Some bank robbers even go completely unnoticed. I've read a ton about a group of notorious bank robbers who were never caught for over 40 years. They all just died peacefully away from trouble after stealing millions. Its honestly incredible how some robbers think of getaway plans that are absolutely genius that they pretty much guarantee you're never getting caught. I love reading about stuff like that.

Deterence is the best tool for the government. Anything else barely works such as jails, prison, and actual war. Thats why we spend so much in weapons we never use.(nukes)

I've worked at credit unions (basically a bank) for over a decade and 99% of our robberies are a verbal demand or a note passed to the teller with no weapon involved. I have seen a better costume though! We once had a guy do a robbery in full Darth Vader costume. Helmet and all. Also we had a guy use the ATM outside as a mirror to put on his mask and gloves so we got excellent shots of his face. It's more common than you think and normally very boring, but occasionally funny!
Imagine walking to a bank and just saying “hey give me $3000” … and they just comply. No threats, just asking nicely. Is that technically robbery or just a gift from a bank?
I remember there was a news story where a teller was like “where’s your weapon” and the robber didn’t have one and the teller told him to f off. He stopped a robbery but got in trouble for not following orders
Tellers are instructed to just hand over the money and comply, so most bank robberies occur like this. If they don't use a weapon, it's typically a lighter sentence as well. Edit: as soon as I posted this, he said the exact same thing in the video. I guess I should watch the whole thing before commenting.

Teller here, he’s absolutely right, you have to comply. They’ve basically taught tellers “If you think there’s even a smell of robbery, screw the company worry about yourself”. You have no obligation to resist an attempted robbery, whether they’ve got a gun or just their hands.

I’ve known people who have worked at bank tellers, and I work retail, and we are always taught that no amount of money is worth your life. Let the cops and cameras do the crime stopping, just give them what they want because you never know if they have a weapon or an accomplice with a weapon.

I've heard a lot of bank robberies are just people walking in and handing over a note that says something like, "don't make a scene, fill this bag with money, I have a gun." Bank employees, like many store employees, are instructed to simply comply. The organization can usually recover the stolen goods later.

Actually in real life the “sci-fi” red lasers you have to back flip and stand on one hand to get through are actually very old they don’t use infrared laser beams anymore they were a thing like 30 years ago but they were to easy to see/spray chemicals to see them and dodge them, they now use a mix of heat and chemical sensors that activate a wireless invisible connection to another sensor, this means there’s no way to make the sensors visible without setting them off and theres no alarm that can be heard by the trespasser the alarm sounds in a security office nearby where a team with automatic weapons will be notified as soon as someone/something disrupts the sensor to sensor connection or tries to spray chemicals to see any sensors, this is much more effective as even if you know where the sensors are or can see the sensors you would’ve had to have taken out the security teams both on the property and off site waiting for a alarm to sound before being able to get past them… this also means the sensors are placed like diagonal lines if you could see them they would look like a multiple staircases in front of you that even the best acrobatics professional couldn’t get past without hitting them. Basically places like large casino’s, government/mega banks, and government buildings use systems like this and it makes things like ocean 11 impossible in modern days unless you can somehow hack into the system without being detected by the 10 or so IT professional white hat hackers monitoring the system 24/7 for any invasion into the system.. large scale bank robberies are a thing of the past you can rob small banks but the loses are so minimal to the bank that you’re gonna need to rob like 50 of them to be “set for life” and by the time you get to the 3rd or 4th bank they already know a bank robber is out there and have undercover police waiting at all locations that even might be hit…. So yer good luck if you want to rob banks in 2022 unless you can survive off the 50k or so for the rest of your life that you might get if you take everything out the bank

I can imagine a scenario where the idea is to give in to demands because you never know if the person has a weapon hidden from you and refusing will result in you getting immediately killed by someone who is potentially completely unhinged.
It makes the most sense, ironically, to comply even if there's no threat since the weapon never gets drawn. You don't have the chance of anyone getting injured when there's no weapon involved, there's no panic, and also it is psychologically far less damaging to the bank teller. And the outcome where the FDIC is concerned is always the same

As someone who was trained in a German Bank. I can say that for us standard protocol was, if someone demands money and is armed or actively threatening us and we think that they could hurt us before we could alarm coworkers, we are instructed to just give it to them no further real questions asked and if we cant while he looks at us, the as soon as he leaves or turns around to sound the alarm. But even that isnt needed. Most banks dont even have cash anymore so we give them a card to go to the ATM with and they can get. (If i remember right back in my time) like 2000 Euro every 5 minutes from that ATM. Meaning most get 2k and then leg it because the moment that card is unlocked by us at the counter to enable them to even get money the silent alarm is also sounded even if we don't press the silent alarm. So ye we are all instructed to just give them money. Would end up way more costly for the bank if an employee resisted and ended up injured.
The only time I have ever heard of someone robbing a bank was by dressing nice and walking in like they were supposed to be there. They would wait for the vault to be opened, then walk in and out while acting professional. If you act like you're supposed to be there, then a lot of people just believe you. The issue is that cameras exist. So this man was caught later after they discovered his identity...

My mom was a bank teller for 10 years, in most local branches they don't have more than 10,000$ at any given time. If you want more than that you have to ask for money to be shipped in in advance. So bank robbery doesn't actually get you that much money, infact it'd probably be more lucrative to rob gas stations, fast food restaurants, and other places where you pay in cash instead of credit cards.
It was probably hard for Mr.Incredible to pay for Violet's college tuition that he ended up going down this path to do so, what a downgrade of character development from our fallen hero.
He wore an incredible shirt and did something incredible. Other bank robbers would come in wearing balaclavas, gloves and a getaway vehicle outside and police wouldn't take long to track them. But this dude just came wearing cheap gas station shades demanded money and walks out and somehow he's nowhere to be found.
There is a policy in every private bank to give over money at the slightest demand, like Charlie said, the banks have insurance to cover these costs. There was an AMA on reddit of an alleged serial bank robber who had done it for 10~ years and never been caught. he said: 1. he never went to the same bank twice 2. he always wore an identifying piece of clothing or marked his truck with something identifying (like wearing thick glasses or a safety vest, and then just taking them off after the robbery. He said he assumed that 95% of the time, the teller would fall for his bait identifier. (This is probably the incredibles t-shirt or the sunglasses in the case of this guy, as they're two pieces of his appearence that stand out. He's doing that intentionally so when somebody calls the cops saying the bank was robbed by a guy in an inredibles t-shirt, he will have already changed clothes)) 3. EVERY SINGLE TIME this guy preformed a robbery, he just walked into the bank and slid a note to the teller with his demands. Something like "I am demanding xyz amount of money in an envelope, non-negotiable. Do not panic." he said he avoided making eye-contact with the teller, and once he saw the envelope he would grab it and go. He said that nobody EVER tried to detain him in 10+ years of preforming these robberies, because of how they're instructed to comply and press a panic button or alert authorities after the fact.

At the bank I worked at, they warned us if we tried to identify someone by their clothing or something they could remove/get away from (which is difficult to even tell people because during a robbery you have at most 3 to 5 minutes with them) that your information will not be helpful. What the AMA redditor says is consistent with the data the bank gave us during training. Sliding a note is the most common form of bank robbery. There is a reason teller stations are not allowed to have more than a certain amount of money in their drawers (for us, was $2k) and a bank branch, unless it is a central location, is typically limited as well.
My local bank was actually robbed a few days ago by an old man who basically did the same thing. He actually walked to the bank from his house, then walked back home. A local business had his home in view of one of their cameras and that's how he was easily caught within a few hours. Sad thing is, he said he did it because his retirement/social security are no longer enough money for him to survive on with our current absurd levels of inflation.
It almost doesn't even feel like a crime at this point. He just walked in asked for money they gave it to him and he walked out. No force was used and no threats were made(as far as I'm aware).

This is what happened to Mr. Incredible after millions of people forced him into becoming uncanny for several months. He eventually had enough of everyone's crap and lost it.
The training is the same for some grocery stores. The store i work at if someone wants to rob us we don't have to see a weapon. We are told to just open the register and hand the till to them.
A personal favorite of mine is the guy who robbed the bank naked and everyone was so distracted by his unsheathed gentleman that they couldn't tell the authorities what he looked like and he got away

As someone who worked in a bank, our vault was a piece of shit that kept getting jammed and the dials kept need to be recorded by a locksmith. Our vault was open and unlocked more than it was locked. The locks that actually held the money were 5 pin locks and the doors were so thin, it was comparable to highschool lockers
That's how every bank robbery goes in most of the world. The point of security personnel is the theatrics of security. The money is insured and the tellers have access to very little of it at their registers. Even at the vaults you do not find as much money as you think, and the only people that gave access to it are not usually near the public.
His outfit is actually smart. The shirt plays a role in what people will envision when they try to identify him, and the sunglasses conceal the eyes, the #1 defining factor of a person’s facial identity.
There is still a vault in mist banks, and large secured areas where they keep other money - those bank robberies are much harder and involve a lot more force plus the correct codes that always change. Most robberies nowadays just take what the tellers have at the front which will be around 200-600 per teller - depending on the bank. Especially since its a smaller amount its easier to get on the spot

The vast majority of bank robberies are silent note passers. They'll write on a deposit slip "give me the money, I have a gun, don't make any noises" or something like that. Bank tellers are instructed to never resist a robbery and to simply hand over everything in their drawer. Most banks have dye packs and/or "bait money" that they're told to also hand over in the even of a robbery to help catch them, and preserving life is of primary importance. Simply give them what they want, let them leave, lock the doors and call the cops.

Tellers are taught to just comply. They have a secret alarm button to push but the moneys insured so there's no real loss on the banks part and it isn't worth the risk. Most tellers only carry like maybe 10k-25k if their drawer is entirely full anyway.

I remember reading somewhere how to get away with a successful heist you don't even need to speak and how Bank Tellers are INSTRUCTED to comply when being robbed. I remember the post saying how you can go in with a card that says something like "Give me all the money in the register, I have a gun." and they will comply because that's what they're trained to do.
I used to work in retail, and one of the first things they told me was that if someone wants our money and is even a little bit too angry about it, we just give them the whole register. If we try to stop shoplifters, or care even a little bit about the company, we were going to get fired. My sister-in-law once worked for the same company for about a week until someone pulled a gun on her after she confronted them about shoplifting and she was fired immediately. Don't care about corporate profit because they damn sure don't care about you.
With superheroes being illegal, Mr. Incredible fell on hard times and had make choices he never thought he'd have to make. But I guess it's pretty tough having to provide for a wife, two kids, and a third kid along the way. Yeah, a really dark time for The Incredibles.

There's a rule at the bank I work at that if there's no obvious weapon or threat of danger that you can walk away to a locked room, but mostly the thing to do in a robbery is to comply, getting them in and out as soon as possible.

I've worked at credit unions (basically a bank) for over a decade and 99% of our robberies are a verbal demand or a note passed to the teller with no weapon involved. I have seen a better costume though! We once had a guy do a robbery in full Darth Vader costume. Helmet and all. Also we had a guy use the ATM outside as a mirror to put on his mask and gloves so we got excellent shots of his face. It's more common than you think and normally very boring, but occasionally funny!

Actually in real life the “sci-fi” red lasers you have to back flip and stand on one hand to get through are actually very old they don’t use infrared laser beams anymore they were a thing like 30 years ago but they were to easy to see/spray chemicals to see them and dodge them, they now use a mix of heat and chemical sensors that activate a wireless invisible connection to another sensor, this means there’s no way to make the sensors visible without setting them off and theres no alarm that can be heard by the trespasser the alarm sounds in a security office nearby where a team with automatic weapons will be notified as soon as someone/something disrupts the sensor to sensor connection or tries to spray chemicals to see any sensors, this is much more effective as even if you know where the sensors are or can see the sensors you would’ve had to have taken out the security teams both on the property and off site waiting for a alarm to sound before being able to get past them… this also means the sensors are placed like diagonal lines if you could see them they would look like a multiple staircases in front of you that even the best acrobatics professional couldn’t get past without hitting them. Basically places like large casino’s, government/mega banks, and government buildings use systems like this and it makes things like ocean 11 impossible in modern days unless you can somehow hack into the system without being detected by the 10 or so IT professional white hat hackers monitoring the system 24/7 for any invasion into the system.. large scale bank robberies are a thing of the past you can rob small banks but the loses are so minimal to the bank that you’re gonna need to rob like 50 of them to be “set for life” and by the time you get to the 3rd or 4th bank they already know a bank robber is out there and have undercover police waiting at all locations that even might be hit…. So yer good luck if you want to rob banks in 2022 unless you can survive off the 50k or so for the rest of your life that you might get if you take everything out the bank

I can imagine a scenario where the idea is to give in to demands because you never know if the person has a weapon hidden from you and refusing will result in you getting immediately killed by someone who is potentially completely unhinged.
It makes the most sense, ironically, to comply even if there's no threat since the weapon never gets drawn. You don't have the chance of anyone getting injured when there's no weapon involved, there's no panic, and also it is psychologically far less damaging to the bank teller. And the outcome where the FDIC is concerned is always the same

As someone who was trained in a German Bank. I can say that for us standard protocol was, if someone demands money and is armed or actively threatening us and we think that they could hurt us before we could alarm coworkers, we are instructed to just give it to them no further real questions asked and if we cant while he looks at us, the as soon as he leaves or turns around to sound the alarm. But even that isnt needed. Most banks dont even have cash anymore so we give them a card to go to the ATM with and they can get. (If i remember right back in my time) like 2000 Euro every 5 minutes from that ATM. Meaning most get 2k and then leg it because the moment that card is unlocked by us at the counter to enable them to even get money the silent alarm is also sounded even if we don't press the silent alarm. So ye we are all instructed to just give them money. Would end up way more costly for the bank if an employee resisted and ended up injured.
The only time I have ever heard of someone robbing a bank was by dressing nice and walking in like they were supposed to be there. They would wait for the vault to be opened, then walk in and out while acting professional. If you act like you're supposed to be there, then a lot of people just believe you.
The issue is that cameras exist. So this man was caught later after they discovered his identity...

My mom was a bank teller for 10 years, in most local branches they don't have more than 10,000$ at any given time. If you want more than that you have to ask for money to be shipped in in advance. So bank robbery doesn't actually get you that much money, infact it'd probably be more lucrative to rob gas stations, fast food restaurants, and other places where you pay in cash instead of credit cards.
It was probably hard for Mr.Incredible to pay for Violet's college tuition that he ended up going down this path to do so, what a downgrade of character development from our fallen hero.

There is a policy in every private bank to give over money at the slightest demand, like Charlie said, the banks have insurance to cover these costs. There was an AMA on reddit of an alleged serial bank robber who had done it for 10~ years and never been caught.

2. he always wore an identifying piece of clothing or marked his truck with something identifying (like wearing thick glasses or a safety vest, and then just taking them off after the robbery. He said he assumed that 95% of the time, the teller would fall for his bait identifier. (This is probably the incredibles t-shirt or the sunglasses in the case of this guy, as they're two pieces of his appearence that stand out. He's doing that intentionally so when somebody calls the cops saying the bank was robbed by a guy in an inredibles t-shirt, he will have already changed clothes))

At the bank I worked at, they warned us if we tried to identify someone by their clothing or something they could remove/get away from (which is difficult to even tell people because during a robbery you have at most 3 to 5 minutes with them) that your information will not be helpful. What the AMA redditor says is consistent with the data the bank gave us during training. Sliding a note is the most common form of bank robbery. There is a reason teller stations are not allowed to have more than a certain amount of money in their drawers (for us, was $2k) and a bank branch, unless it is a central location, is typically limited as well.

My local bank was actually robbed a few days ago by an old man who basically did the same thing. He actually walked to the bank from his house, then walked back home. A local business had his home in view of one of their cameras and that's how he was easily caught within a few hours. Sad thing is, he said he did it because his retirement/social security are no longer enough money for him to survive on with our current absurd levels of inflation.

As someone who worked in a bank, our vault was a piece of shit that kept getting jammed and the dials kept need to be recorded by a locksmith. Our vault was open and unlocked more than it was locked. The locks that actually held the money were 5 pin locks and the doors were so thin, it was comparable to highschool lockers
That's how every bank robbery goes in most of the world. The point of security personnel is the theatrics of security. The money is insured and the tellers have access to very little of it at their registers. Even at the vaults you do not find as much money as you think, and the only people that gave access to it are not usually near the public.

There is still a vault in mist banks, and large secured areas where they keep other money - those bank robberies are much harder and involve a lot more force plus the correct codes that always change. Most robberies nowadays just take what the tellers have at the front which will be around 200-600 per teller - depending on the bank. Especially since its a smaller amount its easier to get on the spot

The vast majority of bank robberies are silent note passers. They'll write on a deposit slip "give me the money, I have a gun, don't make any noises" or something like that. Bank tellers are instructed to never resist a robbery and to simply hand over everything in their drawer. Most banks have dye packs and/or "bait money" that they're told to also hand over in the even of a robbery to help catch them, and preserving life is of primary importance. Simply give them what they want, let them leave, lock the doors and call the cops.

Tellers are taught to just comply. They have a secret alarm button to push but the moneys insured so there's no real loss on the banks part and it isn't worth the risk. Most tellers only carry like maybe 10k-25k if their drawer is entirely full anyway.

I remember reading somewhere how to get away with a successful heist you don't even need to speak and how Bank Tellers are INSTRUCTED to comply when being robbed.
I remember the post saying how you can go in with a card that says something like "Give me all the money in the register, I have a gun." and they will comply because that's what they're trained to do.

I used to work in retail, and one of the first things they told me was that if someone wants our money and is even a little bit too angry about it, we just give them the whole register. If we try to stop shoplifters, or care even a little bit about the company, we were going to get fired. My sister-in-law once worked for the same company for about a week until someone pulled a gun on her after she confronted them about shoplifting and she was fired immediately. Don't care about corporate profit because they damn sure don't care about you.
With superheroes being illegal, Mr. Incredible fell on hard times and had make choices he never thought he'd have to make. But I guess it's pretty tough having to provide for a wife, two kids, and a third kid along the way. Yeah, a really dark time for The Incredibles.

There's a rule at the bank I work at that if there's no obvious weapon or threat of danger that you can walk away to a locked room, but mostly the thing to do in a robbery is to comply, getting them in and out as soon as possible.
