    This time, your video's title, "Bitter Truth About Malaysia," quickly caught my attention because I have my own bitter truth, especially regarding Kuala Lumpur. I wholeheartedly concurred with one of your interviewees who mentioned that KL is less walkable, particularly for those with disabilities. The majority of the pathways in KL have uneven surfaces and are somewhat narrow. Furthermore, there are a lot of motorcycles parked along the pathways, which makes them much more difficult to navigate. In popular tourist destinations like Bukit Bintang, there are a lot of foreign beggars. This predicament damages Malaysia's reputation. Certain parts of KL, like the region behind Kota Raya, give you the impression that you are abroad. It's crowded with Bangladeshis who treat you like you're in Dhakka. I hope that Kuala Lumpur's City Hall and other officials would pay attention to all of the complaints and make improvements to the city to make it more user-friendly for both locals and tourists.

    • @AnneLaniaz
      @AnneLaniaz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      I've seen motorcycles parked on the walkway in front of shops. It has become a norm. Imagine people in wheelchairs or moms with strollers trying to navigate their way through the motorcycles. Why didn't the local authorities do anything? Not to mention motorcycles parked at parking allocated for cars. Do they get summons for not paying the parking fee?

    • @noordinbeldenlex1620
      @noordinbeldenlex1620 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@AnneLaniaz - That's exactly what I meant when I mentioned that KL is less walkable. In light of my personal experience as a double amputee, it is actually a very hostile scenario. Even though I am able to walk and don't need a wheelchair, the uneven terrain and small path make it difficult for me to stroll for extended periods of time. It is even harder for me to get across some of the walkways because there are motorcycles parked along them. I'm not sure who should take the blame for inadequate parking or lack of consideration-the riders of motorbikes or the relevant authorities. Actually, I feel more comfortable strolling about Singapore-even in Bangkok-than in KL.

    • @flyinghigh2000
      @flyinghigh2000 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@AnneLaniazI'm a motorcycle rider myself. I hate parking motorcycle in KL. People parking on the street side because there are not enough parking. It is illegal, their bike might be picked up by authorities but even near MRT/LRT station they don't have enough parking. Even at my office I park my bike in my assigned car park and someone always make a fuss about it, what am I going to do my building doesn't have any motorcycle parking at all.

    • @noordinbeldenlex1620
      @noordinbeldenlex1620 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@flyinghigh2000 - The issue with the existing situation is that motorbike riders cannot be solely blamed for parking their bikes whenever it is most convenient for them. I believe they won't hesitate to use the appropriate location if one is provided, but not every location has enough room for them to use. If so, they may just need to park their motorcycles temporarily, but they will still need to walk a considerable distance. Because of this, they just parked their motorcycles in the pedestrian walkways, which is problematic, especially for individuals with disabilities like me to pass through. It's also an unsightly sight to see motorcycles parked in inappropriate locations. For the sake of all users, I hope KL City Hall would handle this matter in a timely and convenient manner.

    In all
    Honesty I have to agree.
    I’m going back to KL in March, after having been twice last year.
    What I actually noticed a little of in May, then even more in November, was that there were a lot of East African (mostly Kenyan women) hanging about in the Changkat area of Bukit Bintang.
    I spotted like one or two Malay-Chinese escorts, but the ones I noticed more of (being a black female myself) were the black women who I thought were waiting for their mates outside some of the bars.
    However, turns out once I clocked, that these women weren’t exactly dressed like they were on a night out. They were prostitutes.
    It’s sad to see, and tbh, I personally felt sickened. I found out that some go to Malaysia on student visas n then somehow get roped into prostitution.
    I personally feel it’s disrespectful and disgraceful of them to do that. It also then will create a negative stereotype of other black women. I’m of Caribbean descent and have a different look, however it’s wrong.
    They leave their home country to do this? And I dk why the authorities are not doing anything about it?
    To me, they made the area look bad and they looked cheap. Sorry but it’s the truth. Call a spade a spade.
    Regardless of the fact that you wanna work, get a proper job 👍🏾! Don’t go to another country to cheapen yourself!
    I’m not gonna feel sorry for them, coz they don’t deserve sympathy.
    I love KL, and I love Bukit Bintang, but the area wasn’t like that when I first visited in 2007.
    It’s still a great city, but I don’t like that some of these ladies will create a negative impression for other black women like myself.

      That's very sad thing to see. Yes, lot of foreigners (especially from China, south asia and africa) took advantage of malaysian hospitality and leniency by overstaying and do illegal things.
      It getting worse with corruption among officials. It does give a very bad reputation to Malaysia in general.

      I talked with one of the elegantly-dressed African prostitutes when I was there. Her English was very good. She was very attractive and in good shape. I would think it's easy for her to find a supportive boyfriend or husband. I didn’t learn her backstory. I saw a few more African escorts (more in Bangkok, btw), but the large majority were Asians from different countries.

      As a westerner I don't even bother with the "night" life scene and what I look for in a city is good public transit, parks to enjoy, relatively cheap food (compared to what I pay) and friendly locals to interact with. I like that each city rather it be KL, Bangkok, Saigon so on is uniquely different and has its own appeal. I think if you travel you must have somewhat of an open mind regarding your experiences. While I haven't been to KL yet it does look like a modern and peaceful city with lots of greenery and different food options which are all things I look for in a place to visit.

There are negatives in all countries you see and visit. Weirdly enough, I've never been to your country The Netherlands even though I am only across the English Channel in England. Some seem a little hesitant to give their response. Perhaps you could rephrase your question, "What are the things that you believe they should improve on?" Or "Things they can make it much better?" That way probably they will give more examples. No one wants to condemn a country they are currently staying or living in. However, people are open to give ideas to make things better. Censor their face, protect their identity. That lady mentioned about the human trafficking, she might know something but doesn't want to disclose further. You know, her face right there you are jeopardizing her safety. Some sensitive matters really should not be interviewed in such manner. Your episode is about bitter truth, but protect their identity and safety.

But somehow I always feel that your videos do not get enough locals in it. I mean the locally born citizens. Would be better if there's a higher proportion of locals in the videos.
    And why do I suggest so? That's because foreigners might just hang around in their own small expat circles, go to the touristy spots, and only stay in their luxury condos. They also tend to belong to a certain socioeconomic group and might not be affected by the hardship that the locals suffer. As a result, they might not be able to give a more wholesome account of what the place really is. That wouldn't be the bitter fact already.

      I get it :) I also try to get a good mix. Though my audience is also American, European, and Australian. I especially want to give them a good idea what it is like to live in KL as a foreigner. Some in the near future will come up with more locals to get the bigger picture, I promise :D Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏

    The reason there are NO ASH TRAYS provided here in Malaysia is bcos smoking is prohibited in Public places/outlets. Even in Private settings, a Smoking Area is designated in a seperate area.
    The Gov health care department is trying to eradicate smoking behavior not only by way of probibition but by raising the price of Cigarettes.
    It has worked to a certain degree.
    Heavy smokers are smoking less bcos it's expensive and school aged children aren't smoking bcos they can't afford it.
    However, the ones that MUST smoke will have to smoke outside.

      Nah.. not really.. Malaysia actually became a human trafficking hub since 10years ago. Do you think all those Banglas, Rohignyas and all illegal immigrants came to Malaysia easily without paying huge money to smuggler? How about a massive graveyard founded in Wang Kelian near to the border of Malaysia-Thailand? Human trafficiking is a global underground network and super lucrative money. It is not easy to crack them down as it might involve few corrupt politicians, local authorities and NGOs.

These trafficking activities were done by many of illegal immigrants who sold fake passports, fake UNHCR cards, fake ID. You name it, they have them all.. Many Indonesian women were con by their country men with fake jobs only ended up as prostitute here.

Thailand, 2 Malaysia, 3 Vietnam

    As a Malaysian, I do really feel there are rooms for improvement need to be done by the Local Authority and the Law Enforcer, especially on the illegal immigrants that flocked into Malaysia and take the job that supposed to be filled by the Malaysians. Bukit Bintang even though the night life is entertaining especially the buskers performing free concert, but the reality is there are still a darkside of KL where the pimps and the h**kers without hesitant promoting their services, which is bad for us as a Muslim's majority country. Although that darkside entertainment are meant for discrete groups, it should not be allowed. Cleanliness and decorations especially at the backyard also should be improvised. Local Authority and the premises owners should clean up their places routinely then we will be a more beautiful and at par with other european countries such as Netherlands, Belgium or Switzerland.. Innovations on that particular aspects are critical.

    I went to KL in Sept 2023 and felt quite uncomfortable as a white solo female. When walking around the city I was getting stared at, catcalled, and men were taking photos of me. Some of it was probably just fascination, but I generally got the sense that respect for women here is not high. I also had someone try to snatch my shopping bags near Jalan Alor night market. Besides that, the food was some of the best I’ve had in the world and the Batu Caves were incredible. Just a heads up to solo female travellers to be a little more cautious here than in Bangkok per se, where I felt perfectly safe.
