At my local Half Price Books Outlet, I found Mario Kart Double Dash complete for $17.99, back in 2018. At the time, I didn’t have a GameCube or Backward Compatible Wii, so I passed up on it. I’m still kicking my self for that.
back in 2017 I found a gamecube copy of twilight princess for $40 CAD, I didnt have a gamecube at the time but I did have a wii and i am SO glad I got that when I did considering it's price now
I really enjoyed the gamecube. I bought one today to play some classics that i used to play. Absolutely enjoyed the catalogs that came with this system.
I remember I bought my GBA Player complete with the device and disc in its box for $70 at my local retro game store. I learned of it back in 2015, and about a week later I saw it in the display case. That same month I saved up enough money to buy it. And I still have it to this day!
@millo7295 yes, the GBA Player is an attachment for the GameCube that allows you to play any Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance cartridge (except GBA Video cartridges as Nintendo feared people would pirate the movies on them). It's literally the guts of a GBA in the GBA Player, and that means it's region-free, so you can play Japanese games on a North American unit and vice versa. However, to use the GBA Player, you need the boot up disc. It won't function properly without the disc. As a result, the Players are relatively dirt cheap and the discs are very expensive.
This starters guide was really helpful! Picking up a GameCube today from my friend who's giving it to me, his reset button is stuck down, but It's definitely something I could figure out to fix. It's also the rarest and best color for US GameCubes, Platinum. Idk if it's the later model which takes away one of the three ports on the bottom, no component cables, and has a better laser, but either way I will actually get the Gamboy Player, as I don't have any of the Gameboy handhelds and would like to play the games off the big screen.
@Frank-sp7vu Platinum GameCube models were actually produced until the Gamecube's end of life which was from 2002 to 2007. But there are two versions of the platinum color, one the Analog AV out and Digital AV out and one with Analog AV only which was made in 2004. You are correct about the later platinum model having no component, but the one with the component input is the more rarer of the two since it was produced from 2002 to 2004. So I guess you could say the original "Limited Edition" Platinum is actually limited.
I own a Spice Orange and a Platinum GC, both with matching color GBA Players. Both have PicoBoot and SP2SD mods. The orange one has an internal HDMI mod and the other I use the Kaico Labs Digital AV to HDMI. As much as I love them, GC games look best on a modded Wii U. I also have an internal HDMI modded Wii but for GC games, a Wii U is best. Once you use widescreen hacks, many games are as close to remasters as they will ever be.
I have a GameCube on hold in a local shop but it’s been delayed twice because of it’s disc drive not working twice… and the second time they thought it was fixed and it broke within 2 hours of them receiving it and me coming to the store. It’s really annoying me now.
Ah dang. At this point I'd say screw it and get a GC Loader for it. Or at least swap it out with a working drive. They're not difficult to remove at all.
If anyone wants a wii with backwards compatibility do not buy the family edition of the wii since they removed the gamecube controller and memory card ports in that version.
Damn, parents that don’t value their kids stuff at all and just sell / throw them away without asking are infuriating. Gladly my parents understood the fact they might have some value to me and kept everything and at the very least asked if something was worth storing if thet didn’t understand something.
I bought a pair of component gb cables from a used game store on Black Friday 10yrs ago for $50 bucks because they had a sale of 50% off anything in the store.
Just bought one w super mario sunshine and smash melee. 330 dollars, little pricey but its whatever. I already have spiderman 2 and the teen titans game from when i had this system as a child
Great video, we need more of these console guides. I have a backwards compatible Wii and don't really care to play my GBA games on my tv. Any point in getting a Gamecube in this case? Just asking to see if I'm missing something
Some people feel that the Wii doesn't give the best clarity. But Imo it's only if you put them side by side. Gamecube just looks cooler but otherwise if you already have a Wii then it does the trick.
I had to check something up because I thought I remembered that japanese games will work on european gamecubes. I couldn't confirm that, *BUT* I did find a site that claims japanese gamecube consoles *will* play american games. Take it with a grain of salt, as I'm not able to personally verify this.
I don't know why you said to make sure you have a memory card for different regions, i use just one generic 128mb card for all regions of games through SWISS v06 no problem.
a lot of guides suggest keeping it separate since the gamecube will ask you to format each time. If it keeps the saves on the card regardless of region that's a cool bonus.
Is this a good deal? I just got a practically mint old gamecube, a controller, all of the cables and sonic mega collection for £54 (shipping was £7 ish) im very happy with it i just wonder what anyone else thinks?
Can you explain the Swiss thing a bit more when using the Action Replay? I bought an Action Replay and an extra memory card so I can play a few Japanese GameCube games that never came over to America. I'm not looking for any mods with the games, just simply play them. Do I need that Swiss software as well? I always thought that you put in the disc, turn the GameCube on, then swap out the disc with the game you wanted to play. Is there more to it than that?
Swiss can do what Action Replay does, it's just a smoother interface and when you're playing backups off the SD card like with the GCloader, it just boots into whatever region you need. If you're just doing the disc swap method with the Action Replay, Swiss isn't necessary. But if you want to launch homebrew with the Action Replay like the Gameboy interface for example, you can get a SD card memory card, load it with the proper software and the Action Replay will see it and launch what you need. It comes in handy if you want to use the Gameboy Player with more features than the boot disc. Or if you don't want to pay the obscene amount of money.
i wont beable too buy all the games i want fire emblem seires and metroid there too over prices so i got metroid 1 remake thank god waiting for the fire emblem remakes for the game cube ones . few others that sky rocket too 300 for no reason for me i just want the pokemon games i wont get those megaman battle network game on game cube wont beable too get those i just emulate them on pc . or mod my game cube too play games from the sd card and mod it
Don’t waste your money on a GameCube console. Just buy a Wii that plays GameCube games and buy a controller and memory card. Most popular games are expensive though. Another cheaper route is just downloading an emulator or three..
I just bought a Gamecube because I wanted to use gameboy player that cant be used with Wii. And well, I have WiiU which is basically also a Wii so Gamecube part was all I needed anyway
I have 2 game cubes modded with GCloaders, sp2sd2 and HDMI carbies. Got both Japan and US libraries. I'm good. It is a fun little system. Much better than the N64. What a piece of shit that thing is.

That's always the conundrum when collecting. I had a handful of games for systems I didn't own and eventually sold them.

Can i use a gamecube controller for wii games on the wii?
@@hadyalbagu8615 only games that are compatible with it. You'll have to check the back of the box

Just wipe them down with a microfiber cloth. I wouldn't use anything abrasive.
