    I've also done this at a garage. What the hell could cause my steering wheel to stay to the left after this job? Cause nothing tracking related is changed from what I can see. Could it be a tie rod end on it's way out? And not setteling properly after being unbolted. Cause I've also got new complete control arms not far back, so it's not the lower ball joints.

      Alan has pointed out that many of the issues with the mk5 are over 200,000 miles. The Mk4 was quite over-engineered it seems 👍 Although I do like the MK5’s bolt on front bearings. Press in bearings are a ball ache!!

    Is it necessary to fully remove the "knuckle" to remove the bearing assembly ? I realize it definitely makes accessing the (4) bolts in the back though.

    I'm getting this but it's more of a squeak not a drone. Eases off 40+mph to the point it goes away.
    Goes away also at slower speeds when turnin right. This the indicator on the brakes rubbing? Thinking it's on offside rear. Getting a little heat as well after distances. 😢😢

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, front bearings are usually more noisy when you put load on them so when you turn left you are loading the offside front bearing.
      heres a test you can try....jack both front wheels up...have someone spin each wheel while you hold your hand on the suspension coil spring...if you feel roughness through the spring while the wheel is turning the bearing is noisey.

    • @alan4x

      on the mk4 mondeo you would need a press to remove the bearing from the hub as it is not bolted on like the mk5 bearing

    or so on the clock? Pretty Please... :)

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats actually not a bad idea for a video, thanks, i think it would be based on what could fall off the car any time soon rather than performance and comfort but yes i will see what i can think of..

    • @WhiteDieselShed
      @WhiteDieselShed 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, mechanical issues and which one would you buy after working on them all?
      So many variables for potential buyers. Lots of ex taxi MK4's out there under £2000.
      Risky purchase or a sound bet for those of us that cover less than 6k miles a year.
      I have a MK3 thats going to need a clutch and a steering rack. But for a bit more i could
      get a MK4?? Would you?? Or would you stick with the MK3? What ratio of Petrol/Diesel
      in the Taxi trade?
      Could be a mini series, A few shorter videos? :) Looking forward to what you have to say.

    Hi Alan, love the channel mate.
    Pom in Australia here.. My mk 5 has a rotational humming noise coming from the rear right (I think) as in.. it changes frequency of hum depending on the car's speed.
    "wum..... wum..... wum... wum..wum.wumwumwumwum.wum..wum...wum....wum.....wum.......wum" Something like that... Lol
    Only done 30,000 kms. My Ford stealer reckons its the bearing, there aren't any in the country apparently, Have you come across a bearing giving up so soon on one of these? Have owned it from new only 7 months old.
    Cheers Mate
    PS... # It's coming home, it's coming home........ #

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, no i have not had a rear bearing fail yet, most of the mk5 mondeos are over 100k miles now but from what you describe it does sound like a bearing and it is quite possible... have had many things fail far too early, i would get it checked properly and replaced quick before it gets worse
