I'm pretty sure a lot of powers were created by this same reason, just look at that one in part 7 that transforms people into a tree, it's both beautiful and terrifying. Araki clearly has lots of fun while working in Jojo and I love that for him.

Nathan, my partner and I started YELLING when we heard the "anyone who is on the fence about jojo should start with lets eat italian food"- that is LITERALLY how a friend got us into jojo. We watched that episode and then Immediately went back and started watching the rest of the series. It really truly is the perfect intro to the series, LEGIT TACTICS

My first drawfee episode was crazy pose school and I’d like to go on record and say that was simultaneously the best and worst starting episode ever because although the episode is quintessential drawfee, Julia introduced herself as Nathan followed by everyone else also becoming Nathan and it took me many episodes to disentangle everyone’s actual identity from that initial confusion, especially Julia
Oh the pose episode was my first one as well! And I also still love it so much.

Kite's ability feels like something he came up with genuinely as a kid or ironically as a teen and now he hates it but since nen powers get better the more restrictions you give them he's stuck with it. The more he genuinely hates it the stronger it gets.

JAKE SUIT was on my mind instantly when I saw the thumbnail. But that is more like a byproduct of how op Jakes power actually is. Like he can literally stretch himself so thin that he endters into your body and can spread around and take controll from inside of your muscles. Its horrifiyng and I'm glad he only does it once.

Honestly I do that with a lot of their episodes that mention other ones. I have the one where they draw prompts they missed out on on episodes they hosted saved, because I didn’t watch a lot of those eps and it’s a good starting point
You should do this again but with only the power's name. Some names like April Fiction, Boogie Woogie and No Longer Human don't really give you an idea of the ability unless you already know what it does
The crazy thing about Nathan’s prompt is that it also a very close description to the main character of Gleipnir. The only major differences are that the person wearing him can exert some level of control on their actions and that the intention of the power is more geared towards “becoming a single unit” than control over another.
Oh yeah, and the “jacket” is a fursuit with a gun.
It's also an exact description of a dude from One Piece.

I thoroughly enjoyed the "And every time we kiss" in this episode. Jacobs is fully on board with the joke if its pushes content and engagement.
As someone who deeply loves the magnus archives, I do not think that the dawning realizations/horrors and intense emotional reactions could be felt in the same way if I had not started from the beginning. That being said, it's really wonderful piece of media and I would rather have someone risk a less satisfying/incomplete experience than completely miss out
I hope they do a part 2, JoJo Stands are a goldmine for this. I’d love to see Jacob try to explain what Babyface, Yellow Temperance, Cinderella, or Whitesnake do. Naruto and Demon Slayer also have some pretty weird abilities for their characters

Drawing suggestion: draw each other into an isekai. Example- Nathan is king of dinosaurs in a prehistoric world; Karina uses a Digimon deck in a YuGiOh-esque dimension; Julia is a Drawtective in an isekai full of vampires; and Jacob is the leader of a bunch of little guys rebelling against hot villains.

So glad Julia brought up the magnus archives bc I was thinking the power of turning someone into a book felt like an episode of it
I really dont know how far Julias into TMA or if shes even interested in continuing it, but its cool to hear her talk about it nonetheless. I really like season 1 despite it being a lil rough audio wise, I think it gets better around season 2 but honestly at that point the plot kicks in and really grips you so I didnt even notice how polished it had gotten.
I need someone to document the canonical drawfee watch order starting from this episode but it definitely won't be me

I love that somehow, no matter what character Julia draws, you can always see Julia in the character. One of my favorite things about her style!
The Spam Emails arc is definitely a great starting point for new viewers, bur personally I think having the extra characterization from the 4 Characters, 1 Description arc first improves the experience

There is actually one singular instance where Kite uses Crazy Slots and chooses the weapon he wants. When Pitou comes into the scene he's in and *immediately* chops his arm off, he uses the ability and we get a specific second of silence to show that Kite didn't complain about the weapon he got, which leads us to believe he purposefully chose his strongest weapon to fight Pitou.

i'll be honest when i heard that julia started the magnus archives not at episode one i was distraught cause it's hard enough to keep up with everything even when you have started from the beginning
same here. but also because... no matter how episodic you THINK it sounds at the beginning, it eventually becomes a linear story. which i guess is also true of the anime they talk about in this video. so if you are already okay with watching a random arc in the middle of a show, then starting with a random tma episode probably doesnt feel any different to you
but i personally could never do that. i HAVE to start at the beginning every time no matter how long the show is or how rough the first few seasons are
@@KTr0ck nah, When I Relisten I've begun to skip the first two episodes. Episode 3 I cannot skip as 'Across the street' is the episode that made me love TMA. Though I'm personally concerned how much Julia skipped, because 1 is not all that important, but like half of the first 10 episodes are both vital and awesome. Like 'A father's love', wich isn't in any way rough and a brilliant episode, one of the best even.

Nathan is absolutely right: You can start with Part 4 of Jojo. I did this, you get hints that some stuff went down previously but it's only made me intrigued rather than ruining anything, and the cast and story basically stand on their own just fine!
Honestly, 'Crazy Slots' really is one of my favorite powers. HunterxHunter is so freaking cool. Their ability to make their NEN OP by putting a condition on it is well done. From "Hey, I've got 5 really deadly weapons, but one is a joke' all the way up to 'If I even think about using this power in a certain way I will straight up die'.
I like to think that Kite came up with Crazy Slots as a way to amplify his power when he was young and stupid, because he got caught up in the idea of how cool it would be to luck into exactly the weapon he needed. After decades of having to deal with the damn clown giving him trash more often than not, he's so done with it, but he can never go back.
Having not seen HxH, I initially thought this was FF Gilgamesh, but that's also not anime.

As a long time Drawfee fan who has been around since like 2016-ish, this episode was very special to watch y'all reminisce. I remember each of those moments too and it's been a hell of a ride.
The voice they gave Clown Roulette definitely sounded like everyone's voice for Mickey Mouse I've ever heard... especially the "You're going to die!" part
to be fair, I think TMA season 1 is a lot less rough than many other podcasts I've given a try. Any D and D podcast, for example, has a really ROUGH first episode: extra long, bad audio quality, rambly. Like, yes, the audio quality is kind of flat for TMA for the first season or so, but the quality of the writing and horror is the same all the way through. I personally skipped around based on how spooked I was by the stories. Some of them just weren't my thing because I found them not spooky or interesting at all, but I only figured that out by trying the episodes out.
As someone who primarily plays episodes based on references, i have watched almost every episode forom the last 3 years in less than two months. The older ones dont get referenced as much, nor does youtube recomend them often. But the core episodes, speeddraws and streams are almost all linked together.
For a second when Jacob started describing the Jacket-Jacket fruit I was sure he was describing Gleipnir, which absolutely is deviant art hellscape stuff, but I like Nathan's body horror guy way more than "It's a mech anime, but where the mech is a fursuit and the fur suit is alive"
I also thought it was Gleipnir until they said the jacket takes control, because as I recall it worked the opposite way in Gleipnir.
Jacob, Nathan, and Karina should design the next evolutions of Julia's past Pokémon creations. Like what would Julia's Spheal look like one step up.
The moment I heard this episode's theme, I knew there would be some One Piece mentions in here. Oda creates the weirdest abilities.
Oda is able to design characters with either the most badass overpowered abilities or the weirdest buck-wild out-of-pocket shit imaginable

Yes, in that section I was having to tell myself "it's ok for people to have different opinions! Taste is subjective! There's no reason to be upset about this!" Seriously though, I'm glad Julia found a way to get into Magnus even if it didn't immediately grab her. At the end of the day taste really is subjective, we don't all have to enjoy a piece of art in the same way, as long as we're having fun.
I’ve tried to get into it multiple times and I always get put off about 10 minutes in. I think something about living in the city it’s about and walking up Fishmarket Close a fair amount kinda kills the vibe.

Interesting that the early magnus archives episodes are considered rough, I thought those were so good and that the show lost some of the magic when it became cleaner. The suspension of disbelief was easier when it was rough

fr, i wasn't even able to finish the last season bc i felt like it got so boring once it started to move away from the anthology format. meanwhile i re-listen to 14, 15, and 34 on a regular basis bc the first season just went so hard
A classic format I'd like to see return is the "Shades of [color]" videos. Nathan's bird from "Shades of Purple" was my desktop background for a while.

This episode is so funny, and now I really want to try the Drawfee References Order challenge. It remind me of some fun unhinged watching orders I've heard about like Dr Who but chronologically by years the Doctor time travel to. Also for Magnus Archive, I bet a "must watch to understand plot" list exist out there which let you skip the first episodes if they're not your taste.
I've been slowly working my way through the Drawfee back catalogue since I got into them last year, so I'm going back and forth between old and new Drawfs at the moment. It's fun to hear them reference all the things I've been watching :)
I have never heard of Tiger and Bunny but i was incredibly exciting hearing the name because it sounds like a Frog and Toad type deal and then they showed the picture and I was VERY disappointed. I want a superhero show but with cute animals that are sweet and happy

Nathan's description of Diamond is Unbreakable is spot on, and it's part of why it's one of my favorite chapters. It just gets so silly, and that silliness is part of what makes JoJo so good.

I am always excited when I see that a new Drawfee episode is up and I just know this one is going to be really fun (all of them are, but sometimes I just see a title and I know know it's going to be good)
I would 100% rewatch Drawfee in that new order. I would do the work of figuring it out, but I reckon that ten people in a sweat shop somewhere are already on it.

I’d like to imagine the skull on the clowns wheel is a visual representation of “kill Nathan” and it always almost lands on it.
As soon as I saw "wear a guy like a jacket" I thought "oh it's the funk brother from the dressrosa arc in One Piece" and immediately realized that I may know a bit too much about one piece.
The Jacket-Jacket Fruit is weird but not the grossest thing that has happened in One Piece. That's gotta be S15E578: The Straw Hats meet a Giant woman who ate the Mini-Mini fruit that allowed her to control her size. So then Luffy straight-up **vores her** when she's tiny, she becomes big inside of his body, and Luffy swells up and becomes Giant Luffy and crushes the enemy. It's....well, it's definitely SOMEBODY'S something.

Yep. It's from a little four-episode mini-arc between Fishman Island and Punk Hazard, designed to set up the movie "One Piece: Z," which was released around the same time.

I zoned out for part of this episode while I was trying to figure out what Julia meant by the first few episodes of The Magnus Archives sounding “rough.” Just listen to them on an old tape recorder like the entity intended and everything will be fine. The only thing that broke me out of my trance was the need to organize all the Drawfee episodes by the references made in them.
For the second character, i could imagine they becoming more and more goofy just to avoid the clown shooting them with a gun
