I have traveled to Europe several times but I think Southeast Asians are generally friendlier and more open than most Europeans, Southeast Asian culture is smiling and friendly
Racism is not between locals and foreigners but between races in a country. Don't interview foreingers on racism because the perception already built-in, they are here to spend money and help the economy, most people won't say bad things to them in general.
That's because some of them are just plain rude. I also get annoyed with some mainlanders. I however once worked with china Chinese who is child of elite parents. He behave just like any overseas Chinese. He told me his family won't be accused of supporting sun Yat Sen, because his grandpa oversee a province for Mao. So they never had to emphasize via behavior that try are communist (I.e. Loud, pushy, etc). It is important to know what premises that you are having a Coca-Cola(better analogy) The same can of coca-cola prices are different on a hawker stall, coffee shop(non-aircond), cafe, pub, bar and hotel. The price difference is astronomical. My favourite nasi lemak is always from the street from the ad-hoc stalls. It is cheap and delicious.

The word ‘Asian’ is too generic, we are not the same people, the same culture and the same mentality.. like me as a Malaysian I can’t relate much with Vietnam let alone east Asia.. and also Central Asia and Middle East are also part of Asia… usually to westerners perspective, ‘Asian’ to them are Chinese looking people and Budhist background, hence they think all asian people look the same, thats why I recently refrain to identify myself as asian and Malaysia as an asian country because the reality is that we are Nusantaran & Austronesian….. we have our own identity, culture and value, we are closely related to the Polynesian of pacific islanders.
Like most Asian countries, Malaysians are more friendly towards Caucasian looking person. I'm a Malaysian myself and I get to know some African, South Asian and Arabian friends in my university, and they all expereinced certain extent of discrimination. But still, good effort.

Northern European and lived in Malaysia for a decade and Malaysia is the only country i have experienced aggressive racism and other forms of racism both from institutions and individuals multiple times. As with everything it's a minority of people. 1. Hot accused of being Persian and got jumped by 3 guys with weapons, luckily for me they weren't good fighters, luckily for them i was tired and emotional. The PDRM returned their weapons back to them! At same time we (police and I) witnessed a bag snatching and they did nothing as the victim was ethnic chinese and the perpetrator looked sub-saharan african. 2. Dual pricing system, official and unofficial. Taxi drivers getting violent when u refuse to not pay off meter!! (Not an issue now thx Grab) And any museum, park etc etc etc 3. Taxation WITHOUT representation. 4. Government workers obsession in knowing the ethnicity of my partner, and treat me differently depending on how I answer. 5. Getting offered different food and constantly being asked if i like spicy food/can use chopsticks/eat with hands etc. Guys your food ain't spicy at ALL... 6. Can't access some simple things as don't have a NRIC... Example, was unable to get a JPJ appointment to renew license through their useless app as no IC. List goes on. Mostly it's an inconvenience but has turned needlessly and stupidly violent multiple times. Malaysians seem to have a need to put people in a box so that they can then make assumptions and avoid certain topics. Leads to some really dafuq conversations at times. Used to have a staggeringly racist boss too, to the point i didn't understand her at times as our thoughts were so misaligned. Wow that was cathartic.😂

During my time in Malaysia, I have found the local Malay people to be incredibly welcoming and warm. However, my experiences with individuals of mixed Malaysian heritage have been different. I had a negative encounter with someone like that who displayed arrogance and a sense of entitlement. It was disheartening.
To be honest based on my experience before stayed at Europe country, westerns are more racist than Malaysian. Some of them hates Malaysian because of Islam, because this country is small. They hate azan, they hate hijab etc. Somehow, the funniest thing is some of them love our food, especially rendang and teh tarik (this happened during raya puasa, few times we had open house, invited them for dinner and tau2 habis rendang aku dorg bantai). But these peope hate us. Why? Because we're the Islamic, small and 3rd world country. Bab small country tu memang buat aku bengang. Bingai punya mat saleh. Sayang aku xde glob kat umah masa tu. Nak je aku tunjuk comparison Malaysia dgn Singapore. Mujur kaki aku pendek, nak flying kick tak sampai. Kebanyakan member husband aku tu semua kepala nak cecah siling umah. Aku ni paras2 pusat dorg je. Hukhukk sabar jela aku.

This is actually a good interview. Maybe the comment section will calm down if he titled it as 'tourists'. I agree that foreigners who lived her longer from Bangladesh,Rohingya etc gets different treatment but there are other issues such as legality of entry and generalization from Msians who are racists or people who have bad experience with them. For tourists tho it's completely different, they are guests and will be treated as such. If you all watch more travel interviews in SEA foreigners do point out Msia is really chill and they feel a sense of belonging here compared to other SEA country as we've everyone from everywhere. We should however treat our foreign workers better and cherish our multi cultural country
For people who saying that malaysia is racist toward other race is wrong, it's all about the attitude. Most of race have similar attitude which lead to racism not tryna be defensive but try living in malaysia for 5 years and you will know what i mean. Not all people with that race is the same but if one news come out we already know what kind of person and race are they
I think your title should read "Do Malaysians Discriminate against White People?". Why don't you try interviewing Africans, Bangladeshis, Nepalis, Indonesians, Burmese etc.
funny thing is that here in Malaysia... foreigners arent discriminated especially from the EU.... but when comes to fellow southeast asian, they immediately become racist... no matter if u r Malaysian going to the Indonesia or Thailand or vice versa.
Malaysian didn't discriminate foreigners in general, because of politic idiocy Malaysian discrimination among themselves , Malaysian fighting each and other in many issues like racism, Islamic fanatic, rich and poor differences, east and west Malaysia have different demand, government policies etc.
Unfortunately, some tourists exploit the nice and generous treatment by beg-packing, asking for money to pay for their next trip. If that were to happened in a European country, and a pair of tourists were asking for money on the street, they would be apprehended.
Ah, you are asking white people. Of course they won't have such discrimination experience. Try interview some foreign workers like bangladesh, or those from other SEA countries, i am sure a lot of them have different stories. Or even ask for african people in Malaysia.
Malaysia doesn't discriminate, they just look at you guys just to open a conversation. Cuz believe me, they just wanna hear good thing about Malaysia from foreigners OR getting 1001 recommending thing to do in Malaysia. I remember i ended up gave a tour to a foreigner when I was just walking around KL. Ended up having a good day and gave them free tour.
I guessed you never experienced racism from these Western foreigners. Lucky for you. I wouldn't be too nice to them since I've experienced first hand how rowdy, racist they are as a group. No they're not drunk😅 They know exactly what they're doing.
I am a traveller. The question about discrimination to a traveller is a preconceived biased concept. What do you mean as discrimination. Not being treated equally or fairly as a customer? Nor being received or accepted as a normal person? Some people relate about foreign workers/ So what they are saying foreigners should be treated fairly, they can come here, able to work and conduct business freely as locals?
don't be shy! i'm planing on visiting kuala lumpur next year and we, foreigners, are also shy to speak with locals but it's very interesting and a good experience for both
Malaysian don't discriminate against westerner. However they discriminate against Asian foreigner especially those foreign worker. Sad reality of my country.
It's simple, the reason British people are called racist toward immigrants to the UK, is because nobody choosing to live among us respects our culture and customs. Nothing to do with skin colour, religion or anything else, just a casual disregard for British ways. That's why we have been made to feel ashamed of our own heritage.
What is your culture and custom? Sorry i am visiting from the UK and have lived here for 4 months - im confused by your comment, i am muslim - i love praying at the local masjid full of Malays, the children are a delight! One of the worst experience that i had was when a group of young malaysian bikers attacked us with acid we were lucky because our school was near and we run inside but my brother's shirt was ruined, there was a big hole in his shirt because of the acid.
There's a friend of mine who is dsrk skinned Indian, young and slim and bearded but a calm cool guy. He once waited at the free Selangor bus stop, the bus came but the driver drove passed him. Several minutes later he u-turned and talked shit at my friend "You Malaysian, ah?! You must be a civilian to use free bus, ah!" Then he showed the driver his ID, driver stopped arguing and let him in but with a diaappointed face. He assumed my friend is an illegal immigrant.

(Not an issue now thx Grab) And any museum, park etc etc etc

As an expat in Malaysia for 12 yrs. I find Malaysians in general to be friendly and polite. However, if Im being honest, local Chinese/Indians are friendlier than the Malay Malay. One example is when it comes to English, "some" will frown and make face when you are unable to communicate in Bahasa. This is common in fastfoods, malls. Which I find it weird coz these restaurants or shops should anticipate to have foreigner customers.
But again, overall, Malaysians are good and honest people.
I stumbled onto this channel trying to learn about Malaysia. I am curious about the cultures, the view, everything. I have ancestry there but was born in America. So I just want to learn more about where part of my ancestors came from.
The Malays are the only native race to build a NEW modern country successfully after ww2.

Well, Malaysia is among the few countries in the world didn't ratify UN's 'The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination' (ICERD). Malaysia is also one only country segregates it's own citizens into two groups which is Bumiputera and Non-Bumiputera. There is also special privillages for majority Malay muslims interms of education, jobs in public sector and economic packages.
also same country allow hundred languages to speak in public. this is the 1st thing

Try asking international students, who get discriminated in government universities with their visa problems, being only white in the class, nobody helping with their problem, they suck their all money for tuition but they don't even get chance to get 1 month extension visa in order to attend graduation ceremony, that's why they fly back home and come back for 2-3 days to attend graduation! I even remember there was Palestinian friend who applied for renewal visa in his 2nd year of studies in UM visa unit, officers in charge took a picture and when he asked why are you doing that, officer said, you are foreigner here, shut your mouth I can kick you out of this country! Try asking real expats/students who struggle

Nope, this is only suitable for gaining European/Caucasian followers, not really locals like us.
Racism is very common in Malaysia
For people who saying that malaysia is racist toward other race is wrong, it's all about the attitude. Most of race have similar attitude which lead to racism not tryna be defensive but try living in malaysia for 5 years and you will know what i mean. Not all people with that race is the same but if one news come out we already know what kind of person and race are they
Malaysia is not racist, then you continue to say the most racist bullshit lol 😂 some advise stop watching the news and go out and meet people
Ask uneducated 😂
Can you show one example? Or just generalising
Kenapa interview orang putih jer?
Hey how about try asking a Malay Staff in a chinese company. I’m very intrigued to know the answers
Ah, you are asking white people. Of course they won't have such discrimination experience. Try interview some foreign workers like bangladesh, or those from other SEA countries, i am sure a lot of them have different stories. Or even ask for african people in Malaysia.
My oldest sister in law is British...never have any problems like that. She lives here more than 40 years.
Some people relate about foreign workers/
So what they are saying foreigners should be treated fairly, they can come here, able to work and conduct business freely as locals?
As a Malaysian , honestly I'm so shy to talk to foreigners 😂 they're huge and I'm just tiny and I feel so intimidated lol 😂
don't be shy! i'm planing on visiting kuala lumpur next year and we, foreigners, are also shy to speak with locals but it's very interesting and a good experience for both
Loll great comment 😂
