Yes Mag Threonate is quite effective in helping my short term memory. Been on a mag 3 supplement for three years. There are other neurotrophic compounds but mag 3 works well and quickly.
Seems like diarrhea and nausea are common side effects. WHY not mention this or didn't it cross their minds or blood-brain barrier? Magnesium Glycinate doesn't cause this but of course, it won't help much cognitively.
There are other brain supplements one can explore. Combining a few other brain ingredients rather than take just l threonate .for example Dr Joe Dispenza has formulas.
Correct! We have been writing about magnesium L-threonate for years. Here is a link to one of our articles on this topic: www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2020/6/magnesium-l-threonate-regenerates-brain-structures
I’ve had much trouble sleeping for the last few decades - like 2-5 hours/night (usually 3-4). I tried magnesium - probably citrate - a year or two ago and got nothing - not even side effects. As soon as I watched this video I ordered some Magtein. I started taking it on Nov. 22, and after one month my sleep had increased to 7-9 hours sleep, or more, if I was able to stay in bed long enough! I’m blown away by the improvement. Within two weeks, I heard (I think from Dr. Andrew Huberman) that people who wake up and can’t go back to sleep should also take Apigenin, a derivative of chamomile, so I ordered it as well. These two supplements are life-changing for me! Thank you for this report and research!

Thanks for this very useful and informative presentation. I discovered magnesium L thereonate over two years ago and I have been taking this supplement at night since that time. I had been taking magnesium glycinate prior to discovering magnesium glycinate, as I have osteoporosis and added magnesium to my regimen to boost my chances of improving my bone density. I was not sure if I should continue taking magnesium glycinate with L theonate, so I continued taking both at different times of the day (Glycinate early in the day and L thereonate at night. Now that I know that L thereonate also provides many of the other benefits that other forms of magnesium provide in terms of bone strength , I will now reduce the dose of magnesium Glycinate. In-keeping with what was said in this presentation about L Thereonate and its contribution to sleep, I also found no evidence that I was able to fall asleep much quicker, but I did notice that I was mentally alert on waking and throughout the day, even when I did not sleep very well.
Thanks for this, I've switched to this form of Magnesium recently (3-weeks ago), and although I cannot tell the difference yet, I did notice; no side effects like the other Magnesium supplements. Thanks.

Potential Benefits of Taking Multiple Forms Combining different forms of magnesium can provide a more comprehensive and balanced nutrient profile. Each form has its own unique characteristics, and using a combination can help ensure you are meeting your specific magnesium needs. For example, someone experiencing constipation may benefit from the use of magnesium oxide alongside a more well-absorbed form like magnesium citrate or glycinate. Furthermore, taking multiple forms of magnesium can offer a wider range of health benefits. Magnesium oxide, known for its high elemental magnesium content, can support bone health and aid in maintaining normal blood pressure levels. On the other hand, magnesium citrate is often used for its gentle laxative effect and can help promote regular bowel movements. Additionally, combining different forms of magnesium can enhance the overall absorption and utilization of this essential mineral in the body. While some forms may have better absorption rates, others may provide a sustained release of magnesium over a longer period of time. By incorporating various forms, you can optimize the bioavailability and efficacy of magnesium supplementation.
I take both mag glycinate and mag l-threonate. I must say I haven’t noticed any difference when I started l-threonate, which I took alone for several months. But I hear all these positive reports so I keep taking it, just in case! I get a high quality brand and it’s super expensive, double-triple the price of glycinate.
The reason is simple: simple mag compound is too cheap to be profitable. They need to invent a new compound, patent it and publish papers, then promote it. No one will fund research and publish papers on un patentable compound.
If you listened to the video the doctor said it would take 2 weeks to see results of taking it. A Blind Placebo Test was performed on a group. Half the group took the Magnesium supplement and half took a placebo. The results were determined after 2 weeks. After two weeks those taking the Magnesium supplement were then taken off and within the same period of time they lost the benefits from taking the Magnesium supplement in a 2 week period.
I've been taking l-threonate for a couple years since dr Mark Hyman started recommending it. The change is very subtle and is not like a life changing experience instantaneously but at 69 I was definitely losing mental clarity and short term memory. I'm feeling like my old self now :)
Hi, Bonnie. One of the positive effects that are immediate is better sleep onset and duration. If taken with L-Theanine, GABA receptors and GABA levels are both increased adding to better relaxation and better quality sleep. The lag of recognizable benefits may also be due to upregulating of the benefits when we start in a deficient state. You may want to have your Mg levels checked, since you are taking two types of bioavailable Mg (Glycinate and Threonate). Both are great, but you may want to alternate between them to prevent too much serum Mg. Best to you.
Can you provide a link to the study you describe around 14 minutes into the video? From what I read, most of the research on L-Threonate has been conducted on mice. Unless things have changed recently, there has only been one study on humans & the results of that study have been mixed. Can you provide a link to the study mentioned at 27 minutes? Thanks!
It seems like a push to buy life extension supplements. Not saying that they are not effective but some other less expensive brands could work as well.
I found Magnesium L-Threonate a few weeks before I found this video. This was a good watch. Just through pure luck, the multi vitamin I take has very low levels of magnesium, so I can take L-Threonate in combination with it. The video explains taking L-Threonate is OK as long as your other supplements are low in Magnesium.
So in her explanation of her trial in taking magtein at night is better in that your body breaks down and builds up so the uptake/ absorption is much better. So better to take at night as to wake with a abundant reguvanation in mind and body.
Interesting that LifeExtension's Magtein product contains too many extra additives. I found two brands out there that had rice flour. I'd rather they had no additives but if I can't find 0 additives, then I'll go with the 1 and rice flour is something I can say and recognize as simple compared to all the other additives. So Magtein has been around for a while and the last research I did was that Oxide was the best, now this comes out and says the L-Threonate is better? I hope they are not just pushing their brand. I will go with the other brand that has less ingredients that LifeExtension that has Other ingredients: vegetable cellulose (capsule), microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, silica, vegetable stearate. If I have to look them up to see what they are, I don't want them in my foods.
Great comment…packed with useful information! Did I understand that you were not going to go with Life Extension brand? What brand then did you find with just the rice additive? I’m trying to discern the exact same thing. These additives are seldom mentioned in these discussions and they are important to many of us. Please update if at all possible. Thank you.
Excellent video and thank you all for making this video. I am ready to get some and try it for myself. Can you tell me if Magtein has been given to people with seizure disorders in a study to see if it helped reduce seizures? Thanks again for this information. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻💫
I took that and didn't notice a difference but an epsom salt foot bath...WOW! 1 cup in warm/hot water and soak your feet 30min-1hr 3X a week. Your welcome.
@@alanparsonsfan Yes. Agreed. Mg salts, then Mg flakes (a bit more concentrated) then Mg Oil (strongest concentration) also very useful for those who don’t have a bath to soak in. But use a shower. Can apply it locally. I read a report many years ago about a Professor of Biology in Birmingham University UK. Did a study of a large sample group. He measured their Mg levels, then said take a bath in 100L of water with a 20% solution of Mg salts. For 20 minutes every day for 7 days. Then return to be measured again. He found that the whole group on average had improved Mg levels by appx. 33%. Which is massive. Especially when compared to supplements or food. Which offer either fractions of a percentage point (trace amounts) or maybe 1-2% at best. Ergo: the skin being our biggest gland offers the most efficient way of getting Mg into the body. May the Force be with you.🌀 (-: :-)
Hmmmm, maybe I m just weird, but I've never found any benefit from Epsom salts in either a bath or foot soak. I hear people say how great this works, and I try it and ...nothing. I have way better results taking supplements.
You may need to add more to the water also any essential oils will hinder absorption, even lotion you may have slathered on. Most don't have the luxury of time for a soak so supplements will have to suffice. Don't be afraid to try something different. @@wayneherron6511
I have used several forms of magnesium over the years. They each have their benefits. I have had the best luck taking several forms. For leg cramps that wake me in the night with terrible calf, foot, or leg cramps that nothing but a walk would relieve, rubbing pure magnesium oil into that foot and leg provides immediate relief so I can return to sleep. The only reason I am considering taking magnesium L-threonate is that the few magnesium complex capsules I have found with at least 7 forms do not also contain L-threonate and it apparently, with current research, affects the brain. So I will be taking the multicomplex and one tab of L-threonate.
Why is it so "excellent" when they don't (won't?) even provide the all-important link they describe in the video? Methinks you are biased or compromised in your praise.
@VishalRaoOnTH-cam. So, it's gone from being an "excellent" to being a "thorough" interview; but still without providing the all-important link they describe in the video in the video that would support either of your unsubstantiated claims. @@VishalRaoOnTH-cam Let's put that aside; here is where I am coming from: I have studied and researched the various claims about Magnesium Threonate's ability to cross the brain's blood barrier and thus enhance the health and working of the brain and - keeping it simple - none of them support the claims that have or are being made - except in the case where mice ( not humans) were experimentally used and even that was very scant. I am a long-time user of Magnesium Glycinate and have greatly benefitted from it and its benefits have been fully and properly researched and published. Perhaps you would reveal where you are coming from and would demand the provision of the missing all-important link. Or perhaps........

Magnesium chloride is a great alternative if you can't afford threonate. It definitely gets to the brain quickly because one ofy seizure supplements is mag chloride. If I take it when I take when I feel the beginnings of seizure, it shuts it down within minutes.
It would really be helpful to viewers if you provide a link to where this specific product can be purchased. Or at least tell us if it cannot be purchased. This is very fascinating! Is there a liquid form? I was looking into magnesium for my knee OA. Id like the purest version in liquid form to try rubbing it with DMSO onto my neck, especially along the carotid arteries. What do you say?
I hope you are very aware of the great need for care in using DMSO purity. I understand that it is a transporter of many chemicals through skin tat normally would be kept out by the skin barrier. I read research cautions yeas ago about this, and have noticed it myself, but potential for adverse effects of different chemicals transported through skin more than usual raises concerns. I'd carefully read more recent research on this before using it, especially if not done under careful medical oversight.
@@raykinney9907ray, thanks for your thoughts and sincere concerns. We all put so many bad things into our bodies, mostly thru our mouths and noses. But the skin is the biggest organ and that absorbs much more than we want to admit. Proceeding cautiously makes sense. Thanks!

This is old news, Mag L-Threonate has been known about for a long time. The studies I read, show very high levels need to be taken to achieve big results, but we are talking about levels that cause toxicity (according to animal testing in labs).
Since magnesium L-threonate is for the brain and the L-threonate portion is what allows the absorption to go to the brain, should we take additional magnesium such as magnesium glycine for other parts of the body? Or will that overdose the person?
Interesting, I continue to see magnesium glycinate as being the most absorbable magnesium. The research I've done indicates that L-threonate is not easily absorbed and alot of it is urinated out, that's why you have to take so much of it. So I'm confused in that regards as well as when should you take magnesium L- threonate? I must have missed it , before bed or during the day, or does it matter because it's stored in tissues?
Great questions! Different forms of magnesium have unique benefits. Magnesium L-Threonate is intended to promote brain health due to its unique structure and can be used at any time. For those seeking to support overall magnesium levels in the body, a higher potency is typically suggested. Magnesium L-Threonate is proposed to move through GLUT receptors along the blood-brain barrier, with L-Threonate facilitating the transport of magnesium into the brain. Several studies have demonstrated that magnesium L-Threonate aids in maintaining cognitive function and memory due to this enhanced transportation of magnesium into the brain (DOI: 10.3233/JAD-150538). These distinctive properties enable magnesium L-Threonate to more effectively cross the blood-brain barrier compared to other magnesium forms.
I always wonder if the other magnesium's go to the brain blood barrier, but are not published studies. Magnesium L threonate is a patented supplent so it is way more expensive then the other forms.

Thank you.
Look into jigsaw magnesium products. They are only ines with their own independent product studies.
Yes, through the skin is the most efficient way you get mag into your system. And Epsom salts has a lot of mag in it.
@@alanparsonsfan
Yes.
May the Force
be with you.🌀

Thank you. 🙏 ❤
Brilliant!
Gratitude for this very well explain I do begin to take I am 70s.
Thank you for the support!
So good to share this. Very important🔶🔶🔶
If you get cramping, you are not taking enough magnesium.. you need a min RDA of 300-400mg per day.. probably more..
Dr. Jennifer Gu thank you ever so much!
I take 3 of these every night, helps me sleep!😊
Where are the research articles for the presentation that the guest is giving us. Thank you!
Excellent interview, Dr. Mike and Dr. Crystal!
Thank you!
Why is it so "excellent" when they don't (won't?) even provide the all-important link they describe in the video? Methinks you are biased or compromised in your praise.
@TheJohnhurt it's a thorough interview not a published systematic review. Methinks you're expectations are a tad bit off.
Magnesium l-Threonate was patented in 2009.
Patent is valid for 20 years.
Well said Richard!
Great information.
Thanks!
I get a headache everytime I try to take L-threonate.
Such great news. I love it.
Very interesting - Very helpful - Thank you.
Awesome ❤
I tried Magnesium L -Threonate years ago, no difference to Ionic Magnesium. In fact, after 4 months of using Magnesium L -Threonate I had to return to Ionic as my eyelid began twitching again and the leg cramps were getting unbearable.
wow, nice testimony, what brand? are all ionic mags alike?.
@@fondrees So far I've used 3 different brands when the Good State one was out of stock. They all appear the same, just a difference in price and quantity.
I followed the research and I use Ancient Minerals because the magnesium chloride is bioavailable. @@fondrees
Did you think to try Potassium in correct amounts?
For me, the potassium "No Salt" kitchen salt substitute and the magnesium chloride was reducing ventricular arrhythmia. So noting that I went on a building/life extension program that leverages natural HGH via arginine pyroglutamate and l-lysine 1200mg/ea per the Isidori study, and included collagen, vitamin C, whey, selenium, the b vitamins per Dr. Abram Hoffer, and so on to build the aorta to be strong and the tissues flexible....@@stelmarsky6778
Thanks for this information. Dr. Gu mentioned that they produced L Threonate . What brand name was her formula?
Magtein is the trademark behind L-Threonate. They have also a licence for Magnesium L-Threonate.
i heard magnesium glycinate its a very good one

Dosage?
Max via supplement vs recommended?
The standard dose is 144 milligrams. The max dose is 288 milligrams.👍🏻
everyone should be extra careful with magnesium l-Threonate , it does work but it is addictive and some people will get awful withdrawals from stopping it after supplementing for a very small amount of time .
Hi, all I want to know is what Dr Goo skincare products are? She has an amazing skin

What is a recommended dosage for Magnesium L-threonate if taken by itself?
144 milligrams.
Where can I get this, please?
As everything in nature, there is an optimal position, and when you are deficient, you are sub-optimal. In my case it was omega-3s = I was deficient, so when I started fish oil it changed my life. But I am not superman, I just experience now the wonders of being optimal in some areas. (memory, energy and happiness = those are huge) The few days when i realised i had now numbers memory and that I could restart work every time perfectly where I left off, It's the best experience of my life to me. I'm 47 and I never had that performance before.
Rather than talking about how this magnesium is better than others on the market, I would like to see actual proof; documentation by independent scientific studies comparing ALL the magnesiums.
Would this be a possible therapy for misfiring that takes place with learning disabilities adhd?
Can u mix mag treonate ad mag glycinate?if so what's the benefit?
Did I miss the recommended dosage?
144 milligrams.
Magnesium chloride is a great alternative if you can't afford threonate. It definitely gets to the brain quickly because one ofy seizure supplements is mag chloride. If I take it when I take when I feel the beginnings of seizure, it shuts it down within minutes.
Amen. It's the only one I immediately noticed it's effects. Maybe 2 hours after.:)
Cheers❤
So do you take it at regular times or only when you feel a seizure coming on .
What is the proper dosage for Magnesium L Threonate? Really enjoyed this video, thank you -
Where can I get this type of mg? Thank you for you help! Everybody is different, so don’t have too much expectation 👍🙏🏼
I bought it at Sprouts. It wasn’t in the aisle with all other magnesium. It was with the brain health supplements. Or online.

It would really be helpful to viewers if you provide a link to where this specific product can be purchased. Or at least tell us if it cannot be purchased. There isn't a lot of value to viewers if you interview someone who is extolling the virtues of the specific formulation if the general public cannot access it. Can you please comment back on this?

Spinach is said to have high magnesium content, is this why it's called "the happy veggie?" I've experienced the "happy" post spinach meals...
Is this product only for the elderly?
I'm sticking with the pico-meter sized magnesium from Carolyn Dean.
magtech is the best magnesium to take, it has l-threonate, glycinate and taurate
thats a good trio. so many of the mag blends are full of the cheapest varieties. mag taurate also crosses the blood brain barrier, although not as readily as threonate.
I don´t take magnesium glycinate because nobody is sure if this glycine is glyphosate instead of glycine...

This is very fascinating! Is there a liquid form? I was looking into magnesium for my knee OA. Id like the purest version in liquid form to try rubbing it with DMSO onto my neck, especially along the carotid arteries. What do you say?
You dont need l-threonate for body, its special cuz it can go into brain. So a good vitamin shop should he able to guide u for knee issues
Thanks!
There is a liquid form from Australia. Many people swear by it. I tried one drop on my knee which sweeled to 4 times its size, that confirmed I am allergic to any form of magnesium.....go figure.

Was it also compare with magnesium glycine, if yes what was the outcome.
This is old news, Mag L-Threonate has been known about for a long time. The studies I read, show very high levels need to be taken to achieve big results, but we are talking about levels that cause toxicity (according to animal testing in labs).
How many mg should we take in 1 day?
Since magnesium L-threonate is for the brain and the L-threonate portion is what allows the absorption to go to the brain, should we take additional magnesium such as magnesium glycine for other parts of the body? Or will that overdose the person?
Does Magnesium L-threonate help the brain fix tinnitis?
I would suggest seeing your dentist to see if you are grinding at night or if your lower jaw is naturally set more posterior in its natural position.
Mg T is phenomenal
