- We are in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. It is so known as KL. In this episode we street interview random local people in KLCC Park to see how to behave in Malaysia to stay out of trouble. They don't talk too much about politics, or religion, and are mindful about the different cultures they're living with.
This is filmed at KLCC Park; goo.gl/maps/JwQCN5tLDNuJFfDg9

1. Don’t condemn/provoke anything related to ‘3R’ (Religion, Race & Royal).
2. Kelantan & Terengganu states are most islamic (each state has their own islamic laws & it’s mostly applied to Malays) compared other states. So, wear modesty (cover up from shoulders downward knees) is a pleasant behaviour to Terengganu & Kelantan people eyes. But locals wouldn’t force tourists to follow that as locals understand foreigners might not informed about locals way of modesty wearings.
3. Don’t be too loud/condemning when an unexpected issue happens in public because most Malaysians are easily triggered. They’re prefer ‘slow-talk’ (polite negotiations) approach or just go through legal procedures. Karens might not suitable to live in Malaysia 🙃
Perfect addition to this episode. Thanks a lot :D
Terengganu isn't that strict. I don't even know what kinda "own islamic law" we have and I live here. LOL the stereotype is crazy. we're not like kelantan. the only reason we're considered "most islamic" is because the population is over 90% malay. other states will be islamic as well if they have the same demographic.
Point 3 is debatable. Malaysian some times can be loud and obnoxious especially if there's a big argument. we ain't timid like the east asian but not as straight forward as the americans. we're in between
That’s the unique thing about Malaysia they respect each others culture and customs. Very friendly people.
Super friendly:) thanks for watching 🏆
They tolerate each others cultures and religions because they know they have no choice... Google what happened in KL in 1969.
@abw48
Nope. It is before the Independence that culture already existed. That culture was well known throughout the history of the malay archipelago.
The major difference between Malaysia and neighboring countries is that Malaysia's fundamental independence are based on integration of the races and not assimilation (Indonesia as an example). Therefore, respect each other cultures, languages, religions etc and abide the constitution.
That is why Malaysia is known with the slogan 'Malaysia Truely Asia'.
That isn't good enough, we need political change.
@@kayellai5278 how many time change already...haiyaaa..
yes sir, common dress code for malaysian, cover from shoulder to knee. dont wear too much revealing when in public area. we really appreciate that. 😁 try to receive or give something with right hand only.
Thanks!
Hi Chai, it's alright to show affection when meeting a close friend here in Malaysia, just know your boundaries. Generally, it's alright to dress up as you wish, just don't go overboard to show respect to the locals. Thanks again, for highlighting these small but important topics that will help tourist to enjoy their holiday in Malaysia more seamlessly! 😂✌️
Thanks mate :) I'm pleased to see you enjoyed this one :)
That applies to public areas only. But if you are in a public bar, pub or a dance club, you can dress as little as you can. You can also show-off how highly affection that you are for the public to view. There are places that are exceptional.
in malaysia, kelantan is the most conservative with their own state rules but i've seen many western backpackers there with sleeveless shirt and short, nobody care because they know you're tourist but of course
anywhere you go common sense is very important, without common sense you should not travel
for example if you go to mexico don't talk bad about cartel..
yes, like Ken Abroad channel (the guy from Germany).
Going to Malaysia in a week or so. Nice to have some insights 👍
Perfect! I’m sure you’ll enjoy 😃 thanks for watching 🏆
In terms of kissing, if it’s a pat on the cheek or a quick kiss on the mouth in KL, I really don’t think it’s a problem. That’s me speaking as a Malaysian but if one do the whole French kissing thing in public, that would be frowned upon. I think it’s also a peculiar sight in some western countries too eg Australia, UK etc
Aah thanks for your input I’m there :) haha yeah I think most people find it awkward to see other people having a full on French kiss anywhere 😅 thanks for watching and interacting 🏆 cheers!
It is gross to put one's tongue down another's throat.
@@Chai_Travel oh, i did it openly when i was visiting Paris. hahaha
@@Edwin-fk4yy 😂 haha I think a French kiss in France should be okay 😝😝😝😝
@@Chai_Travel yup, i even ate "french fries" in French Capital (Paris). hahaha
Actually, you can talk about religion and culture but just dont provoke or mock them. We are multiracial just respect each other.
Just respect the other :) I love it
I find Malaysia a more civilised society than the west.
Malaysia is a place where nothing makes sense, the longer you stay you begin to realise that it all makes sense and where you come from makes no sense
I love the culture that alcohol is not required to have a great time where as good food, family and friendship is is the priority.
Come here, relax, be courteous and respectful, it’s a cultural paradise
Moderate. Whatever you do in Malaysia, do it moderately.
We can talk about 3R but try not to insult / bad talking / submissive / sedition or propaganda idea... It's not too sensitive to ask until you made an insulting statement. Words of choice also important...
Thanks for your input:) have a good day 🤗
Malaysia has to continue to engage in race & religious discussion, we cannot avoid it, it is an elephant in the room. We also need a harmony law on race & religion which we do not have. It has to be progressive discussion. Recently about who is the champion of corruption, that is the wrong path for argument. Each blaming each other for the championship.
3R = race religion royalty/king. These 3 sensitive things, try to avoid in your discussion..
Great topic and I reckon the formatting/editing was awesome Chai. Great experiment and it worked well. Regarding the topic, I think it is a great idea to get it first hand from the locals what a tourist needs to do and also not to do to respect the culture especially in a SE Asian country which is so multi cultural in the first place. As expected the primary things to avoid for any discussion are Politics and Religion and the old saying is to treat those as you would expect them to treat you. Plenty of good tips there to follow as well. Brilliant work champ!! Keep them coming mate!!
Thanks Steven! Haha, it's a bit more playful than usual I guess and I'm glad you enjoyed it. The people here are living in great harmony and it's super special to see this. I think we can learn a lot from a society like this :) Thanks again champ Steven 🏆
I love your content ❤. Especially about promoting Malaysia 😅. Malaysia can be cheap, but compare to Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam, they are cheaper than us, and have less strict rules and regulation. Malaysia are more developed country, most of the people speak English, depends on which area.
Keep it up Chai ❤
Thanks! 😃 It so nice to hear you do like what I’m doing 😊 I’ll try to keep it up 🏆
We cannot talk about 3R Religion, Race , Royal but you can talk about the other 3R Recycled, Reuse, Reduce at anytime.. Just don’t get confused or else you’ll end up in Jail for nothing
Such a respectful video.
Thank you :) 🏆
As a Malaysian, the ones who make Malaysia not safe are the foreigners living here. just my honest observation
That’s sounds scary. I do not see the point you are saying this. I’m sorry you feel this ways
@@Chai_Travel there were some news that foreigners rape locals
Yup esp the illegal immigrants 😓.
Very diverse & a happy place 👌👍👋🙏
It is indeed :) big groups of people in one club with a total different view on life and religion, and still respect and live in harmony ❤️
I think kissing is ok in Malaysia, but don’t over do it. Wearing singlet is ok too, depends on where you go, KL is more open or Sabah and Sarawak. But other places in Peninsular - village might be disrespect. Talking about religion, depends, getting to know about the religion is ok, but badmouth about it is not good.
If i see the video people can have different opinion on things, some say can some say no, but i guess need to learn the basic things, not over do, respect others, etc. if you stay longer here then you know how it work in different area. So don’t stressed out about it. 😊
Haha yeah I think that’s bottom line mate. Just be respectful and enjoy:)
Malaysians have traditional morals and values.
Affection in public is widely accepted, lust is not.
That's great. It would be good for tourist as most Malaysian speak English. Anyway, I hope to see you show us how the public transportation, budget accomodations and food. ,
Thanks mate :) I’ve made already a few blogs about 6month ago in Malaysia. You might like to check out this playlist; th-cam.com/play/PLf5thCQYoyX-_JOZZ4vFfzT47uxTxwcGz.html
Welcome back Chai Travels.
All Malaysian cant talk about 3R(Race,Religious and Royal) topics.
Thank you ❤️
🎉🎉🎉❤Thanks
Thank you for watching 🙂
Hi bro..✌🏻🤠
Simple..you learn about our culture, respect us..& of couse we respect everyone who visiting 🇲🇾
Eat all you want! 😆
Haha I keep on eating 😝
To all foreigners, don't ever talk or discuss about Malaysia politics. Be polite and reasonable all the time, just an advice
👍👍👍
Avoid having heated debates about the 3Rs.
RACE, RELIGION AND ROYALTY
The weather here is so hot. Please cover up with sunscreen. Thats important too.
Good tip! Thanks :)
3R
1) RACE
2) ROYALS
3) RELIGION
Similar to the case in Thailand (Royals)
Unity in Diversity ❤
I love it ❤️
Wonderful. Thank you for this video. Are you back in KL? Welcome back to KL, Malaysia. Have fun and enjoy yourself.
Yes! Well, I was. made a quick stop to film a small KL series. I'm actually back in Chiang Mai at the moment but there will be 5 more KL video's coming up soon :)
@@Chai_Travel Wonderful. I hope that you have had a good time in KL. 😄
It was truly great again thank you :)
@@Chai_Travel Splendid. 😄
@@Chai_TravelHow about for your next video, you make video at the border Malaysia-Thailand like in Padang Besar(Perlis State), Bukit Kayu Hitam(Kedah state) & Rantau Panjang(Kelantan state)... 😊
It's Dos and Don'ts
You will be surprised it is very different in Sarawak, East Malaysia.
I’d love to go one day
I’m going to Malaysia for the first time soon and your videos have been very informative, thanks.
I have a question for you. I’m left handed, what should I not do with my left hand?
Good question. Eating food with your left had is a no go because people use this hand to wipe after going to the toilet. Also if someone is handing you something it’s better to receive it with your right hand. With this been said, if you look foreign people would not easily get offended by it :) also pointing with your point fingers is not polite (either hands). Most people point with their thumb over here. I hope it helps 🏆
Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely look like a foreigner to them. I will tie my left hand to my belt so I don’t forget. 😜
Haha yea that’s also an option 🤪 anyway have a great trip. Stay in touch
Just do as you normally wood.
Malaysians accept different cultures.
I eat with both my hands in Muslim coffee shops and food courts. It’s no problem.
Universal laws of attraction.
When you smile at someone, they smile back, when you say hello, they say hello back. This is Malaysia!!!!
actually you can talk about religion but with open minded
I like it
talk about it in an academic discussion should be alright, but NOT bad mouth or slandering any religions.
no need to talk about religion anytime, religion is personal.I love Malaysia visited so many times, but its time for me to do what I wanted before, Apply to immigrate here.
i always talked about religions with my friends which are hindus, buddha and christians. Just be respectful and prepare yourself to agree to disagree. educate yourself.
Cool :) that’s nice to hear. I think that’s a good one; be prepared to agree to disagree ❤️
I suggest you to pay a visit to PERKIM in KL to get a better picture and understanding between Religion Race and Culture. And the Royalty is ( Malay - race and born Muslim - religion ).
Thanks for your input 😁🏆

We say Alhamdulillah - All Praises Be to Allah for speaking the Truth by ( quoting His Messages ).
Also, just a final elaboration, which I overlooked to add :
That He did create in pairs : male and female
And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities of ( Sodom and Gomorrah)
So that ( ruins unknown) have covered them up
This is a Warner, of the ( series of) Warners of old !
Najm or the Star : 45 53 55 56, *Qur'an*
Allah sets forth a Parable, a city enjoying security and quiet, abundantly supplied with Sustenance from every place : yet was it ungrateful for the favours of Allah :
So Allah made it taste of hunger and terror ( in extremes) ( closing in on it) like a garment ( from every side), because of the ( evi) l which ( its people) wrought.
Nahl or the Bee : 112, *Qur'an*
And fear tumult or oppression, which affecteth not ( in particular only) those of you who do wrong : and know that Allah is strict in punishment.
Anfal or Spoils of War : 25, *Qur'an*
So the Muslim Believer has verily good enough reasons to forbid this evil ( LGBTQi).
Make ye no excuses : ye have rejected Faith ( after) ye had accepted it.
Tauba or Repentance : 66, *Qur'an*
These would be the Muslim in physical appearance,
but they are ( Unbelievers at heart and have rejected Faith).
Outward appearance : Muslim
Inward ( heart) : Rejecters of Allah 's Laws n Regulations.
When it is said to them : " Come to what Allah hath revealed, and to the Apostle" : thou seest the Hypocrites avert their faces from thee in disgust.
Nisaa or Women : 61, *Qur'an*
The above is just a gist of the Book.
You could also Google As Syura : verse 7 to know what is the purpose of the Muslim believer.
Finally :
Allah created some of you Unbelievers, and some of you Believers.
Taghabun or Loss n Gain : 2, *Qur'an*
I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.
Adzariyat or the Winds that Scatter : 56, *Qur'an*
May Allah Almighty give you a better understanding of Islam and lead you to His Straight Way.
Thank you for reading.

Why Malaysia keep ethnicities separate?
So that we are able to preserve our linguistic & cultural heritage. Besides, being Malaysian is not an ethnicity it's a nationality. So if you are born from a particular ethnicity you must be able to preserve your cultural identity. Besides, Malays, Chinese & Indians are phenotypically different from each other, so it's important to acknowledge our differences so that we can embrace the differences & find similarities. Ultimately, we are all Malaysians.✌️
99% aseans don't kiss in public regardless of their faith or race even if they are husband and wife.
As for the clothing, yes, there is a state that are more stric about dressing.
wow, all the comments here saying what not to do in Malaysia is exactly what Matty Healy did in KL lol.
Healy kissed a male bandmate onstage . Not permitted .
1. No Kissing in public
2. No Butt Naked in changing/locker room
3. Dont openly talk or act that display your same sex relation between you and your partner (Malaysian generally respect your rights as long you dont do it in public)
4. No touching between men and women if they are Muslim including hand shake
You can talk every topics under the sun. Just dont touch on 3R(religion, race, royals) esp if its condemning & insulting.✌
3:25 is there a grain of rice on his lip?😂

That Indian uncle just had his lunch that why he looks happy.
If you listen to what the uncle says, you will be in trouble. He is just one happy man. After lunch? Are you sure?
4 Thing You Should Avoid Talking In Malaysia Is 3R And Malay And Bumiputera Privillege
*Races
*Religious
*Royalty
*Privillege
Because Malaysia Not Multiracial Country But Multi Etnic,Multi Language,Multi Religious Country Where,And Which Country Allow Minority To Speak They Indigenous Language And Do Not Speak National Language Fluently Only It Only Happen In Malaysia
Thanks for that Sayfolman
In short, Malaysia has a Legalised Apartheid System.
In term of clothing, majority Malaysians are still offended to people over-exposing themselves (dress-wise), but out of respect most will just look away.
In Malaysia we believe in mutual respect. You respect us, we respect you.
Think of the children - what's the point of avoiding your children watching xx galleries on the internet when they can see it walking and jiggling around KL. No brainer.
Most female foreigners do not know, it is a no no for braless. They prefer walking around braless under their clothes which is a norm in their country but not in Malaysia. Braless is frowned upon but there exception if you go to a club, disco, bar, pub, etc.
@@kayellai5278 Yes you are right about pubs, clubs etc. Thank you. I meant public places where there are children around.
Malaysia is family culture.. children are everywhere.. here we take them even going shopping for groceries... So we dont want them to expose to something they are not suppose to as a child like french kissing or women's boobs..
Wear singlet and short pants absolutly no problem in malaysia. Wearing bikini in supermarket or pasar malam is something not allowed.. wearing bikini at the beach, no problemo!..
Simple anology, behave how you would want others to behave in your country, simple as that
Avoid 3R:
1.Royalty
2.Religion.
3.Race.
You can't wear shorts and singlets walking around in east coast of West M'sia especially Kelantan, Trengganu let alone bikinis for ladies. You will get into trouble with syariah law (Muslim law). You can't eat pork, drink beer in front of Muslim people as many westerners are not aware of. The religious law is very much stricter than in the middle east. There's not really democratic value to talk about religion, politic, race to incite discontent that can lead you in detention under internal security act section bla bla bla like in the West. Also if you are courting with someone in a public place, you can be searched and even charged under syariah law if one party is a Muslim.
you must have never been to the beaches in Terengganu 🤣
Men don't wear tight (stretch trousers) without underwear.
Uh oh. Robin Hood, take note please..
🤔🤣
😂😂😂
Chai I would like to correct some of the comments by our fellow Malaysians!
That girl is blur ! You can wear almost anything you want in the city like KL, Penang ,JB etc but not in kampung areas of certain states !
And who says you cannot talk politics nowadays in Malaysia ? Only religion topics are best avoided !
Thanks for that :) I do appreciate all the input 😊 have a beautiful weekend
Thank you Chai for loving Malaysia 😊 Malaysia really has a lot to offer tourists , just that the relevant authorities here are doing a sub standard job on promoting it !!!!!!!!!!
We have our two neighbouring countries Thailand and Singapore as role models on how to promote tourism to the world , and yet the authorities here are clueless about it !
Your videos on Malaysia alone are doing a better job on promoting Malaysia than our tourism ministry !!!
Do you agree with me Malaysians ?????
So thank you again Chai
Nice video but what do you by whats the difference between Malay and Malaysian Chinese? Because they are totally different, culture and genetic wise
Thanks :) Yrs, I wanted to explain what the difference are to people who never been to Malaysia or to people who don’t know a lot about Malaysia.
@@Chai_Travel oh i get it, the term… yeah people familiar with Black American, White Americans… so when there are Malaysian Chinese or Malaysian Indian, they have no idea what that is.. is like they have no clue that Malaysian is a nationality and everyone regardless of race can become the citizens
Why avoid talking? If don't talk, how to understand?
Always keep talking :)
I want add 1 thing dont talk about Sultan or king in malaysia avoid that.
Ow yeah! Good one :)
Dun say is really too cheap if divided by 3.4
Lol
Do not mention u support LGBT rights if u do, you can get arrested in Malaysia for that.
Get arrested for that? That’s a shame. In my country it’s okay to have any sexuality and a lot of people can be and feel what they wanna be and feel.
You can support it, discuss about it, and interview others opinion. Try to avoid pushing this agenda to the public as it actually against the Islamic law. You will only get into trouble if you openly demand the government support LGBT rights. As for Non Muslim here, we usually respect our Muslim friends and not pushing agenda. Do take note WOKE CULTURE is a no to both Muslim and non Muslim.
Nah, you don’t get arrested for everything about that. We have lgbtq community in Malaysia. They do exist though they are frowned upon. As long as you keep it to yourself and don’t shove your sexual identity into anyone’s throat, it’s fine. If you try to make it a big human right issue and trying to be a social justice warrior harping about it on the street, you’d most likely end up in jail.
@@Chai_Travel You won't get arrested. In KL, you can be whatever you want, no one will care or have a problem with you. It'll only be a problem if you tried to force that on someone else. As someone mentioned in the video, "You respect me, I respect you."
@@Chai_Travel he or she was referring to "DO NOT" openly discuss and support LGBT. You may talk about it in private with your friends. Recently a UK Band challenged the LAW during a concert and the ENTIRE concert had to be cancelled.

Don't talk about Race royal religion.
The only religion you are best not to speak about is islam and do not hand people money with your Left hand. Having sexual relationships with a person your not married too is only against the Law if one of them is muslim as this is called Kalwat in Malay, translation, Close proximity.
Homosexuality is strictly Haram, forbidden, though not for Lesbians...Go figure that one out...
All people in America are Americans, whether they are of European, African, Asian or Middle Eastern heritage so the USA is much more multicultural than Malaysia so why are people so excited about that in Malaysia but not in America.
