My first and favorite entrance to Sedona is from the Cottonwood side. I literally cried as I topped the hill and the Sedona canyon came into view. Also cried at the Chapel lighting a candle for loved ones. Was there for a week...very touching experience. Don't miss the Wildflower Bakery if you go.
Sedona changed me! I moved to Sedona just after I left Microsoft, to be an independent computer consultant. When I left, I had been a professional psychic reader for a year, along with the occasional computer repair job. The vortexes just brought out the psychic stuff. I could fix your computer, then give you a reading. ;) Sedona changed me!
We went to Sedona a year ago. My wife had never been there and we arrived in the dark. In the morning when we went outside she was just in awe having no idea how beautiful it was.
Visited Sedona a few years ago and did a atv ride up in the hills. Got lost but eventually found our way back on the correct trail. Was just the best day.
20:50 The reason for Sedona being a dark community is because there are two telescopes located east/north east of Sedona. The Discovery Channel Telescope, and the Perkins Telescope...there's also a naval interferometer located near the Perkins Telescope. Flagstaff is also a dark community.
That Red Rock Scenic Byway sign is relatively new. We first drove in 30 years ago and it’s grown so much. Developers have to follow color code and color their buildings the same as the surrounding land. Great drive in.
I really enjoyed watching this. It was very relaxing and this is really beautiful country. The stabilized wide angle footage was really pleasant to watch.
Bell Rock was a picture postcard perfect with that deep red & deep blue sky! Very relaxing ride this morning seeing the Chapel. Sedona was neat with the wavey patterned median. Lots of stores to explore. Restaurants to visit. Such an inviting looking town. I liked the artwork in the center of the round abouts. The last says to me, peacefully sit & read a book. Just all in all a beautiful area to visit!
Russ, thanks to let me ride w/you by youtube. its my 2nd time in Sedona thanks to your videos just one day we wre there..lovely and beautiful place..greetings from Sonora
The US of A may have ridiculous politics but it has world-class scenic landscapes. I drove through Sedona after coming down from Prescott and Jerome way back in 1993. It was late in the afternoon and the motel prices were beyond my budget in Sedona. So I continued to drive up the canyon to Flagstaff. Ended up staying in a 'Budget' Motel there for that night. Well, it was a 'dive'. A real flea pit. Next day it was on to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Memories.
Spent a week at Sedona RV park in ‘17, had a great time visiting all the sites, slide rock was to busy and no parking. Was amazed by all the rock formations around there.
Mr. Russ, your voice is very calming. Thank you for posting your videos. I am on a planning stage of heading westwards for a few months next winter. Mr. Russ, could you do more videos on free camping? Thank you again for the videos.
Love Sedona. I see they put that barrier up in the middle to cut down on the jay-walking. It is a great base area for the area. It is maybe a 2hr drive to the Grand Canyon. The Pink Jeep Tour is great. The hiking is amazing. The vortexes are those spiritual things. We hiked to one and sat there and I thought i felt something, but it was just gas. My sisters thought it was funny but apparently there are people who really take that stuff seriously. Got a couple of dirty looks.
Went through Oak Creek Canyon in the early fifties on our way to Grand Canyon. Don’t remember Sedona, maybe it didn’t exist then. Scenery was awesome then as it is today. Grand Canyon was the prize , amazing! Nice video thank you.
When we visited there I found the lack of street lights made it difficult to find your way around at night. But then the place seems to close down at sunset anyway. We tried the rattlesnake at the Cattlemens Association restaurant. Was mushy and tasted like fish.
When you land the drone at 5:16, Russ, I believe the camera is pointing along 179's original route. At 4:24 one can see the old bridge spanning the wash in the lower left. Spectral sights haunting a very scenic highway; thanks for the ride.
Hey Russ, another neat video. You are defiantly right about the rocks looking like artwork. I feel kind of sorry for people who cannot get enjoyment out of the things you and I find interesting. Well, that is all for now stay safe. Catch up with you later.
My trip at 2017, The road of Sedona to Flagstaff was really torching to first visitor like me. I had to struggle to concentrate drive due to every scenic was too Amazing. My A89 drive was almost same as Russ's video. I believe next video will show Midgrey Bridge and Slide Rock etc.this video made me attract to reserve airplane ticket again. :)
The first time I was in Sedona in 1994, there was a two lane road thru town. i went back in 1998 they had widened the road to 4 lanes plus a center turn lane, it was like they moved the buildings back on one side of the road.
We usually vacation in Sedona every other (non-COVID) year about the time the Christmas lights go up. Beautiful vistas, a few excellent places to eat both cheap and super expensive, you can resort or camp, something for everyone who loves nature. I take 89a from Cottonwood, a much easier ride than all those awful rotaries on 179. Plus you missed most of the business and eating areas of the town on 89a. Come when it’s cooler, avoid the crowds.
I love your videos. always very entertaining with a great laugh and positive attitude. Could you please mention the date of the year you are visiting these areas to know exactly when the fall colors are in blaze?
To me the ride through the VOC , Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon are even more breathtaking on a motorcycle. You can feel something mystical about the area.
Drove this route to Flagstaff last fall, 2019, in a 40' motorhome towing a sedan. It was quite the trip. Not sure I'd do it again in a MH. Beautiful ride...
You also missed Tlaquepaque.. beautiful. Its like you took a chunk out of old Mexico and brought it to Sedona. Come on, you missed Snoopy Rock too.. Great video
I don't believe I have ever heard you say "what a run down place" as you drive through the towns that time has past by. Maybe I just didn't notice. Beautiful day to fly your drone!

I cried when I drove through Santa Barbara. Gorgeous place.

The drive North from Phoenix to Flagstaff is beautiful. I once visited Sedona when I was 14 years old, in 1985.
Russ, I’ve said it before but that camera has a beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing your travels with us.
Really beautiful scenery. Nice break from daily routine and cold weather.

Hi Russ ! Thanks for this wonderful video. Beautiful landscape like a westernmovie..

Nice place...cleanest town I've ever seen!
Russ, thanks for another gorgeous trip.
i love this channel! no drama!
There are 2 Observatories, one in Flagstaff/Lowell Observatory and another near Happy Jack/Discovery-telescope.
Thanks, I’m hoping to visit next year. I’d like to take a squint through a good telescope.
Visited Sedona early September. Drove in from Cottonwood via 89a. Nice to see the ride in on 179. Beautiful region of AZ with so many things to do!

I was there and Grand Canyon last month. After watching your video, make me wanna go again. Amazing view. Stay safe out there.
27:03 use to be a two lane road. You use to be able to pull off to the right or left and take pics back in 2005
Thank you for this video of What is the Best Scenic Drive to Sedona

This place is BEAUTIFUL!!!! 😍
I literally did not know about this place before watching this video.
Cool video Russ, my grandparents live in Sedona, last time I visited them about 14 months ago, their house was valued at $549,206....
Beautiful scenery, I used to own a house in Whispering Pines which is about 12 miles NE of Payson, very beautiful in that area also.
We’ll be out there in March from Kentucky! Can’t wait!
I absolutely love your channel. It's giving me a preview of the trip I will soon make . Thank you
thank you
My Cousin lives in Mesa, so this trip was awesome, thank you (from Australia)
We went through there a couple of weeks ago and spent 10 days in Sedona.
The sky's so blue. Really beautiful.
Great travel videos are narrated by someone with a pleasant voice to listen to-and this one meets that standard.
Thank you for the early morning drive. That is the time and route I would take for shopping, yoga ... the area offers a very healthy lifestyle.
💕👍
Arizona is Beautiful:)
thank you... We love Sedona, AZ! We try to visit once a year. Hiking and more hiking; paradise for me.
Do u have to pay for parking ,to hike
What a beautiful drive Russ. Thanks for taking us for the ride. I miss the mountains out in Arizona.
Very cool! Thanks Russ!
Mid 80's slide Rock was fun someone allowed us to enjoy their backyard with a trickle of a river running through - awesome place!

Making me homesick!
Nice and clean, no visible trash. Very nice

Thanks Russ for all your owesome videos.
I was just in Sedona I’m going to be at Quartzsite in January at the Dessert Sun RV park
OMG, it's so beautiful out there in AZ.
Beautiful scenery.
When we visited there I found the lack of street lights made it difficult to find your way around at night. But then the place seems to close down at sunset anyway. We tried the rattlesnake at the Cattlemens Association restaurant. Was mushy and tasted like fish.
But the area is beautiful. We saw it from the basket of a hot air balloon.
Yuk...sounds nasty. Thanks for tasting it so I don’t have to. Take care, odfarmboy.
Guess it wasn't a good idea to try rattlesnake at a steak house, kinda like ordering a hamburger at a mandarin restaurant.
Yeah! Love when you get excited about stuff! Yeah!

I prefer Oak Creek to Sedona myself, it grown over the year's though.
just gorgeous, especially with foliage color💜
I spent a couple of nights in Sedona 5 years ago on a trip out west. I enjoyed Sedona about as much as anyplace. Very pretty. Good hiking trails.
I was up there last July and plan on going there this summer after I move out to Mesa in April.
