- Why are we on route 60?
The main reason we took route 60, over other perhaps faster and more optimal routes can be answered quite simply. It sounded fun. We have this thirst for the unknown. Although there’s not much left if any of the planet to be pioneered, we love taking roads less travelled. There were no posts about it on iOverlander, which is uncommon. This sparked curiosity, then we referred to our maps and confirmed the route has hundreds of sharp turns, a few mountain passes and was sure to be full of surprises.
We drive roads like route sixty because we’re constantly looking for the surprise factor. We don’t want everything to be easy, which sounds strange, but we want it to be memorable. These seemingly random dirt roads often tell the best stories, and that’s what we’re all about. So this is our chance to show you the unexpected sights and happenings along route 60
Route 60 is an 855km national road travelling East to West. It is technically one of Colombia’s most important routes, connecting two of the largest cities - Bogota and Medellin. We’re entering just North West of Botoga and will travel roughly 2/3s of its abstract characteristics.
As this route crosses two major mountain ranges in the Andes, it’s frequented by landslides, and parts of it were even closed for over a year back in 2019. There is major deterioration, construction and unmarked obstacles; paved highway turns to dirt, which turns to single lane rutted track. All while locals transport goods and fulfill their economical activities.
The elevation gain and loss along this route is not to be taken lightly. From nearly 3000M in the East, down to almost sea level, and back up again.

Your doing what I've always dreamed about doing. Back in the early 80's I use to overland locally in Pennsylvania but I usually only took a chainsaw , beer and once in awhile a tent.
Sounds like a way simpler time!
Said it before and I’ll say it again. I really felt like I was there. Great video. Love the music too.Thanks.
So happy you enjoy them 🙏🏼
Another epic adventure you guy's. Thanks for sharing. As always safe travels. ❤

I discovered your TH-cam channel about a week ago. and I am truly impressed. the way of filming you as a person, the music 👌 and choice of vehicle 😍 of course the route you drive makes me interested. beautiful really beautiful. Unfortunately I won't be able to drive there with my Peugeot boxer camper 🤣🤣, but there is also plenty to discover in the EU. Have a fantastic day. Greetings from Arnhem Netherlands
Welcome to the fam! We’re so stoked you enjoy the films 🤙🏼 we would love to head over to your neck of the woods one day!
Colombia es muy linda
flawless as always
I must be living right because I saw this video 36 secconds after it was posted. That cave was unreal and I could almost feel the presence of others there. It must have been amazing to be there in person. I certainly agree with the statement about cities vs the mountains. When I see those brightly colored towns I think that visitors to American must think we are very boring with all of our earthtones. Your journey is getting to the point where it seems like it will come to and end much too soon. I hope that you're not as close as it seems. As alway, best of luck and safe travels.
The cave felt so special. It truly felt like we weren’t alone in there. It’s kind of scary being in South America, because you are in fact correct that a good portion of our trip has come to a close. We know this chapter is going to be amazing, but we also fear the end is near.
Oh my goodness... That cave/waterfall😳 just watching I could feel the ancients there! How incredible! Yet another amazing video... They get better and better and listening to your and to Stacey's voices makes me miss you both so so much! So proud of you both ❤️ Stay safe ❤️❤️❤️
We miss you more!! 🤍
Thank you guys for sharing your experiences with us. Keep it up, you are going places...
Thank you for watching!
those mangosteen you eat the embryo part its the sweetest the outer is just protection
22:50 is a lovely way to say it.
great video
You two will never stop chasing waterfalls 💙💙 and I must admit, very impressed with Staceys cow whispering skills! Greetings from Austria - as always - much love ❤
HAHHAHAA yes all those years with horses taught me to handle the cows 😂
You’ve inspired me to travel Colombia! I spent 3 months in Ecuador and need to see more! Maybe even Peru. Thank you for the adventure
That gets us so stoked!! Get out there, it's always worth it.
oooh i like your opening and then how you named your channel. i like how that is.

Wow you guys always get the most beautiful footage. It’s been awesome to live this journey through you. As they said in cool runnings “peace be the journey” stay safe out there.

ventanas de tisquizoque was our favourite spot in colombia, so glad you guys made it there! our brakes failed going into Florian 😅
It was beautiful! Wish there was water but oh well. WE CANT IMAGINE THAT 😆 we also can’t wait to read your book. It sounds very entertaining
Awesome, I’ve driven that route from Bogotá to Medellin as well. Well actually we went a little further too. So fun 👌🏽
As always excellent video, the waterfalls are amazing.

❤that cave was beyond incredible, WOW greetings from very very very rainy Maple Ridge ❤❤

It’s a very fitting addiction 😂
Your adventures are so amazing
Matt and Stacy, thank you for all this nice videos and for such beautiful places you have caught on video, greetings from Mexico, god bless you.
Thank you for watching!
Great video. The purple fruit is a mangosteen, native to SE Asia. It's called the queen of tropical fruits. Cool that they can be found in S. America too.
So. Damn. Tasty.
This is a killer trip great vlog. Look forward to seeing more❤️🇨🇦🇵🇭 Stay safe and healthy❤️🇨🇦🇵🇭
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Greetings, very well done , what gets me thinking is that someone is farming the sides of cliffs all those square pach of grass that someone walks ta get in animals all almost straight up 😮😂😂
Thanks for a very informative, interesting, insightful, and fun time
💯👍🤙🖖
We talk of this often… farming on a hill is everywhere here. People must be in way better shape than us 😂
@ToyotaWorldRunners or mountain goats are in DNA, way way back, someone fell in love with a goat 🤪
Incredible as always. That cave looked wild. I especially liked this one because I visited Colombia in 2013. I went to El Penol and hiked to the top. Stayed in that region for a few days and then 4 or so days in Medellin.
The cave was very cool!! And that’s rad!
Hello from LA!
Hi, because of TH-cam's crazy algorithm I just landed on you channel. I am from Colombia, live in route 56, which is the same as 60 but a little to the south. Both the 56 and 60 are nothing but ideas from engineers sitting on a table in the capital, away from the reality of the geography of this part of the country. Not a lot of people live around because there is not really a route, and there is not really a route because no people live around. Its sad but is the way Colombia is. Good work, bye!?
Thanks for another great video. You guys are inspirational. Hopefully cross paths on the road one day.
We would love that! Thanks for watching !
Just subscribed!
Awesome and inspiring !
Welcome!
Damn, finding that cave with the stone godzilla must have been freaking wild.
It was such a pleasant surprise!
I spotted you when you camped near Medellín in Cocorná, in front of that waterfall. I regret I didn't stop by to say "hi" (at that time I wasn't following your channel( but I do remember that I was like "What a rig". Best luck to you guys, and thank you for showing those beautiful places about Colombia!
No way! Well we will consider this a "hi!" Thanks for watching, glad you found us.
Wonderful! And simply so. Was a little concerned about Columbia, looks like you are going to make it through just fine.
Absolutely!
Guys, you did las cascadas de tisquizoque. Florian , the forest, is one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen. Colombia, and its splendor, is one of the most beautiful countries to do overlanding, its a shame that its not costa rica if safety, still, with prudency it can be seen and enjoyed.
I have had the pleasure of doing it.
The drone is incredible
Guys you re awesome. your production, and your photography, are absolutely beautiful.
I have been on the route Otanche-Puerto Boyacá. is a very rough route, but its amazing, i recommend you if you are heading to manizales, pereira etc.
1. the route manizales- murillo- you can see the thermal waters call "termales del sifón" and "termales de la cabaña" and this is one of the most beautiful routes in Colombia.
2. the route salento toche (very rough route, but wort it)
3. the old route salento - armenia
All added to our list! Thank you so much for the compliment 🙏🏼
