This is the best video on RavenEye out there. Thank you!
I have two follow up questions though:
1.) On stills mode are you able to go full manual settings?
2.) On stills mode, does it have an intervalometer?
You know where I'm going with this. I'm planning on putting it on a monopod, tracking a building, and move every 5 seconds or something. It would make for an easy tracking hyperlapse versus the traditional move-shoot-move.

You can also run it through a Ninja V or small HD or any device that has a HDMI in and out back to the raven and it works as well without an splitter and everything will work fine as well..

  • @davidp158
    @davidp158 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for your detailed review!
The RavenEye performance is a bit unreliable for me, but it is a lightweight and affordable transmitter for an iOS device to serve as a basic client monitor. You can send the camera's HDMI signal to a monitor that has an HDMI pass through, you can send the pass through to return to the Raveneye. This adds a bit of additional latency, but at least it works. Adding an additional wireless transmitter and battery power adds more weight, and I prefer to keep my gimbal rig light.
Hopefully DJI will find a way to add an HDMI pass through and the option to allow the power switch to fully disable the charge option to avoid draining the RS 2 battery.

Nice, great, complete video about this RavenEye! I own the RS2 Pro Combo. I noticed (as far as I was able to test&check) that the RavenEye canNOT be used when you connect the Ronin itself using the app… I wanted to test the Panorama… which worked super, but I could not get to see the HDMI-signal at the same time on my iOS device (iPad Pro 12.9”)… Is this right of did/do I overlook something? I tested with my CANON EOS R5. An/any answer will be much appreciated!
Thanks again for your splendid explanation!

Great review! Do your Ronin app cached videos have sound? I don’t ever seem to have sound through the RavenEye when paired with my Canon R5 like I do with my external monitor. Not having sound is making it hard for me to preview my clips in the field because my camera refuses to play audio when an HDMI cable is plugged into it. So I’m having to power off the raveneye to hear my audio and then power it back on and reconnect my phone to use it as a monitor 😂

Very good tutorial! You mention that the screen goes black on the GH5. I found that very annoying, too. Not while shooting, as it is ok to watch via the phone app in most scenarios, but when you need to access the menu between takes. I got into the slightly worrying habit of pulling out the HDMI cable at the cam to do that, until I found a nice WORKAROUND: When you pause the Ronin with a short press of the power button, your camera screen comes up! Has helped me a lot, hope it works for you, too!

Hi all !. I'm struggling with my new RSC-2, Raveneye and my NikonZ6 camera. I connected all the cables based on this video and others. The problem I have is that in the shutter parameter of the Ronin app I can only select 'cache'. No way to select shoot nor shoot+cache. And then I found a message saying the 'camera control cable is disconnected' .. which seems to explain why I cannot select the shoot option of the shutter. But the cable is connected ! What I found out is that when I turn the RSC-2 on, I can immediately see the shoot options available and no error message about control cable disconnected. But after 15 seconds, the shoot options become grey and I have the message back about camera control cable disconnected. And this is repeatable. I checked all the cables and the ports where they are connected. All is OK. I also checked the camera parameters about USB parameters ... but did not really find anytthing helpful. Could that be an hardware or software bug between the RSC-2 and my Nikon Z6 ?
Anyone having experience with connecting the RSC-2 to a Nikon Z6 and having no problem with the control càble ? Thanks for any help ! Looking forward to getting any advice

I went through all camera settings and cannot find any setting to enable the screen. Has anybody found a solution. Secondly I see with RavenEye you can have your video feed display on the back of your gimbal screen instead of using your mobile. You can also draw a box around your subject on the gimbal screen for active track. I can’t seem to enable the Screen on the back of the gimbal, again is this a setting only available for the RS3 Pro Version?4

Great coverage as usual. As of yesterday, I now have an RS 2 combo pack. The Raven eye works as advertised, but with limitations. I really would like it to allow several other devices to connect to it remotely. I want to be able to have a monitor on the gimbal (because my camera also blanks its own monitor when I press record), and to have a monitor for the director. I thought I had a solution (apart from your idea of an HDMI splitter). Hard wire a local monitor, and loop through (HDMI in to HDMI out) to the Raven eye. For some reason this does not work for me. The remote monitor has no picture, even though the Raven eye is connected. Direct wiring is fine, but not with a monitor in the chain. Any thoughts on this?

I've found that I wasted a bunch of money getting the Ninja V and associated small rig attachments to try to get an external monitor attached to the gimbal so I could see what I was doing. Probably not wasted money entirely as I'll be able to use it elsewhere some day, but what I found was, any external hdmi cables attached to the external monitor, interfere with the balance and movement of the gimbal. So, I'm researching this RavenEye, I think will suffice for the wireless video feed with the phone holder that DJI provides. It is possible to have the wireless video feed and turn active track on or off. I dont have any reliability issues, my camera is Canon R5.

3:23 thank you! I was so disappointed when I realised it didn't work with my monitor.. at least there is a workaround.. can you recommend a splitter that would work? I'm not sure what to get..
Also, it's really annoying that the GH5 screen turns off when connected to the gimbal... other annoyances I found was with the focus motor.. I can't use it with lenses with hard stops.. the motor keeps spinning when I use the focus wheel, causing the motor to detach from the lens and put stress on the lens mount! You would think it would work considering the photo on the box shows a camera with a big cinema lens on it! I suppose you can use it if you're careful with the focus wheel.. but I expected the motor to stop spinning when is senses friction.
Another annoyance with the Raven Eye is you can only connect it to once device once! Most wireless transmission systems allow several devices to see the video feed.. it's really annoying.. I was hoping I could use a tablet as a directors monitor and use my phone as well... I kind of feel ripped off...
I feel like the Raven Eye and focus motor aren't really tailored for professional use... it's made for solo shooters who use photography lenses on their DSLRs which isn't good considering the price you pay for the "Pro" Combo..
Would love to know your thoughts on this.. thanks!

On the GH5 sadly this is Panasonic’s firmware limits on using both HDMI and PC tether at the same time. You can use the screen if you disconnect the USB control but then you can use the remote feature.
On the focus stops DJI will be adding this in firmware soon as I understand it. That is part of the next update cycle.

Does your camera have a clean hdmi output ? I’d start there. Make sure there are no osd overlays. What focal length you using as if it too long it’s going to struggle.
Basically it needs a clean input image from the camera.
