I wish there were more characters like shy guy and yoshi who are able to change color. Toad, koopa, and the inklings are the easiest options, or just giving characters more variants like in smash is good enough

I'm actually theorizing that they're going to be adding several characters and items in, while also creating an "Echo" system of character selection with the additional characters. I think they want this to be as big as Tour, making it as wild and engaging as ever. Some of the items from Tour are perfect for 8 Deluxe, such as the cannons and ice flower. If you really want that many Peach's, then you can feel free to navigate through a sub menu between Peach, Rose Gold Peach, Cat Peach, SNES Peach, Paper Peach, Dr. Peach, Baby Peach, Dress Peach, and Racer Jumpsuit Peach. Did I miss any? I'm sure I did.
6:18 Petey was actually a very popular and anticipated character to return in the tour community right behind Kamek being added. So I don't think it's that unlikely to see him return again in the future.
Regular Donkey Kong was supposed to be in the original Super Mario Kart, but it was difficult to see the character and distinguish him from the track. That’s why he was replaced by DK Junior, since he has an easy to see white shirt.

Due to Namco losing the license for her, they have been replacing Ms Pac-Man with the new character Pac-Mom in all rereleases of Pac-Man games. While Pac-Mom has a small chance to be added, Ms Pac-Man will never be added. This also means no MarioKart can ever have every previous character return.

Eventually, GCC ceased to exist and a fourth company, AtGames, acquired the rights to Ms Pac-Man. So the ownership by Namco of Ms Pac-Man was always blurry from the start. With Nintendo having previously partnered with different companies to add characters to their games like in Smash, they could technically reach a deal with AtGames to use Ms Pac-Man, but it would seem unlikely. There just isn't the same interest to add her in MK as there was to add, say, Sonic, Snake or Minecraft characters in Smash

Seeing any of the WarioWare characters make an appearance in a Mario Kart game would be a blessing. If DK characters can get into Mario spin-offs, than I don't see why Wario can't get the same treatment.
Technically, the closest thing to any WarioWare rep in Mario Kart is with Ninja Hideaway. The flags have Wario's emblem on them and since there are ninjas that know Wario personally (Kat & Ana), it is a possibility that Ninja Hideaway is set in Diamond City.

I actually kinda like Wiggler because it felt like it was the first time they tried to make a Mario Kart character standout a bit with the gimmick of it getting angry for a short while after getting hit. Unfortunately it's really hard to see a Wiggler on a bike so I feel like the only Wiggler's will see in 8 are the ones on Maple Treeway and the ones all the Waluigis ride online.
for the record, nabbit wasn’t *just* in NSMBU and NSLU, although those are definitely his main appearances. he’s also appeared in mario & luigi paper jam as well as a couple sports titles. so he’s definitely not as obscure as some might think and he probably has a decent chance. really enjoyable video by the way :)
2:00 Donkey Kong Jr. is, canonically, the Donkey Kong of today (the one with the tie). DK Jr's father is now known as Cranky Kong. That's why DK Jr is no longer seen. He grew up.
Something to note is that there are some characters that are rumoured or teased to be in Tour due to the badges that you get in tour. Now this is not to say they are coming but it’s to say they are actually coming but they might have a higher chance, these includes the return of the Honey Queen and the new drivers potentially being Luma, Piranha Plant & Boo but you may never know. One more that could potentially come is Spike due to his icon being featured on advertisement in Bangkok Rush.
My prediction is there's gonna be one character per every course announced. Birdo was announced when there was a Yoshi's Island track, so that may mean Petey could be announced with a Piranha Plant track, Diddy and Funky could come back with a DK track as well
My own thoughts on all the characters: The DK Crew: All very likely, specifically in the order of Diddy, then Funky and Dixie at the same time, then DK Jr (who I could've sworn was in a trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie). Birdo: Third-most-likely, behind only Diddy and Pauline. Paratroopa: A bit of a filler character, but the original game's DLC drivers were already half filler. Petey Piranha: You say that he's too big, yet look at King Boo in every non-Mario Kart game. And then look at Petey in Tour. R.O.B.: Fairly unlikely, unless we start doing base MK8-style DLC packs again. Honey Queen: No. Unless we need to fill a slot in specifically a Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack, or if we're making Mario Kart Ultimate. Wiggler: They're funny put them back in Pac-Man: Bandai Namco is already in charge of making the games. Just do it already Nintendo you cowards. Ms. Pac-Man: Too much legal shenanigans in the way, unless you really wanna put in "Pac-Mom". Blinky: Certainly a cool pick, but there's other characters I'd rather have. Mametchi: Not even a course to their name. Don't even bother. Don-Chan: You severely underestimate the popularity of Taiko no Tatsujin, my good sir. Still probably won't happen unless we do a full Arcade GP DLC pack, but if it does, Don-Chan is totally getting in. Robo Mario: You forgot him, heathen. A very good filler character in the same vein as Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Dry Bowser. Hammer Bro: Call me crazy, but we're probably gonna get Hammer Bro as part of a costume DLC to show off what it does by having four Bros in one slot. Kamek: He was planned for 64 and cut, then planned for 8DX and cut. Do this man a solid, Ninty. Monty Mole: More likely than Wiggler by merit of already being in Mario Kart Tour. Pauline: She's basically the new Rosalina in terms of marketing. Nintendo just needs to announce the very premise of new characters and her inclusion will be implied. Peachette: Another filler character to pad out DLC. Moving on... Captain Toad: Ibid. Nabbit: Do it. The rest of the Tour cast because I am tired: Yeah sure why not
I agree with most of this. The rest of the tour cast? I mean, Poochy, KBB, Chargin, Nabbit, hell yeah. But the clones? Nawwwwww. Also Honey Queen is good. I hate saying it all the time, but I like her, and I see she’s so underappreciated. And it’s all. Because. Some. Purple. Dude. Wasn’t. In. The. Roster. I’d love to put her in. I personally would like to see Zelda and Ganondorf, but with Tears of the Kingdom having now been released, I think their window has passed. Then again Link is in the game, we have a Hyrule track and it wouldn't be too hard to add another one...
Honestly I think all characters should get some sort of color swaps like in Smash Bros. Super easy to do and helps with variety and if people want to choose the same characters. And having some more in depth costumes like para-troopa and para dry bones would be awesome as well, tho less likely.
I don't think all characters. That's too much and would take away from quality. A lot of characters could have them though, like Koopa Troopa, Mario, Luigi, etc.
Kamek, Funky Kong, Diddy Kong, Birdo (now here). If we're going out of Mario, then Pokemon characters would be nice too. And for alternates, Koopa and Toad are just givens. For Koopa, you can put in the Hammer Bros etc.
One character I’ve always wanted to see in mario kart or even smash bros is the rabbids. If you’ve ever played the rabbids plus mario spin off you’ll know the rabbids have some pretty interesting personalities. In the newest rabbids plus mario game they even have their own unique voices and it would just be so cool to play as them
With birdo being added in the wave 4 of the booster course pass and along with other characters being added in future waves there a really good chance these cut characters could be added back in
It's so funny that coming back to this video after wave 5 we have some 3ds level of random characters coming back. Not only because of wiggler, but like Kamek and Petey before Funky and Diddy is downright shocking

Birdo is confirmed, which made my day. Put in the remaining Kongs and R.O.B. too and I will relent that MK8 has a solid roster. I'm rather surprised they never tried adding Magikoopa though, given he was planned for Mario Kart 64.
I agree with pretty much everything you said here, great video. Only thing I'd point out is that I don't really think there's any chance that Funky comes to the game without Diddy. As iconic as Funky is to the franchise, Diddy has to be the second rep after DK (and Funky could obviously come too). Another thing to note about Diddy and Birdo specifically is that both of them sort of started to fall off the spinoff face of the earth during the Wii U era, which of course is when MK8 first released, and only recently on the Switch made a resurgence in them. During the initial reveal trailer for Tour, they made a point to show Diddy as pretty much the final returning character of the trailer, almost as if they were acknowledging his glaring absence in MK8D and saving him for last as a big reveal. They sort of treated Birdo's return similarly later on when she was added. I think those two are head and shoulders above any other character coming to MK8D, alongside Pauline. As much as I love Funky, outside of Smash, Nintendo themselves have never really leaned much into fanservice like that when it comes to their rosters. I do still think he'd be likely since he made it into Tour relatively early on, but I don't think he's as much of a shoo-in as you think he is.
My Boi e. Gadd needs to come to mario kart. Nintendo literally quickly added the loogis mansion course and that is all the love the loogis mansion series got in mario kart. (Besides the one kart in tour)
There is a possible chance with an update for more characters and coustumes. Just like with possible new items coming later thanks to the custom item feature, it's a leak that could be big wonders!
This video is cool and all, but why are we just assuming Nintendo is adding ANY new characters? All they’re adding is new tracks from now on, so I don’t think they’re ever adding new characters again. This video would make sense if maybe for example, Nintendo puts out a post saying “New Mario Kart 8 characters will be releasing in 10 days.” Or something of the sort.

18:29 Oh the irony when the joke character you mentioned technically has made it in as the first new character (since Birdo has color variations like Yoshi and Shy Guy does). But to be honest, my most wanted characters are in fact Wiggler and Paratroopa. Wiggler for his unique body shape with the extra arms and all (and turning mad red when hit by an item or ending in a low position), and Paratroopa for nostalgia due to that pair being my go-to in Double Dash after Yoshi alienated me. In fact, I kind of wish Paratroopa made it in over Koopa Troopa. Oh, and as for what makes a character a skin vs unique character in 8 Deluxe is due to if the character has unique animations or not (Tanooki and Metal both have different animations from regular Mario so they’re unique characters for instance), so Paratroopa would have to be an unique character in order to incorporate his wings into his animations. Edit: Well, I’d like Kamek over either probably but still. Also would like a regular Piranha Plant over Petey because I like the idea of various vines working the controls of the cart (with maybe a third popping up to carry and item, allowing for two vines to stay on the wheel), and because I always hated Petey’s underwear/diaper thing he has. I’d also _really_ like to have karts from older MK games added to 8 Deluxe too.

Birdo got added in wave 4, and i think pauline and diddy kong are just about garunteed. after that the next most likely id say is funky kong. for the last 2 spots i think its a little more open, i personally would like to see ROB, and i think kamek would be a cool addition, but id also be ok with someone like wiggler, hammer bro, or petey piranha
Ms. Pac-Man is actually more of a full impossibility at this point, with her rights being tied up by AtGames. It's wild, she was even removed from the recent Pac-Man World remake.
Did you know: Donkey Kong Jr. was actually supposed to be DK's partner in Double Dash, and actually had a 3D model for it? Unfortunately this was scrapped in favour of Diddy Kong, and his 3D model was never seen again. You also didn't mention how E. Gadd was supposed to be in DS instead of Dry Bones.
Actually, according to gaming historians latest video, the reason Donkey Kong Jr. was in Super Mario kart over Donkey Kong is because he’s more recognizable from the back.

One character I wouldn’t mind seeing is Kamek. He was apparently going to be in Mario Kart 64, so seeing him wouldn’t be too weird.
Incidentally, he's been a character in Tour for a while now, so there already a precedent there.

I really hope Kamek makes into a later Mario Kart game (Tour notwithstanding), my boy just can’t catch a break.
My own thoughts on all the characters:
The DK Crew:
All very likely, specifically in the order of Diddy, then Funky and Dixie at the same time, then DK Jr (who I could've sworn was in a trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie).
Birdo:
Third-most-likely, behind only Diddy and Pauline.
Paratroopa:
A bit of a filler character, but the original game's DLC drivers were already half filler.
Petey Piranha:
You say that he's too big, yet look at King Boo in every non-Mario Kart game. And then look at Petey in Tour.
R.O.B.:
Fairly unlikely, unless we start doing base MK8-style DLC packs again.
Honey Queen:
No. Unless we need to fill a slot in specifically a Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack, or if we're making Mario Kart Ultimate.
Wiggler:
They're funny put them back in
Pac-Man:
Bandai Namco is already in charge of making the games. Just do it already Nintendo you cowards.
Ms. Pac-Man:
Too much legal shenanigans in the way, unless you really wanna put in "Pac-Mom".
Blinky:
Certainly a cool pick, but there's other characters I'd rather have.
Mametchi:
Not even a course to their name. Don't even bother.
Don-Chan:
You severely underestimate the popularity of Taiko no Tatsujin, my good sir. Still probably won't happen unless we do a full Arcade GP DLC pack, but if it does, Don-Chan is totally getting in.
Robo Mario:
You forgot him, heathen. A very good filler character in the same vein as Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Dry Bowser.
Hammer Bro:
Call me crazy, but we're probably gonna get Hammer Bro as part of a costume DLC to show off what it does by having four Bros in one slot.
Kamek:
He was planned for 64 and cut, then planned for 8DX and cut. Do this man a solid, Ninty.
Monty Mole:
More likely than Wiggler by merit of already being in Mario Kart Tour.
Pauline:
She's basically the new Rosalina in terms of marketing. Nintendo just needs to announce the very premise of new characters and her inclusion will be implied.
Peachette:
Another filler character to pad out DLC. Moving on...
Captain Toad:
Ibid.
Nabbit:
Do it.

I personally would like to see Zelda and Ganondorf, but with Tears of the Kingdom having now been released, I think their window has passed. Then again Link is in the game, we have a Hyrule track and it wouldn't be too hard to add another one...
Honestly I think all characters should get some sort of color swaps like in Smash Bros. Super easy to do and helps with variety and if people want to choose the same characters. And having some more in depth costumes like para-troopa and para dry bones would be awesome as well, tho less likely.
I don't think all characters. That's too much and would take away from quality. A lot of characters could have them though, like Koopa Troopa, Mario, Luigi, etc.

And for alternates, Koopa and Toad are just givens. For Koopa, you can put in the Hammer Bros etc.
One character I’ve always wanted to see in mario kart or even smash bros is the rabbids. If you’ve ever played the rabbids plus mario spin off you’ll know the rabbids have some pretty interesting personalities. In the newest rabbids plus mario game they even have their own unique voices and it would just be so cool to play as them

Birdo is confirmed, which made my day. Put in the remaining Kongs and R.O.B. too and I will relent that MK8 has a solid roster.
I'm rather surprised they never tried adding Magikoopa though, given he was planned for Mario Kart 64.
There's emblems for Kamek in 8 suggesting they were gonna try adding him there... but then they didn't.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here, great video. Only thing I'd point out is that I don't really think there's any chance that Funky comes to the game without Diddy. As iconic as Funky is to the franchise, Diddy has to be the second rep after DK (and Funky could obviously come too).
Another thing to note about Diddy and Birdo specifically is that both of them sort of started to fall off the spinoff face of the earth during the Wii U era, which of course is when MK8 first released, and only recently on the Switch made a resurgence in them. During the initial reveal trailer for Tour, they made a point to show Diddy as pretty much the final returning character of the trailer, almost as if they were acknowledging his glaring absence in MK8D and saving him for last as a big reveal. They sort of treated Birdo's return similarly later on when she was added. I think those two are head and shoulders above any other character coming to MK8D, alongside Pauline. As much as I love Funky, outside of Smash, Nintendo themselves have never really leaned much into fanservice like that when it comes to their rosters. I do still think he'd be likely since he made it into Tour relatively early on, but I don't think he's as much of a shoo-in as you think he is.
My Boi e. Gadd needs to come to mario kart. Nintendo literally quickly added the loogis mansion course and that is all the love the loogis mansion series got in mario kart. (Besides the one kart in tour)

This video is cool and all, but why are we just assuming Nintendo is adding ANY new characters? All they’re adding is new tracks from now on, so I don’t think they’re ever adding new characters again. This video would make sense if maybe for example, Nintendo puts out a post saying “New Mario Kart 8 characters will be releasing in 10 days.” Or something of the sort.

It would be so amazing if Nintendo added every character from Mario kart tour to Mario kart 8 deluxe. I know that’s probably not gonna happen but I can dream
18:29 Oh the irony when the joke character you mentioned technically has made it in as the first new character (since Birdo has color variations like Yoshi and Shy Guy does).
But to be honest, my most wanted characters are in fact Wiggler and Paratroopa. Wiggler for his unique body shape with the extra arms and all (and turning mad red when hit by an item or ending in a low position), and Paratroopa for nostalgia due to that pair being my go-to in Double Dash after Yoshi alienated me. In fact, I kind of wish Paratroopa made it in over Koopa Troopa.
Oh, and as for what makes a character a skin vs unique character in 8 Deluxe is due to if the character has unique animations or not (Tanooki and Metal both have different animations from regular Mario so they’re unique characters for instance), so Paratroopa would have to be an unique character in order to incorporate his wings into his animations.
Edit: Well, I’d like Kamek over either probably but still. Also would like a regular Piranha Plant over Petey because I like the idea of various vines working the controls of the cart (with maybe a third popping up to carry and item, allowing for two vines to stay on the wheel), and because I always hated Petey’s underwear/diaper thing he has.
I’d also _really_ like to have karts from older MK games added to 8 Deluxe too.

“without a single honey queen fan in sight” and so i step in! she was such a random & quirky addition and although i doubt she’ll be coming back anytime soon (or at all), it would be hilarious and make me so happy to see her on the roster again.

Ms. Pac-Man is actually more of a full impossibility at this point, with her rights being tied up by AtGames. It's wild, she was even removed from the recent Pac-Man World remake.
