In my opinion this launch does not support the brand perception that Omega has built so far. Nothing in the watches connects to exclusivity, high quality, and tradition. I like the new models and they will sell like crazy, but I don’t think that in the long term they will improve the way users perceive Omega.
Absolutely genius. The conversation has been nonstop. And while Rolex is making themselves less accessible and more expensive than other, this is particularly smart. A big middle finger to Rolex and their artificial scarcity and overblown marketing.
Two big middle fingers to Rolex. If I was given a Submariner, I would absolutely love it, but it is something I would never buy due to their games and having to pay a ridiculous price on the secondary market. Can't wait to get a MoonSwatch and the day I can afford an actual Speedy.
Firstly there isn't any artificial scarcity. Rolex sell pretty much everything they can possibly produce. Its the overblown demand c/w too many dealers chasing the same watches. AD's need to make money, they can only sell the Rolexes which are supplied to them. If they need 100 (for demand and overheads) and Rolex only provide 10 then they need to get 10x per watch to pay the bills (they can't satisfy demand) . Hence selling out the back door and/or encouraging buyers to buy other less desirable non Rolex watches. However re Omega/swatch, Rolex are now offering their own cheaper 'me too' versions of Rolex : Tudor are fast becoming an homage brand which is meant to satisfy those who can't afford a grey market Rolex but want the look of a Rolex..
1000% agree. I’ve been so turned off by how Rolex is conducting its business recently and seeing this release only makes me even happier with my recent SMP300 purchase
I agree. I purchased my Rolex before they started playing games with availability. I would add an other to my collection if they didn't make you beg for it. Instead I have come to appreciate other brands and have made purchases. So thank you Rolex for opening my eyes. Word on the street in the industry is that AD's have inventory and help create the scarcity
I’ll just say that I wear an Apple Watch and never once considered buying any sort of “collector” watch until I heard about the moonswatch. I’ve since watched 20 or more of your videos and now I’m eyeing a tudor black bay and a grand seiko snowflake. The omega/swatch collab got me, an Apple Watch guy, thinking about watches.
I've had Rolex and Omega and a was all about the micro brands for the last 10 years. As soon as I started wearing my Samsung Frontier S3 with the ability to download all my favorite luxury brand dials (as long as they were round) but with ability to take phone calls, full exercise metrics, and even Chrome video playback of TH-cam now every time I put on a regular watch it seems kind of pointless.
@@davidcrandall4958 It is not hard to believe at all. Simply it is a different proposal. The AppleWatch is great as well as most smart watches for that matter but the mechanical and quartz watches although now obsolete are also great. See, if I had to buy a car to commute to work as well as for leisure, I'd just buy a modern banger in good condition, if it could be a fun model I'd go for that but it will have to remain cheap. Would I buy a new Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston-Martin ? Definitely not even though I could at a whim. But how come I would definitely not sell my pre-war racing Rileys and Bugattis nor my biplane. Are these practical ? Not at all. Are these obsolete ? Yes, definitely. So why ? Simply because of the pleasure and the romance they provide.
@@porscheoscar grim. Just so awful. I have to carry two cellphones, so the idea of also having some kind of additional attention draining advice makes me want to vomit
I can definitely see a lot of father and son moments with the dad owning the real deal and getting their kid the swatch version. Something I would definitly do...if I had a Speedmaster...
omg I was looking at the swatch version and my dad came over and was like " you want that? I have the real one." and flexed his speedmaster. I didn't even know he had one hidden in his wardrobe. Im not going to get the swatch speedmaster :(
I have the original omega…and the swatch. And keep both for myself. The swatch is my daily since i got it, it’s a really nice (but very plasticy) watch. Go for it, if you like the speedy!
I’m now 57 & received an Omega Seamaster Quartz for my 21st birthday in 1985. Never serviced & still keeps time like a dream. I love watches & love your channel. I think the idea of Omega & Swatch collaborating over an iconic watch like the Speedmaster was a touch of genius. It puts the fun back into owning an accessory like a watch. In this day and age of people buying apple & smart watches, which will be outdated within a few years, this will give young buyers something fun to buy that will stay relevant for years. Possibly start a habit of investing in quality timepieces,no matter what brand they look at. Never seen hysteria over a watch like this before. Thanks,Paul.
I agreed with everything you said Paul except the smart watches being outdated in 5 years or so. Your comment was 2 years ago give or take and there’s no decline in them and they are just getting better and more popular.
I was eyeing Omega as my wedding gift for my husband, but it was too expensive for me so I got him a higher end version from Longines. When this came out, I was excited to buy a pair for both of us, it serves as a reminder of my dream gift for him whenever I see moonswatch. And for sure, I will buy my husband an Omega watch someday. ❤️
WOW, as a Man I can say whatever watch Brand you bought, your husband Will always remember such considered detail from you, believe me, any swiss watch you gave him Is going to mean the whole World to him, you are a great wife
I have always loved Omega, but this collaboration has heightened my appreciation for Omega. I love anything and anyone who can stand down these "gatekeepers" and snobs of any hobby, giving a chance to young adults, and frankly a college student (like myself) to aspire for something like the real speedy.
Do that with a new line! Don’t shit on an established line by making it a department store watch. Making watches more accessible doesn’t mean you can’t make anything a little more exclusive
Aqua Terra owner here! I was so stoked when Moonswatch was announced. For me, I was excited to buy one as a travel or summer watch when I don't want to bring an expensive timepiece on the road. It doesn't hurt the brand for me, if anything it allows me to experiment even more with color, case materials etc. My love for Omega is even stronger with this Collab.
Maybe if this is a success, and it looks like it will be, we will get a whole line of homage Swatch collabs with iconic watches like the Aqua Terra, Railmaster etc.
Excellent point about travelling with an expensive watch. I usually carry my Oris 65 and a citizen for snorkeling both of which I can afford to loose without crying but more importantly doesn't attract attention.
I find them to be a bit gaudy and immature. Remind me of the TechnoMarine ceramic phase of the early and mid 2000's. Every out of diapers millennial girl had one, and it sky rocketed the price of an otherwise sub 200 dollar timepiece to criminal levels.
I'm a 24-year-old who is into watches. I own a vintage Omega inherited from my grandfather, but I'm currently too poor to afford anything else. I absolutely love this collaboration and plan to buy a mission to mercury as soon as it becomes available online.
It. Will look great, for a while, untill the first catch on the crystal! I recommend buying some polywatch but,yes it will get scratched again and then again and how about when the plastic case gets scratched or scuffed
I currently have 4 Omegas in my collection, a 1957 Omega worn by my late father, a PO Seamaster, a Seamaster Diver 300 with the polar face and a Worldtimer, when I first read about this collaboration between Omega and Swatch I was really scratching my head as to “why” now after a few weeks/months I fully understand that the future of the watch world does in fact rest with the younger generation of today, your video hit it on the head.
Two years later and this was one of the worst releases ever. The marketing was the same that MVMT and Daniel Wellington use, and the product was awful. Wouldn’t last you a week before breaking. You couldn’t even buy these at an Omega boutique because they didn’t stand by the product. Thankfully you’ll never see Rolex make a $300 plastic Daytona.
As always, Teddy, thoroughly thought-out commentary. Three points: The MoonSwatch makes me think no less of my grail Seamaster or the Omega brand, it has heightened my interest in eventually owning a Speedmaster, and my adult son and I like the whimsy and practically of the MoonSwatch as an inexpensive and “fun” timepiece.
I think this Omega-Swatch has allowed the traditional watch makers to rethink what they n their timepieces stood for... Did they think FOR the consumer - like Apple; or Should they have been thinking OF the consumer - who, whichever group they belong to, gives them the money that they have been earning all along. Earning, yes... Not Making. Call it a fun-piece, a rip-off, a pre-emptive marketing strike before the watch fair or what you will... The Fact remains that this is a watch for the masses, who may or may not be aware of the intricacies n complexity of watch making n its history... But their Focus is Not Incorrect - that a watch, no matter the price, served only one purpose - telling ONLY THE TIME. It's a long overdued wake-up call to Both the watch industry n several others, Apple included... That if you DON'T THINK of your customers nor Respect them despite the group they are in... SOMEONE ELSE Will. It's Back to the Basics boys. 😁
it devalued the omega, time to move out of omega watch collection progressive... big mistake made by Omega.Try this, "Let's get a Fun and inexpensive Patek Philippe from Swatch.. Richie Aunt Mary will be super pissed off.." LOL
@@UnburdenedByWhatHasBeen Yes, there's always a chance that will happen. But just 40% alone from this crowd graduating to the real deal is gonna really build up the tempo in them young 'uns... N the potential future bz... 😁
as an Omega owner I feel this amplifies my appreciation of my watches, and made me even more grateful when i see just how ppl are desperate to get the swatch version of my watch (which is the real deal). In face I have been a massive Omega collector but always generally seamaster and constellation pieces, never had a speedmaster. Bought a speedmaster 2998 pulsometer a week after the swatch release haha... (my first speedy)
Rolex now reminds me of Harley in the early 00's. They saw a huge uptick in popularity, but sat on their butts and jacked up prices without innovating and the quality of customer service at dealers dropped off turning off an entire generation of riders, and now they are the "old man" brand that no younger people want anymore. I foresee Rolex going the same direction.
I have the Speedmaster and then got the Pluto Moonswatch when it came out and I love both. I think the collaboration was a great idea and I think there's "space" for everyone!
As an Omega Speedy owner I love this concept. I'm all in favor of accessibility to the history of an amazing tool watch. Yes, the original speedy was a tool rather than a luxury item.
I purchased my first "luxury" watch this year from Omega. Went with the Seamaster Diver 300m, white dial. I was between the Seamaster and Speedmaster, and ultimately decided that I'll go with the Seamaster now, and Speedy next year if all goes well. When this collaboration came out I was thrilled. I'll never pay over retail, but I absolutely plan on trying to get one of these when they're more widely available from Swatch. Do I still plan on getting the "real" Speedy if I can get my hands on the Moonswatch? Yep! If I can get a "variant" of that same watch that's still backed by the Omega brand, for under $300 that I can beat the hell out of (and maybe even in a fun color), what's not to love? Couple that with getting more (younger) people introduced to the luxury watch game, I think Omega nailed it with this.
Yeah but here is the thing. Would you buy a luxury edition, 2grand worth of Casio as your main watch, only because 20-30 years ago you had a 30dollar Casio? Most people really won't.. right? Today, as an adult you rather associate Casio with a "cheap", lower division, as some sort of a reminiscence. My point being here is, that I see no correlation between first/cheap Omega and future luxury Omega purchases from the same person. I actually think it'll be quite the opposite. As part of Omega's forthcoming, long-term downfall.
Petrofi. I agree 100 percent!! Plastic watches are nice as disposable toys for as far under 100 dollars you can get,but the fact that I can get A plastic one that not only looks like the one I've been influenced to buy but has the same brand name isn't going to spur me to buy a six thousand dollar and up luxury watch even if I am ever able to afford that inflated price!
@@petofisanyi2420 you take it the wrong way: people buy the cheap swatch/omega now be ause they can’t afford the real grail, which is the speedy. A casio is cool, but there was never a 7k casio to begin with and to copy as a cheap fun/entry level watch
Perdaloux Iknow that! They may never be able to afford it because by the time they can it will cost three times as much. That's how it works with luxury watches. Paying 278dollars or much more now for a watch that sell for 80 or 90 bucks MSRP doesnt make any sense to me
Picked up the Swatch Mission to Mercury Tuesday and I have to say it’s absolutely stunning. Doesn’t feel cheap and plasticky and the contrast between the grey and black is beautiful. The strap I thought would stick out but it’s very confortable and flexible. Beautiful watch well worth the 250
@DonaldTrumpsTinyHands have you had one in hands? Granted, it is light and not substantial on your wrist weight wise. You barely notice you have it on. But the bio ceramic mix has a drastic difference with the normal plastic swatch uses for their entry level watches, which is super gimmicky. If you’re used to metal watches this isn’t for you. It’s a lot more Swatch than omega.
what is the crystal made of? is it acrylic/mineral glass or is it saphire? cheers bro! the watch looks amazing but i really dislike watches who scratch easily, otherwise i really i think of getting one for myself
I am pleasantly surprised to see Teddy echo my feeling almost exactly. When I saw people flocking to Swatch stores, I thought to myself "If even 5% of these guys make the Moonswatch the starting point of their journey to an eventual ownership of an Omega timepiece 10 years down the line, this collabo was worth the risk."
Why on earth are you obsessed with them buying an Omega? The usual BS myth is that they will ‘Get into the Hobby’, but you went one step further with your delusion ✊🏻
I have a Omega Speedmaster and would love to own all 11 Moonswatches... They are just so much fun as intended. They also give people the opportunity to start a collection and not brake the bank. As you said, they are worlds apart so both brands will make a decent profit of this collaboration.
Omega is my first luxury watch passed down from my mother and Swatch was my wish watch as a teenager (was not able to buy one as my mom stated its plastic and can’t afford one on my allowance). To have them both in one watch is particularly serendipitous for me! So thank you Omega and Swatch for collaborating and I now own the Venus watch. I got my wish watch as a teen but a bit more special as it also has Omega in it.
Speedmaster Moonwatch owner here and I would love get the red moonSwatch. It is a fun watch that celebrates one of the most iconic watch. Big hype and massive brand awareness for Omega, something I felt Omega needed. I'm part of the newer generation and the non-watch enthusiasts (such as my friends) don't even know what Omega is let alone a Speedmaster before this release. Those saying it will ruin the image may have forgotten what the watch collecting hobby is all about.. I think this is a brave move from Omega that shows that they are confident in their watches and their heritage. Also, this hype has even gotten the missus (who does not own a watch) interested and asking when she can get the venus version (pink one?). Just wished I could get my hands on one. ;D
The Moonwatch (and even the Speedy in general) weren't even on my consideration radar as a watch "that I wanted"... until the Moonswatch came around. Now I'm eagerly anticipating being able to own a Moonswatch, and then one day stepping it up and looking forward to when I can own its OG namesake. Well played Omega/Swatch... well played indeed.
As a Space nerd I was more focused on the Bulova Lunar Pilot, but now I deffinitly want 2 or 3 of these Moon Swatches to go with it just for fun factor. Mars, Saturn, and Pluto are certainly my favorite versions
Yup, same. Swatch were huge when I was a child, but rarely hear the name any more. Omega was always something I assumed was out of my price range. Moment this collaboration came out I wanted the Swatch. When it was so hard to get I thought, well, maybe I can afford a real Omega. Turns out I can. Yet to commit, but certainly looking. We're certainly not alone.
As an Omega fan and Owner I personally love the collection. I couldn’t always afford the watches I have now and this is a great gateway to have an “official” watch and not purchase fakes. At the end of the day the buyers for a real Speed Master will always want that watch and this watch will have little to zero impact on their perception of the real watch.
In the "10 watches you should not buy" video, a lot of commenters said they'd buy a homage since they couldn't afford the real thing. The same applies here, most of the people can't afford the Speedmaster but could have a 'replica' that is not a third party make.
Previous tudor owner here. I owned mine for 18 months but the silliness involving market manipulation from the wilsdorf group has tainted the brand for me. It's perhaps a sign of the times that I sold the watch for the amount I paid (slight discount during COVID). I'm replacing it with a 1969 OMEGA geneve dynamic & buying a moonswatch with the spare change. I think it's a masterstroke & brings fun back into the equation of luxury watch accessibility & ownership.
Oddly enough this last couple weeks of looking at the Swatch online has lead me down the rabbit hole of lusting after a Speedmaster, something I was more luke warm on before. I think in this era of targeted advertising it plays an even bigger role than before, I’m sure it was no coincidence that my social feeds provided me plenty of access to both the Swatch and the Omega and while I see it happening it still works.
Agree, at first I was sceptical and have been lukewarm about the speedmaster (except for the recent snoopy one!). This has me actually thinking of getting one just because its a fun, whimsical watch.
My dad and I have been huge fans of the speedmaster for as long as I can remember but we could never afford it. During the time of this release, it really got me thinking of how to gift him the Speedmaster as he was about to retire but he passed away unexpectedly. Now I’ve made it my mission to own it in his memory. Just found it interesting that the moonswatch buzz rekindled the dream of owning a speedmaster, since it’s the one watch that my dad and I bonded over.
Totally agree - Swatch group have made a short term gain for Swatch (in currenct sales) and a long term gain for Omega. The moonswatch is going to be bought by young people who will hopefully reach out to Omega once they have become more affluent.
I love my Speedmaster Pro. And now I own a moonswatch. Its fun. No where near the build quality, but thats not why I bought it. I like this collaboration. Good and thoughtful video, as usual.
I cannot afford a speedmaster as I am a college student but being able to buy the swatch omega collaboration watch is amazing. I love the move by them to put out an affordable watch. If I end up liking the watch I could see myself saving up for a speedmaster one day
You are right it's funny people Diss on omega when the production is handled by swatch. Some also expect omega quality for that price point. I worry omega might follow what rolex is doing, omega might make the moonwatch design history like for REAL history. Thus sending the price to the moon, daytonas worn by famous actor is now unobtainable so what will it be like for the speedmaster that actually went to the moon? Those omega haters will have valid reason to hate the moonwatch LOL or ... just ppl trying to deviate other ppl from seeing what the moonwatch can do, omega knows this the speedmaster will bring omega to the moon again. It will suck if u missed it, next gen will be stuck with just the moonswatch.
You say Omega remains "untouched"- really? Now thanks to the moonSwatch, Omega is associated with: 1. Cheap, plastic case. 2. Poor build quality. 3. Dial hands not lining up on markers. 4. Plastic lens that scratches easily. 5. Plastic lens that can't be replaced. 6. Inks rubbing off on the wrist. 7. Flippers out there to make a quick buck. 8. Frustration over availability in-store. 9. Frustration of not being available online. Help me out please so I can get to an even 10. This cheap, plastic, official replica Speedmaster abomination may be great for Swatch, but it sure will suck for Omega's image and reputation.
@@tomy8339 exactly, if this had been done at least decently, it would be a different story but lets face it, these are not even remotely well made at the price point they are, its as if they took a $60 watch (and really i think im being generous with that as i would rather have a invicta pro diver for that money) and tacking on $200 for printing omega on it. Considering the quality, sure they made a quick buck but i think it ultimatly tarnish both Swatch and Omega.
I think that the Moonswatch should have been branded as a Swatch product with only an Omega symbol underneath the Swatch brand however I think that the product is a great collaboration in that most Swiss watch brands come off a bit snooty whereas Omega as a high end brand has always relied on its reputation as being a brand that produces watches that are supremely engineered In cases that are very well finished. In the Moonswatch we have a product that is well engineered in a case that is affordable and attractive in its marketplace and attracts people who haven’t been in the hobby before to the hobby. It’s a win for new customers to the Swatch brand and future customers for Omega. Brilliant marketing indeed.
As an 18 year old with not much money, this is an amazing collab. It has brought my excitement for watches back and I hope to own a moonswatch and even more hope to own a speedmaster when I can afford to.
Justin, interesting point. I would like to ask you if you get the MoonSwatch at retail price of $260, would you really spend 20-times that much for an Omega Moonwatch?
@@villagranvicent You're going to have to start somewhere, and the MoonSwatch is the gateway watch for aspiring watch collectors. My first automatic watch was a $75 Invicta pro diver when I got my first job out of school, but it got me into watches. Today my collection spans from the Seiko SKX to my Speedmaster to my GMT Master. The luxury watch industry should thank Invicta.
@@deevee8220 great point. I think if you end up getting into watches with a more affordable models, and find yourself really liking watches in general. If you then really want a higher price watch like an omega or a rolex, you will probably stick to that goal. At least it's like that for me cause I just learned to enjoy watches and I've set goals to achieve them
That's great. I'm in the same boat, when I was 18 I could only afford a cheap casio. 10 years later I have a very nice speedmaster. If I can do it you definitely can. An omega swatch seems like a very nice cheap watch to have if you appreciate them and can actually manage to find one for a reasonable price.
I have an Omega Seamaster since 15 years ago, never serviced, I love it. This initiative understands perfectly the actual market movement and tendencies, I think it's absolutely genius. I love watches, I have a few of them, I buy them not because they are expensive or sophisticated, but because I like them, how they look, how the y feel when I wear them, I even have an AppleWatch Ultra, I use them all, everyday a different one. Definitively I'm gonna buy one of this as soon as they will be reasonable available. Not gonna become crazy, I'll be patient. Thanks for the review.
Omega and Swatch were smart enough to understand that the future of brand success is not on competition and exclusivity but on collaboration and inclusivity. This is a concept imported from some players in the tech, entertainment and fashion industries. As someone who works with design, business innovation and marketing this is genius.
@@JehanAjaya so? They also own breguet, glashutte original, Blancpain... And each of them have their own movements, you don't see a cal3861 co-axial inside the moonswatch do you?
I rekindled my love for Omega with the release of the Hesalite Speedy and picked one up in 2021. Love it. Love the history, the quality of the piece, and the fact that it’s not another “Submariner-esque” dive watch. I can’t wait to get a MoonSwatch in some fun colors and have it be my summer toss around pool party banger!
At one hundred dollars with a discount,It would be fine for me,but there is no way I can or will pay MSRP or god forbid, anything above! If people want to waste their money that's none of my business. I am just giving you my opinion based on 40 years of experience! There are far less expensive alternatives to the "real speedy also in my opinion!
As a watch collector I have never considered a speed master. After the Moonswatch, I went and bought the new SM professional. I also can't wait to buy all the Moonswatch collection.
Great intro into the hobby. Young adults who currently cannot drop $4k on a watch can get the "bug" at a discount and aspire to get the real thing later on in life. Great business decision and marketing strategy.
Yeah, I just can't find a problem with more options for consumers. I bought two of my cousins Seiko 5's (back when they were sub $100) as a high school graduation gift. One of them is totally into watches now.
From a person that owns a luxury, mid tier and cheaper watches I actually really like this move, my first Chronograph is going to be a Speedy but this release is not only very fun but also super accessible(if we don't count the silly Selected stores only and the non-existent online preorders -_-) I'm currently saving for my sapphire sandwich Moonwatch which is a healthy £5,000+ so when these got announced i was a little skeptical but the Mission to Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn really spoke to me. I'm getting the Mercury as soon as I'm able to order online, it's very similar to the original Moonwatch but it just has a little extra with the light grey accents which I love as it's nicely layered, my second favourites are the Saturn and Jupiter as I love earthy colour tones and the fact that the bottom subdial on Saturn actually has the planet itself. These are a great idea, it definitely doesn't come close to imitating the quality of an actual mechanical Speedmaster Professional, it's just for fun and it 100% worked in Swatch & Omega's favour :)
I have both an omega speedy and moonswatch mission to moonphase (now punned The Snoopy). I use my Snoopy for surfing and all round fitness type things and my omega for more formal work attire. I have to admit - I actually prefer the story behind the Swatch one and it gets way more conversations going with the little moonphase dial hiding snoopy until a full moon (Yes I am an adult!)! It also made me look into the history of NASA and why Snoopy is there mascot - which again is a great story! There marketing got me... and I'm not even mad about it! I LOVE IT!
You wear it in the ocean? That's awesome! I'm on the fence about getting a Mission to Mercury. I wasn't sure about taking it in the pool in the summer. But now you have sparked my interest again.
I own a modern Seamaster Professional and have owned a few vintage Omegas. I think this is genius and I am buying one of these as soon as they are widely available online. I don't think the Speedmaster Professional sales will be hurt it all. The provenance of a Speedmaster almost makes it immune from anything. It's damn near the perfect chrono with a backstory to be dreamed of.
I own an Omega Globemaster, and I am excited about this collaboration. I feel it injects a much needed sense of inclusivity and youthfulness into a watch world that can often feel snobbish and elitist. I’m not really concerned about how it affects the exclusivity of owning an Omega, because that’s not why I chose the Globemaster, and I’m not going to like my Globemaster any less just because there will be a lot of people walking around with a MoonSwatch. If anything, I am happy that there will be more people walking around with watches with Omega branding, because I like that there will be more people excited about a brand I’m excited about. I see some people on social media criticizing it, and a lot of times it comes across as insecurity, as a way to exert some sense of superiority they get from owning an expensive luxury watch, and feeling like that’s being challenged. I think this is a great move and I fully support it.
I've always admired the Omega Speedmaster from a historical perspective. I live in Houston, so seeing the Moonwatch in person at the NASA Space Centre is a sight to behold. Even handling one in person is truly speechless. That being said, not everyone can own one. Everyone comes from different financial backgrounds. This collaboration brings in future customers to not just only Swatch but to Omega as well. In addition, the MoonSwatch now gives people no reason to look at homages and replicas. This is an example of good marketing. I will get the MoonSwatch and I will get an Omega. In the end, this brought fun back into watch collecting
I actually work at the JSC. I thought this move was brilliant. It has not deterred my desire for a Speedmaster Professional even in the slightest. In fact it's fueled it more. Such an amazing watch rich with history. I'm glad Omega did this, it's really made such an iconic watch available to all to enjoy.
I actually went out and bought a real speedy after the moonswatch launched. I had my eye on one for a while and I think this translates to increased demand for the real thing. I love it and it's a watch I'll keep forever.
I'm an omega speedmaster owner and support this move. If it creates interest in watches for future generations, then that's great. I don't believe in grouping watched by price. We should be looking at them as a passion. All the best guys.
Nailed it Teddy. Completely agree. Have had a Seamaster on my wrist for thirty years now and love the idea. Will probably pick up a MoonSwatch for just the heck of it.
I owned 2 speedmasters (and sold one) but i'm still going to get the moonswatch. 1. I dont think this move damages the brand in any way but instead it made me a prouder owner of a speedmaster. Before the moonswatch, most non-watch people dont even know the existence of the legendary moonwatch but now because of the moonswatch, people now recognise them. They didn't know what i was wearing until they see the moonswatch and now they have an idea when they see a speedmaster on someone's wrist. They will know it's the expensive version when they see it stainless steel, which is instantly recognisable from bioceramic. 2. THE COLORS!!!! These colorways are fire on speedmasters and it would be impossible to see speedmaster in these colorways if it wasn't for this collab.
I myself own two Omegas though not the Speedmaster. A lot of Omega fans think this collaboration diluted the brand, but I think it showed the whole world just what a powerful brand Omega is, despite it often being overshadowed by Rolex. It was a risky move, but it will pay off. I bet even people who weren't much interested in Omega before are looking at it now. And I bet a lot of Omega owners are finding a fresh appreciation for the brand that is often described as the "underdog" in comparison with Rolex.
Although I’m a watch enthusiast, I have never really wanted or owned a Swatch. Nor have I owned an Omega. Now I’m very interested in buying both. Definitely a successful collaboration for this enthusiast.
It was a genius idea for Omega. I actually bought the Speedmaster after I wore the Mars one for a couple of weeks in a rotation. Now it's just my red shirt watch. It's a rotation watch, Casio-like quality, and you have to be realistic and understand you are buying a $300 Swatch, not an Omega watch.
I own quite a few watches including a seamaster. I think it’s a great move to raise interest in the brand and watch collecting in general, in a time that non smart watches aren’t needed.
Honestly after having had a "smart watch" (Galaxy Watch Active) and being irritated by how quickly it died, I'm starting to see real mechanical watches as nessisary again, something well engineered, far more water resistant in many cases, requiring no batteries or internet connection, and are just plainly gorgeous with their finishing even in my small 500$ or less price range, even without service a Orient "Mini Triton" will live an order or magnitude longer than any smart watch. I only keep a Garmin Instinct Solar around as a fitness tracker because it claims to be considerably more robust against shock and water than most with a far longer battery life, if it fails however it will be the last "smart" watch I bother with
@@UNSCPILOT I have a garmin fenix 6 and it’s actually great. I had it as my daily watch for the last 2 years.Only needs charging once a week. now I just use it for hiking etc.. nothing matches a nice mechanical, I just feel better wearing one. Gone back to my proper watches
Great video, but I think there is one more aspect that makes this brilliant: it makes Omega fun! Rolex already seemed stuffy and needlessly exclusive to a lot of buyers, and this sharpens the contrast even more. Buy into Omega, and you’re joining the party. Buy into Rolex, and you got waived into the old country club.
I don’t own an Omega (yet), but here are my thoughts: my first impression was that it was a great marketing move… but that it might devalue the Omega brand. On a second thought, it’s definitely a great way to acknowledge a different customer base. And finally, this gives me a huge opportunity to try on the Speedy silhouette wihout spending the real deal, specially with my small wrist. I wonder what will the rest of brands/groups will do in response.
I have a Omega Speedmaster and hardly ever wear it for fear of scratching it etc. only wear it on special occasions, I was lucky enough to pick up a Moonswatch and wear it all the time without worrying about breaking it, for me I think it’s a great idea and love I it!
I love this collaboration. Brings an Omega in the hands of people who normally only dream to own one. Ok it’s not a true speed master but that being said it’s perfect to get people to own a low end speed master and drive their desire to buy a full on Omega. This only helps bring Omega more attention and exposure in the long run
Great video! When I first learned the news, I had the typical reaction of “What is Omega doing?! They’re destroying their brand?!” About a day later, I realized it was genius for both the Swatch group as a whole and for Omega individually. Heck, I’ve never been a big fan of the Speedmaster. It’s got a decent design, but it didn’t grab me. This actually made me take a second look and explore their other models. And a lot of people who didn’t know about Omega already are doing the same thing. I could be wrong, but I think Rolex is starting to piss people off, so that combined with this move by Omega could be a brilliant choice.
This is a genius move and will be looked back on as a marketing master-stroke. It raises awareness of Omega and doesn't detract at all. I hope to get two of the MoonSwatch models.
If the Moonswatch while being made of bio-plastic, turns out to be reliable and resistant to discoloration, Swatch may have stolen a march or two on the other watch brands. I mean you have Rolex going all in on exclusivity and high-pricing and running the risk of becoming an old-man brand. The trinity brands will be forever out of reach and perhaps slowly fade. I think Swatch is making a clever marketing move here.
Rolex already is an old man brand e.g. a group of young women last year (s) targeted very mature male golfers in the U.K. & easily took their Rolexes off them when shaking hands (?). I thought it was unwise to wear an automatic watch while spoling a walk?
Brilliant marketing. I’d thought about adding a Speedmaster to my collection . When I couldn’t buy a Moonswatch I took the plunge and bought a co - axial on a nylon strap. Beautiful.
Exactly! I have 3 friends who were strictly Rolex and AP guys and are now waitlisted for the speedmaster professional! Otherwise they never knew what it was!
My late mother asked me before leaving for a trip to Europe in 1969 what I would like her to bring back for me. I immediately said the Omega Speedmaster. She literally bought it in Zurich the day we landed on the moon. I retired it from daily use around 1980 when I was issued a Rolex Sea Dweller serving in the military. Now I wear it every year for the month of July in my mother's memory. This release of the Swatch will kindle an inferno of interest and desire in all the original Speedmasters for the younger generations. Brilliant.
I think it was a great idea, it brings the attention for a great watch to a younger audience. I myself own a regular Speed master but i am from a generation who watched the moon landings in my PJ's on the couch with my dad and those people will be a smaller and smaller audience in the future and i think most of those space geeks already own a Speed master. lets face it young people buying one of those moon Swatches are the future clients for a original Moon watch.I myself will be picking up at least one of these Moon Swatches so it's a win win however you look at it.
I own a Speedy and I love this collaboration with swatch - because Omega shows that they have humour and they don't take them too serious. Now everyone talks about Omega and this is a brand worth talking about it.
Omega was potentially saved by the Swatch group and this collaboration now is bringing more people ( younger ) into the world of horology with the name of Omega first in mind & also available.
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger cute collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.
@@ReverendMeat51 Not if they start injecting the elements like map and culture of countr(y/ies) or region where that sea is located. If they consider the colours, the range and designs of present and historical Seamasters (including Bullhead, 300, Diver, Planet Ocean, Aqua Terra, Ploproff), they’ll be on to something special. Including the James Bond element to one of the OxS Seamasters may even be one of their most popular issues. Having said that, they did mention eventually that they have considered Seamasters but went instead with the Speedmasters. Maybe in the distant future….
There is a perceived barrier to entry into luxury watches especially for the younger generation. This collab just broke down those barriers and the watch market just got a fresh batch of enthusiasts, which is good for the market overall
So far so good out of the gate. Luxury buying is a long buying cycle so we will see the real impact of this when someone decides to buy an OMEGA in the next 5-10 years instead of another luxury watch brand.
For me yes it does hurt alot, I personally have always wanted a Moonwatch, but a real one not a cheap plastic version. Now this just proved us that the Moonwatch design is nothing more than 500USD. Rolex would never launch a Rolex x Seiko and sold its Submariner with a quartz movement made with plastic, thats just the class difference between a Rolex and Omega
@@DavidBoy333 really? How does Swatch making a homage to an icon hurt it? It is a great way to get the younger generation into watches. Brand recognition is huge you wouldn’t see a Rolex Seiko because they are completely different companies. Maybe Swatch x Blancpain 50 fathoms
@@DavidBoy333 what you are saying is absolutely insane.... every design is nothing more than just design that can be copied.... by your logic, AP that cost 15k is cheapening AP that cost 100k?.... design is the same and even case is the same material for example nothing else matters right?.... Moonswatch does nothing to diminish Omega... i cannot understand anybody with this point of view to be honest
I work at a cafe in a mall which has both a swatch and omega store. I showed up to work at 7:30 (cafes open early for staff around the mall to get their coffee) and there was the biggest queue i had seen at 7:30am, and all retail stores open at 9am. I followed the line for about 5 minutes and finally reached the swatch store. I really didnt expect the omega x swatch speedmaster to be that popular. By the time they all finished buying the watch the cafe was overloaded with customers wanting breakfast.
Honestly I’m torn. I’m have a speedy and a few other omegas. I don’t look at them the same any longer. I haven’t worn my speedy in over a month and have gone back to my Rolex’s, IWC and JLC.
I've been looking at getting into quality watches for years, but I never pulled the trigger on anything. The introduction and the whole hype around the MoonSwatch reinvigorated my interest in watches and I finally went to a store and ordered... a Datejust 36. So. I guess thanks for the Rolex, Omega!
I currently own 3 black dial Omegas: a Speedmaster triple date, a Seamaster 300 professional co-axial “wavey”, and a Sochi Olympics Planet Ocean. The MoonSwatch was a brilliant move by Swatch Group to introduce the Omega brand to a younger demographic as it prominently features both Omega and Swatch branding. As I see it, there’s no way a MoonSwatch would ever be mistaken for a real Speedmaster except by those who would mistake a zebra for a tiger.
I like that video and argumentation. I am since many years into luxury watches - and around 15 years ago I owned a speedmaster broad arrow. Since then I lost interest into Omega speedmaster and bought other brands. But this recent Omega-Swatch hype draw on my attention back to it - ending up in the decision to buy both watches. The traditional Speedmaster and a fun piece from Swatch. All in all for me it is a very clever market approach - beneficial for both of them 👍🏼
Both Swatch and Omega are my favorite watches and I own some from both brands. I still love them both. I love the fact that I can have both names on the same dial. Watch collecting is for fun and who is better than Swatch for that? Omega is always going to be the synonym of luxury, quality and history of watches. Respectfully
As a budget consumer who is new to watch collecting, I think this is a very cool project and gives me a greater appreciation for the swatch group and Omega in particular. If anything, it makes me want to support their company more in the long term.
As a collector I love this. I have 3 Seamasters, I bought the Sun and Uranus and got my mom Jupiter. I love the fact that its a easy watch to wear and it doesn't intimidate anyone. At first glance people ask how come you're wearing a watch with a velcro strap, but when you explain how its a Swatch/Omega and its theme, it creates a good conversation around them and gets people talking and interested in the watch, while if you have a normal Omega watch, the person just knows 'thats a serious watch' and nothing comes from it. Plus I like to have color in the collection, not everything can be gold and steel. I did purchase a rubber strap for one, because the velcro strap just doesn't sit well sometimes.
Genius idea imho. Seamaster owner, really think it's great for the brand, can't see any negatives. Great that it upsets the watch snobs too 😅 Underlines they're the antithesis of Rolex, all about fun & cool youthfulness rather than boring, staid investment brand. Good video, Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a Speedmaster and I don't mind the collaboration. The Moonswatch is a toy compared to the real one. It's a good marketing move. What Rolex does for marketing is far more upsetting. It also serves as a good feedback gauge for Omega. With those long queues they now know how desirable the real Speedmaster is.
I bought a speedy last year and will be selling it as soon as I find something I like. To take an icon like the moonwatch and turn out crappy plastic copies has killed it for me
I got Jupiter on a whim and I’m really pleased with it the Colours are perfect for different occasions and outfits and it’s a good watch. Not super smart but that’s all. A Nice casual watch
Teddy is the ultimate watch advisor. Knowledgeable about luxury watches to a fault. But also open to quality entry level watches as well as business strategy of these various watch conglomerates. If there is only ONE single watch enthusiast source to listen to, it's him.
I recently bought a new Speedmaster with the 3861 movement. I would say that I initially felt short changed when the moonswatch was released...however now that I have seen the poor build quality of the moonswatch, I feel less negative about the release. I do agree that this was a risk that might pay off for omega in the long run as I think Rolex is going to lose relevance for the next generation of consumers.
I initially felt the same: that I was disappointed I spent so much on a speedmaster when I could have just bought a cheap moonswatch that looks very similar. But you are probably right that, in the long run, this collaboration will bring awareness to the Omega brand in a younger generation who may now aspire to one day purchase the real thing!
Dean and Nawaz, I'm glad you both came to the realisation that a plastic watch that costs more than 20x less than its inspiration, is different and frankly inferior. Even if you take the price out of the equation, the Speedmaster on wrist or in the hand is evocative in a way the Moonswatch cannot be. The silver lining in your stories is that you now know better. No disrespect to the MoonSwatch (I own the Mercury) but it really doesn't compete and thus Speedy owners shouldn't feel shortchanged. Congratulations on your purchases.
Not sure if its the same where you are but in scotland you can get a speedmaster on monthly for the same price you would pay for a new iphone on contract. 1 of those will last you a few years the other a lifetime..... worth considering :-)
@@chrisdnz82 hey! Good to know there are great offers like that in the UK/Scotland. In Malaysia we have to max out our credit card or pay cash. As after conversion+taxes, the price goes over the roof. Having said that, these kinds of watches are like once in a lifetime purchases for the bulk majority of us Asians.
Stood in line for hours, in rain, crazy early in the morning. when it got into pushing and line cutting, and the thousands of people for what was likely only 100 or so watches... hit me that I was lining up for a plastic quartz, so walked away after only a couple of hours, missing the actual sale. Now I'm so glad I missed it, it's a throw away watch that adds to the landfills. I want an Omega less than I wanted before, definitely hollows out the value for me. The yahoos fighting each other to buy it and the fact it's a such a throw away watch have sullied it for me. I am happily 'revenge buying' some other non Omega watches. For reference, I've got watches from both swatch and real speedy price ranges.
I must say-Omega and swatch made a smart partnership, Omega is a high end brand and swatch is quality piece of watch movement- Perfect recipe!!!!! i bought the JUPITER! luv it!!!
This is a brilliant move. I own several vintage and modern Omega pieces (Seamaster Cosmic, Planet Ocean, Constellation and Railmaster), and plan on buying myself a speedy pro next year to mark a special occasion (I had previously owned the Speedy Reduced Automatic, but eventually sold it as I felt like I didn't have "the real thing"). When I found out these were going to be available, I actually looked at getting plane tickets to head to my closest Swatch store to pick one up; I cant say there was ever another time when I have considered doing this for any other product, you cant buy that kind of excitement. When these do become more readily available, I will definitely be picking one up. This hasn't hindered my love for the brand, and hasn't changed my mind about buying a new speedy pro next year. Best part? I know a speedy will be waiting for me when I go to pick it up on the special occasion.
I still believe that the "Casioak" was the driver behind this, especially with the aftermarket kits you can buy to make it look like a Royal Oak. Casio has sold tons. I'm sure people have discovered what the Royal Oak is, also, but like 99% of the population, an RO is out of the question. All of this happening unintentionally. The Swatch Group saw this and found a way to make an official crossover and keep the money in house. Many will be happy just to be able to wear an "official" Omega watch and only pay 5% of the asking price. And, like you said, many will want a real SMP. Those who are offended by the MoonSwatch...hahaha 🤣😂😆😂... We need to see an official Casioak....I definitely would buy a Casio with AP printed on the dial. Swatch should announce the discontinuation of the Pluto watch, citing the fact that Pluto is no longer a planet. This should drive prices crazy and hopefully drive Rolex owners crazy.
AP is not as dumb as Omega and are unlikely to cheapen their brand the way Omega has. It's one thing for a 3rd party like Casio to do an affordable homage to an iconic AP watch, but another for Swatchgroup to cannibalize the prestige of one of its own brands for a cheap Swatch product. And neither Rolex or Rolex owners care about the tacky marketing exercises from Omega. Rolex runs an extremely disciplined marketing strategy that has increased the prestige of the brand over time.
@@goldencalf5144 I'm sure the Swatch Group fully intended to shake up the stodgy management and customer base. Omega did not develop the Moon Watch for sockless, short pant suit wearers... The watch collecting community is a giant mutual admiration society that has an over inflated sense of self importance. It's not really viewed well from the outside. The feigned shock and disappointment of the MoonSwatch highlights this point. I'm sure there are plenty of individuals that wore Omegas and Rolexes in the line of duty and put their lives on the line who are disgusted by the thought of a watch boutique. Too bad I'm hours away from a Swatch store or else I'd be flaunting a MoonSwatch because apparently it offends some people.
I don’t get the “Casioak” nonsense. That watch looks almost NOTHING like a Royal Oak. Octagonal bezel, nothing else. Not even any fake screws. Standard G-Shock band, G-Shock case. Looks as much like a Tag Aquaracer as it does a Royal Oak. People are dumb.
Same. I've been souring on Omega recently, but then this happened and it made me head in a different direction. Right now, my collection is all Tudor, Breitling, and Seiko. The moonwatch hype motivated me to seriously consider finally buying a Navitimer.
I have a collection of watches ranging from luxury swiss to iconic seikos. Never really considered Omega as it never seems to stand out. Was contemplating getting the Omega-Swatch but having second thoughts after seeing the poor build quality (even considering it is a Swatch). My perception of Omega has deteriorated post this Omega-Swatch launch.
I own a Speedmaster and I just bought a Moonswatch that I can take to the beach and other activities. I loved the idea and it shows that Omega is a leading brand changing convictions.
I own an original 1969 Speedster. This is genius move by Swatch group. By leveraging their respective and respected brands they have amplified the appeal of a design, an era, a period in history that is fading with an aging population that feel the importance of the moon landing. It's an homage to a beautiful time piece and elevates the original Speedster design and providence and makes it accessible to a new generation. I'm going to buy a Swatch Speedy and wear it - my original Speedster will love sharing my wrist with its grandchild!
I think I keep it pretty real here laying everything out. I am not sure he would be thrilled about my big emphasis losing market share to Rolex and Cartier in this video haha. Anyways, have a nice weekend.
It's a cool concept if it was marketed exclusively under the Swatch brand name, e.g. Swatch Moonwatch. Putting Omega's name and logo prominently on a $250 plastic quartz watch diminishes the brand's premium image.
I’ve got a speedmaster and don’t feel that the moonswatch detracts from mine, in fact I’m thinking of buying, if not the whole collection certainly a few, but I want to have a look at one first. What I am annoyed about is the blatant rip-off on Amazon the pagani moon watch retailing for £117.00 pounds.
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from amzwatch and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
I have always wanted an Omega and thought of them as the ideal tool watch. I love their history in both racing as well as of course space, and their tie to the Bond franchise over the years hasn't been bad for them either. I (as I am sure many) have always wanted a speedmaster and being born in 1969 myself I ideally wanted one in the year I was born. I almost bought one on a trip to Holland 6 years ago, but the sticker shock of a 50 year old watch put me off so I decided to look to a new one instead. Looking at the new ones however I was put off by what seemed to be dozens of variations of what was once sold in maybe 3-6 variations. Now you could get it in multiple colors, band and metal types, and it started to make me wonder, what was the base or "true" Speedmaster anymore? Now with the collaboration with Swatch the brand water down continues. You now have a range choice between crazy overpriced versions with a version the old movement and limited productions down to plastic (and endorsed) carbon copies. I have since bought a Tudor, am looking to pick up a Jaeger-LeCoultre someday, and I might someday have a Speedmaster. It just won't be a new one, it will be from a time when the name meant something.
I was seriously considering buying a speedmaster (more like planning on it) and as soon as this came out, I was so glad I hadn’t bought one yet. Nothing against the moonswatch, I’ll probably buy one, but I won’t be buying a speedmaster anymore
I was on the exact same boat I was about to pull the trigger on the new speedmaster professional model but stopped after they announced the moonswatch collection I felt like the speedmaster design becoming more affordable hurt sales for the moonwatch or at least it did in my case it lost them a sale. I don’t think it’s just us though I think they lost future potential sales because of the fact that some people only want the moonwatch for it’s design
I own a Seamaster Professional Diver Chronograph and a Planet Ocean Chronograph. I will be buying the Mission to Mercury when they become available. I hadn't considered a Speedmaster in the past but this might be my next Omega purchase. My interest in watches had waned over the past few years but this Moonswatch has piqued my interest in watches again.
The one surprise I had is how many people were interested in watches. I never thought I’d see lines outside a watch store. I’m not a fan of the plastic speedy, but won’t stop me from getting one.
hi Teddy , love your video. I currently own four Omegas on my way to my fifth with the 50th anniversary snoopy in a week. I have many luxury watches, but I actually bought five moon watches when they came out just because I like the way they look. I’m not the type of watch owner that will think less of omega because people can buy a similar watch for a fraction of what I had to pay. Early in my life I didn’t have the money to buy a really nice time piece, but still appreciated something nice to wear that could tell the proper time. I think it’s a genius move by the swatch group to bring more young owners into the fold so that they might one day, when they have the budget buy a luxury time piece and I’m sure they’ll choose an Omega…like me… and now own several.
Thanks for watching everyone. What do you all stand on the Swatch x OMEGA collaboration (especially if you are an OMEGA owner)?
I’m gonna get one. I like it.
It's a good cross marketing from swatch group, Using cheaper brand to enhance their premium brand.
Own both, twice as happy
In my opinion this launch does not support the brand perception that Omega has built so far. Nothing in the watches connects to exclusivity, high quality, and tradition.
I like the new models and they will sell like crazy, but I don’t think that in the long term they will improve the way users perceive Omega.
Own a Speedy. Gonna buy a few MoonSwatches when they become available online
It’s not artificial scarcity
Jeffrey that's hard to beleive
@@davidcrandall4958 Why exactly is that hard to believe? We all had to start somewhere in this hobby.
So why ? Aqua Terra owner here! I was so stoked when Moonswatch was announced. For me, I was excited to buy one as a travel or summer watch when I don't want to bring an expensive timepiece on the road. It doesn't hurt the brand for me, if anything it allows me to experiment even more with color, case materials etc. My love for Omega is even stronger with this Collab.
Maybe if this is a success, and it looks like it will be, we will get a whole line of homage Swatch collabs with iconic watches like the Aqua Terra, Railmaster etc.
Maybe a colorful Planet Ocean?
Excellent point about travelling with an expensive watch. I usually carry my Oris 65 and a citizen for snorkeling both of which I can afford to loose without crying but more importantly doesn't attract attention.
It might last most of the summer
I find them to be a bit gaudy and immature. Remind me of the TechnoMarine ceramic phase of the early and mid 2000's. Every out of diapers millennial girl had one, and it sky rocketed the price of an otherwise sub 200 dollar timepiece to criminal levels.

Omega undercut the entire “homage” space by releasing their own homage. Freaking brilliant.
I'll buy the Uranus watch when it becomes available in my region, because it says "Mission to Uranus" and I'm a man child. 🤪🤪
This thing will probably make you not want to buy a real speedmaster.
The moonswatch IS a real SWATCH not A real OMEGA!(swatch of course being A brand within the swatch group)
Good point.
And it has already opened the eyes of many who never looked at the speedmaster professional before!
Its not a part of history. Its just a marketing move for the masses.

Excellent choice, congrats!
Beautiful watch well worth the 250
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! That’s helpful in the discussion. Enjoy the watch and the weekend!

@DonaldTrumpsTinyHands
Nice comment buddy,, 🤣🤣👍
Dream on dude. If they ever get the Money they will buy a Grand Seiko 😂
Do you have any idea how ridiculous your 5% comment is??! 🙄

Just wished I could get my hands on one. ;D
At first I wasn’t fan of the Mars red but after learning about the project Alaska watches I want one of my own.
oh look at me, i have a speedmaster moonwatch
Honestly if they keep making these and make more cool tributes to legendary watches like this it could be a huge long term gain too
You mean by young kids parents!!

If I end up liking the watch I could see myself saving up for a speedmaster one day
Omega and their Speedmasters remain untouched. The collaboration with Swatch was a masterpiece of marketing and opening of wider publics.
Omega remains untouched because it was a SWATCH!!
Now thanks to the moonSwatch, Omega is associated with:
If there is any winner, I think it will be the swatch "brand" while. The swatch "group" and the Omega Brand will suffer!

Correct!

From a person that owns a luxury, mid tier and cheaper watches I actually really like this move, my first Chronograph is going to be a Speedy but this release is not only very fun but also super accessible(if we don't count the silly Selected stores only and the non-existent online preorders -_-)
I'm currently saving for my sapphire sandwich Moonwatch which is a healthy £5,000+ so when these got announced i was a little skeptical but the Mission to Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn really spoke to me.
@@morganbuhborgan730 Same here!! It peaked my interest in the Speedmaster line so I give major props to Omega for being bold

Thank you, Graham. I appreciate the perspective from a long time owner of an OMEGA!
Me too Graham Rushall! I love my Speedmaster and I love the moonswatch as well!
I'm more in concord with your thoughts except they could've released them in a speedy reduce size.
Absolutely
It will kill omega!!
I am waiting for the plastic rolex

I really like Mercury and the Moon one too.
Billy boy. Excellent point!? This is a great sales generator, for plastic swatches!!!!
Brilliant marketing. I’d thought about adding a Speedmaster to my collection . When I couldn’t buy a Moonswatch I took the plunge and bought a co - axial on a nylon strap. Beautiful.
If Apple started selling watches for $ 19, it would be a great success initially, but in two years no one would pay $ 500
Fun ideas but most seas just look the same
@@ReverendMeat51 Not if they start injecting the elements like map and culture of countr(y/ies) or region where that sea is located.
In no way does the moonSwatch hurt Omega, it was fantastic for both brands
Time will tell
I work at a cafe in a mall which has both a swatch and omega store. I showed up to work at 7:30 (cafes open early for staff around the mall to get their coffee) and there was the biggest queue i had seen at 7:30am, and all retail stores open at 9am. I followed the line for about 5 minutes and finally reached the swatch store. I really didnt expect the omega x swatch speedmaster to be that popular. By the time they all finished buying the watch the cafe was overloaded with customers wanting breakfast.
quite a big bunch of them was there only for the flip of profit.
Good for you , you overpaid for a watch that has been overblown in price and not really worth the price tag lol.
@@erico6247 😂
All in all for me it is a very clever market approach - beneficial for both of them 👍🏼
Cool to hear your perspective on this as a long-time luxury buyer.
Correct!.it has pulled in many future buyers for the speedmaster professional
Great that it upsets the watch snobs too 😅
Underlines they're the antithesis of Rolex, all about fun & cool youthfulness rather than boring, staid investment brand.
I’ve always preferred Omega over Rolex.
One fine day, hopefully, I’ll own a speedmaster!
Heh, I hope they don't discontinue Pluto, I love that colourway
@@mach78fl370 you're smart.... Have you seen the kits that you can put the modules in? Obviously not....
For me it destroyed the idea of buying a Speed Master. The Moonswatch feels to me as Collab of Primark and LV.
Says someone who interviewed the Omega CEO not too long ago. Imagine how unbiased take this will be...
Swatch group is like the VW group of watches owning everything from Volkswagen to Audi Porsche and even Bugatti!
