I beleive the same thing! correct me if im wrong, but i heard that there wasnt any spellcard system in the pc-98 era so the battles were more brutal (like when shinki destroyed the whole city of makai)... You dont have the comedy and the brutality in the windows cannon sadly

The last one was explained in a Manga called Forbidden Scrollery, I think it was Marisa that told Kosuzu about it.

But indeed, if they ate all the people in the human village, there will be no one to fear them and they'd disappear. Yukari simply wants everything to be balanced and as the gatekeeper of the boundary between the world of Gensokyo and our world, she came with that solution. In the end, idk how much of it could be true since its all just a theory. But maybe it'll all become clear some day. I hope... And maybe we get to answer more questions about the pc-98 era which seemed to have disappeared as if it never existed, yet we still encounter some youkai from there like Yuuka and Alice.

ZUN's stated in an interview coupled with Silent Sinner in Blue that Watatsuki no Yorihime will never appear in the games because you're supposed to be able to win in video games and you wouldn't be able to win against her. He's never said what the strongest being in the universe is (it's pretty obvious from texts like Cage in Lunatic Runagate that it'd be a major deity like Amaterasu or Tsukiyomi, not a character who actually appears in-game.)

If the number of times the character appears as a boss is the gauge of their power (which it isn't,) then there are a whole bunch of other characters who qualify as stronger under your logic. Using real logic, the only possibilities are Watatsuki no Yorihime or the Dragon God of Gensokyo (en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Perfect_Memento_in_Strict_Sense/Dragon) Incidentally, the Dragon God Ryujin is also known as "Watatsumi," and has two daughters.
One of my favorite final bosses of all time. Everything about this fight as perfect. The scenario (fighting the goddess of all demons and shit), the imagery (let it all burn), the fight itself was snugly in the middle of heart-pounding challenge without being ball-breaking, and this song. Not only is the song itself amazing, but I'm still floored by how the song was actually kind of timed to the battle, as each part of the song lasted just long enough for one of Shinki's phases, so while the fight built itself to a climax, so did the song. That's friggin' genius. And of course this gains one additional bonus point in retrospect for being the last battle of the entire PC-98 series, a true finale to the end of an era (not counting the extra stage, of course).

fun fact: the cheeto lazer phase does a cirno due to how the cheeto's turning radius is. you can just stay right above her and nothing can hit you, and the phase will pass eventually even if you don't shoot her since, iirc, phases in MS do indeed have a long (and invisible) timer
There's also a rare glitch with the Cheeto lasers. If you end Stage 4 with one of those bullets on the screen, you'll be killed by an invisible one in the final stage before the fight.

It is full of completely wrong information and teenage cringe. Proceed at your own risk.) This truly is a dramatic battle. Shinki burnt her entire world down. Her power dominated her mind. She couldn't control herself anymore. She realized what she was doing, but there was no way to stop. Her true nature - the demon goddess she was - got back to the surface. She thought of every single one of her demon creations. Especially Yumeko, her biggest pride. She thought of them all as the demonic power unleashed its destructive force in vain, at the pathetic creature in front of her. Her whole creation, her whole world, she destroyed it. And when she finally regained control over herself, she didn't rebuild it. No, she ended the battle with that last attack, in the middle of the burning Pandemonium. Her daugther...she knew what her daugther had done. There was no purpose in rebuilding Makai. She didn't. And then, she vanished away, forever ashamed of what she had done.

Headcanon: When Shinki used Devil's Recitation, she destroyed not only Makai, but the ENTIRE PC-98 canon. All of the PC-98 characters except Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and Yuuka were wiped from the timeline. To the other characters, it was as if they had never existed. And the battle against Lolice takes place in the void of the destroyed timeline, that is, before the Windows canon came along and rebuilt it. ...Quick, someone make a PC-98 version of Concealed: The Conclusion with this concept.
Scary beginning, motivational, and sounds ominous as heck. It’s actually pretty good, not going to lie, I guess. 0:25 reminds me of a Touhou 1 or 2 track that I can’t remember (I think the track that i was thinking about is Touhou 1 music #04, lol)
While I do love the new touhou games. There are just something unique about fighting Shinki at collapsing Makai while this theme blares on. Gives me a mix of nostalgia, sadness, and hope. I think that is because PC-98 Touhou have a much more serious tone compared to Windows-era.
This is the best theme of a final boss from touhou for me. I love other final boss theme from the series but this ones is very serious and has an "ultimate battle" feeling. One of my favorite final boss theme from video games.

Actually this is false. Alice does not have a pure heart not even close. The Grimoire is an object that has no known origin, and it could have been created by Shinki herself. Of course I'm not saying your headcanon is kinda bad, but no that is exactly what I am saying.
Her design is impeccable. Eye-catching, beautiful, and yet commanding attention and respect. Just LOOKS like she should be the final boss. You know that fighting this girl will be anything but short or straightforward. And then you hear what she's capable of doing and you wonder what you've gotten poor Reimu into.

Shinki never burned her world down. When you beat her she concedes defeat and promises that she will do something about the tourist agency. Reimu goes back to her shrine and demons are still coming out of the portal or whatever it is. If anyone can find canon (NOT fanon) information about Shinki destroying everything, feel free to link me to it.
When did the community first form? Whatever the case, I'm glad people still remember and recontextualize the PC-98 Era to this day. That's one aspect I'm proud of.
I've thought of this crazy theory. What if Makai is Gensokyo in the far future? Bear with me here, the resemblances are uncanny. Byakuren's backstory lines up closely with what seems to be happening to Reimu, and although they're different religions Reimu might convert if something bad happened. Shinki resembles a more grown-up Remilia, complete with maid. Yuki and Mai closely resembling Marisa and Cirno is widely noted, and although the latter two hate each other the former are at best tsundere. Alice is widely accepted to be a former human, but so is Yuyuko, and their powers are similar. And Yuuka could be her own past self, not inconceivable for her.

Yuyuko = Invoking death, whatever that means. And I don't know how Yuyuko fits into your theory 5. Even if Remi and Shinki look a bit similar, their abilities set them completely apart. Remi is nowhere *near* being able to create (or destroy) her own dimension parallel to Gensokyo.

I like this strong theme She has a shocking resemblance to *Marisha* a cleric from Mystery of the emblem. Like Marisha straight up looks like Shinki but young. Marisha happens to have a friend named Yuliya who also kind of looks like Alice. Funnily enough Yumeko looke like Lachesis who's daughter Nanna kinda looks like Alice. Zun is def a fire emblem fan.

I never played the PC-98 era of Touhou. But I can't stop feeling the story behind this part of the game (I never played). The fact that the she destroyed Makai just to get Reimu is just *ugh* I don't know anymore. I just wish Shinki would make an appearance (even though I don't know her character that much).
Reminder Mima and *Yuuka* were also there, and went on quite a rampage. The infamous 'Genocide is just a game~* quote came from Yuuka in this game after all. It's entirely possible that background is Yuuka's doing

While I do love the new touhou games. There are just something unique about fighting Shinki at collapsing Makai while this theme blares on. Gives me a mix of nostalgia, sadness, and hope. I think that is because PC-98 Touhou have a much more serious tone compared to Windows-era.
I love her theme, despite the very flimsy plot of Mystic Square, it's such a powerful song even with the hardware limitations

This is the best theme of a final boss from touhou for me. I love other final boss theme from the series but this ones is very serious and has an "ultimate battle" feeling.

It took me forever and a day to beat her.
It's gonna take a LONG time for me to get to her and defeat her, especially on Lunatic mode.
And PC-98 game mechanics can be irritating at times.

Actually this is false. Alice does not have a pure heart not even close. The Grimoire is an object that has no known origin, and it could have been created by Shinki herself. Of course I'm not saying your headcanon is kinda bad, but no that is exactly what I am saying.
Her design is impeccable. Eye-catching, beautiful, and yet commanding attention and respect. Just LOOKS like she should be the final boss.
You know that fighting this girl will be anything but short or straightforward.
And then you hear what she's capable of doing and you wonder what you've gotten poor Reimu into.

Shinki never burned her world down. When you beat her she concedes defeat and promises that she will do something about the tourist agency. Reimu goes back to her shrine and demons are still coming out of the portal or whatever it is. If anyone can find canon (NOT fanon) information about Shinki destroying everything, feel free to link me to it.

I've thought of this crazy theory. What if Makai is Gensokyo in the far future? Bear with me here, the resemblances are uncanny. Byakuren's backstory lines up closely with what seems to be happening to Reimu, and although they're different religions Reimu might convert if something bad happened. Shinki resembles a more grown-up Remilia, complete with maid. Yuki and Mai closely resembling Marisa and Cirno is widely noted, and although the latter two hate each other the former are at best tsundere. Alice is widely accepted to be a former human, but so is Yuyuko, and their powers are similar. And Yuuka could be her own past self, not inconceivable for her.

3. Reimu and Byakuren are almost polar opposites. Reimu is a professional youkai exterinator, and shows no sympathy to anything remotely related to youkai (read Forbidden Scrollery). Also, they coexist in the same time frame, which would create a recursive paradox in the future
4. Alice and Yuyuko's powers aren't similar in the slightest. Alice = Magic. Yuyuko = Invoking death, whatever that means. And I don't know how Yuyuko fits into your theory
5. Even if Remi and Shinki look a bit similar, their abilities set them completely apart. Remi is nowhere *near* being able to create (or destroy) her own dimension parallel to Gensokyo.

She has a shocking resemblance to *Marisha* a cleric from Mystery of the emblem. Like Marisha straight up looks like Shinki but young. Marisha happens to have a friend named Yuliya who also kind of looks like Alice. Funnily enough Yumeko looke like Lachesis who's daughter Nanna kinda looks like Alice. Zun is def a fire emblem fan.

I never played the PC-98 era of Touhou. But I can't stop feeling the story behind this part of the game (I never played). The fact that the she destroyed Makai just to get Reimu is just *ugh* I don't know anymore. I just wish Shinki would make an appearance (even though I don't know her character that much).
Reminder Mima and *Yuuka* were also there, and went on quite a rampage.
The infamous 'Genocide is just a game~* quote came from Yuuka in this game after all.
