- Super Mario Odyssey is one of if not THE best game in the super mario series. One major reason for that is because of the game’s 52 captures, which essentially act as power-ups for super mario odyssey. However, with capture ranging from a goomba, cactus, hammer bro, and even a T-Rex, some were bound to be worse than others. So join me today as I rank all 52 captures in super mario odyssey!

I am fine with that as they act the same BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOWSER SPARKPILOT. IT CONTROLS DIFFERENTLY THAN BOTH BOWSER AND THE NORMAL SPARKPILOT SO IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AS IT'S OWN CAPTURE. Literally how dares he 😤🤬
@@Chaotic_Overlord umm ackshually, bowser spark pylon is not captured by throwing Cappy on it, you just enter it as bowser so it cannot be considered a capture🤓
@@bend4456 Uhm actually tecnicaly Bowser Is still captured and Mario normally can't enter a sparkpilot without cappy but Bowser can implying that bowser's Is some sort of mesh of captures 🤓
Uhm akqueshuhshlee, we can see that when Bowser jumped into it, it stayed looking like Bowser, making this a BOWSER capture, not a Mario capture. This clearly means the list only includes Mario captures and not captures by anyone else. 🤓🤓🤓🐿️🤓

Fun fact: The Snow Kingdom Cheep Cheep has one special ability: It survives in ice water. If you modify the game to get normal Cheep Cheeps into ice water, they just die.

@@frauleinzuckerguss1906 actually now that I think of it, the NPC for getting the snow cheep cheep in the lake tells you (or rather, discovers) that it can swim in cold waters. But this isn't used since the regular cheep cheep and the snowy one are never in the same kingdom.

@@bcsbernard I think eye (2) has a slight edge over eye (1) because the way the highlight shines really adds a lot to Mario's look, not sure who he would be without it.

@@MadisonEdits943 thats eye 2's charm. it sits in the backround, not drawing attention to itself, but still leaving you feeling its absence when you remove it, ven if you don't know why at first.
One of my absolute favorite parts of the Bowser and Pokio is their ability to stall mid-air by shaking the controller. I'm surprised you didn't go into it, but that little bit of mid-air movement is really key to these captures feeling good, at least in my opinion. It feels so fluid to use the Pokio because of this stall, in my opinion.
You know, now that I think about it, the charging chuck would make a great base moveset for a 3d Wario game.

I think my favourite thing about the Pokio is the secret spin move from shaking the controller because the game doesn't even tell you about it.

@@joostine3720 if you do it in the air, you get a little boost. If you do it while flicking, you launch yourself way further. If you do it while attacking on the ground, you do a really helpful spin-poke attack.
It's pretty much the closest we'll get to the Star Spin from Galaxy again and I love it for that

For me I would have placed the letters slightly higher, because there’s a glitch with it that lets you get 99999 jumps in the jump rope minigame without even touching your controller
The games been out for like 6 years and for some reason has never been patched. It probably never will be.

Fun fact, Chain Chomps slowly move forward in 1.0.0 of super Mario Odyssey which means you can play Cascade as a chain chomp
I’m so happy to see the Pokio at the top. It’s my personal favorite as well - climbing walls is really fun, and poking enemies to death is really damn satisfying.

Reminder: since sherm is based on the m4 sherman tank, which is named after General sherman famous for burning atlanta during the Civil War. We can say that sherm is the only mario character to be in WWII and the civil war

I love Mario Odyssey, It is my third favorite videogame of all time, the first being Minecraft, followed closely by Mario Maker 2. I love listening to you talk about Mario Odyssey.
great list! disagree on a few points (i dont really like the pokio that much, i find it too hard to control) but love the way you present this. my favorite capture is probably the trex, just bc getting to run thru blocks without a care in the world is absolutely incredible. gushen and uproot have great movement and great puzzles but at the end of the day i just wanna be a big dino and destroy everything. plus dino skip is fun as hell

What a good ranking. Even though I haven’t played SMO in a while (didn’t purchase in 2017 due to not having the switch nor wasn’t aware it existed) that ranking was overdue, thank you for expressing your own thoughts about the main gimmick of SMO, captures!

Why did odyssey central choose the bowser statue as the 48th moon? Let’s take a deeper dive. While odyssey ranked the captures he came across the bowser statue, and put it at 48, and uses a video to explain why. The video displays cool bowser dancing to electrodrome, a popular song from mario kart 8. This brings me to believe that there are only two options why he chose the bowser statue at 48, either he was comparing the bowser statue to cool bowser or he was describing it as cool by showing a cool bowser as a symbol of the bowser statues coolness. I lean towards odyssey thinking the bowser statue is cool and I think he used cool bowser on a more symbolic level. In order to understand why we need to take a deeper dive. In order to understand why I believe he finds the bowser statue cool rather than it being a reminder of cool bowser, we need to look at the cool bowser video. In the video, we see a kid playing with a bowser plush, referring to it as “cool bowser” and then proceeding to make cool bowser dance. This is significant since it shows how lacking cool bowser truly is. It is a great video, but I doubt odyssey finds it great to the point he wants to put a bowser related object in front of a rock and a taxi, two of the previous captures which odyssey ranked lower. Odyssey must have thought the bowser statue is cool, since thats what the bowser statue stands for. Since he thought it was cool, he used a video of cool bowser to symbolize how cool the bowser statue is. For all the reasons listed above, I must conclude that odyssey chose to put the bowser statue at 48 because he thought it was cool, not because it was cool bowser related.

I always loved Bowser so controlling him in a mainline game was great and I think there should be a game where Bowser isn’t the villain and this type of gameplay is fleshed out

As an parabones fan it makes me SO sad it is used such an little amount in the final game and seeing team paragoomba be able to roam freely around cap and take a point for the team I was looking everywhere after finishing the dark side hoping I could use parabones somewhere like darker but at least I found the bowser's kingdom parabones moon and finally I was somewhat pleased
OMG I literally just re bought Super Mario Odyssey today after I had to sell it along with all my other switch games and my switch a year ago due to needing money because of financial hardships. Anyway I was just about to play it again but I'm gonna watch this video first to get me extra hyped. Thanks man you are a lifesaver

Playing as bowser was such an exiting moment for me
the only placement i disagree with is the letters because you didnt consider the letter glitch (which when you do the letters are some of the funnest captures in the game) but honestly i get why you wouldnt judge it based off of a glitch lol
