I BOUGHT THE FAKE. My way of giving Swatch the middle finger. I waited all night in line for only 70 available pieces went to store many time and nothing. Wearing a fake 250 plastic watch is not flexing not the same as a fake Rolex. All my watch friends geeks think the same ..Swatch fkd up not making them easily available to everyone as they promised online..
The actual scary thing is, that the Copy houses the superior movement - a Seiko 7T62. The ETA chrono V8 (in the original) ticks and misses the marks pretty much all the time. The copy however manages to have an actual sweep chrono like a real mechanical to messure time 5 times a second, where as the ETA only 1 time per second. For 1p times the price, that is disappointing ..... very sad. (Update - its a Sunon PE50, not Seiko)
I doubt that the fakes have a Seiko movement, especially an old one like that, the subdial layout on that one is wrong for the Moonswatch. The more expensive ones maybe have a Miyota JS00 or Seiko VR34 or VK68 but the cheaper ones (25£ around there) most likely have a cheap Sunon PE50. They are cheap to replace and since you can open the fake (unlike the original) you can even do that yourself.
The movement used for the fake watch I own also sweeps and has a 24h dial function at three o clock, the real one measures 1/10sec with the chronograph running. Also, there are more than one manufacturer of these fakes and color can vary, mine looks even closer to the original.
I don’t doubt it that both the copy and the original are extremely cheap to manufacture, but what makes you think that the copy is more expansive? Just from this video you can see the discoloration on the plastics.
Actually since (I am told) the “mechanism” or “movement” (lol 😂) is a tad more expensive and arguably better “ quality” in the fake, the fake is the one to collect. Not the Swatch. Omega need to take a good long hard look at themselves. I’ll never buy an Omega now, like I would never have bought a Swatch.
If you want a real moonwatch, but don't have/don't want to spend the money on an Omega, you could also look for a Bulova Lunar Pilot. This is as much a moonwatch as the Omega, but nobody knows about it. I opted for the Bulova, since I don't want to be a slave to the Swatch store where I have to go every week to see if there's stock, and in the end, you just have a plastic watch without any heritage. It just looks a bit like a moonwatch, but it's nothing. And it's plastic with a fancy name, and a scratchy plastic 'glass'. Somebody commented that Swatch employed the Apple marketing tactic by creating a shortage and a lot of hype, and it worked. Hats off to Swatch. I was tempted to buy one, but I resisted in the end and got myself a LE of the Bulova. Looks better, is an original with heritage and not made of plastic.
This is what I did. The Speedy Pro is my grail watch. Some day. But when these Moonswatch variants were announced, I really wanted one. Was gonna buy like two of them. But there are no Swatch stores near me, you can't buy them online, and I'm not paying over MSRP for a plastic watch. So I got the Bulova Lunar Pilot and I absolutely love it. Such a beautiful dial, feels great on the wrist, and still has that space exploration history associated with it like the Speedy Pro for way cheaper.
@@damiengrief The Omega SpeedMaster is way too expensive. A friend of me has one, a real original one from 1965, so without the stuff about it being the first watch on the moon etc. It's priceless at the moment. He bought it a long time ago for a price that I'd buy one for at this moment too. But now it's north of €20k I believe, so I won't even think about it.
@RitaSano-tz4wyhonestly, this plastic watch is not work the asking price. I completely believe this watch is fine to buy a replica. If you are buying fake Rolexes, that is not right. Cringy and dishonest. This plastic watch isn’t the same situation.
I know it’s silly but i find the fake one’s better looking the the original. I love the semi matte texture on the bezel and thinner fonts inside the dial! 😅
Hello from Spain. To distinguish the original from the copy, we can look at the length of the minute marks around 6 o'clock. The original has only 2 long marks between 6 and 7 o'clock, and between 5 and 6 o'clock. The copy has 3 on each side.
The moonswatch is in that rare club in which the original watch is so bad that the replica is essentially comparable, and may even be superior, to the original.
@@williamsipe1151 yeah the skx had its run but i dont get why people still insist on It since you can get better diver from the other japanese watches.
I’ve had one and not impressed with it one little bit. Have gave it to my teenager to wear, she likes it. The copy is probably better than the original. They are so over priced for what they are. I get a better thrill wearing my casioak!
Thanks for this Tim. What makes things more complicated for a buyer is that there are slight variations in the originals themselves. I have 2 Mars watches, both bought from London Oxford St. and Covent Garden and there is a slight difference in the text on the strap (slightly darker black text)
So it poses a moral dilemma to some to buy a rep from swissarex that is same as original watch rather than supporting a Swiss non-profit with huge mark-up that benefits charities in one of the richest countries on earth, while they already sell everything they make without a problem? Okay fine, buy the genuine article. It won’t be any more accurate, durable or attractive, nor will anyone notice or care. It's your money, do what you want. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in paying homage to the original designers and/or founders, but they are long gone. I mean, if you’re driving an Escalade, you own a rebadged Tahoe. The badge only means so much, so why not just state what it’s really meant to represent? Steinhart and the rep factories are both selling clones but only one is honest about what they're copying.
Precisely. The fake has a flat, matte finish on the bezel; the real version is shinier and textured. You can also note the difference (albeit slight) in the band loops - the real one has a bit of a flatness to it and is also matte, the fake is purely round, smooth, and shiny. There are a ton of other things too, but I'd be waxing poetic.
@@myschevious11 And the fake is better purely due to price point lol. These MoonSwatches are such garbage it's unbelievable that Swatch is charging $300 for these when you can buy a Seiko with far better build quality, better quartz movement for half the price.
@@songoku-jx3cb There can be many points. Swatch’s marketing has resulted in more Moonwatch sales for Omega. And China is manufacturing 1:1 copies to satisfy the demands of the market due to artificial scarcity.
@@tallon3925 nope the point of artificial scarcity was to create ruckus if this was easily available and anyone could get one it would be useless scarcity is what created this hype Stop acting like the fake watches industry doesnt exist its not limited to moonswatch
I bought a real Speedmaster in March, then I saw the Swatch and was amazed. It was a must have. But then I saw how this starts, like some fancy Apple product. So I decided to wait, friends got me a coupon end of May for my birthday. The Swatch store is no help, was there 2 times and they are not able to tell you when they have your preferred model. Ended up in buying a copy from China. So thats a sort of marketing that went wrong IMHO in some parts. And now the guys with the knock offs make their profit. It's not like I was not will to pay the price, but I have no time to visit the shop over and over again.
The replica watch market has come a long long way. On most luxury brand watches the pros are unable to identify which is real and which is fake. They have to go under the microscope to spot minute differences in details which to the naked eye would not be seen. And I'm talking even the movement.
I've had the opportunity to study one of these fakes up close - I'll tell you what I found: 1) yes to the box. Flat vs. textured. Shiny vs. bland. Vivid color and detail in planets vs. overcorrected color. Also, on the fake boxes, all of the text on the planets is white, vs. white and black for readability on the original box. Folding style is the same, but is much less precise on the sharpness of the folds than the original box. Also, my box has that same stupid typo... made me laugh out loud! 2) Notes on the band: Text style was ever so slightly different between the two. Cleaner on the original - appeared like the "ink" or paint was put on just a smidge too heavily on the fake. Also definite splotchiness in some of the lettering; a huge factor that would not pass either Omega or Swatches QC requirements. On mine, the stitching was also different between the two. The real one had even thread, evenly spaced out, the seams weren't threaded tightly together. On the fake one, the stitching was overdone. 3) Band loop plastic: Real one has a bit of a matte finish/appearance to it, and has a bit of a flatness along the top/bottom in the shape. The fake one is shiny, and entirely round. 4) Watch face: Real version's bezel is shiny and textured, text is very crisp and clearly printed. There's a definite 3Dness about the lume markers. The fake version's bezel is flat in appearance; no shine, and no texture. Mine also had water/oil stains on it (eyeroll). The lens/crystal on the real one has a slight curvature to the top - it's not flat, and the edges along the bezel are curved fairly smoothly, creating a kaleidoscope type view when moving it at different angles in direct light. The fake version's lens is flat and has a steeper edge to it. You can see the (barely) visible serial number along the bottom (between the "6" point lume and the counter) when you hold the watch in the light. Does not exist on the fake. Neither does the easter egg - the barely visible "S" that's on the real versions. Lume marker at the "12"/"60" point do not line up on the fakes. Even if the fakes have finally started to "nail" the "dot over 90" signature of Omega, they did still fail at that... Hands - obvious differences in the hands. Lume on the real versions extends almost all the way down the length of the hour and minute hands. Not so on the fakes. 5) Watch plastic: Too lightweight by comparison. Also smooth; no texture to it. The real versions have a slight grainy texture to them. Feels like 3D printer plastic, not a ceramic mix. Also, the "lines" (angles) along the various shapes of the case are kinda blurry looking; not as sharp/crisp as they are on the real versions. You noted this when talking about the crown - the angles are very precise along the outside of the crown on the real version; they're "blurred" (sloppy) looking on the fake. The text on the back may say the same info, but it also is "blurred." You can tell it's not imprinted as strongly or crisply on the fake as the real version. That's likely a result of the type of plastic used. Also, you already noted the color tint difference between the two plastics. Spot on. I also had a bunch of edges that weren't clean - they were jagged, or had extra plastic along the molding lines. Again, this would never have passed either company's QC requirements. 6) One last thing to note as I've already overdone this to the point of being past pedantry... The moon which is what covers the battery. Technically, you should be able to remove the moon so you can replace the battery. On the real version, the bioceramic has a very defined gap at the bottom-most point to make that accessible; it also has some "depth" in that there's a lip all the way around. On my fake, that gap barely exists; the moon is literally just a sticker stuck to the back of the case. There is no access. If you read this far... I'm amazed, and thank you. I had fun with this little research project (I am only an amateur collector, but I have collected Swatches since childhood and I have been a long-time desirer of a Moonwatch, so I might be a little obsessed with the details.
" I have been a long-time desirer of a Moonwatch..." Same here. What you said about the fake having a flat crystal is a deal breaker for me. I'm pretty obsessed with the details also. So glad I read your comment. Thanks!
I got mine today for $30 with postage and no box. looks really really good but the 1/10 second dial doesn't work right. it just repeats the hour hand. In addition, I ordered a metal version. It seems to me that it is more durable than ceramic
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from amzwatch and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
I had feared this would happen. We don’t have many Swatch shops in the states so eBay is one of our only options. Pretty scary how close they’ve come…. And with pent up demand I’m sure some people will buy one to hold them over until the real thing.
My replies have hacked this channel. I have written to Tim. I was told I had won a MacBook M1 and their language was nothing like the behaviour Tim would have approved.
The confuse matters even more, Tim's main difference was the colour of the bio ceramic material but company themselves say that the material is different in colour, there are variations anyway. So colour may not be an obvious indicator.
I noticed many many differences in these, mainly in the case. The copy is probably all plastic with no ceramic. The original case, pushers and crown have that sharp, clean, almost machined look. Same with the text on the case back. You can also see the dial is very different, especially in the glare.
Hey Tim, great video! I put out a similar one on the fake moonswatches on my channel recently after hearing about a couple of ppl who were sold fakes on eBay thinking they were real - and at the inflated prices being charged by the scalpers of course! Great to know you're a watch guy as well as a car guy and I look forward to more watch content 👍
Cant imagine how cool and op they will look on display when the meznen will be finished and all the watches and model cars will be in the glass cabinets... 😅☺🙂🙃
nkuwan You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much
A $20 watch... the original and the fake. I bought a Mission to Mercury. Thought I was lucky at Swatch London. The glass scratched up within a week and I broke a pusher button off before the first month of wear. It's a fragile plastic toy, not a serious daily wear watch.I bought a solid stainless Seiko diver with automatic movement for the same price and I think it could last a lifetime rather than a few month.
The main tell that you didn't mention that can be spotted from a mile away is simply the 2o'clock dial, which is actually a 24hour dial in the fake. So basically useless when you keep the original 10th of a second design from the original. Not scary so far, until they replace the meca quartz movement with a clone of the swatch movement, then you won't be able to tell the difference.
Yea that's the problem with mine, 2 o'clock dial constantly turns as a new hour passes.. That's really the only call out. Also, there's no "hidden" S in the middle of the plastic crystal. Still looks like a happy meal toy just like the original lol
I got so sick of trying to find a moonswatch, so I ended up buying a last gen seamaster 120m chronometer! A piece that i honestly think is slept on! Also side note, I did not know that Schmee loves watches but im glad I came across this channel! I look forward to seeing more!
@@hank1537 I just remembered about these Moonswatches after forgetting about them for months. Started calling around and Yorkdale has them. Wanted one again now that they're available. $378 after tax is such a rip off for this garbage. The amount of reviews i saw with peoples Moonswatches breaking is unreal. I'm glad i was too lazy to wait in long line ups to get these and slept on it. No way im giving Swatch damn near $400 for a watch that costs them $7 to make. There are much better built Seikos, similar design and cheaper by about a $100. Was just about to head over to yorkdale and buy one too, glad i looked up reviews after they've been out for over a year.
Great video and nicely compared as well! Scarily close replica and I like the fact that the 2 o'clock subdial is a 24hr indicator tbh. Yes, 10% less which means you can buy all 10 for the price of one - which are not available at the moment and selling on the grey market for MUCH MUCH more. Whovever is paying those crazy prices are ot of their mind. I've heard from a few collectors that the Omega Moon Swatches cost $7 to manufacture, which is probably what these DHGate ones cost. Looking forward to your Panda Daytona Replica video lol
Idk but I feel like the shmuseum has more of a garage feel than a museum. I know i know they're still building it but I feel like that's the vibe it will always have
I'm a G-Shock wearer now, but I'll never forget my Navy Blue Swatch,in the 90's, having luminous dials that stayed lit till the next daylight....The only watch I've seen to do so....Ha !!
Got a couple a 41mm Tiffany OP and a Black GMT 116710LN from swissarex, the GMT is unbelievable, having owned both a Original and the Fake there's no difference at all.
Came across this video last night whilst searching instructions on how to use tachymetre on newly acquired Mission to Mercury. Recognised one the cars in the background from yesterday’s Salon Prive then realised it was you Schwatch150 that “co-presented” the supercar drive through. Nice work! Thanks for enhancing my Saturday day cars and watches activity
This launch left me disgusted with Swatch and Omega. This was a promise broken in a bad way. I was so hyped I saved up to buy every model once they were available online. Now I am left heartbroken and I see these watches as an offence to the common consumer. What started as a boost for both Swatch and Omega ended as a crash and burn that left Swatch looking like amateurs and Omega like they are morons for letting Swatch botch this so badly. Swatch hit the homerun of the century and managed to fuck it up in a way that seems inexplicable. How do you go from the best watch collaboration in the past two centuries too the biggest marketing blunder since claiming lead in fuel is good in a matter of months? Someone in either Swatch or Omega has major brain damage is my best guess.
The very least Swatch could do was offer them online to Swatch club members. They are disregarding customers loyalty over the years in favour of feeding the flippers market. After nearly 40 of buying Swatches I'm out.
True, and as a result, ppl like me, that have a job and friends, with no time to stand in a line for hours, or visit the store for several times, buy a knock off online. Most ppl that buy these at the store have the intention to sell them online. With an online supply this would immediately stop and you wouldn't have long lines at the stores anymore.
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops! amzwatch watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Excellent video Tim, would love it if you could please do the same with your rolex as there is now AAA+ QUALITY REPLICA out there and the way that you spoke about the both of them and the the way we all got to see your reaction for the first time actually made me visualise much much better, cheers once again Tim. Keep up the good work.
I've seen replicas advertised as 1 to 1. I follow many factories that make fakes cuz they have good products lol. A comparison with a 2022 fake Rolex would be very interesting.
The most obvious thing was missed. The bezel markings at 12 and 6 don't line up. It's so in your face, once you see it, it's impossible to unsee it. Also could you confirm if the FAKE has the "s" etched on the center of crystal as the original does? Thanks for the video Tim.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
I ordered a fake Moon as well, to hold me over until Swatch gets their act together. I definitely intend to buy a Real Mars version whenever they become available. The most obvious difference that you haven’t pointed out is that the top-right sundial on the Fake is actually a 24hr indicator… i figured this out when i wasn’t able to re-set the hand in the usual manner for other chronos
but for a 10th the price, it's a good watch, considering how much Swatch is making a profit. The Chinese Swatch is already making a profit. plastic is plastic. and a quartz timepiece are also not the cost. do you understand. and why can china make them in large quantities. and Swatch Not. can you dig it
buy a homage instead, got a pagani design homage and it's way way better than my moonswatch swatch made for half the price. the pagani design speedmaster now comes in moonswatch colors which I highly suggest if you want a watch that lasts for more than a couple of months
At this point you start to think, why not just buy a fake because it proves the real one is just overpriced because other people can make and sell it at a fraction of the price
Interesting comparison: I would have liked to seen the comparison of the chrono function. It is well known that the original's function is very shoddy. It ticks just once per second and the Chrono seconds hand misses the markers. There is no excuse for this! This should have been calibrated properly. Also wonder if the crystal on the fake is better than the original which scratches so easily even if you stare it too hard. Wouldn't at all surprised if the fake sports a sapphire?
When the fake becomes better than the real. It’s also a quartz, how difficult is it to clone a quartz. They have no sweeping hand to worry, don’t have a stainless steel case to worry about, and don’t have a bracelet to worry. It’s literally a free reign for people to copy them.
Well, they didn't put an appropriate movement in. TBH, they should have just not bothered putting fake logos on the dial and strap and set the 3 O'clock subdial with 24 hour markings and sold it as a 'lookalike'/'homage' instead of an outright fake - People would still have bought it just to give Swatch the V signs for feeding the scalper market.
You’d almost consider going for the fake one since the real Moonswatch is so hard to obtain. I’ve been to many different Swatch stores on multiple days but never been able to get a hold on the Moonswatch. I’m almost at a point to just give up on searching for one. I wish Swatch will start selling them online soon. I’d never buy a fake watch with the more expensive brands like Rolex or Omega but for a plastic 250 euro watch it would be an option for many people I guess.
I got one for $16 on aliexpress. No way in hell I'd pay scalpers for a real one and I don't live close to a Swatch store so I'm not going to pass up getting one delivered to my door for 5% of the cost. They're both trash, plastic watches so it doesn't matter to me if it's real or fake.
You are not wrong. The originals are actually cheaper watches than the replicas. China does not yet have the technology to produce watches that cheaply. The fakes are better, even has a real mineral crystal. As foe the movement there is basically nothing cheaper than what Swatch used.
I think what they did with these watches is cool, I still want to buy a Mercury one to wear every day to work. But the whole release has been a complete mess, saying they’ll eventually be sold online in large quantities and then going back on their words. It’s like they’re purposely trying to keep the hype going rather than just making some interesting but affordable watches for a wider audience, and it has put a sour taste on it all. I don’t blame people at all for buying or selling fake ones.
The replica watch world is getting crazy good, but like most things, the more you pay the higher quality it is. If you go really high end, unless you're an expert it would be very hard to tell, but for the prices of the super high end replica/fake/knock off Rolex/omega/AP/whatever, you can normally buy a reasonably high end watch from another luxury brand such as Oris, Hamilton, longines, rado. Then the homage world has seen similar developments over the last few years too, the quality of the work and materials used in some homages is really quite impressive.
That’s a good thing. Swatch allows the flippers resell them as a higher price online. The more people have it, real or fake, the more depreciation real one will be. Swatch marketing team sucks
Swatch shot themselves in the foot with this. Yes the hype is good for them but it’s fuelled the criminals. I personally would not buy a fake as wearing that plastic on your wrist, god knows what chemicals are in it.
The other difference is the fake has a removable back, but the original only the small moon comes off for battery changes. The fake also reveals has a fake Renata 394 battery when you take off the small moon, and the real LR920 battery is only accessible if you take the back off.
I am more worried about paying real prices for a fake with these watches. Fake ones are better quality and lower price. Fake ones actually have a mineral crystal glass.
Tim, great piece, I can spot other differences too. I have been very unhappy with Swatch over these watches as I live many miles away from their stores and whilst their marketing has created quite a “stir”, I feel that they have upset many existing online customers. Some people are selling these on at three times the price and there is no way I would buy them but similarly it would cost me three times the price and more to visit one of the limited stores. Whilst they are lovely watches this campaign has put me off the brand in a big way. You are fortunate to live near a store.
The quickest givaway is that the 2 a clock little dial on the original is Chronograph Hour counter and will normaly rest at 0 while the fake actually has a 24 h function only being at 0 at midnight.
I finally managed to get a real Moonswatch. The copy that I bought over a year ago is so accurate, the only way to tell is that the copy has a sweep second hand. Even the packaging is spot on.
Very close but the hour markers give it away as well as the colour. Best wait for the watch and buy it from Swatch direct or one of the dealers it recommends on its website, save the risk of getting a fake then.
I noticed one detail you can tell the real Swatch from the fake and it's on the bracelet itself that holds the watch. A square has been sewn around the text Swatch and here you can see that the stitching on the real one is closer to the edge of the band and then a bigger gap between the S and the stitching and the h and the stitching. Whereas on the fake, the square box is smaller and the stitching is closer to the letters S and h in the Swatch. If you take the black boxes, the watches are in, so the surface of the real one looks a bit rough, while the fake one is smooth. The same thing on the outside, the gray boxes have the same surface condition as the black ones. But as I said if you only see the watches without the boxes, it's how they sewed around the text Swatch that you quickly see the difference, even if you only see a picture of the fake Swatch watch, it's the stitching that you look at and see if it's real or not. Then you look at the rest of the watch arm, so the fake has uneven lugs, compared to the real one which has neatly sewn lugs around the Speedmaster name. Since the real one has a shorter piece of leather that says Speedmaster and the fake one has a much larger piece of leather.
Very interesting video and my introduction to your channel. I’ve subscribed and am now enjoying looking through the back catalogue. Happy New Year to you and yours 🎉
The main tell is the sub dial at 2. It doesn't split into tenths of a second. I actually bought a replica, based on the fact that most of the watch reviwers reported it was an overpriced "toy" experience. I therefore spent 25 quid instead of 250 and if it gets scratched or breaks ( like many of the originals have done so far) then my exposure is minimal. I dont think they will be able to replicate the new Swatch Blancpain "Fifty Fathoms"as cheaply and a move to a mechanical movement will not make buying the replica a cheap "throw away" like the moonswatch replicas.
The difference is quite noticeable when they are side by side. The clone case, strap and bezel are not nearly as well finished. The secondary hands are longer as well.
I agree with Jim, I'd rather have one of the fakes (one with the Seiko vk63 movement) instead of the real one witch appears to be completed garbage at n ridiculous price, I can get a much better watch for a lot less money.
Thanks for the video, you missed a big functional difference between the fake and the real one, the 1/10th of a second dial on the original actually counts tenths of a second like a real Speedmaster does, but on the fake it just rotates every 12 hours, geared to the main hour hand. (The dial top right, should count tenths of a second when the Tachymeter function is used, top push button). Then you can time to tenths of a second, the fake will not do that.
Omega and the Swatch group once again clawing defeat from the jaws of victory. Every time they manage to create something good for them, they always seem to find news ways to screw it up royally for themselves and the potential long time customers they are desperatly trying to snatch away from the other major players in the Swiss watch industry.

I doubt that the fakes have a Seiko movement, especially an old one like that, the subdial layout on that one is wrong for the Moonswatch. The more expensive ones maybe have a Miyota JS00 or Seiko VR34 or VK68 but the cheaper ones (25£ around there) most likely have a cheap Sunon PE50. the genuine article probably cost $5 to produce, and the copy about $8 (better component parts).

The biggest problem with the Bulova Moonwatch is the sheer size of it. The made it ways to big. I only would use it on my desk on a holder
Hello from Spain. To distinguish the original from the copy, we can look at the length of the minute marks around 6 o'clock. The original has only 2 long marks between 6 and 7 o'clock, and between 5 and 6 o'clock. The copy has 3 on each side.
Smart pick, I agree, their accuracy on the mark is not spot on/line up with the fake watch
If you need to go down to such tiny detail to spot a fake then a lot of people will just pay $25 for the fake.
The moonswatch is in that rare club in which the original watch is so bad that the replica is essentially comparable, and may even be superior, to the original.

It is what it is, cheap rubbish. It hasn't elevated the kudos of Swatch one bit, but it's certainly lowered the prestige of Omega, big time!
Thanks for this Tim. What makes things more complicated for a buyer is that there are slight variations in the originals themselves. I have 2 Mars watches, both bought from London Oxford St. and Covent Garden and there is a slight difference in the text on the strap (slightly darker black text)
MAYBE there are no variations...
Steinhart and the rep factories are both selling clones but only one is honest about what they're copying.
you can quickly notice the difference between the two. The real one has better color density and its finish is closer to a 50$ Timex
Precisely. The fake has a flat, matte finish on the bezel; the real version is shinier and textured. You can also note the difference (albeit slight) in the band loops - the real one has a bit of a flatness to it and is also matte, the fake is purely round, smooth, and shiny.

This is exactly why dealers are refusing to buy second hand panerais without paper work now as they cannot tell the difference.
The movement used for the fake watch has a 24h dial function at three o clock, the real one measures 1/10sec with the chronograph running.
This is the variety we want from this channel, thanks tim
Glad you enjoy it!
I've had the opportunity to study one of these fakes up close - I'll tell you what I found:
1) yes to the box. Flat vs. textured. Shiny vs.
4) Watch face:
Real version's bezel is shiny and textured, text is very crisp and clearly printed.

You had me at, "...wonderful piece of marketing..."
Wouldn't at all surprised if the fake sports a sapphire?
they're just quartz swatches with omega branding
Fake watch chronos are always broken, unless you pay $1000 of usd for high-end fake rolex.

th-cam.com/video/bQ24c4Sp4zE/w-d-xo.html
When the heck did the watch channel start?? This is epic
When the fake becomes better than the real. It’s also a quartz, how difficult is it to clone a quartz. They have no sweeping hand to worry, don’t have a stainless steel case to worry about, and don’t have a bracelet to worry. It’s literally a free reign for people to copy them.
th-cam.com/video/bQ24c4Sp4zE/w-d-xo.html
Well, they didn't put an appropriate movement in. TBH, they should have just not bothered putting fake logos on the dial and strap and set the 3 O'clock subdial with 24 hour markings and sold it as a 'lookalike'/'homage' instead of an outright fake - People would still have bought it just to give Swatch the V signs for feeding the scalper market.

Agreed
Thanks for watching and showing love.
Congratulations 🎁🎉🎈you have been shortlisted for a prize !!! Send me a text above to acknowledge your prize .
Very interesting video and my introduction to your channel. I’ve subscribed and am now enjoying looking through the back catalogue. Happy New Year to you and yours 🎉
Heading to Covent Garden on Monday to get mine, can't wait
To paraphrase Jud from 'Pet Sematary' --- "Sometimes, fake is better!"
Very good video. Good explanation of the differences. Thanks for upload.
Aliexpress version will use what I've concluded to be clone seiko mechaquartz. Take your pick if you want one with that mvmt or a swatch
The difference is quite noticeable when they are side by side.
The clone case, strap and bezel are not nearly as well finished. The secondary hands are longer as well.
best factory versions Moonswatch yet 1:1 th-cam.com/video/bQ24c4Sp4zE/w-d-xo.html
I can't believe you didn't remove the back to show how different the fake is from the real watch.
Never knew Shmee had a watch channel.
Welcome!
I agree with Jim, I'd rather have one of the fakes (one with the Seiko vk63 movement) instead of the real one witch appears to be completed garbage at n ridiculous price, I can get a much better watch for a lot less money.
Thanks for this video....now I'll be able to tell the difference. Much appreciated 👍
Funny how you say Oh Mee Geh, while i say Oh May Gah.. tomato tomato, potato potato…..hahahah
You can also look at the strap spring the clones use normal ones the search uses the omega watch.
Good video just looked at one on Vinted spotted the typo Low iow Thanks
Omega and the Swatch group once again clawing defeat from the jaws of victory. Every time they manage to create something good for them, they always seem to find news ways to screw it up royally for themselves and the potential long time customers they are desperatly trying to snatch away from the other major players in the Swiss watch industry.
Biggest tell is the 2 o’clock subdial. On the fake this is actually a 24hr subdial - not a tenth of a second like the original.
but for a 10th the price, it's a good watch, considering how much Swatch is making a profit. The Chinese Swatch is already making a profit. plastic is plastic. and a quartz timepiece are also not the cost. do you understand. and why can china make them in large quantities. and Swatch Not. can you dig it
Also the speedmaster writing on the strap is further away from the end of the strap
I orderd a fake one and it has the 1/10 sec dial at two o'clock position, but it just turnes with the hour dial but not while using the stop watch functions......am I alone?
Thank u so much brother,I know now!was worried abt my order with your video I think I got the legit one.waiting for my order .
It reminds me of when I got every colour of the little felt rabbits in Kinder™️ eggs.
I’m stopping at three MoonSwatches though because I do not like the other colours.
Also saving my money and shoe leather for the SwatchMaster 300 which is being released at the end of October 😎
The one in this video is the 1st copy but they have revised the copy now. The 2rd version of the copy is waterproof, box and colour are identical with the right paper. The second copy costs are about £75 ish.
£75 ish!? For that a PD1701V3 is a much better option.
