I don’t have a 3D printer or any tools and to see you just do it THAT easily made me want to try. Now I know what to do

I love how he actually did make it easy and simple. Like for real there was a video for connecting a Gameboy advanced to a screen, which involved soldering up a new Gameboy with some component in it and then using like three converter s to plug it in to the screen and had the audacity to see it is easy assembly

I actually recommend parting out a wii instead since you don’t have to sacrifice any GameCube screen cables. Wii’s are also far easier to chop down

The concept alone is both hilarious, and concerning.
We're doing it right now.
I mean the internet is full of nerds doing all sort of cool stuff with very expensive tools because whatever.... But most of us have no idea what we're doing and when we succeed, the result looks patched up, glue and tape everywhere, etc... This is why this project is cool! Peter is one of us, and I bet that his inner child was exploding of joy after this one!

Random thing I noticed as a dumb kid trying to make a portable n64 that could actually be useful:
IDE cables actually fit on the pins on the bottom of the n64 cart slot (which just pops out) so potentially you could use a few to extend the cart slot, if you soldered some pin rows into the motherboard. You'd want to use the ones with less wires, since the ones with more/smaller wires tend to have a piece in them that shorts a bunch of pins which are usually ground. Alternatively, you'd just pull out the metal tab that does the shorting, but that requires disassembling/reassembling the end connector, which isn't terrible but a decent bit more work

ehmm... this project is about melting plastic and glueing...
why did you not some propper 3d printing... in that way you did not had to melt-destroy your controller ... this is how i would have done it..
1) unbox controller and console
2) measure all the holes and needed curves for holding it not suffering in your hands.. (bestway would be a dockable controller to the rest of the console )
3) place the monitor in correct position to avoid unnecessary reflexctions
4) place the batteries in alle possible spaces to minimize.
5) place 2 small fans in the case (in / out fan direction)
6) place headsinks on the gpu, cpu ( or what it is called in the n64)
7) place 3way Button on the Side to overclock the n64 in 2 possible ways
8) selfmade batteryback does also need a propper way to charge it ( not to fast, not to slow, not to big ). There are some boards online .. or you reuse the one of the original powerbank < bestway if the capacity is somewhere the same....
9) to avoid sudden black-screens... a battery volate to percent display, would help...

how to store 20 Games that are bigger than the console it self .. that really calls for a raspberryPI (RetroPI) Console. Because all the games fit on a small SD Card. You also kann use n64 Controllers with a usb connector by factory. Also the PI does not consume that much Power like the N64 21,3W , to 3 Watts with the PI. Thats 7 times longer playtime on the pi, if the battery capacity is the same. Also the Cooling is getting less and less stressful as soon as the consumption is getting closer to 0. Also, you would be able to charge or at least hold the battery charge while gaming on low or very low battery (not included the screen).
What i personal hate, are batteries running flat when the *thing*/ in this case console is not used for a longer time period, and as a effect of that the batteries are going bad. As there is no room in my house where I plugin and charge all the devices all the time.. my personal extra would be a solarcell on the back, that charges the batteries slowly (probably very slow) while lying around. This could be integrated onto a flipcover that flips from the back when done gaming over the screen and contoller ( dust cover ).
There is also the point, that the n64 does have a bad resolution/fps thing... the emulation thoes present you a much clearer image to multiple resolutions. The ultimate benefit would be to use *fixed* or modified roms.
