    Do I need to buy the pro bundle? Do I need RavenEye to do active tracking on the DJI RSC 2?
    DJI Ronin SC 2 (RSC 2) came out later this year and one of the MAIN reasons their initial spotlights on these things caught my eye was ACTIVE TRACKING through this Raven Eye Transmitter. I wanted to be able to do subject tracking, and motion tracking with my gimbal.
    With the old Ronin SC you could do active tracking, but in order to make it work, you have to mount your phone to the top of your camera, and you can only use a lens thats something close to your phone lens because its looking through your phone to do the tracking, and then your phone is sending commands to the gimbal for it to move. But it made the rig awkwardly weighted and also, you can only start it and pick a subject to track THROUGh your phone, which is mounted on top of the camera and facing forward, which makes it really hard to pick yourself as that subject. And also, this meant that when you were done with whatever tracking shot and you wanted to be able to use your phone again, now you have to re-balance the gimbal and its a whole thing. It was always just enough of a hassle that I didn’t ever use it.
    With the addition of this raven eye transmitter - the new RSC2 can see directly through your cameras eye, and take control of the gimbal to track subjects, the same tracking technology thats in their Mavic drones…
    The raven eye module connects directly to your camera and your gimbal; it sees through your camera, which means you can use any lens you want, and then sends that view to your phone where you can then swipe and select a subject, making it much easier for you yourself to BE that subject, even from across the room. For me, this is going to totally change the way I can shoot DIY stuff because I have this whole warehouse that I can move around in and the camera SHOULD just stay on me all the time. Another good use for this technology is tracking a subject that ISNT moving, but that you are moving around.. Maybe youre on a bicycle or a skateboard or something and you want a smooth track but what whatever reason youre unable to look at the monitor of the gimbal, now the raven eye can do the work of keeping the subject in frame while you move the camera rig through space.
    BUT, when you buy this gimbal, you have two choices. You’ll see them listed as DJI RSC 2 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for $499.99, and DJI RSC 2 Pro Combo 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for $739.99. If you want to use Active Track with this gimbal, you’ll have to buy the pro combo.
    What ISNT initially totally clear with their promotions and everything I read about it, was that active track is NOT built into the gimbal, and the Raven Eye doesn’t come with it UNLESS you buy the “pro combo.” The Pro Combo is a couple hundred dollars more, it comes with a focus motor so you can use manual lenses, a set of metal feet instead of plastic ones, a mount for your phone so it can hang off the side of the gimbal and be a monitor (and also control the raven eye) and a bunch more little bits and cords and mounts and things.
    Its this Raven Eye Module that makes it so your gimbal can do active tracking. It IS available for sale independently, but its not in any stores and at least at the time of filming, its sold out everywhere. It mounts directly to the gimbal and sits under your camera and you’ll plug in an HDMI cable from your camera to the raven eye, and then a data cable from the raven eye to the gimbal, and also another data cable from the gimbal back to your camera - allowing a perfect circle of data harmony to flow through the whole system.
    If you choose the cheaper option, what youre getting is basically a slightly stronger, more refined, easier to balance version of the Ronin SC with a tiny LED screen for settings and a focus wheel.
    I love my Ronin SC, and the RSC 2 seems to fix each of the small things that made it cumbersome. The biggest being the active tracking; but they’ve also made a huge improvement on balancing. On the older Ronin SC, if you ever took the camera off and then put it back on again, you’d have to go back through half of the balancing process to get it perfect. Now, as long as youre always using the same camera with your RSC 2, they’ve swapped out the mount so that you balance it once, and theres a mechanism to just clip out your camera, and slide and click it back in - poof, still balanced. That and the payload capacity goes up to 3kg from 2kg because of the stronger motors, making this thing just a better gimbal!

    It seems like you're the only person online that actually said the difference between the basic and pro rsc 2 kits!!! I'm definitely getting the pro because even to this day (March 2021) the raveneye is still on backorder and I need that for my plans. Thank you for clearing up what we were all wondering! Had to sub for this.

      I have a sneaking suspicion "back orders" have no intention of ever filling. Its a clever way to make people buy the pro bundle, its just so odd that they and no one else says it out loud! Raveneye is so good!

      I now own an RS2.
      Used plenty of consumer gimbals before, this is next level, but also comes with added complexity, need lots of practice to be ready to use commercially.
      I used to be able to setup, balance and shoot with the Crane V1 in about 2-3 mins. I feel like this needs about 10-15 to setup with raven eye, and then hope to god it all connects on the day. I think one must not underestimate simplicity when considering all the other equipment that may be required to film a job.
      Very happy but prob most annoyed it’s not a manfrotto mount on the camera itself. Whhhyyyy?
      And indeed the reviews stating that the phone mount hits the pan arm is a terrible design flaw! Not sure if that’s a prob on the RSC - I’ve watched too many videos and lost track haha

      I can agree with you on the active track, but EVERYTHING else about this newer SC2 is an upgrade. For me, the click in mount so you dont have to rebalance is just wonderful. And once you DO have this RavenEye thing, and can control stuff from your phone on a big touch screen mounted to the side of it, it definitely makes the gimbal much better to use.

    So if your camera auto focus sucks like the gh5 and have it in manual focus, does the pro combo with the focus wheels turn the camera to an auto focus throughout the raveneye?

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it has the focus motor that will drive your manual focus lens - but for it to do autofocus you have to get one more thing, the 3d focus system. Raven eye is just for object tracking, it relies on the camera to do the autofocusing, but with the 3D focus thing, theres one more module that goes on your camera that DOES make the focus motors into autofocus for manual lenses.
      Heres a link to an overview of it from DJI, th-cam.com/video/_0x0ryJf294/w-d-xo.html

    Great content! would you recommend using Raveneye for a wedding? that's what I am thinking about. Also, I know Raveneye has its own battery, but eventually it'll die and the gimbal can charge it. is there anyway to stop that? I'd rather it just die while shooting a wedding than draining the gimbal's battery too.
    thanks,

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question. I think at this time, you won't be able to use Raveneye without it being charged and therefore draining some of the gimbal.. If you unplug it it won't do its thing.. I guess currently the only work around would be that the RSC2 CAN be charged while in use, so you could strap an external battery to it, those will usually have a screw hole on them somewhere, or just some black gaff tape in a pinch - and that way you'd have so much battery life that it pretty much just wouldn't matter.. That gimbal already lasts like 11 hours as it is...

  • @rapreactionaries5249
    @rapreactionaries5249 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    my main use of one of these gimbals will be for the tracking. I'm currently looking at the ronin s because of the sigma 18-35 i primarily use being so front heavy and the balancing issues and potential stress on the motors with balancing weights etc over the course of time with the regular sc model but the sc2 now says it holds about 6.5 pounds vs the previous 4.4 tested payloads. this new version seems that it would be able to handle it but i'd like to get more opinions or if anyone has experience using that lens with this gimbal and how it worked out for them.

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In fact I have that very same lens, and I mounted it on a relatively heavy camera - the Nikon D500, to test it out and it handles it just fine! So if you have something like literally any sony camera, it would be even lighter..
      But yes, the SC2 is way stronger, way stiffer, and way more stable than the SC, I have them both. Of course, the RS2 would be EVEN stronger, in case you ever started feeling crazy and wanted to use something like a 70-200 on it youd be covered..

    1:51 , is it me or the footage with Active Tracking is a bit jerky/ghosting? You cut from tracking clip to your talking head clip and your movement seems a lot better. Does Active Tracking/RavenEye pose some heavy processing that the camera footage start to become jerky?

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE

      When you can see the tracking info, that’s a screen capture on my phone. And yeah, same with when I do active tracking on the DJI Magic Air 2, it seems that it must use a lot of phone processor power to do the tracking, send commands to the gimbal and screen record at the same time. I’ll bet tracking is using all the cores on my phones processor so that screen recording takes a hit. But the final recording from the camera is quite smooth.
