I am a big fan of Retro Fighters and their line of controllers. Affordable, top notch quality, they're comfortable, responsive; You can't lose with them

I love the GameCube. Such an underrated system. As far as upgrades, I have two wavebird controllers that I kept, I still have a free loader disc for my platinum gameboy player and I bought the component cables. As of now I don’t see me getting any other upgrades. Great video John!

Probably worth mentioning that the Wii U now has never been better for using as a Game Cube replacement and for consolidating a Game Cube and Wii library onto one piece of hardware. I think it took me an hour to mod the Wii U, and then each Game Cube title took a few minutes to manually process for native loading right from the Home Screen, while having nice looking game icons for each title. Just need to buy a western digital HD (and y cable if you can't solder) and a bigger SD card. The Game Cube games are upscaled to 1080p by the Wii U and also get the Wii filter treatment. No need to deal with memory cards. Wii U prices are not getting cheaper either.

Considering how popular retro collecting is and how expensive GameCube games are, it would make sense for Nintendo to make remasters of GameCube games on the Switch.
I guess we can be happy Nintendo is slowly on that path with the recent Metroid Prime Remastered that just came out on the Switch. Maybe we'll finally get The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on the Switch? Maybe we'll get remakes of DS & 3DS era first party games to the Switch?

Another way to get a good video output is to use a backwards compatible Wii. I found out last year that a modded Wii U can run Gamecube games natively from an SD card or a USB drive, it also upscales the video quality to 1080p, and you can use orginial Gamecube controllers with a Wii U Gamecube USB adapter.

I have my original WaveBirds but if the retro fighter controller is good enough I may sell them while they are working well

Love all of Johns stuff. Definatly checking out the Retro Fighters BattlerGC. I must have tin eyes though, because I cant tell the difference between composite and component on my phones screen. Probably worth it in person for my CRT or flat screen though.

I’ve got 3 CRT’s at home, 2 small and 1 big flat screen with composite and s-video options. Please tell my wife these are valuable and need to be kept despite the space and ‘look’ of them. Thank you🤙

My go-to for controllers are the Hori Pads, which were made during the original lifespan I reviewed one btw. Dare I say they're better than the og controller, and I use the EON MK 2, and it's amazing, expensive, though...

I managed to get the Gamecube that came with the Zelda compilation. Then I bought a Game Boy Player. I already think I have an ultimate Game Cube. Hard to imagine an improvement to that.
Seeing how much you might have to pay now for it, I'd call it a worthwhile investment, even if I don't use it so often lately.

I have the GCLoader. I love it. I use swiss to have a list of games on a SD card and virtual memory card saves.

I would AVOID all the Hyperkin cables. They poorly upscale the composit signal into a digital signal and they all just look bad. The only reason that particular one is called a "pro" is because it is a 3 in one. As for other stuff to get for the GC I got that new Blue Retro controller board and I love this thing. It basically turns your GC into a modern console. You can't use any Bluetooth controller on it and also still use all your original controllers. It gives you the ability to turn you GC on and off with the controller. You can customize your buttons. Multiple colors on the LED depending on what the board it trying to do. Leds in the controller ports. It also comes with a replaceable battery socket. All in all this thing is great.

I will add another plug for Stone Age Gamer. Great customer service, and I am fortunate to be in driving distance. Frankencubes are fun to have. Lot's of neat stuff for the Dreamcast too (Frankencast...).

Gc loader is cool but very expensive. Should have spent some time with the pico mod. Takes like 30 bucks total, doesn't take a gecko and preserves the disk reader.

I got a gamecube with gameboy player, modded using action replay, sd card Inside the console with games
a few beefy memory cards and a Carby HDMI adapter
One thing I am after Is the broadband adapter, It's well over £100 and only really works with one game, but technically you can use mario kart and xlink kai but that price Is a bitter pill to swallow

I usually play Gamecube games on the Wii with component out and a wavebird. Is there any advantage to playing on a Gamecube with component?

I like the GC more than the N64 and Wii but my collection is lame with only a baker's dozen games. 🙄 I wish I had a gameboy player so I can play GBA games on a different TV!
