There is a lot of confusion around cortisol. Many people are unsure whether or not they may have high cortisol or low cortisol. Today I want to help clear up this confusion.
Symptoms of high cortisol (Cushing’s syndrome):
    • Large waist
    • Thin leg muscles
    • Round face
    • Insomnia
    • Blood sugar issues
    • Atrophy in the gluteus maximus (butt muscles)
    • Acne
    • Allergies
    • Low vitamin D
    • Excessive thinking
    • Osteoporosis
Symptoms of low cortisol (Addison’s syndrome):
    • Thin waist
    • Tan
    • Vitiligo
    • Poor immune system
    • Salt cravings all day long
    • You’re completely burnt out
Cushing’s syndrome is very rare. Addison’s disease is also very rare. However, there can be a subclinical problem with cortisol. This means that it may not show up on a blood test or a saliva test until it’s very advanced. I believe many people have a subclinical cortisol problem that’s hard to detect with certain testing.
With a subclinical cortisol problem, the receptor for cortisol has become downgraded. There is now a cortisol resistance problem. With this situation, you can actually have symptoms of both low cortisol and high cortisol.
To potentially help with cortisol resistance, you need to do whatever you can to inhibit the trigger for cortisol. You need to drop your stress. Isolate where your stress is coming from and do whatever you can to minimize the stress. There are things you can do as far as exercise, diet, nutrients, and even a certain massage technique that I've outlined in other videos. There is also something natural called Panax ginseng that may potentially help, along with lowering your stress.

Interesting topic Dr. Berg. I've been living under constant stress for the past 3 years and my adrenals were so fatigued I could barely get out of bed in the morning and felt so lethargic throughout the day, and to make things worse I used to drink a lot of coffee to keep awake, and of course it was impossible to sleep at night, and when I did, I'd wake up in the middle of the night and never been able to go back to sleep. I even always got dizzy when I stand, which is another sign of adrenal burn out. Then I learned about the ketogenic diet, and within 4 months I managed to bring my blood sugar levels to normal, and started taking nutritional yeast and some adaptogenic herbs (Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Astragalus, Stinging nettle roots, Reishi mushroom, Cordyceps, Lemon balm, Skullcap, Passionflower, Ginseng, Gotu kola, Brahmi, Ginkgo, to name a few), in short I confronted my adrenal fatigue head on very aggressively. I also stopped drinking coffee and tea. Now I feel much better, I can sleep through the night and wake up refreshed and full of energy with a positive outlook, all praise to God. Now I make it my mission to raise the awareness of the people around me about how to combat chronic stress and restore the hormonal balance since so many people are suffering silently without knowing what's wrong with them, and the criminal medical establishment is not helping either, so it's very crucial, I think, that people share their knowledge and experience with these unrecognized conditions by the criminal medical establishment, and that's why I really appreciate what you're doing, Dr. Berg. God bless you!

I started KETO/ IF, supplements 6 weeks ago, stop blood pressure ad thyroid meds, I have all the symptoms you had and I cannot sleep..... I also been watching DR.BERG videos , he has all the answers....Dr.Berg supplements plus the products he recommends elsewhere...
Cleaned my pantry and fridge, ordered organic, grassfed everything.... done 72 hours fasting, no cravings no snacks, OMAD at the moment, at 67 I had 40 pounds to loose, lost 15, exercise 6 times a week in a pool....

Philosophy has been defined as a way to get over the rough spots in life. Find one that works for you. Different meditations, walking, praying, finding gratitude in every waking moment are some good ones.
Actually being fully conscious of a co-worker telling you something that hurts will dissolve it on the spot.
Realize everyone has had tragedy, heartbreaks, horrible misfortunes just like you.
Find a way to help someone who can't pay you back.
What are you here for if not to benefit others?
Upsets can be said to contain 3 items: 1) an undelivered communication 2) unfulfilled expectation and 3) thwarted intention.

Same here. I had a private test done to measure my cortisol. It turned out that I had insufficient cortisol throughout the day. I come alive at 6 pm.
The laboratory said I needed to show my Dr the results of these findings because further investigations need to be done, and this should not be mistaken for Addison's disease.
So I did, and that was last year, 2021. Nothing is being done?
It's now July 2022, and a locum Dr at my surgery reckons to be getting a full blood panel and looking at my adrenals.
Meantime I am going to see a private consultant.
I have lost loads of hair and changes to the cells at the back of my eye.
I do wonder if this is bc of having been left with this problem for so long.

Another issue that has come to my attention recently is the connection between thyroid issues and low cortisol. I had/have low morning cortisol and have had it for about ten years. I was given products to help and they did for a while when I was on them. The problem is that it didn't fix the whole problem. The low cortisol interfered with my body's ability to convert thyroid hormone to the active form properly. I have a high reverse T3 which and CRP with low cortisol which means my T3(the most active part of thyroid hormone at the cell level) isn't able to connect to it's receptor sights. So I feel like I have hypothyroid symptoms all the time even though all the rest of my thyroid labs are normal. I'm in this never ending loop of low cortisol causing t4 conversio to rt3 which causes low cortisol because t3 is being blocked. The only way out is to take thyroid medicine preferably T3 2-3 hours before waking to match the circadian rhythm of cortisol production. I'm currently on NDT so I started taking it in that time frame and man did it make a difference in how I feel. I can only imagine what it would be like if I could be on the correct medicine Good luck getting a doctor to do that. I found this information in the book by Paul Robinson called Recovering with T3. It actually works.

I have low cortisol and am concerned it should be fixed now, my Dr thinks it will bounce back up once things "calm down". I'm concerned that the high cortisol could interfere with the NDT, I had to lower the dose to 15 mg! Just went up to 30 mg 3 days ago, the equivalent dose should be 60 mg of NDT but at that dose I had pounding heart and severe jitters and headache. 😢 Can you please share what I can do to help this now? -Katrina

Am in Arkansas and I grow my own ginseng. I drink tea from it's leaves. I call it "paradox tea" because while I get a calming sensation soon after drinking it, I get a very noticable sense of heightened awareness at the same. No nervous or jittery feeling. Just an energetic one. Drinking it is literally like your senses have a volume knob and you just gently turned it up. One drawback being it tastes very bitter.

Thanks Dr Berg. Glad to c u standing again - I was worried something was wrong. Or maybe ur just getting lazy - just kidding 😉 I was in a very stressful situation for the past 11 years, ended 2 months ago. Now I am riddled with inflammation all over. My doc wants me to go on steroids - I don't want to. So I'm trying to cure it with ur help. I'm out walking every day. I'm intermittent fasting and eating 2 meals in a 4 hour window. I'm eating big salads and lots of veg, with healthy fats and some protein. And doing some acupressure too, I have ur tool thing. No change so far - I'm not expecting an overnight miracle but hoping for some improvement by the new year. I've been burnt out for a long long time so hoping for a way back to health. I do sympathise with others in stressful situations like I was especially if it's a family member. It's not always possible to get away from it. A job is different, u can get another !

I grew up with a sister with narcissistic personality disorder and cried for years when I left and needed a lot of healing. I got sick by 26, 8 years later. Nursing school healed me to help me understand. Id really encourage you to do therapy. Theu can get you on your way and you can have a safe person if you need them in the future..its "funny" how things pop up to trigger past traumas. Take care and you got this!! I've been keto and IF for 3 years and one meal a day most of it..I actually had to wake up early to eat something-- to not fast too long-- for a blood test in 5 hrs LOL.. I haven't eaten this early in probably 6 years! Just remember, everything changes if you change it. You make it happen 🙏🤗🖖

My issue is morning until 3pm I have no energy and can barely function. But after 9pm it's like I feel normal I get energy my muscles are not so tired. I have also noticed when I get low cortisol I break out in rashes and my allergies get worse like my body is fighting to raise it. I'm surprised Dr. Berg didn't recommend intermittent fasting/prolonged fasting for cortisol resistance. It may be because fasting in itself is a stress to the body initially, but rebounds the longer the fast goes on since cortisol usually drops along with insulin. High Cortisol/Cortisol Resistance could be caused by a chronic infection that the body is having trouble fighting or clearing due to not having enough time and more importantly energy due to the body's continuous attempt to balance out chronic elevated insulin levels due to bad eating habits and chronic emotional stress along with the infection. I'm curious what you think of this theory.

      @harryvanda684 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree somehow with your theory. I was experience several symptoms related to low cortisol, including hypoglycemia symptoms (but the blood tests normal). However I am dealing with sibo and gut issues. After take a round of antibiotics, the hypoglycemia symptoms went away, but they returned a month after. I am looking natural alternatives for sibo, since it is not a good idea been on antibiotics often.
