    You make it look so easy, I have to do 2 front control arms on my MK4, looks like a pain in the hole of a job. Good tip with removing the outer CV for more room though, my worry is a brand new arm will be too stiff to pull down and locate the ball joint.

    Just changed the auxiliary belt, idle pulley and tensioner on my mk4 petrol. The service interval for these belts is a whopping 125,000 miles or 10 years. The tensioner had a little play in it. Not a bad job to do tbh dodging the showers...😊.

    Hi Alan please help, driver side front wheel has a play when you wiggle it 12 and 6. But when it is jacked up, it goes away. What could be the problem?

Well I’m going to attempt the driver side at the weekend so hopefully that will go a bit better.

    Interesting video, I know nothing about Fords, but those big bolts looked like they had thread lock on originally. On assembly you used oil, is this correct? Also was that shiny socket suitable for an impact gun?

    • @ronanwood6891
      @ronanwood6891 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Radfordperson yes they probably had thread lock on. But they will be reyt without it.
      All sockets can be impact sockets if you believe in them 😂😂

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, need freeing oil or those threads can be damaged..they can be tight to bolt back up with fords generous supply of locktite but when tight they won't be ever coming loose

  • @florinovidiumatei4233

    Did you have any issues with the steering rack on the MK4 or MK5? I own a MK4 2L diesel estate and in Romania i heard a lot of issues on these MK4s regarding knocks in the steering rack. I would be curious about whether a rebuild rack would be good enough. What do you think?
    Thanks

    Alan , in your experience on the mk4 mondeo 1.8 tdci 58 plate 97k. Is the fault ‘ P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) "A" Control Circuit High’ an easy fix ? Cheers 🍻

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark
      Hi... yes you can replace the egr valve but it is not cheap.
      Or if you unplug the multi plug from the egr valve and tape it up so dampness does not get into the terminals just drive the car with the egr disconnected... it will drive fine and the eml lamp will stay off

    • @AbsolutesausageJockey
      @AbsolutesausageJockey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alan Howatt Thanks for the reply mate , I was having to reset the eml through a diagnostics device everyday. I’ll give it a go, cheers bud 🍻looked at the prices of the valve , ooh sheesh , see what u mean about the prices. Thanks 🙏

      @AbsolutesausageJockey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark
      Hi. If it is the same code relating to egr control circuit that is the electrical part of the egr. With the plug disconnected the light should not come on so I suspect the problem is elsewhere... are there other codes in the ecu

    • @AbsolutesausageJockey
      @AbsolutesausageJockey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Howatt hi al, when it disconnected it states p0409 low voltage circuit or something like that. So it seems both relate to the electronic side of the egr. Hmm that could be any where I expect. Or could that be related to a bad earth somewhere perhaps, cheers ?

    My 2013 Fusion hasn't quite hit the 20K mile mark...yet. Here's hoping that with Florida's reasonably flat, reasonably smooth roads, that I won't have to replace a ball joint in my lifetime.
    I am guessing all those ridiculously large plastic panels underneath the car are what make these cars so quiet. Until I hit 60-65 mph on most roadways this car almost sounds like it has an electric motor under the bonnet.
