Spending 200+ dollars on a swatch, and expecting the satisfaction of owning us in the master list, the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like me, saying I have this one bedroom condominium but I don’t get the satisfaction of having a 20 bedroom mansion.

I queued up at the Trafford Centre the other day - there’s an official Swatch pop-up selling them - and I finally got one, Mission to Mars. I’m lucky enough to own a Speedmaster and, whilst it doesn’t compare, the MoonSwatch is a really fun homage. Does it feel like a £218 watch? There are better options in terms of raw value out there, for sure, but I’ll give Swatch credit when it comes to the dial design and quality of the printing. The case profiling and finishing is also really nicely done considering how complex the Speedy shape is.

    My circumstances are different.
I frequent estate sales, auctions and yard sales in the colonies. Over the years I’ve bought and sold probably a dozen Speedy Moon watches, but the last two I’ve kept.
I currently have a 1988 model on the bracelet, running, purchased for $50 and a 1969 with an 861 movement on a strap, gotten for $300.
Getting jerked around by Swatch Group over a plastic version that’s inferior in every way left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I’m not going to bite this time around with the WhiteBread.

After a tip from a friend I just got the last Moon version they had in the local store yesterdat - at least at the moment don't know if they'll get more. Hope they'll discontinue them soon.
But I got no intentions of wearing it. Bought it purely as a collectors item.
I also got a Rolex Kermit like 15 years ago - very minimally I've worn it. Though I work in an office I don't like wearing too expensive watches and not too cheap. For decades my daily drivers has been Casio radio controlled - the last in titanium and sapphire. I want my watches to be functional and hassle free. I often find cheap quartz to swim too much over a year when you're dependent on public transport for work. Mechanicals are sure not precise enough to my taste. Got a few other mechanicals as well but they're abot collectors items as well except perhaps for a special occasion. These days my daily watch is Samsung Watch. Sure there's the hassle of charging but accurate thanks to network synchronisation and it comes with added benefits that traditional watches don't - perfect for office use.
But yeah. Plastics is not a great material for watches. Steel, titanium, real ceramics and/or tungsten carbide (actually also a ceramic) is the way to go. Had they only made the moon version in steel (same movement etc. just a steel case) it would have been really awesome.

Let me remind you, that you can count on 1 finger, how many times a Luxury brand has ever collaborated with a fashion brand. These watches, have already gone down in history and has made a significant impact not just in the watch world but in the world of marketing and commercial possibilities. I like watches and have a small “collection” of automatics that I wear. In terms of “value for money,” though, to non watch enthusiasts, that’s a silly argument when you’re talking about a real one costing $8,000 or more. For a watch… that’s likely less accurate than this cheap quartz homage.
This may not give one the satisfaction of owning a real Omega Speedmaster, but is truly 1/20’th as fun to wear? Just saying. The Swatch costs less than half of the sales tax on a real Omega.

Tempted to buy one. Almost go and stuck myself in a line that can lead to fist fight. Imagine I leave in mid east and weather plus mixed nationalities make the smell quite interesting 😂. Its sold everyday at the same price and is sold in the online market twice or thrice the price.
I opted to collect real divers instead. About to reach my 20th piece and I am more happy. Still thinking to get the mission to the 🌚. Or the special edition one. Greed is good once it is discontinued sure the price will be creeping faster than expected.
Nevertheless, if you like the watch buy it. I wouldn’t for now. Speed master though is one of my goal. If finished collecting all Seiko divers I love. I am still buying and flipping some items I deem not to be not for me. Started with just Orient Kamasu and now on my fifth prospex series so far. Ended up selling prior entry watches to give way to more personally loved pieces. With age comes different taste. But I think some time pieces as timeless. A part from the expensive swiss made watches. Seiko offers tons of iconic watches that I can see will be timeless pieces soon. SKX, 62 MAS, Captain Willard, SLA, all Japanese named Prospex/PADI/ Marine (sumo, samurai, tuna, monster, turtle, Shogun), Marine Masters and others.
To each his own. Swatch though overpriced for its specs will be nice collections once the manufacturing stops thats for sure. Best thing to do is to buy it and keep them on prestine condition to flip them in several years now if they don’t decompose before price appreciation. With bioceramic , it is yet to know if it will stand the test of time and by that moment we can say if it is all worth the hustles going for long cues

I am not one of the people looking for an Omega on the cheap. I am on the market for a Swatch. Something thin, light, and cheap that looks great. Either a thin quartz. Or a thick but light plastic automatic. I am not looking for water resistance. I don't care if it bleeds color. I don't care that it isn't crystal saphire (although it's much preferred.) I just want something THIN or LIGHT. Could you therefore make a video of thin and light alternatives to Swatch? Not just the Moonswatch. I would never buy that. Too pricy. But what about Nordgreen? Or some slim Kenneth Coles and Nauticas. Or even stainless steel watches that are chunky and larger but feel light on the wrist. I have an inexpensive Kessaris automatic I paid $20 for and I am happy with it. Sure it steams up at a rock concert in the humidity and I have to put it in the fridge. But I paid $20 for it. It's fairly light enough. But if it's heavy. No way. This is perhaps a more offensive fad than the Moonswatch. The number of people spending $500 on a Seiko - or worse a real $2000 Omega, and then never wearing it because it feels like a brick. Watches are like the bike world when everyone wanted a mountain bike. Most people today want big thick chunky watches, either automatic or smart watches. And I think they're as dumb as the people who have 2 kids and buy an Expedition or Escalade SUV that seats 8 instead of a small sporty Volvo wagon. I want small and sporty. Something I can throw around the curve. I paid $1700 for my Volvo.

This is the usual swatch disappointment. I have a few swatches but I have to say, they're kinda disposable. You buy them because they look pretty when brand new and then in no time they just wear out so quickly and they're just not as good to look at unless you're very very gentle with them

  • @oysterman962

You get what you pay for in quality & construction. But the Omega brand name licensing is what you're paying the extra money for. That in itself is worth more than what you paid. Try buying any Omega under $300!
I've owned the real Moon watch & I bought the MoonSwatch Mercury. I don't think it is the same experience. The colour, texture & subtle design differences do not simulate the real thing. It's only the case mould and overall design but not the fine details which resembles the Speedy. Initially I thought it was going to cannibalize Omega sales but after owning it, I think they are completely different in aesthetics that you won't feel the same wearing experience. As for collectibility. Don't think so. Too many already on the market. Perhaps the Neptune which has currently been temporarily discontinued due to quality control issues. If you're serious in collecting them as investment then I suggest the least desired models will have potential to increase in value due to less being purchased meaning they'll be rarer. Perhaps the Sun and Venus for example

This is a collaboration between Omega AND Swatch. I think people really forgetting Swatch here and people who like swatches love this watch IMO. I know it's the same group, but this isn't a Speedmaster contracted out to Swatch, it's Swatch's usual boundry/tech/industry pushing style mixed with Omega. it's meant to be worn, abused, and be worn regularly. Anyone who has been a long time swatch fan/wearer is already familiar with that.
I've owned swatches in every price range for almost three decades (since I was a kid) and it's a refreshing design collaboration with what I expect from Swatch. You should wear this watch as often as possible and basically beat the watch into the ground, then throw on some polywatch clear up the watch face and keep on going until the thing is dead. This is not meant to be babied and coveted and saved for your grandkids.
Given Swatch's unfortunate increase in pricing, its price tag isn't that crazy either. They're not that much more expensive than system and irony and have the Omega style that pushes them over the edge that a regular Omega doesn't have.

... Having just acquired The Mission To The Moon model I'm absolutely blown away with it! Was it / Is it still the hype god knows but OMG when I first opened the box and put it on my wrist it's been a very long time since I've ever felt about a watch in a very very long time! I own a Rolex Sub, BB58 and Tags etc but eventually getting my hands on this silly little plastic watch beats them all hands down just for the novelty reason and exclusivity too! Yes ok I have to baby the Bio ceramic watch I only ever wear it for going out / for best etc. I never have it near water and I don't sleep with it on either. I'm actually that impressed with it so much I've literally just bought the Mission To Mercury one too so I can swap them about and not wear them both out lol. I love the straps as well ok there not the best quality I must admit but the design and function says it all to me. Again for me it's about being different as I've only ever seen one person wear one in Meadowhall. No matter were you go or places you visit Rolex, Tudor and Co are here there and everywhere on people's wrists there gen to a penny this day and age. Now a MoonSwatch is in a complete league of its own just for it's exclusivity reasons? lol

Fun video, I gave it a like! As someone who started their watch collection journey with Swatch in the 1980s, owning some rather rare pieces (including an unworn 1983 Men's prototype), my journey into collecting has took me to own a Planet Ocean, GMT Master II and various other wonderful timepieces. The closest Swatch store for me? 1,557 Miles or 2505 kilometers). I wanted a Mission to Mercury because I LIKED THE WATCH. They are made to enjoy. Collecting Swatch watches misses the point of ownership to an extent-You wouldn't wear a Speedmaster every day either if you were a factory worker. Enjoyment is the thing missing from ownership and collecting, and these had that balance for me. I will always be careful with most of my watches, but I don't care what it's worth later-I spent the money to enjoy RIGHT NOW. I refuse to regret my purchase, and will continue to enjoy all 67 watches I own...Cheers!

I'm sorry but your points are at the same time valid and silly.
I don't think anyone who knows a little about watches exptected this watch to "replace Speed master".
We all know what to expect from Swatch watches.
Omega brings to this colaboration their logo and Speedmaster design.
    Swatch brings cheap quartz platform.
I think for anyone who likes Speedmaster and legacy that comes with Omega logo, the retail price is perfect. I would not pay for it 500$ which seems to be regular price online these days. But if you can get it at retail value. It's great.
Your videos about the alternatives are pointless because there is no alternative for this colab. There are loads of different chronograph watches for sure. Actual Bulova moon watch (if you have a hand for it). But that's not the point. I don't think anyone who is interested in buying this is looking for a chronograph. They are looking for this chronograph.
Despite all yoru shitting on it. You can't deny that it looks freaking awesome 3:23 2:49. And that look is pretty much synonymous with Omega speedmaster.

I have the mission to Uranas moonswatch and I was forreal disappointed once I had it on my wrist. I dont like the strap so I bought a white silicone strap and replaced it. I live in philly and the king of Prussia mall had a swatch store so i was in luck to have quick assess to a store. The only thing is they only had limited options to pick from so I went with uranas. The hype behind it really died once I got home. It's cool to wear when I'm on vacation because I wear brighter colors to match the watch but the hype died quick. I paid $240 for a plastic watch that's not a real speed master. I get it, its a swatch and not omega but my expectations were a lil high. On a side note, I think this was kind of expected. The only reason behind this move for omega and Swatch is to capitalize in an Omega brand with Swatch (or less) quality. It wouldn't make sense to offer a good value for money option and use this marketing, the marketing itself is being used for attracting people to a sub-par watch that needs that name to hold itself. The only reason that I would find for the opposite would be if it was to maybe gain long time user loyalty from new watch buyers buying the moonswatch as their first watch.

Comparing this swatch with the 20X price Moonwatch, is pointless. Coparing it to other cheap watch (including Swatch's) pointless too. The intelligent buyer buys this, NOT to have a "cheap" copy of a Speedy Moonwatch, or to have a cheap watch to tell time. Many (myself included) buy them to have the item itself, and agreed to pay the price accordingly. That's why many of us patiently waited many many months, to see the dumb hype decrease, and buy them at the correct retail price.

It is a low cost sort of replica of the real Speedmaster. The quality level is not near to that of a Casio G-Shock in the same price range even though a Casio G-Shock does not look like this. The Casio is in a metalized composite type case with a mineral glass.
Omega should have done a better job on this watch for the money charged, or maybe charge a bit more for better quality. I have an original Speedmaster Mark II professional I bought in 1974. It is the version with the sapphire crystal. I get it maintained every 5 years or so by the local Omega service. It looks like new and runs like new. Back in 1974, I paid over $1200 CDN for it. Great watch! About 7 years ago I bought myself the Omega Planet Ocean. Another great watch! Easy to read, and it's terrific. I put it a NATO strap on it.
For regular wearing when doing work around the home or being physically active I some Casio G-Shocks that I wear. Right now I am wearing the GWG-2000 Casio watch. I also have some other high end G-Shock watches. I like the solar versions. No battery to worry about.

Overpriced at $260 but thinks the Speedmaster is fine at $5000usd.

Imho, paying anything over $1000 for a watch is just plain ridiculous, and this is coming from a watch enthusiast. At the end of the day a watch is archaic technology that will - at max - cost $500 to make unless they ice the F out of them.
