a Holley 6520 (I think) which is computer controlled by an ECM via the single non-heated oxygen sensor. The ECM also controls ignition timing to a much greater degree than fuel mixture.

      It was probably an offshoot of the lean burn system that Chrysler used in their cars from the 70s; also, most manufacturers were trying to find ways to increase fuel economy and control emissions so naturally having sensors and computer technology would be the way to go.

      As much as I love my Chrysler products, those carburetors were shit; the one on my dad’s Reliant went out and the replacement he got was problematic too. I almost got it when I was close to driving age but he sold it before I got my license; thankfully I found an identical one that I still have, going on 25 years, with a new carburetor and engine too.
