  • We had been planning this Mojave Road overland trip for several months and we would have never imagined we would get hit with a snow storm along the way. We spent 4 days and 3 nights along this historic trail exploring the interesting geological structures, historical landmarks and quickly man made relics.... it was truly and unforgettable adventure! #mojavetrail #jeepwrangler #overlanding

It's called lapse rate. Generally speaking -3.5F for every 1,000ft gained is the accepted number but it techically varies with moisture content in the air. Dry air will see a larger drop of up to around 5.4F+- while moist air will see less of a drop at around 2.7+-. It's just easier to say -3F drop per 1,000.

I just returned from Mojave last night, (4 days- Balancing Rock to the Water Crossing) and had to watch this video again. What a great experience Mojave Road was. Thanks for the tips on making it such a successful trip. The camp in the New York Mountains was definitely the best of the 4 camps I stayed at. Balancing Rock was a close second. I missed the Rock House somehow, but managed to see everything else and more. I even saw Marco’s rock on the monument, still near the top. The crossing was deep, (About half way up the doors) and a little made its way into the cab, but It was dry by the time I got home. My Jeep did extremely well, and luckily suffered no trail damage. I’ve got to say, that was one of the best trips I’ve been on. Thanks again! OIIIIIIIO

In case it hasn't been mentioned b4, you would be shocked at how much better a campfire would be if you would tote along a washing machine drum. Put it up on several football sized rocks. The wood burns much more efficiently, slower, the heat retention will amaze everyone. You will burn so much less wood and the warmth that radiates in all directions will blow you away. The steel of the drum heats up and radiates a tremendous amount of heat. The rocks provide a taller heat blanket as well as providing air flow and also heat up and radiate heat. Try it once and you will never go back to pit campfires again. I realize space is limited with your rvs but this you WILL make room for. Regular campfires loose more heat than they radiate.
