Hes one of the purest voices to actually sing. I have a tremendous amount of vocal respect for what he brought.... Operation Mindcrime was my introduction to them in 88.🎉🎉
My personal favorite Queensryche album is “Promised Land” I grew up listening to them and the maturity of that album to me was the peak. Geoff’s voice is in top form. I have QUEENSRYCHE stories for days. I saw them from their very first tour on up 21 times total over the decades. So much so that Geoff Tate started to recognize me when they toured my city. So much brilliance from the Tate/DeGarmo era of QR, definitely my favorite and was lucky enough to see them live a number of times in the 80s and early 90s. I do enjoy the various iterations of QR since along with Geoffs solo work, but those early records were just a special time for the band creatively.
Which is interesting because his voice was basically shot in the mid to late 1990s from too many years of smoking and hard touring. The last tour I saw them on was Promised Land and he struggled badly with high notes, and bailed out altogether from the signature screams in Queen of the Reich.
I saw Geoff about 5 years ago and he had no high range and struggled with any sustain on a note. Was using a lot of vocalist tricks and ungodly reverb on his mic. What really stood out to me on the video was his natural baritone tone was flawless and his vibrato was excellent and he could hold a note much better. Considering he is in his 60’s I was fairly impressed how good he sounded on the video. We have to realize that all the “usual suspects” that are mentioned along with Geoff from that era are much older now and Father Time spares nobody. None of them are obviously what they were in their 20’s but some still sound fairly good.

Queensryche is a great progressive metal band with a lot of really interesting lyrics in in a lot of their music. They got to be really popular in the late 80s and early to mid-90s. You should do the official video for eyes of a stranger next
I was 15 in '83 when I got their debut EP and a stereo for my birthday.. Two songs from that Queen of the Ryche and The Lady Wore Black should be two more songs of theirs to react to.
I believe this was 1984. I saw the singer do this in 2024. It was a little tuned down and it wasn't 100% this performance but it was still very damn good. He's one of my favorite metal singers of all time.
You must check out the first Queensryche song I ever heard. Blew my mind. Checkout Queen of the Reich live...it's the same concert. This is LIVE. Most guys with that range can't pull it off in studio with multiple takes. He does it live and it is flawless. One of my vocal heros for sure.
This band was very underrated. Chris DeGarmo was a nice guitarist and Scott Rockenfeld was a very adequate drummer. Operation Mindcrime was a masterpiece concept album. They were quite a live show as well.
This is how an E5-Note should sound and sung. Unbelievable high notes. Geoff Tate is probably the greatest Vocalist of all time - and off the past 500 Years.
I've watched probably a dozen reactions to this song from accomplished vocal coaches. I never get tired of watching the reaction whe he hits that E5. :D
@@scottchrismon4492 Love them as well ❤️ But did you ever heard of Ray Alder? I just love this guy. And off course his voice! He's for me the second greatest vocalist of all time. Wich Song to get into? Well... Fates Warning - The Eleventh Hour! Taken from their live album: Still Life! This Version is pure gold. And shows perfectly what this guy is able to do with his voice. Please don't miss it So I would like to recommending this one.❤️ Fates Warning did also something like a tribute to Queensryche s Song Silent Lucidity. It's called "Wish". Something only Queensryche and Fates Warning can do. Love your Channel.❤️ Wishing you all the best. And a good start into this new week. Cheerio ❤️

You're gonna become a Queesnryche fan😅.... for sure!!!!!! Check out Queen of the Reich also from this live performance or a slow ballad like The Lady wore black just amazing musicianship 🔥🔥🔥
Oh, yeah! Being a musician and vocalist myself Geoff Tate is one of my favorite singers. He's a classically trained vocalist with a four-octave vocal range. He had the same vocal teacher as Ann Wilson from the band Heart and Chris Cornell from the band Soundgarden. Nice reaction pretty Red. 🎸💿🎼🎶🎵💿❤❤
I saw them open for KISS on this tour in November 84 and have seen them four other times since over the years. One of my favorite bands from the 80s. Geoff's voice is amazing. If I remember correctly, his mom sang opera and he, himself, has something like an eight octave range. If you ever want to hear an amazing cut that showcases his voice, look for their cover of "Scarborough Fair". I don't believe it was ever released on an album but was released as a single. His vocals in that will give you chills.
@@Ilikeryche I was the B-side the Anybody Listening? release in 1991 and then released in 2003 for the re-mastered Empire album. There's also a Myth version that he recorded before joining QR.
His aunt was an opera singer, supposedly, and his range is, to quote Tate "4 octaves on a good night, if it's not a room full of smoke". Which, to be fair is still amazing, just not as superhuman as 8 😉
Queensryche is on tour in the US (Todd LaTorre is the current singer - he's great!) and they are performing the entire first album 'The Warning' (which includes Queensryche classics like 'Take hold of the flame'... 'En Force'... 'Before the storm'... 'Roads to madness') and their debut 'Queensryche' EP (Songs like 'Queen of the Reich'... 'The lady wore black') Geoff Tate will be on a solo tour in 2025 performing Queensryche's 1988 concept album 'Operation: Mindcrime' (again!)
Great one. I remember in the eighties my sister was totally not into heavy metal/rock and I played her some songs from a few bands. She still didn't like the music but she was stunned by how good some of the singers were. All these rock and metal bands must mean you are overdue some early Def Leppard now. Die Hard The Hunter live (in the round in your face) would be a great place to start.

Glad you found Queensryche , Awesome band . A few suggestions > I will remember studio or live acoustic Lady wore Black " " Eyes of a Stranger studio 🤟😎🤟
Great reation Red!!! He, Bruce Dickinson, Dio, and Rob Halford are the best voices metal has had!!! Always enjoy it when you cover these kind of performances. I was about 14 when their first cassette came out and I heard Queen Of The Reich. Was hooked on them until Degarmo (guitarist) left. After that the writing and music changed. 🤨... Anywho... CHERRS! 🍻👏🤟
Welcome to the world of Quennsryche. One of my Favorite bands of all time. Their first four albums, plus their first ep are all top notch! My Favorite album of all time is "Operation Mindcrime". IT is a complete concept album, exposing the politics, Religion which turns into a tragic love story. You can watch some of the OMV separately or watch the entire opera live "Operation: Mindrcirme" that you can find on TH-cam. But pull up the lyrics and follow along. You can post each video one by one. LOL! Enjoy!
Thanks Red! Another of my favorite bands. If you ever do an album reaction to the concept album Operation Mindcrime it might slay me. Oh, I may have to donate big to make that happen...
If she’s only going to do Eyes of a Stranger and not the whole album, hopefully she’ll do the full version of it rather than the truncated radio/Mtv version.
@@Ilikeryche yeah, while Take Hold of the Flame is great of course, Roads to Madness has always been my favorite song off that album. She’s done Rush, so clearly has the patience to sit through a long epic :)
Red… I might have to agree with some of these suggestions, about perhaps doing an Operation: Mindcrime Full Album reaction… being that it’s a concept album and if you don’t listen to each song in succession, you’ll waste the experience of listening to the story being told… it’s a movie for the mind…. And literally …every.song.kicks.ass Give it a serious think.
Wow, you're doing ALL my favourite bands, Devin, Rush, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Queensryche. Now do 'Suite Sister Mary', for one of the most epic musical experiences you will ever have.
@@rbrebrook… agreed, the album needs to be heard in succession to the story for her to understand what’s behind the emotion portrayed inside the music, lyrics and composition… my only concern is if she can find a quality download. …We may have to help her out.
It is crazy to me how much mileage this song has picked up. I mean it's a great song, don't get me wrong..... but, it was sort of a sleeper when I was released. I was fortunate enough to see them with black and blue and another very good band called Keel in 1984 I believe. They were still a genuinely metal band at that time
You know, keep on the lookout for Geoff Tate's (singer) solo band to be on tour. I've seen him, and he still has a great voice! In the meantime, please react to more Queensryche! Empire is a good song!
… I’ve already sent her the tour dates and cities for Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime “Final Chapter Tour” 2025 … I’ll be at the Lincoln, Ne, St. Charles, Ill and KC shows.
Generally I agree but this is a great live recording so I'm good with it. There's at least one minor difference between this and the studio version though.
Operatic style. Geoff is Elvis! In concert it’s almost impossible to take your eyes off him. And he’s surrounded by a red hot band! Dude commands the stage. Like I said, I’ve seen him do that time after time, up close and personal. Yeah, he recognized me! Ha Ha! Super clean, super tight, super powerful, live band. Operation Mindcrime is considered their masterpiece album. It’s #2 only to PINK FLOYD’S The Wall as one of the greatest concept albums of all time. Listen to it on or off your channel, the whole thing start to finish with NO interruptions like the band intended. Treat it like the movie it is. Have all the words in front of you so you can follow the storyline as you listen to this crazy tale. Epic is the word. It took they world by storm when it came out in the late 80’s. Blew everyone away. Saw them perform it live, TWICE!
^ that … research the story behind the album Operation: Mindcrime before listening… that way you can fully enjoy without rewinding to catch lyrics and plot. It really is mind candy.
@@Ilikeryche … I was thinking the same, only problem is, I looked for a good quality download and not sure one exists… but then again, maybe I didn’t look hard enough
@@kellymoriarityApr66 You probably already know but I just discovered "Pamela Moore" has her own band. I thought she only sang in a choir or something outside of her work with Queensryche. Watched her video here on youtube called "Rise", I thought it was great.
I saw this same tour when they backed up KISS at Cobo Hall In Detroit in 83 Creatures Of The Night tour in fact it was my very first concert was 13 it was a big deal not only was it my friend and mine's first concert it was our first time crossing into a different country for the first time by ourselves . We live in Canada on the other side of the river from Detroit.
Even though Kiss was down in popularity at the time, it’s still rather amazing that Queensryche got an opening spot with them considering that at this point they only had a self-titled EP out. As Tate says at the beginning of this song, their first full album (The Warning) hadn’t even released.
@@Ilikeryche to be fair, I’m just going off of the assumption that this *show* is from the tour that you are talking about combined with what Tate says about the new album coming out soon. I turned 13 in 1984, so I wasn’t quite hard rock/metal concert age at that point even though I’d been listening to that type of stuff for a few years by then.
@@Wyl7 It's possible that I saw them 7 or 8 months after this video was recorded and the album may have been released by then. If I remember correctly I saw this video , bought the album and was not into the rest of the songs at all, they happened to open for Kiss, I was blown away at how good they were live and I loved every minute of it. Been hooked ever since.

Queensryche have had a long career filled with changes and evolving styles. They called themselves 'technical metal' when Rage For Order came out, but their career in general has leaned into progressive metal with a lot of interesting experimental music. But honestly, I never felt that they ever matched the intensity of that first four song EP they released at the start of their careers. The song that started it all was Queen of the Reich, which I strongly recommend you give a listen to. But just the audio. Avoid the music video they made for it because it's so cheesy, it just distracts from the song, which is really a metal masterpiece. In fact, all the songs on that EP are bangers. Take Hold of the Flame was the single from their first major label record. A lot of people love it, but it's just not as heavy as that EP. Being more radio friendly was the sacrifice Queensryche made to get signed by a big label. Luckily, they would revisit the old heaviness in one or two songs on each of their future albums. They're more hard rock than metal now, but their talent as musicians has always been undeniable. Future song considerations from an old fan would be Queen of the Reich, The Lady Wore Black, Della Brown, I am I, and perhaps the entire Operation Mindcrime concept album, but especially the songs Suite Sister Mary and Eyes of a Stranger. Great reaction neighbor!

The band I’m in now does ‘I Don’t Believe In Love’ and ‘Jet City Woman’ … neither are their most difficult songs, but to play them convincingly isn’t easy… if ya don’t follow his off time fills, you kinda ruin the vibe. He has 1 one of top voices of all time. This video/audio in this video is not very good ( japan 1984) and it's more of him hitting like super high notes but if you do more of their official videos from either their operation mindcrime or Empire albums you get a much better sense of once they were a polished band where his voice really shines and they probably had 8 to 10 off videos off those two albums that are all fantastic

Eddie Jackson provides cool baselines and adds a lot of great rhythm with Scott Rockenfield (yes, his REAL name!) on drums. Scott always incorporates unexpected touches, timing changes, and rhythms to his playing.
Such a fantastic band! I really enjoyed hearing your reactions to them too! And don't fight it, you ARE becoming a QR fan 😝 because you know good music when you hear it! ☺️
Queensryche is a great progressive metal band with a lot of really interesting lyrics in in a lot of their music. They got to be really popular in the late 80s and early to mid-90s. You should do the official video for eyes of a stranger next
Geoff was definitely gifted with his singing voice
Geoff had a jet engine of a voice in his prime
I was 15 in '83 when I got their debut EP and a stereo for my birthday..
Two songs from that Queen of the Ryche and The Lady Wore Black should be two more songs of theirs to react to.
I Love your ability to recognize greatness and talent when it comes to music! And you're an amazingly Beautiful Woman to boot! Wow.
Wow, thank you!
I believe this was 1984. I saw the singer do this in 2024. It was a little tuned down and it wasn't 100% this performance but it was still very damn good. He's one of my favorite metal singers of all time.
Chris DeGarmo sighting!!!!
Steve Perry raises his hand.......Uhh just a second. They are my two.. Dio is third.

Love them as well ❤️
But did you ever heard of Ray Alder?
I just love this guy.
And off course his voice!
He's for me the second greatest vocalist of all time.
Wich Song to get into?
Well...
Fates Warning - The Eleventh Hour!
Taken from their live album: Still Life!
This Version is pure gold.
And shows perfectly what this guy is able to do with his voice.
Please don't miss it
So I would like to recommending this one.❤️
Fates Warning did also something like a tribute to Queensryche s Song Silent Lucidity.
It's called "Wish".
Something only Queensryche and Fates Warning can do.
Love your Channel.❤️
Wishing you all the best.
And a good start into this new week.
Cheerio ❤️

I just love all the tiny little expressions Ray did between his Vocals.
This rich and warm voice he has.
For me Ray is a Unicorn.

Della Brown is definitely in my top 10 songs of theirs.

oh Lord girl! you would get lost in my Vinyl collection!
You're gonna become a Queesnryche fan😅.... for sure!!!!!! Check out Queen of the Reich also from this live performance or a slow ballad like The Lady wore black just amazing musicianship 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing band and incredible vocals - been lucky enough to see these guys a couple of times, and they're really special live 🤘
It is on "Take Cover" an album of covers they realeased at some point.
Which, to be fair is still amazing, just not as superhuman as 8 😉
@@rbrebrook I'm not sure what you're asking me, if you are.
@@rbrebrook Geoff was a smoker himself.
if you want to hear rock opera, listen to Suite Sister Mary from Operation: Mind Crime.
Please just do the whole album, with lyrics. Absolutely Brilliant.
'The lady wore black')
Geoff Tate will be on a solo tour in 2025 performing Queensryche's 1988 concept album 'Operation: Mindcrime' (again!)
Their third album, Rage for Order every song is a 10. I saw them perform live twice, once opening for Metallica, that was cool.
I just saw them this past Sunday. Different lineup but still the same ultra-amazing sound!!
I have to hear Silent Lucidity at least 5 times a year. All of Operation Mindcrime and Empire is good!
Red Congratulations on 34k subscribers you never cease to amaze me and I am so very proud of you and all of your hard work you do every day it doesn't go noticed 💯💯💯💯 We all just adore you ❤❤❤ #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #34K #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #bestbadjokes
A SONG OF HOPE
Glad you found Queensryche , Awesome band . A few suggestions >
I will remember studio or live acoustic
Lady wore Black " "
Eyes of a Stranger studio
🤟😎🤟
Great reation Red!!! He, Bruce Dickinson, Dio, and Rob Halford are the best voices metal has had!!! Always enjoy it when you cover these kind of performances. I was about 14 when their first cassette came out and I heard Queen Of The Reich. Was hooked on them until Degarmo (guitarist) left. After that the writing and music changed. 🤨... Anywho... CHERRS! 🍻👏🤟
I got to see Geoff Tate last Feb. and he is still killin it .
Almost killing it. Age and cigarettes have made an impact.
LOL! Enjoy!
Yes!! I hoped you would do this! Tate, Sebastian Bach and Dio were the best rock/metal vocalists. Oh yeah, Steve Perry and Bryan Adams are a must!
I ranked this live show so high for being one of the best of all time 🖐️ tx for the react 🤟
Just seen Queensryche last Wednesday performing their EP and The Warning in their entirety!
Thank you for reaction!
Yeah you done it again Red ❤❤❤
One of there greatest songs
powerfull
Thanks Red! Another of my favorite bands. If you ever do an album reaction to the concept album Operation Mindcrime it might slay me. Oh, I may have to donate big to make that happen...
Opera style😊😊😮
If you’d like to make it 3 outa 3 “Eyes of A Stranger” should be next.
That entire album should be next, not just Eyes of a Stranger.
If she’s only going to do Eyes of a Stranger and not the whole album, hopefully she’ll do the full version of it rather than the truncated radio/Mtv version.
I would go with "Roads To Madness".
@@Ilikeryche yeah, while Take Hold of the Flame is great of course, Roads to Madness has always been my favorite song off that album. She’s done Rush, so clearly has the patience to sit through a long epic :)
The Lady wore black is my favorite from this awesome band 🤘
Now check out "Eyes of a stranger", also by Queensryche.
It is fire as well.
Great job Sugar Britches! 😊😊👍👍
OPERATION MIND CRIME .
Listen from being to end best concept CD ever made well OK next to 2112. Lol ❤❤❤❤
Might be better than 2112, I never thought about that actually.
Red… I might have to agree with some of these suggestions, about perhaps doing an Operation: Mindcrime Full Album reaction… being that it’s a concept album and if you don’t listen to each song in succession, you’ll waste the experience of listening to the story being told… it’s a movie for the mind…. And literally …every.song.kicks.ass
Give it a serious think.
100%
Wow, you're doing ALL my favourite bands, Devin, Rush, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Queensryche. Now do 'Suite Sister Mary', for one of the most epic musical experiences you will ever have.
I recommend the live version from Operation:Livecrime
@@rbrebrook… agreed, the album needs to be heard in succession to the story for her to understand what’s behind the emotion portrayed inside the music, lyrics and composition… my only concern is if she can find a quality download.
…We may have to help her out.
OM is amazing. Also a huge Rush fan too.
It is crazy to me how much mileage this song has picked up. I mean it's a great song, don't get me wrong..... but, it was sort of a sleeper when I was released. I was fortunate enough to see them with black and blue and another very good band called Keel in 1984 I believe. They were still a genuinely metal band at that time
Where were you released from? Black n Blue and Keel, I thought only I listened to them or at least used to, haven't heard either for a lot of years.
@@Ilikeryche crazy right?
You know, keep on the lookout for Geoff Tate's (singer) solo band to be on tour. I've seen him, and he still has a great voice! In the meantime, please react to more Queensryche! Empire is a good song!
His voice isn't what it used to be.
… I’ve already sent her the tour dates and cities for Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime “Final Chapter Tour” 2025 … I’ll be at the Lincoln, Ne, St. Charles, Ill and KC shows.
I always thought that anyone who reacts to the live version should listen to the studio version as well.
Yeah sometimes… personally tho, this version is better in my unbiased opinion
She should see the "Operation Livecrime" video.
@@Ilikeryche … her sister Aubry is also quite a talent aswell… I think she’s a bit more blues influenced.?
Oh, I meant to add… my first QR tour was Rage for Order, and if memory serves they were opening for Kiss then too (Animalize?)
@@Wyl7 I saw this tour and I'm positive I owned The Warning album at the time. Maybe not though.
❤❤❤
Hi beautiful 😍 i was 22 when it was out The warning album fire every albums up to empire was excellent he was singing over 60 minutes when he sang this his range phenomenal opera trained singer to be expected also dive into react to whole operation mindcrime album and walk in the shadows off rage for order empire best i can jet city woman, raining night without you all really good
Think about this, this song was near the end of the concert.
You are most beautiful woman by the way the highest note he's hitting is an E5 I'm a trained singer 4 octave range when healthy he's a baritone so singing up to E5 is insane
Saw them open for KISS back in 85

Scott Rockenfield 🔥🔥🔥
He’s a f’n badass
I think he's unique, got his own thing going on.
@@remembertomorrow6737 … I’ve been in (what feels like) a million cover bands. Ive learned Rush songs, I’ve learned Dream Theater stuff… let me just say, learning to mimic Rockenfield’s style and fills was just as much a challenge… very unique approach to the songs. The band I’m in now does ‘I Don’t Believe In Love’ and ‘Jet City Woman’ … neither are their most difficult songs, but to play them convincingly isn’t easy… if ya don’t follow his off time fills, you kinda ruin the vibe. Rockenfield is GREAT
I'm a guitarist so you can imagine how special he is. Greetings from Spain.
Still...... please react to "Eyes of a Stranger"
You really need to check out Operation: Mindcrime!! You'll thank me later.
