It's very accurate when on my wrist and extremely durable for a watch of it's pricing, which was 20 on Amazon and I paid 8 quid on eBay. @@eurekarx2048here’s the thing a rolex is not more valuable because of the manufacturer, it is more valuable because of what people are willing to pay for them. We don’t even need to talk about fakes, why is a Daytona more expensive than the Omega Speedmaster? While the Rolex is slightly better made than the Omega, it is not 10k dollars nicer… well it’s because rich people think that Hollywood is cooler than science. They will pay up to 17 million dollars for Paul Newmans Daytona, but only 250k for speedmaster, one flown to space.
      Which drives the point, for rich people today Rolex has always been cool, a status symbol. All their hero’s and cool dudes wore one. So they will pay more for them, to be one of them. Their money is stored in a semi-stable place, and they have a heirloom for generations. They will always have value, and it’s too popular to be forgotten like the pocket watch.
      When the fake comes out with a product, that is 99% the real one for 99% of the problem, it still doesn’t matter, it won’t hold its price, and it will be a regular item, not something that could be consider an investment on itself.

      To be fair and accurate, the replica is literally matching the craftmanship, so it is worth 700, easily. From the movement to the brushed steel. The problem with watches, is turnover rate. A rolex is in no way shape or form worth a full $10k, it takes about 200-350$ to make one (estimated), you're paying for the name and exclusivity, which again, makes you a dumb dumb. @@stevefox8605 sure. But the fakes have "value" because theres a brand created over 100 years ago that built recognition, history and perceived value in the eyes of the consumer. The fake market only exists because of the gens. The fakes take their value indirectly from the original brands. You have people willing to pay for a fake just to pretend they have the gen. That's how valuable brand recognition and history have. If people just wanted a better price worthy watch then they would just buy a seiko. and btw we are forgetting than a luxury watch if properly maintained will last you a life time and hold value. a fake will be gone after some time and always be worthless.

      @@MarkMilotay good Rolex and Omega replicas have been able to accept genuine movements and parts for years, this isn't anything new. The point is, Rolex and Omega have made it so that these parts can only be sourced directly through them now, which has meant that they are now getting very difficult and expensive to source via any other means. So yes, you could buy a replica Sub for instance, and then buy a genuine movement for it, but you'd end up with a very very expensive replica that Rolex would take off you if it ever went in for a service. So what would be the point? OK so you don't go down the route of putting a genuine movement in, because it's too expensive. So you get a genuine dial, hands, stem, crown, sapphire. That's still a huge investment into a replica watch that anyone could tell was fake within 2 seconds as soon as the case back comes off. Again... What's the point?

    11:20 I wouldn't say the original's laser etched crown is poorer quality than the fake's - it's actually the opposite. The laser dots in the original crown are placed at different depths of the crystal, so the crown will look perfect when viewed directly from above, but appear "irregular" when viewed from an angle. The comparison at 11:20 actually demonstrates how this feature can be used to identify a fake!

    Jenni, the difference between the authentic and fake laser etched crowns in this comoarison is that the authentic etching places the dots that make up the crown at alternating depths in the crystal, which adds complexity and makes the crown look odd and sloppy when viewed at an angle other than "en face." The dots on the counterfeit look "cleaner" at an angle because they are all applied in the same plane/same depth, which tells you it is not genuine.

    This entire thing really makes you wonder what the point of an ultra high end watch is. When quartz first came out, the high end watch makers embraced it since it was objectively better. But as the cost of making a quartz watch started to crash, everyone realized that this would put high end watch makers out of business. Companies like Rolex pointed out that even though their movements were old fashioned, they were also works of art that were built by skilled craftsmen. Now they can mass produce movements that are just as good as the hand built ones. How long will it be before they can mass produce a watch that is basically identical to the real one? Will that finally put companies like Rolex out of business?

      Rolex is selling 2 million watches per year and I don't even know if that includes Tudor. There are so many people using cheap debt (due to low interest rates) to buy up Rolex watches as an investment or to scalp. Once rates go higher and a recession hits, demand will evaporate and the millions of Rolex watches that are selling will start to pile up at dealers across the world. The price is going to crash just like with stocks, crypto and other speculative assets. It's just a matter of time.

Plus, your angles from the fake vs. original are different from each other. You show the fake and then the original but it's hard to compare because the fake is no longer on the screen. I would much rather see still photographs framed and cropped exactly the same for both the fake vs. the original. Keep the fake vs. original side-by-side on the screen (like at 9:38) so we can see them next to each other. And on the photos use arrow to point to the areas you're talking about. Sharp, detailed photos are better and less distracting than these sometimes out of focus images you're showing here. Put the camera on a tripod and shoot a f16 for insanely detailed and clear shots. Sure, no waiting list and $32k for a watch that retails for nearly half that. Shame on you Rolex for creating situations where your watches are only available in the secondary market where places like this rape you on the price. How does this happen? Tons of supply but only at outrageously inflated prices in the secondary market.

    • @whynotlin7998
      @whynotlin7998 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While Rolex is definitely partly to blame, I think the whole thing is now a self-fulfilling prophecy now. Secondary Dealers buyout all the stock (or their sources buy out all the stock), and they put for sale at inflated prices. That's why in Asia, there are actually a ton of stores that carry lots of Daytonas, but the list price is already up there.

If you wear a fake amongst wealthy people, they will assume it's real because no one really cares that you are wearing a rolex so they won't challenge it. If you wear a real one amongst poor people. Everyone will assume it's a fake because it's unusual and no one can afford it.
