    My worst flight experience was the real one.
    I was fresh newbie CPL and flew turboprop L-410 night cargo flight from LKPD to LKVO. L-410 have only simple GPS, no FMS. We flew to Vodochody, by GPS we should be in the position, but we had not visual on the airport. We seen the city, plus minus as I'm from Prague we were capable to triangulate where we are...but where the airport should be was just the dark hole...
    It's took a two go around until we found the place, but hell, it's was a worst experience ever as we were a fuel dry when we get to Prague...and Prague ATC is always pain in the ass...

    My worst experience was during my first flights on VATSIM , I had to ask the ATC to repeat the instructions so many times it wasn’t even funny. Also it was very busy, so I had to withstand him shouting at me to “listen better” and take “better notes” of the instructions. 😂

    this reminds me of the flight i've done from romania bucharest to beijing with one refuel stop in kazahstan. when doing the approch at beijing, ive discovered that i do not have any working instruments and no FMC, just relying on the ATC telling me the altitude and speed. It was night and a bit foggy and just on final found out i don't have a landing gear as well and also no flaps indicator, so i didn't knew if they are deployed or not. But hats off for the ATC from Beijing with his perfect english and his help, i've managed to do a belly landing at around 143kts after the second attempt. What a flight I had.
    P.S. was using a TAROM Boeing 737-800 NGX

    I was flying from Paris to Ivory Coast (Cote ivore) but had to divert to the nearest airport with my A350 because I ran out of fuel, luckily I managed to land with one engine fully working.
    Sadly I couldn't continue my flight as I faulted the plane by not turning on APU so rip me.

    You gotta read mine! It was on 26th May 2018, I was flying from Istanbul to Düsseldorf with Blackbox Simulations' Airbus A330-300. The flight was fine until the throttles suddenly went all the way to TOGA when I was about 40 nautical miles away from Hungarian airspace. I was like "What is going on?". I tried to put the throttles to CLB detent (Which it should be there after thrust reduction until landing) but then the aircraft *insisted* to return to TOGA detent. I tried to balance the aircraft's power in order to maintain the targeted airspeed and to avoid excessive fuel consumption by pressing F1 maybe hundreds of times! It was a torture to me! I decided to continue my flight to Düsseldorf despite the problem. But it all got worse when I was about to enter the final approach course. I was approaching to runway 05R on ILS approach. But when the throttles went to TOGA again, it had climbed assuming that I'm going around. It's a bit hard to tell how the situation was but I had to declare an emergency due to my aircraft not maintaining altitude and throttles stuck at TOGA! Both autopilots were enabled at that time maybe that's why it didn't maintain altitude. It took me a time to know that. But then, I landed safely at Düsseldorf airport. After that flight, I decided to return to Istanbul with PMDG's Boeing 777-300ER. There are other incident stories of mine but I decided to pick that one. It's the worst in my opinion.

    The worst Vatsim flight I ever made was the one on the first wings event (don’t worry it was my 7th flight on vatsim) The controllers spoke so quite or ignored you although nobody else was speaking and the other pilots were so annoying. They flew with American delta or Qantas and sometimes did not know how to fly their plane! The guy in front of me was trying to figure out how to take off! If you want to learn how to fly then do it via tutorials and not with the ATC. All together created a delay of 40mins and then when I arrived the EGGD controllers left (the event was not even over yet)

    • @RNPAR0.1
      @RNPAR0.1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the point of "First Wings" was to get new pilots flying with ATC on VATSIM... Before my first flight on VATSIM I had at least 2 weeks of studying real life procedures and phraseology. Not everyone has the patience to understand how things work before jumping into VATSIM.
      Anyway, "First Wings" was an opportunity to have ATC guide pilots who are noobs/new to the network

    Mine was a Cross the Pond event. In real life I've flown (as a passenger) from KIAD to DUB. I decided I was going to recreate the flight for CTP, my first ever.
    The flight over was great. Had some IMC to near minimums for landing. No worries, I shoot the ILS like a boss and I'm getting close to minimums and still no runway. Just as we hit minimums I see the runway and it's waaay off to the left.
    Obvious go-around situation, but for whatever reason my brain goes full off-line (or steam version) mode. I cut the autopilot and bank a hard left; I've been flying for 6.5hrs, I'm putting this bird down!
    I crashed. The combination of the steep turn, low altitude and inexperience in hand flying a 747 wasn't pretty. Upon crashing, I hard shut down my PC hoping the controllers would just think I disconnected. I even left the house so I wouldn't be home in case the Vatsim police called to investigate.
    In the wake of doing all the prep work to make sure my routing was allowed and brushing up on the procedures I didn't do any practice landings in Ireland to check if my sceneries and ILS frequencies were correct. I kinda didn't want to. I had never seen the airport in the sim before so I thought it'd be cool landing at a completely unfamiliar airport, which is not uncommon in real life actually.
    So to takeaway from that, always keep your composure. Even though it's a sim, I would have gone around in real life had that situation happened and I shouldn't have to tried to force the landing, especially at minimums. Also, check that your airport sceneries match your charts. Otherwise you might shoot an ILS to a runway that hasn't been built yet!

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's always hard: how far do you want to go to pretent it's not a sim, especially under time pressure or, for example, when you really want to go to bed. Thanks for sharing your story!

    My worst flight was my second one on vatsim, EIDW to EBBR on the 777-300ER. I was not aware that the PTT button on my joystick was also mapped to TO/GA. During the descent I already noticed a few strange things and after the landing clearance I seemingly lost total control of the plane. Had to go around about 3 times and ironically it was not until the controller logged off after being patient with me for half an hour that I was able to put it on the ground. 😂 Took me a year before I dared to connect to vatsim again. 😅

    So how did being on VATSIm make things WORSE (or not )? I was expecting controllers yelling at you calling you a Noob? Thats the burden of being a Captain - its you and only you that can make the tough decisions. But in the end is only a simulator.
    I was once in a ship simulator doing river pilotage (eyeball navigation) and I was set up to meet in a place that we avoid meeting at. I had the right of way (I was downbound) and the other ship (controlled by a technician) should have waited for me. He didn't and we met safely at a VERY narrow place in the river with tons of current. The instructor came in and yelled at me for meeting there. My answer - I had the right of way, you better go talk to the technician....he stormed out.

    One of my worst VATSIM session was when I'm pretty new with the network. I was flying from Vienna to Innsbruck with a321, i was pretty new with airbus family as well as I'm a Boeing guy. The lack of mastery in the aircraft, English is actually my 3rd language, plus the heavy German accented ATC basically brewed into a disaster. I was sweating bullet trying to understand the aircraft, what the ATC are saying, and scouring over my chart. It was painful experience to say the least but was a very humbling experience

    Another very dangerous flight I had on the network was a local hop from KPHL to KLNS (Lancaster) Cruise was low, as we were VFR, around maybe 1000-2000 ft AGL. Long story short, weather changed in a matter of minutes, and during dusk, extremely thick fog set in from 3500 ft down to just 100 ft above. I was flying an EMB-120 Brasilia, which isn’t exactly the most maneuverable plane in the world (not many are when you have 100 feet to make a maneuver) and we had to resort to IFR ruling and initiate an ILS approach as the 20+ Mi visibility conditions we took off with just disappeared. This was the perfect time for the ILS system servos to fail, resulting in me having to blindly hand fly the plane down onto the runway with no visual contact with the field until by then was 50 feet above the field. Talk about an IFR approach! Bit of a rough landing, but acceptable for a Brasilia with a pilot flying blind lmao.

  • @ericburns8697
    @ericburns8697 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was maybe two or three weeks into flying on the network, third year total of flying on XP10, so I knew the planes but not so much the ATC interactions. Was flying an A330-243 for US Airways from KPHL-KMIA. The plane was larger so if we encountered weather I wasn’t too concerned with the capabilities of the ILS computer systems onboard. Climb out and cruise from Philly were fine until around FL210, descending into KMIA, when the turbulence hit the slightest bit, and the ATIS system I had onboard the JAR330 failed. So not only did I not have weather info, at nearly the same moment it began to hail, which damaged the radome and forward TCAS / WX Radar dish. Descended to FL100, then 050 via ATC. Still no ATIS, no WX info or radar, aside from airport ATIS given via radio, which only covered the Class Bravo around the airport. Ended up going around three times and having to declare a fuel emergency on top of airframe / hail damage. Glad I landed ok tho.

      Navigraph ;)

    • @RNPAR0.1
      @RNPAR0.1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to go Navigraph ( google it ) and you'll have to pay a monthly subscription to have access to all charts worldwide. In the real world charts are constantly changing ( sometimes there are major changes to charts, when new runways are built etc ) and Navigraph reflects all those changes with AIRAC cycle updates which match the real world AIRAC. Current AIRAC cycle is 1901.
      There are 13 cycle updates per year ... one cycle update every 28 days
      Some people prefer to google charts, but there is a high chance the charts you will see online for free are outdated.
      ATC on VATSIM use Navigraph charts, thats why its important to get your charts from Navigraph or any source ( like Aerosoft ) that has updated AIRAC cycles applied to all charts you may want to use.
      I made the mistake of flying on VATSIM with outdated charts and ATC chewed me out because he told me to use a departure procedure that my chart didn't have..That departure procedure was on the current real world cycle that I didn't have because of my outdated chart ( outdated by just 1 month )
      Anyway, hope the long explanation gave you some insight.

    @ghostdog688 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Little late to the party but I’ll share a story with one of my MP flight sims (Falcon BMS)
    In an earlier version of the sim, the weather updated every so often but uses a probabilistic system (or basically rolls a dice to determine the weather change and how severe the change is). Night approach, low on fuel after a sortie and I’m on a 3 mile final. Calm winds but only enough fuel for this approach or I’m gonna have a bad day.
    About 30 seconds to touchdown, the weather updates, and I must have rolled a bad one. Suddenly I have a 25 knot crosswind and visibility drops off a cliff. 25 knots is bad in an airliner, but in a little jet like an f16 i felt like a sock in a tumble dryer!
    I managed to recover and complete the landing, going long and not actually touching down until about halfway up the runway. Pretty sure my brakes were about on fire and my tyres would have burst if this had been for real.

    Program PIN error also happen to me on approach in EHAM on a flight LJLJ-EHAM but I recovered my FMC. I don't remember what I did but as I remember (not sure) I set STANDBY POWER to OFF and back to AUTO/ON. This also helped on old versions of PMDG 737 for FSX if my FMC had frozen.

    I once had a flight that was fun but my frames are very bad so I was on approach and then my frames started to get really nasty I thought ooh shit. But when I was about to land the frames were just the worst ever, because of those bad frames my landing was very bad...

    Last year I was flying on the vatsim network. Doing a VFR flight in an a2a Piper, when I lost all electrical power heading from Shoreham to Sibson (my local airfield). As I was only 20 miles from sibson I continued visually

    Never had a bad flight experience, but as a s2 controller I have had some bad times. An example of that was when I was controlling tower for the first time since I have gotten my S2 rate and all of a sudden 3 aircraft: 1 A350, 1 trike, and 1 piper just appear out of nowhere and request circuits. The reason that it was bad was because it was a pain in the butt to separate them bc their speeds where not matched at all! XD

    My worst flight was a complete engine failure 30 seconds after takeoff with an A332 at LOWI in X-Plane 11...
    I landed in a field with the minimum amount of hydraulics, but I wasn't able to stop and I went trough a neighborhood...
