  • Doug Olson's terminal cancer was miraculously cured through genetic modification of his own immune cells. While this sounds like it's straight out of a science fiction novel, many cancer patients are currently receiving this revolutionary new cancer treatment: CAR T cell therapy. Learn about the mechanism, side effects, and the exciting future of CAR T cells in this episode of Medicurio.

As an experienced health professional, I'm impressed to see how a graduate student explains in a simple and educational yet scientific way such difficult pharmacological concepts. I encourage you to continue like that, and I am pleased to follow your videos!

We don't necessarily need a universal CAR T cell. The process is expensive because right now it's artisanal. You need teams of qualified technicians to perform every step of the process. Once you can slot in the bag of blood received from the hospital into a machine and reliably receive the modified CAR T cells with minimal oversight, a massive portion of the costs will be eliminated. From there, the machine can simply be produced in enough quantities that the economy of scale phenomenon takes hold.

You're so great at explaining difficult Pharmacology concepts and medications! You should do more videos on Meds like antidepressants and anxiolytics. The videos you have though are definitely getting me through PA school. Big thank you for that!

My lab works on CAR NK cells. Same killing ability of T cells, no cytokine storm since NK cells do not release as many cytokines

So CAR T cells are like really trigger happy guards given a license to kill (no secondary message needed to activate)
