One of my personal favourite moments from this was when they released a quick-patch to hopefully block Server Dude out, and released a message stating that everything was normal, and then like, 12 seconds later the guy responded with a message just saying, "Fuck you, I'm still in here."
As someone who’s played this game since I was 9 and is now 20, I’d actually say the majority of players are teens and adults who played this as kids for nostalgia.

Here’s the thing about wizard 101: it was initially intended for kids but the story of the game is hilariously dark. Paywall aside, the main plot can be boiled down to “Malastaire was actually a decent dude but his response to the grief of losing his wife caused a maddened obsession with bringing her back, and he is willing to sacrifice all worlds in order to do it.” Krokotopia, the second world you go to, literally has a race that is enslaved, where even their souls are unable to rest and are put to work, which is genuinely a fate worse than death for these poor dudes. Yes, it’s a kid’s game, but just playing the first two worlds was way darker than I expect from a kid’s game if you actually read the text boxes and pay attention to what is happening
Azteca was pretty dark for me, and I was in high school when I got to that part of the game lol. Seeing all the dinosaurs prep for doomsday and then actually watching doomsday happen was like woah

Longtime Wizard101 player here, 10+ years. This was absolutely deserved. Kingsisle is one of the shittiest companies I’ve ever encountered and they really do not give a fuck about their fanbase. One of their lead developers has consistently fucked over the PvE aspect of the game in favour of PvP, while ignoring any feedback from the PvE players. And the gacha/loot boxes. They’re so predatory and the drop rates for rare items are ridiculously low. Wizard101 is really just a money-grabbing scheme disguised as a fun children’s game. I only still play it out of pure nostalgia, and even then I only go back to it every couple of months.

I remember when I played. I fell for the stupid lootbox nonsense, but I got a really cool Skeleton Dragon mount first try and then never went back. So that was neat.
I am losing my mind. I’ve been playing wiz since I was a kid, and seeing everyone rediscover us is like someone coming up to a desert island where the survivors of a crash have already established a town and government.
As a w101 player for 10+ years I can say W101 deserved this one. The game has been extremely money hungry and players have been expressing their dislike toward Ratbeard as he's driving the game into the ground & neglects to listen to player suggestions for better gameplay. Wether the person who sent those server messages was a hacker or a fed up employee, the W101 community stands with him. They call him "Server Dude". Edit: I'm gonna be honest, I really don't like the title of this video. The employee/hacker didn't destroy the game. Also, a lot of people like myself who grew up as kids playing w101 still play it as adults. It's more of a teenager/mostly adult game now.
Honestly they have to revamp the whole fighting system for PvE if they want a better game. For 90% of the fights its the same formula. Blade, then 4 pip AOE. Gets boring quick

Ngl serves Kingsisle right. This game represented my entire childhood, I still annually complete whatever new content comes out, but overall the company never did what the players wanted and acted in an extremely money hungry way throughout the whole development of Wiz. Not to mention they completely ditched their way better other game. They got what they deserved.
ive been playing wizard101 off and on since 2010, and as i grew older i was quickly able to tell that kingsisle has some serious predatory business tactics (the pricing of the membership, pricing of in-game items, how they treat community members asking for simple quality of life or drop chances for gambling related things, etc), and i believe this was an upset employee being treated unfairly. ive known for years that they specifically only hire people from texas, and they havent said thats because they're based in texas and its easier, they just dont want to support non-texans. i hope this can bring some huge changes and the employees get treated right and finally the community gets treated right. ive seen actual kingsisle employees responding very rudely and sarcastically to kids asking basic questions on the forums, they clearly dont care about the community and they only care about their wallets or their parent's wallets
also luckily most of the community is more around college age from what i can tell (at least the people past like the second world, likely because they arent children and have money)

The one that just said fuck had me creased 😂 Always nice to see employees use some colourful language as a protest, it’s reminds me of the time our hometown Thwaites brewery laid off a bunch of staff but wanted them to work a few more months so the staff collaborated to short some of the big red light up letters on the sides of the tall building so the sign above the town read Twats, it was up there for like half an hour before management turned the lights off and took days before they could get the other letters back to normal
The community stands with this individual. The game has awful management and this is a massive slap in the face to the management and it’s a massive W for the community.
I only learned of this game as an adult and it's unironically pretty fun. Story is ok, voice acting is pretty great with few misses, the housing and other mini-game subsystems are fleshed out enough, and the card game itself is not bad. Hope this cheeky stunt brings more people to the game.

As someone who still plays the game to this day every now and then, I feel this man's pain. I've gone through some pretty shitty companies in my life, but none like kingsisle. They do NOT give a fuck about their fanbase, or their employees, and messaging support is like trying to dig through a reinforced steel wall with a plastic spoon that's been broken in half and put back together with Elmer's glue. Even when you finally do get through by some miracle, even if they're in the wrong, they'll go out of their way to be rude and shut you down at every opportunity, they do not buckle. If this game was EVER to come back and be as big as it used to be, it would require a COMPLETE company overhaul to fix half of the shitty decisions they've made. This employee outburst was honestly just a matter of time.
That makes a lot of sense with a lot of these older MMOs where when the money starts coming in, all hell breaks loose. This is just another example of someone who's had enough of their BS and made it known in one of the most hilarious ways possible. The funny thing is that we have 3 MMOs that have or are about to shut down this year and probably a lot more in the coming year. Those games being Tera, Bless Unleashed, and Aiyon. The only thing in common with those games were the rampant mismanagement and toxic playerbases which contributed to the numbers dropping over time. I was shocked when Tera closed but the latter two, it was a matter of time. Wizard101 will most likely go the way of the dodo soon if they don't pull it together. I also predict that WoW will continue to go to the shitter as nobody cares much about the upcoming expansion as well as PSO 2 New Genesis probably won't last much longer as the latter continues to bleed players too even with the new Kvaris update. A friend of my brother's pretty much quit playing the game entirely recently as the update had practically nothing and he said he was going to focus on other stuff in the meantime. My brother isn't playing anymore himself as he got tired of the grind and bullshit of the game really quickly.

@@scratch7971 I honestly think Sega should recommit to single player experiences as this hasn't worked out so well for them. This is coming from someone who's played the older games in the series and has a deep knowledge of them too. PSO2 had it's shot and New Genesis is just wasting that potential. The plot is barely there anymore compared to the base game, the combat is awful, and I really don't like the washed out aesthetic of the game. The music is great where it needs to be though.
One time I was charged without my knowledge for a one year membership - it was due to one of those bs auto renew memberships, except even worse because it was a family account and so the fault was not mine a friend had forgotten to turn off auto renew so it charged me instead. I messaged support about it and they were kinda rude and condescending about it as if it wasn't an honest mistake - I told them you can check my account logs or whatever I haven't used it at all because it wasn't done intentionally I was not aware - after a few back and forth they refunded me the money, so I'm at least grateful for that however .. auto renews just sucks, I hate them in any payment method.

as someone who does legitimately play w101 in phases (will play for a few weeks/months and then stop for a while, rinse and repeat), this is SO fucking funny and i am SO disappointed that i wasn't playing when it happened. a lot of the userbase in the high level content is teenagers and young adults, and i can guarantee you everybody was losing their shit while these were getting posted

They also recently implemented voice chat and age guidelines like 17+ with some games because some of the games has more older kids as their audience than little kids.
This has given wizard101 more marketing than the company could ever hope to achieve. Give the man who posted these messages a raise. Update: Turns out it was not an employee (or so they claim lol) and they gave everybody free membership until the end of September for the inconvenience. Smart move.

That’s pretty much the mmo genre in a nutshell. Look what happened to games like Aion, Rift, Elsword, and TERA. Community gets drowned out by the sound of cash pouring in. These developers don’t care about the sad state of their game or how unhappy their players are, they just want money. The cycle of mmo games becoming nothing but, pay 2win grind fest dress up simulators with combat and sparkly flashy cosmetics continues until the genre just dies. And these games only cater to whales. Shocked these games don’t automatically ask for your credit card info when you sign up.
This story turned out much more light hearted then I was expecting. I was expecting there was a card/board game tournament somewhere and the employee just flips the table at where a game was being played, disrupting the whole thing.
As a Wizard101 player I really hope this brings more people to the game so the staff has more budget to improve and advertise it, the game is still going strong but it is looking a little shaky at the moment.

I detest when people immediately jump to the "it's a marketing scheme/ publicity stunt" conclusion, it just goes to show how little people know of they're talking about. a campaign needs to make the brand look good and appealing, so a game for children spamming obscenities and edgy jokes don't fit the bill, but yes, there were cases of companies approving of stupid and grandiose things to stay relevant, and some other that were more "guerrilla", but those are the exception, not the rule

One thing I will add is that Wiz101 is no longer targeted towards kids/younger teens. Those TV ads were their promo around 10 years ago, and they just recycle footage for trailers these days. The actual game content and storyline for newer additions is more in line with most games these days.
Even just mentioning Wizard 101 unlocked a memory I didn't know I had. I bet 90% of us forgot it ever even existed. Whether it's a marketing ploy or not, this helped the game more than anything else could have.

Apparently [supposedly] they did get access back, only for the rogue employee to respond via the same box to say they still have control. The CEO also [supposedly] used the announcement box and called the employee to their office, to which they responded via announcements, "come to room 102 and i'll beat you up" Now I haven't played Wizard101 since I was 12 but I would've payed good money to watch that fight go down.
I actually was laughing my ass off in the middle of my battles with those messages popping up on my screen. I was like WTF? And then an hour and a half later, the server went under maintenance. No fucking wonder.

@@drinkswatere Well the card packs actually have really good gear in them, for example the fossil avenger soul crusher wand you can only get from packs aswell as the sky captains boarding hook from another. However you can get free crowns by doing questions n shit. But you can craft most of the good shit at level 130 though so you dont HAVE to try your luck with there card packs.

I played wiz101 a /lot/ as a kid, and as a adult I've gone back to it a few times for the nostalgia. One of the biggest things I noticed was how much stuff there was to throw money at, and how much more the membership now costs. I wish they had used the money to upgrade their engine so the game doesn't feel like it's stuck in 2011

I still love playing WIzard101, and honsetly I've never laughed so hard at the game when this happened I saw it all unfold. The commons were crazyyyyy.
@@TheDeathvice187 Most kids don't get to 150 nor have any idea what to do with the systems the game has. Ill admit it is a childs game, but the end game is pretty good for people who like to grind/craft/do secret bosses and dungeons and stuff. And the story becomes a lot more "mature" later on in the game.

This is hilarious. As an adult who plays w101, all the time and who didn’t witness this, I am sad. edit: about the colon, there is a world where you literally go into some weird creatures stomach. Some of the NPC’s complain about how gross the smell is and shit. So not the colon, but the intestines. edit2: I’ve actually never met somebody who plays wizard101 who’s a kid. I’m 19 and the youngest person I’ve met was 14, and that was roughly a year and a half ago. Most people I know range from 18-25. But at the same time, would a 7yo be a w101 discord? I remember playing Wizard101 early 2009, and when they did balancing for the game, I had a character named 'Chris Griffin' with level 45 helm equipped before balancing, at the time it felt so cool having a level 11 character with level 45 gear equipped.
This Wizard 101 villain is my hero. I’ve been playing Wizard101 off and on for over 10 years, and I’m so mad I wasn’t playing when this happened. I would’ve lost my shit. My friend and I used to sit in my private castle and just try to find ways to get around the chat filter to say stupid shit like “my balls are sweaty and purple”. One night when we were doing that, we both got one of those pop-ups on our screen that said something like “Final Warning for profanity. Stop now or we will take action” and we were so fucking scared. Charlie is absolutely right in saying those messages are like messages from God. I can only imagine what the kids playing the game today felt when they saw those messages

Here’s the thing about wizard 101: it was initially intended for kids but the story of the game is hilariously dark. Paywall aside, the main plot can be boiled down to “Malastaire was actually a decent dude but his response to the grief of losing his wife caused a maddened obsession with bringing her back, and he is willing to sacrifice all worlds in order to do it.” Krokotopia, the second world you go to, literally has a race that is enslaved, where even their souls are unable to rest and are put to work, which is genuinely a fate worse than death for these poor dudes. Yes, it’s a kid’s game, but just playing the first two worlds was way darker than I expect from a kid’s game if you actually read the text boxes and pay attention to what is happening

Longtime Wizard101 player here, 10+ years. This was absolutely deserved. Kingsisle is one of the shittiest companies I’ve ever encountered and they really do not give a fuck about their fanbase. One of their lead developers has consistently fucked over the PvE aspect of the game in favour of PvP, while ignoring any feedback from the PvE players.
And the gacha/loot boxes. They’re so predatory and the drop rates for rare items are ridiculously low. Wizard101 is really just a money-grabbing scheme disguised as a fun children’s game.
I only still play it out of pure nostalgia, and even then I only go back to it every couple of months.

As a w101 player for 10+ years I can say W101 deserved this one. The game has been extremely money hungry and players have been expressing their dislike toward Ratbeard as he's driving the game into the ground & neglects to listen to player suggestions for better gameplay. Wether the person who sent those server messages was a hacker or a fed up employee, the W101 community stands with him. They call him "Server Dude".
Edit: I'm gonna be honest, I really don't like the title of this video. The employee/hacker didn't destroy the game. Also, a lot of people like myself who grew up as kids playing w101 still play it as adults. It's more of a teenager/mostly adult game now.

Ngl serves Kingsisle right. This game represented my entire childhood, I still annually complete whatever new content comes out, but overall the company never did what the players wanted and acted in an extremely money hungry way throughout the whole development of Wiz. ive been playing wizard101 off and on since 2010, and as i grew older i was quickly able to tell that kingsisle has some serious predatory business tactics (the pricing of the membership, pricing of in-game items, how they treat community members asking for simple quality of life or drop chances for gambling related things, etc), and i believe this was an upset employee being treated unfairly. ive known for years that they specifically only hire people from texas, and they havent said thats because they're based in texas and its easier, they just dont want to support non-texans. i hope this can bring some huge changes and the employees get treated right and finally the community gets treated right. ive seen actual kingsisle employees responding very rudely and sarcastically to kids asking basic questions on the forums, they clearly dont care about the community and they only care about their wallets or their parent's wallets
also luckily most of the community is more around college age from what i can tell (at least the people past like the second world, likely because they arent children and have money)

I only learned of this game as an adult and it's unironically pretty fun. Story is ok, voice acting is pretty great with few misses, the housing and other mini-game subsystems are fleshed out enough, and the card game itself is not bad. Hope this cheeky stunt brings more people to the game.

As someone who still plays the game to this day every now and then, I feel this man's pain. I've gone through some pretty shitty companies in my life, but none like kingsisle. They do NOT give a fuck about their fanbase, or their employees, and messaging support is like trying to dig through a reinforced steel wall with a plastic spoon that's been broken in half and put back together with Elmer's glue. Even when you finally do get through by some miracle, even if they're in the wrong, they'll go out of their way to be rude and shut you down at every opportunity, they do not buckle. If this game was EVER to come back and be as big as it used to be, it would require a COMPLETE company overhaul to fix half of the shitty decisions they've made. This employee outburst was honestly just a matter of time.
That makes a lot of sense with a lot of these older MMOs where when the money starts coming in, all hell breaks loose. This is just another example of someone who's had enough of their BS and made it known in one of the most hilarious ways possible. The funny thing is that we have 3 MMOs that have or are about to shut down this year and probably a lot more in the coming year. Those games being Tera, Bless Unleashed, and Aiyon.
The only thing in common with those games were the rampant mismanagement and toxic playerbases which contributed to the numbers dropping over time. I was shocked when Tera closed but the latter two, it was a matter of time. Wizard101 will most likely go the way of the dodo soon if they don't pull it together. I also predict that WoW will continue to go to the shitter as nobody cares much about the upcoming expansion as well as PSO 2 New Genesis probably won't last much longer as the latter continues to bleed players too even with the new Kvaris update. A friend of my brother's pretty much quit playing the game entirely recently as the update had practically nothing and he said he was going to focus on other stuff in the meantime. My brother isn't playing anymore himself as he got tired of the grind and bullshit of the game really quickly.

PSO2 had it's shot and New Genesis is just wasting that potential. The plot is barely there anymore compared to the base game, the combat is awful, and I really don't like the washed out aesthetic of the game. The music is great where it needs to be though.
One time I was charged without my knowledge for a one year membership - it was due to one of those bs auto renew memberships, except even worse because it was a family account and so the fault was not mine a friend had forgotten to turn off auto renew so it charged me instead.
I messaged support about it and they were kinda rude and condescending about it as if it wasn't an honest mistake - I told them you can check my account logs or whatever I haven't used it at all because it wasn't done intentionally I was not aware - after a few back and forth they refunded me the money, so I'm at least grateful for that however .. auto renews just sucks, I hate them in any payment method.

They also recently implemented voice chat and age guidelines like 17+ with some games because some of the games has more older kids as their audience than little kids.

That’s pretty much the mmo genre in a nutshell. Look what happened to games like Aion, Rift, Elsword, and TERA. Community gets drowned out by the sound of cash pouring in. These developers don’t care about the sad state of their game or how unhappy their players are, they just want money. The cycle of mmo games becoming nothing but, pay 2win grind fest dress up simulators with combat and sparkly flashy cosmetics continues until the genre just dies. And these games only cater to whales. Shocked these games don’t automatically ask for your credit card info when you sign up.
This story turned out much more light hearted then I was expecting.

I detest when people immediately jump to the "it's a marketing scheme/ publicity stunt" conclusion, it just goes to show how little people know of they're talking about. a campaign needs to make the brand look good and appealing, so a game for children spamming obscenities and edgy jokes don't fit the bill, but yes, there were cases of companies approving of stupid and grandiose things to stay relevant, and some other that were more "guerrilla", but those are the exception, not the rule

The funny thing is... even if it wasn't marketing, it did end up marketing it, and Charlie said exactly why. I forgot this game existed until now after having played it a bit as a kid, and part of me is now considering trying it out again.
Maybe the marketing team realized that kids don't have that much money to spend, so they wanted to broaden their market to the adult scene and... that's what they came up with. Perfect!

One thing I will add is that Wiz101 is no longer targeted towards kids/younger teens. Those TV ads were their promo around 10 years ago, and they just recycle footage for trailers these days. The actual game content and storyline for newer additions is more in line with most games these days.
Even just mentioning Wizard 101 unlocked a memory I didn't know I had. I bet 90% of us forgot it ever even existed. Whether it's a marketing ploy or not, this helped the game more than anything else could have.

@@drinkswatere Well the card packs actually have really good gear in them, for example the fossil avenger soul crusher wand you can only get from packs aswell as the sky captains boarding hook from another. However you can get free crowns by doing questions n shit. But you can craft most of the good shit at level 130 though so you dont HAVE to try your luck with there card packs.

I played wiz101 a /lot/ as a kid, and as a adult I've gone back to it a few times for the nostalgia. One of the biggest things I noticed was how much stuff there was to throw money at, and how much more the membership now costs. I wish they had used the money to upgrade their engine so the game doesn't feel like it's stuck in 2011

Ill admit it is a childs game, but the end game is pretty good for people who like to grind/craft/do secret bosses and dungeons and stuff. And the story becomes a lot more "mature" later on in the game.

edit: about the colon, there is a world where you literally go into some weird creatures stomach. Some of the NPC’s complain about how gross the smell is and shit. So not the colon, but the intestines.

I remember playing Wizard101 early 2009, and when they did balancing for the game, I had a character named 'Chris Griffin' with level 45 helm equipped before balancing, at the time it felt so cool having a level 11 character with level 45 gear equipped.

I’ve been playing Wizard101 off and on for over 10 years, and I’m so mad I wasn’t playing when this happened. I would’ve lost my shit. My friend and I used to sit in my private castle and just try to find ways to get around the chat filter to say stupid shit like “my balls are sweaty and purple”. One night when we were doing that, we both got one of those pop-ups on our screen that said something like “Final Warning for profanity. Stop now or we will take action” and we were so fucking scared. Charlie is absolutely right in saying those messages are like messages from God. I can only imagine what the kids playing the game today felt when they saw those messages
