Automatic Camera Tracking - Can the DJI RS2 Follow a Pastor?

  • Camera tracking has improved a lot in recent years and in this video I test how well the Raveneye system works with Active Track 3.0
    If utilizing this system in a live stream you will need to split the HDMI signal before it goes into the raveneye. Either with a wireless HDMI unit that has a loop through like this one amzn.to/3zKnyP3 or an actual HDMI splitter.
    GEAR I MENTIONED
    Dji Rs2 Pro Combo - amzn.to/3zCGLCh
    Dji Ronin Sc (Great Cheaper Gimbal, no raveneye tracking) - amzn.to/2WSZeMP
    Dji Osmo Pocket 2 - amzn.to/3BBlGsu

    Yesterday we used the RS2's Force Mobile feature for the first time during a service and it was AMAZING. It allowed us to place a manned camera of sorts where we wouldn't normally put a camera opp. We put the controlling phone on a tripod in the back of the room and the gimbal on stage. The camera opp reported it was easier to get good moving shots using Force Mobile than it was using a traditional camera on a tripod. Thanks for your video, I didn't know about that feature before your video!

    Nice video. We are interested in this setup but not sure how to connect it to our Atem 2 M/E switcher. I saw where someone else sort of asked this question but not sure I understood your reply. Appreciate any information in detail you can offer. I was also told by B & H that the RavenEye has been discontinued which is a consideration if something else is coming that will be better. Thanks for this and all of your other very helpful videos.

    Hey man, I was wondering if you had the image stabilizer enabled on the 70-200mm while you were doing your telephoto test? Cause some of the awkward movement it was doing reminded me of when I forget to disable image stabilizer when I'm on a locked off shot. I mean, it still wasn't centering you, so it's definitely still got some issues, but I was wondering if it might be a little smoother if image stabilization is disabled.
    I know it sounds counterintuitive but I was just curious if you might want to try that!

  • @VaughnJESW
    @VaughnJESW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for this test. I was seriously considering this for our church a couple months ago, however at our church we have multiple people on the stage throughout the service. I thought it may get confused and start tracking someone else. Do you think that would happen or would it stay locked on?

    • @RylandRussell
      @RylandRussell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It stayed pretty locked with a couple people on stage at once. The thing that confuses it is when you walk in front of each other. I’m not sure I would try to use it with a group unless I had the phone in my hand to choose who to track.

    • @josua2517
      @josua2517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We tried it with a Ronin SC and iPhone on top of it. When someone passes in front of the subject it switched to that person.

  • @aaronjones6843
    @aaronjones6843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So with the Raven Eye it only needs to put the framed box around the subject, you don’t have to have the phone or adapter on the pastors physical body?

    totally was considering this setup for a church plant, but the tight shot gives me pause. head to toe would work fine I'm thinking, but bummer on the tight shot - the gimbal motor just doesn't have the precision at that 200mm focal length? or because the target is bigger (box around you) than close in, it just can't react well? thoughts?

    • @RylandRussell
      @RylandRussell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s the really tight focal length, not the framing. If your camera is closer than ours it would probably perform even better.

    This is really cool.. however it would be truly epic if the gimbal could track using an actual piece of hardware instead of software, then you would hopefully have less tracking errors. Are you aware of any gimbal that will follow a transmitter/device?
    I’m trying to build my cable cam setup to not need an operator, and this is the last piece of the puzzle. I just need the the gimbal to be able to pan on its own to keep the stage centered as the Wiral goes back and forth. I suppose my video switcher could monitor/fix the tracking, but it’s not ideal.

    • @RylandRussell
