I'm one of those people who first experienced animal crossing on a lodgenet hotel gamecube experience. It wasn't lost when you checked out, it was lost when you finished your play session. There was no actual saving on that system of play.
But would it sell on Xbox? Remember that Nintendo reworking the game into Star Fox Adventures ensured that Microsoft's purchase of Rare would not affect the game's target platform. Had it remained Dinosaur Planet, the game would've been moved to Xbox rather quickly.
14:38 - Oh man, so, I just got Animal Crossing: Population Growing for Christmas of 2022, and thankfully it came with the memory card (this was the first time I had ever encountered and experienced the Gamecube game for myself, I kept meaning to over the last two decades, but kept putting it off and putting it off...), and when I popped in the included memory card (keep in mind, I have 3 others memory cards on hand, two of my own, and one that my cousin left behind / forgot that I need to someday return to him, his is a Nyko 128 MB size one), there was NOTHING Animal Crossing related on it, there were two save files each for the Monkey Ball games (I believe there's only Monkey Ball 1 and 2 on the GC, I don't remember for sure), and a third save for some Bratz game.... not even the "Animal Crossing Special Data" that Nintendo included on every memory card that was shipped with the copies of Animal Crossing. I am so thankful for the internet, and the ability to mod a Wii, etc. My Wii has been modded for years, and one of the things I have on it is the Gamecube Memory Card Manager. I was able to do a raw backup on to my Wii's SD card, put it on my computer, open it with Dolphin emulator, download that "Special Data" from Gamefaqs, put it on the raw backup, re-insert the SD card into my Wii, overwrite the memory card with the backup that has the "Special Data", and now all is good.
I played N64 in my hotel room once. It was laggy, I played Rush 2. It’s a weird memory. I believe it was in San Francisco and it was after the GameCube came out.
The clip from the Mario Sunshine commercial made me tense up so bad. I remember one of the most memorable jumpscares I saw as a kid was one in a fake upload of the commercial on TH-cam. Didn't realize it still had that kinda hold over me 😅
That Mario Sunshine song caused a lot of dumb arguments between a friend and I, because the song in the commercial very clearly says "sludge" but in the game it is very clearly called "graffiti," and we were both immature children that couldn't understand nuance and multiple things being right at once, so he got angry whenever I sang "and clean the sludge that's on the ground" and refer to it as "sludge," and I got angry whenever he called it "graffiti" since the jingle said it was sludge.
Pokémon Colosseum games also came with their own memory card included, just like Animal Crossing, their files were otherwise too big. I would have argued that the exact specifications of GameCube's colors could be actually useful to some artists years ago, but now in the era of AI art, not so much.. Surprisingly, I knew about 90% of these. Especially the fact that Colosseum reused the models from the Stadium games, this was so obvious to me even as a kid who never owned an N64 before and had no idea about Pokémon generations or anything specific at the time but I could instantly tell which models were on N64 first just by their low detail compared to the newest Pokémon that were made specifically for GC.
definitely some interesting facts I haven't seen on dykg yet! i cannot believe how much jirachi disk sells for, i suddenly have something extremely valuable in my collection. i don't think i'll ever sell it, but it does tempt now knowing this cmcnxbd

the reason gamecube support lasted into the early wii era is due to the Wii pretty much being a gamecube with Wifi and Bluetooth support
