Also, what Julia was describing with explaining her problem to Jacob and that being enough to fix it is called "rubber ducking" in programming and it's a legit strategy!
That's when you explain the problem to a rubber duck, right? I think I've heard about it before, but in literature instead.
Basically, if you are having an issue with a sentence, you say it to a "rubber duck" and try to make it sound natural

@@JDM-is-my-namein programming (as, i would wager, in literature), the exercise helps you gather your thoughts. when you explain a problem to someone you're forced to recontextualise it and that can often help you solve it yourself without the other person even having to say anything, thus them being replaceable with a rubber duck.
in practice you sort of need another person because you tend to think differently when talking to a human than to an inert object.

Re: having issues with left and right-- dyscalculia is a legitimate disability along the same lines as dyslexia. It impacts a range of things, like swapping numbers in your head (24 and 42 are most difficult for me to keep straight for example), spacial orientation, inability to do mental math (or difficulty with it), and a lot more. If you'd describe yourself as having "math dyslexia," maybe look into dyscalculia! I struggled for years thinking I was just stupid or an idiot because I struggled hard with "simple stuff" like math and swapping right/left and learning that I had a real learning disability was like a weight off my shoulders. Love to everyone else with the same issues!
I have dyscalculia! I wish someone had picked up on it when I was a kid but it's nice to know now at least
When I learned about it after diagnoses I was like "everything makes so much sense" I had a lot of self-esteem issues because of it. I was always the kid that wanted perfect grades and worked super hard and no matter how hard I tried with math I always did horrible.

I have both, it's helped me immensely since I got a small L tattooed on my left thumb. I got told the 'hold up your fingers' thing my whole life and they both look like Ls to me, after struggling with my driver's test someone told me to just write an L on my left hand. It helped so much that a week later I got it tattooed.
I feel so seen rn, jesus. I literally have to imagine shaking hands with someone the correct way in order to remember which side is my right.
Jacob doesn’t understand that when I picture an L in my head it’s in 3D and can easily get flipped over or turned on its side.
On the plus side I’m really good at picturing things 3 dimensionally.

My issue with left and right isn't really a memory problem, like it's not like a peice of information. It's more that I'm extremely directionally challenged.
Same. For me, half of it is trouble with spacial organization and picturing the other point of view, and the other half of it is a language issue of "my left or your left," and the third half (I can't count) is anxiety if someone suddenly says "move right" i want to move as soon as possible, so either i step the wrong way in a rush, or i freeze and start overthinking it because i dont want to mess up.
@@Magic_Skeleton are you diagnosed with dyscalculia? This sounds a lot like what was described in other comments about how dyscalculia can include the left/right problem.
@m2012o1 no, but maybe I should get that checked out.. I have a good memory for numbers, but sometimes it gets jumbled when I speak it out loud or write it down, and I don't realize that the number I've spoken/written doesn't match the number in my head until someone points it out or I run into a problem.

Episode idea: Genre swap telephone!
One person designs a character in a specific genre, they hand it off to the next person who does a genre swaped drawing of that character, then the next person draws it in another genre without seeing the first one. Sort of like the fursona telephone episode you did a little while ago.
I haven't got my glasses on, and misread as 'gender swap', which I would also watch.

At 14:10 what Julia talks about here is essentially a Desktop Duckie. In many professions that require problem solving or unique solutions to issues, such as programming or engineering, it is a recurring practice to have a little rubber duckie at your desk. If you run into an issue or complication that is giving you trouble, before you take it to someone else or a higher-up, you should describe the trouble you are having to your Desktop Duckie. The process of explaining the problem you are encountering and what you need to happen is usually enough for someone to put together the solution on their own.
That fuccen duck on my desk has solved so many of my problems with better eyelashes than me

As someone with severe dyslexia, I think a lot of people who are bad with left and right are actually directionally challenged. Knowing my left from my right has never been a struggle, on the other hand knowing the direction the L actually faces is an entirely different issue. Which is maybe why I got so good at knowing my left from my right because if I tried to do the L trick with my hand as a kid I was always like, shit is that facing the right way?
That was always the problem I had!
As far as I know I'm not dyslexic but I never got the L thing because I'm just like "but they're both Ls and I can't remember which one is correct!"
I still have that problem with lowercase b and d. 😅

As someone who has a lot of trouble with left and right the fact that it’s just two things is actually the problem, if there were more and they were more different it would be easier to remember, but with only two it’s so easy to mix up.
Some commenters said this can be linked to discalculia, and now I'm wondering if numbers with more digits are easier for those who have it.
As an Allison, I also strive to be too buff and tall to fit on the canvas. Life goals.

Out of interest looked up Ironside cause it looked interesting, the lead actor Raymond Burr did actually need a wheelchair (present day casting take notes) and was also gay. I definitely want to try and watch this show now.

This is the Drawfee I love. Talking about an TV show that's well outside of their target demographic.
14:10 this is called "Rubber Duck Debugging" and it's a method that programmers use where they explain their code, step by step, to a rubber duck (or any inanimate object really) and it helps them figure out what they did wrong. The secret is that it is forcing them to think about their code one line at a time. Essentially Jacob is Julia's rubber duck.
My toxic trait is that I'm dyslexic lol

For me the left hand right hand issue isn't about memory but the fact I have dyslexia and so my brain inverts stuff. So when I'm on auto-pilot my brain is just like "That way is left" and I'm pointing right. To the point I literally refer to it as "Right and my right" with my family.

Julia's came out like a chapter insignia for some Space Marines. In line with that, It'd be pretty cool to see y'all take on Warhammer 40k in your styles, maybe your own Space Marine Legions or something. ;)
Karina is clearly my spirit animal. A theory I have long since had, but confirmed when she slapped 'facetious' on the table like a boss.
If you legit struggle with left/right join me in dyspraxia land! If you struggle with short-term memory, balance, fine motor-control and generally making your body do stuff you may have this badly named thing. It can also make directions and sequences real tricky hence problems with knowing left and right.
Jacob's hard stance all in good fun though, just wanna signpost people if they feel inadequate!
Fun fact, Flea is associated with the song butterfly because he originally did the bassline for 'pretty little ditty' off the RHCP album Mother's Milk. And Flea of course stands for Feline Lovers' Enthusiastic Association.
