I have just discovered that, when doing indoor shoots (Like for Real Estate) you can get super smooth forward or reverse motion by using a wheelchair. I happen to have a few due to a former issue sitting in my garage, and realized this. I set it at an angle to my waist and use a neck strap, or even jest strap it to the chair, and you essentially have a super cheap track. I shuffle my feet to move the wheelchair if I am in it, or push it if I tether it to the chair. Absolutely zero walking bounce. (you can pick up a cheap travel chair on the used market for next to nothing, and it’ll fold up and snap in your trunk.)
How about a foldable walker? It is even more compact.
Based on this idea, I just figured out that a spinny office chair is great for pans too!

The ninja walk. It's a classic. We used to have to walk up and down stairs at uni, holding a book on our head whilst looking through the eyepiece of a camera, that trains you real good!

Some good tips! I think I saw somewhere that when walking forwards and doing the ninja walk that it also helps to angle the gimbal forwards too so it can help take a little more shake out of the movement - whereas holding straight up accentuates the shake and prevents the gimbal countering it...,

I was just looking at a DJi ronin s gimbal and then seeing your video explaining a lot of points from how to handle it and what works I was like I need to buy me one even though I already have a DJi Osmo Mobile 3 which I am still learning.
Peter, would you be able to reproduce the same cinematic sequences used in your woodworker b-roll using a gimbal? Or do you find that handheld gives you more freedom.
