Bennet Riley i don’t know how it works in the United States. In our case, the ANSP was recruiting new people. Did selection tests, then they sent us to a specialized school for a year to learn all the basics. In our case, we didn’t spend a cent. We actually got paid a salary

I used to be incredibly shy on frequency and would often disconnect when asked something by controllers. Now I control at Atlanta And have twice as many hours controlling than flying! It has also opened up tons of doors for me, as I have now interned in the real world at Atlanta now. If you are shy on frequency and don’t know how to respond, I would suggest becoming a controller online!

Nothing "unfortunate" about having to go through some training to become a VATSIM controller. It is crucial. It is one of the few online gaming/simulation roles that just wouldn't work if anyone could jump into the role.

I’m a ground controller at Denver on vatsim (currently working towards tower) and it’s super fun, although I have to agree with the parenting plan part. I normally love to control during events but those 5% of pilots that don’t know what they’re doing can be very frustrating.

    Awesome video as always!!
I haven’t looked through the whole thing yet, but some clarification:
Not all facilities utilize the S1 rating to control ground/delivery. In fact, the S1 rating does not hold any sort of controlling priveliges, except the ones assigned locally. :) So to emphazise what you said - it is really up to where you are. :D
Also, the highest facility type you can get training for is centre. En-route (Eurocontrol as example) is not «above» center, but are something called «special centres» in the GRP. :) The highest rating you can get training for is C1.
Finally, I wanna say that controlling on VATSIM *is* addicting, so be careful. :D But it is the coolest hobby I can imagine!!❤️❤️

I would argue your 2nd negative can be something positive as well. You can make a positive impact, you can teach the next generation. Yeah some people will fuck up the taxi or maybe they even crash the landing, these things can happen. Of course it would be ideal if everyone already had a great understanding, but then again as you said sometimes ATC can be a bit boring especially in lower traffic situations and surely you got the time on hand to help a newer VATSIM pilot out.
Think about it this way, many of those often very young VATSIM pilots might just be the future pilots of our world, or maybe they will become ATCs themselves. They are exited about flying and exited enought about the actual procedures that they installed VATSIM after flying for a while.
They often are nervous and shy about making any mistakes so you can really have a positive impact and show them that they are welcome. I think most people can relate well, we all have started flying at some point and I dare the first guy who has never crashed a plane in the sim to raise his hand.
So yeah in a couple of weeks these people might start feeling more confident and enjoy VATSIM and start being more experienced.
Maybe they will even fly to and from your Airport more often, especially if you had a positive impact on them and the traffic is low and they feel like their mistakes are corrected in a positive way they can learn from rather than being negative about it.

Also keep in mind VATSIM isn't the only option if you want to become an ATC. I'm a controller on the IVAO network, which is very active in Europe. One difference is that you can start right away controlling smaller airports as ground or even tower, without having to do an exam. So you could literally get started in a week. (obviously you should still prepare by observing and reading the training material.)

I wanted to like vatsim. It's nothing but ATC's on a power trip who dump on pilots at every opportunity they get. Can't seem to have a flight without getting berated by ATC.
I thought I was having a great flight, and simply checking in with the approach controller on my descent, advising him I'm at FL 120 for FL 80, I got bitched at for not providing that I have Atis information, and that I didn't state the Sid I was descending on, even though it's on my filed flight plan. Pretty much said "Next time state which ATIS you have and which arrival you're on so I don't have to ask you and waste time" which you can't really defend yourself and you just have to say "understood."
This is just one of a million examples I have, they also seem to have no leniency for simulator issues, scenery issues, airport taxiway representations, etc.
Oh, and they always vector you above the glide slope while instructing you to maintain 180 knots until like 5 DME. Like how am I supposed to descend that fast while losing that much speed to my vref?

Please tell me where do I get these ratings ? Are these ratings just for virtual world or you mean actually real life training for ATC ? Do I need to pay for these ratings ?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just for the virtual world. You get them by undergoing training from your local VACC, which is for free. Some VACCs have a lot of trainees though, so it might take a while to get ratings.

@jake no man. None of the above. It's just a hobby. You control to add depth ot the simulation and gorw the community. It's neither a job or anything yiu can really put on a resume. Not for any serious job with the FAA or anything of the sort. Just have fun, learn something challenging and uhhh have fun. That's it.
