Amazing stabilization on the new Ronins especially with Supersmooth on. If it's turned off by default, maybe it's because doing so will preserve motor and battery strength?

The max payload on the RSC2 is 6.6 lbs. I tested it with the R5, an RF to EF adapter, and an EF16-35mm III - and it worked well. That’s a pretty big setup. - The 28-70mm is heavier though, and I’m certain you’d need to rebalance as you zoom, whera’s the Ed 16-35mm zooms internally and I never rebalance it. In your video you seem to suggest that the RSC2 does not support features such as the RavenEye and SuperSmooth? However, both of these features are supported. As far as I can discern, the only feature not supported is the use of the time of flight sensor, which is exclusive to the larger RS2.
Im confused on the nato rail ports on the side. Will my same monitor mount that fits on my Ronin S fit in the RSC2 or will I have to buy all new accessories to mount my monitor to it?
Do you think the RSC2 can support/balance Canon R5 + Adapter + EF 16-35mm f2.8 lens? I've the Zhiyun Crane 2S. Thinking if I should let it go and get the RSC2 due to its compact size and weight.
Great video. Both have their own upgrades from their previous models. However RS2 got the bigger slice of the pie when it comes to upgrades. IF you are a Ronin-S user it is a must to upgrade! You don't want to miss this one. On the RSC2 not much but the foldable design and touchscreen makes it a much better superior than it's predecessor. Hella mate, very good comparison video! I have a Sony A7SIII and a Sigma 24-70 lens which is a bit of a heavy set up but should work on both of these gimbals. Just wondering, when it comes to rebalancing the lens when I change my zoom length, will the larger S2 payload mean that it’s less likely to throw the balancing out of whack when I make zoom length changes?
Yea the goal for me is to get it 95% perfect and then either finish the smoothness in post. That works most of the time, and if you're following a moving subject there's usually no need for post stabilization because their movement masks the imperfections. -Matt
Wow how did you get that shot of the couple standing in front of the water? How did you make it look so good? The dynamic range is nuts! A video on this?

Thanks a load for this video! How much better would you rate the stabilisation on the rs2? That's the thing that matters most to me and what's making the decision harder.
how much better than the original Ronin-S or RSC2? I'll answer for both - The. new models both seem to stabilize better than the original Ronin-S. The differences between both new models are slim, but I still seemed to get better results with the RS2, and really it's not much bigger. The only circumstance that I'd use the RSC2 is for very light travel with no monitor or accessories. Thats the only advantage it has, foldable for small travel.
great review I really enjoyed this honest video. I am thinking about purchasing my first mirrorless camera (Sony a6600 ) and wanted to purchase a gimbal. I had my mind set on a DJI Ronin SC. Do you think that the RSC2 is worth the extra $$$? i will be mainly using this setup for travel vlogs. I look forward to your advice
$279 for the SC is a great price, but the 2nd version will fold for easier travel. Basically you’ll need a backpack style of caring for the SC, and the SC2 can go into messenger bags. I’d decide based on that.
I leave the IBIS on for the R5, but that doesn't help a ton. It depends on what you're shooting, but often times you'll need to apply a bit of post stabilization to make it perfect.
what camera did you have mounted onto it? why? because i need to know if it has steady shot option why? because I need to know if I use this with my canon t7 will it have the same end results
Absolutely NONE of the RS2 reviewers mentioning power outputs. Weak of DJI to pay hush-money for a deal breaker like that. 12v output is essential on any gimbal claiming to be up towards semi-pro.

@@thefilmpoets Thanks, that's exactly the kit I was concerned about. The Sony α7R IV and the 24-70 G Master Lens with a few accessories weigh just over 1.5 kg.
@@brentnora8128 you're good to go. Just remember zooming with that big lens will throw off the balance. If you must zoom without rebalancing, try to think ahead and set your balance at a mid-point, like 40mm or something. That way when you go to 24 or 70 it won't be extremely out of balance. Always best to rebalance though, especially when the body to lens size ratio is out of whack like most mirrorless setups. -Matt
Can I go away without supporting my lens if it's too short to reach the support? Unless you placed the camera somehow closer to the end of the mounting plate, but I can't figure out how.
For regular operation when you're not using a long lens (100mm+) I never support the lens. It's a pain, and in minor jitters introduced can be smoothed out in post. It's worth the tradeoff for extra speed in my opinion, but if I were on a higher end commercial shoot, I'd take the time to do it.
REGARDING FOCUS ON RS2 You mention you tapped the back of the screen to rack focus in the video. Is this referencing the touchscreen on the RS2 or the Sony camera? Also Focus related, the front dial on the RS2 can be used to adjust focus digitally with a connected camera (using supplied cables)? I use the Panasonic GH5 and I've always struggled to get shallow focus with gimbals.
@@thefilmpoets okay great, and light taps on the back of the RS2 screen allows you to adjust focus in the same way as touching the screen on the actual camera? What about the scroll wheel on the front? It can control focus digitally on the camera by hooking a cable up to the camera itself?
@@tallsided Sorry about the confusion. No you cant touch the rear screen of the RS2 for focus, you can only use the front trigger to adjust it. You can touch the rear LCD of a camera thats mounted to it and not see the touch cause a bump in the footage. Hope that makes sense - Matt
Hi Matt, congratulations for the very nice and curated review! But I expected that at least you among the many youtubers, would address the issue of manfrotto plate compatibility, a problem you raised at the time of the first Ronin-s review. Could you let us know if the original manfrotto 500 can fit in the new plate? Thx a lot
You’re right. I actually recorded a section on this, but then realized that I didn’t have enough info. I think that the small manfrotto rc2 plates fit the top, small plate, but I don’t own them. The regular manfrotto plates for fluid heads will NOT fit. They almost do, but they are just slightly too big. Ok the RS2, the gear setup would block it either way. That would suck, but fortunately you’re able to mount a manfrotto 577 receiver to the front of the RS2 plate, and then use regular manfrotto plates on your camera. I worry about this with the rsc2 because the rear of the plate may get pushed out too far and bump things. It works fine on the rs2 though. Hope that helps! -Matt
@@thefilmpoets Thanks for your careful reply Matt. I had little hope for this old problem and unfortunately you confirmed what I feared. How do you think you will move about it on the wedding? Perhaps the best solution, but more expensive, could be to mount the arca swiss receiver on all 501 plates. Alessandro

Thanks for the review! a question, does the raven eye transmission system works as well by itself? I mean, can it be used without the gimbal? or it only works WITH the gimbal. Thanks!
Oh good question. I haven’t tested it, but from the way it works I think it should still be able to transmit the the video signal to the phone. The control of the camera wouldn’t work because that happens through the gimbal.
How would you compare the RSC2 vs. the Weebill-S? First time Gimbal purchaser here, debating between the two, unsure of which to get. Right now B&H has the Weebill-S for $399 and the RSC2 is $499. Thanks!
I’ve never used the weebill, but I can say that DJI is a tough company to beat because they have far more resources than anyone else. I can feel it in the build quality anytime I pick up another gimbal.
RSC2 is foldable and can switch configurations in an instant. Stabilization is also great especially with Supersmooth turned on. I've tried some of the features out when it was launched and I was completely blown away. Sold my Weebill S after two days to get the RSC2.

Subbed, thanks! 😊
which one has the most modes?
They both have three modes (M1-M3)
Would the RSC2 struggle with the weight of a Canon 6D and 24-105mm STM lens? If so I guess I could use it with my Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM lens?
it could handle it fine.
What about ronin s vs rsc2?
great review I really enjoyed this honest video.
@@thefilmpoets ah ok got you, I definitely did not consider the size factor. Thanks for that information.
can i connect the rsc2 to sbus?
Hi, I like soo much you work , amazing. I have Rs2, but I can't shotting smooth footage like you, do you use warp or ibis in your R5? Thanks
I shot most of this with the canon r5, but have used a 1dxII in the past with similar results.
Thanks for info Sir, God bless you. Merry Christmas to all guys!
do they both have super smooth?!
They do!
ronin s or rsc 2? what do you think? what do you prefer?. recently i consider to buy one of them, ronin s second-hand or new rsc 2.
RSC2 hands down.
Absolutely NONE of the RS2 reviewers mentioning power outputs. Weak of DJI to pay hush-money for a deal breaker like that. 12v output is essential on any gimbal claiming to be up towards semi-pro.
From what I heard from Josh Yeo, there is a possibility of 12v output however I think he was hinting towards a DIY option..
@@leedonohue I saw his review, and he didn't mention it. Source? I am one step from pre-ordering. But no 12v is a deal-breaker.
@@kimkrohnberle I asked him
in the comments, thats what he told me. He said it would either require a special cable or modification. So I think he knows more than most but cant talk details apparently. The first devices will be shipped soon and I guess we will have to wait for more user reviews to address this..
@@leedonohue Thank you! Also for confirming my suspicion. These "honest" reviews should be red-flagged and highlighted as paid content. Can't trust anyone anymore.
@@kimkrohnberle Sorry but I don't even know what you mean by power outputs. I run simple setups for weddings. You mean like the ability to send external power to something else?
Highly informative and many thanks. May I ask about payload on the RS 2? Would it handle my Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 85mm prime? I worry this is designed primarily for mirrorless bodies. Thanks in advance.
The RS2 payload is like 10 lbs. It'll do my 1dxII and 24-700mm 2.8 no problem
which camera and lens are you using for those wedding shots?
I'm using the c70 and r5 now. but here's a list - kit.co/thefilmpoets/wedding-kit
i just got the rsc2 how do i unlock the screen it says locked
Hey, at 2:32 that can that be done on both?
Can a rsc2 hold an canon R5 w/battery grip and rf 28-70mm L f2 lens?
not sure on that. rs2 for sure.
In terms of weight, which gimbal is the lighter without a camera attached?
RSC2 with plate and no tripod = 2lbs 13.6oz
RS2 with plate and no tripod = 3lbs 2.9oz
my lens support looks different than yours. Did that come in the box?
Yes thats the one that came with the RS2 (I think, it may have been with he rsc2), but I got it early so they could have changed.
Great comparison. I love the RS2, but what is the lightest payload would you recommend for its 10lb capable motors?
I mean it can take light payloads easily. An a7III with a prime lens would be fine.
@@thefilmpoets So just go with supersmooth if I get it right?
When can I buy the rs2
Do you know how the RS3 will be like? Releasing 15th of June 😲
maybe ;)

REGARDING FOCUS ON RS2
You mention you tapped the back of the screen to rack focus in the video.
The rs2 can handle light taps on the rear of the screen without showing any jitters.

@@Movilavideo yea you could do that too as long as it feels stable.
Great video! Thank you Matt! I was wondering, is there a vertical(portrait) mode on the RS2 like on the RSC2 ? :)
yes I believe they both have vertical mode.
@@thefilmpoets Thanks for your quick response!
Okay, video green horn here. I have an 80D and a 1DX i use for photo stills. Haven't touched on video but the football team would like some video from the sidelines on the game. Which would you suggest for that or do you have another option. I plan to use the 80D. Any tips or guidance would be appreciated.
I like the full frame look of the 1dx, but the crop of the 80D will give you a little more reach if you're stuck far away.
Superb
What lens were you rocking with that band that was playing in the intro?...was some really nice wide feels, but still bokeh pleasing vibes
Mostly the ef 35mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.4 - the really wide shot near the beginning was the 24-105mm
@@thefilmpoets Both those lenes autofocus fine in video on the R5? All the band shots look tack sharp!
@@TechTechReviews oh yea. All EF glass focuses great.
what camera and lens shot the guys playing guitar at the park
That’s the Canon r5 with a 35mm and 85mm prime.
both are support DSLR camera??
yes
Is Supersmooth on the RSC2?
yes it is. I didn't realize when I made this video though!
What's this song in the background? Please tell!
From 3:00 to 4:00
will the rsc2 work with an r5 & 24-105mm
yes but I prefer the first version of the 24-105mm because of it's lower weight. It'll be more balanced throughout the zoom range.
@@thefilmpoets Thanks for the response mate and keep up the amazing work. I already have the RF one so hopefully it will be ok but I am by no means pro so just hoping to learn with it
Thanks for the review! a question, does the raven eye transmission system works as well by itself? I mean, can it be used without the gimbal? or it only works WITH the gimbal. Thanks!
Oh good question. I haven’t tested it, but from the way it works I think it should still be able to transmit the the video signal to the phone. The control of the camera wouldn’t work because that happens through the gimbal.
Asked dji and get the answer.u can use it without connect to the gimbal
5:36 which is the music?
Thats called No Limits - licensed from geni.us/-Musicbed
Has anyone tried the RSC2 out with the BMPCC 6k Pro?
I want that Gimbal
How would you compare the RSC2 vs. the Weebill-S? First time Gimbal purchaser here, debating between the two, unsure of which to get. Right now B&H has the Weebill-S for $399 and the RSC2 is $499. Thanks!
I’ve never used the weebill, but I can say that DJI is a tough company to beat because they have far more resources than anyone else. I can feel it in the build quality anytime I pick up another gimbal.
@@thefilmpoets F' it - just bought the RSC2. Was torn, will probably get burned on a Christmas sale of some sort but oh well!
@@jchambo86 have fun with it!
RSC2 is foldable and can switch configurations in an instant. Stabilization is also great especially with Supersmooth turned on. I've tried some of the features out when it was launched and I was completely blown away. Sold my Weebill S after two days to get the RSC2.
@@caseybooker559 Yea, and it can take the extension handles and be built up to hold a monitor. I really like the idea of it being used for travel and commercial work.
Is there any reason really to turn supersmooth off?
I had it go wonky on me once when not sing any lens support. I'd use it until you have an issue. Remember to auto tune if you switch between the two. I'm not sure if its necessary but the manual makes it sound like you should .
Great.... thx !
