Hi Fred like Mike Scott said try the original hand mic that came with the FT-450D and see if your audio improves. Also take a Q-tip and spray a little contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and clean the contacts/connectors on the radio and mic side. Also check the switch on the bottom of the mic and move it a few times. Oxidation can build up on its contacts. Good Luck and stay safe Fred. 73 Joe

I now use a Watson WM-308 desk mike on both the Yaesu FT1000mp and my Kenwood TS 940s with fantastic reports Fred...I am pretty sure it goes under various names now but that's what it was called when I purchased it from Knights....73s Fred...stay safe all...
Hi Fred - My MD 100 mic ( used with my 450D) works best for me with all the filters turned OFF on the bottom of the mic and on the radio EQ set to 0 and mic gain on high. Have a go and let me know what you think.. cheers Rob
Personally. I have always had an issue listening to people using echo boxes/mics. I just really struggle to understand what they are saying. We have a local lady who uses one, its built into the rig and she doesnt know how to turn it off. She booms out I can hear her 30 miles away (Im mobile) but she cant hear hardly anyone. I think her husband makes the rig deaf when he's at work. Or she doesnt wanna talk to me coz I dont cuss enough.
@@CB-RADIO-UK I had a melos echo box but I used it as an amp. I kind of regret throwing it in the skip a few years ago. Most of my 'vintage' kit remains tho.
Fred I had the same probs. But I lost audio its the switches under the base.give them a flick back and Fourth a couple of times.I think its just dust 73 jr3303

Nice radio - well into my Foundation licence course and the Yaesu is on my list of possible radios if I pass the exam.
Go for it! The 450 has stopped production so just a few left new now.

Yeah iam not a fan of huge echo as i struggle. I dont mind a slight reverb. Guess its a bit retro.

Possibly a seized crystal in your mic? Very odd issue at any rate.
Think its a connection issue on the plug. Comes and goes.
I have a police scanner do you have one Fred in the shed

I have a couple of old scanners but the police are all digital encrypted now.

They are on every day mate on channel 35 ukfm. Try anytime of day and I'm sure you'll find someone to chat to. They are mostly London based stations.
Yes they on channel 35 FM london based.. Seem to be on and off throughout the day other than a fixed time.
I had a MD 100 Fred and it was very poor with my FT1000mp to the point I ended up selling it...don't rate them at all Fred...
